₹8,907.72
CSI materials for a 9-jar blend ladder in the Borosilicate 600 g jar — jars, both waxes, oil, wicks and IPA · October 2026
Quick answers — read this first
Can a wax blend improve adhesion? It can, but a blend behaves as a new wax, not an average of its parents. Only a ladder in your jar shows it.

Which ratios should I try? Your formula as control, then 80:20 and 60:40 of the wax portion, oil unchanged. See the ladder.

How do I protect the throw? Make throw a gate: burn the passing rung beside the control after the 30-day photo, blind, and reject it if it is worse.

What does it cost? ₹8,907.72 in CSI materials for nine 600 g jars, or ₹3,492.52 as a first screen in Clear 150 g jars.
The short answer
Answer: Blending a partner wax into your formula can improve glass adhesion, but it must be tested as a new wax in small steps, with hot throw as a pass/fail gate rather than an afterthought.
Why: Crystallisation and contraction are commonly described as properties of the whole mixture, so a blend can behave unlike either parent. No CSI blend ceiling or temperature is published.
Method: Control 100:0, rungs 80:20 and 60:40 of the wax portion, oil fixed, one recorded pour temperature for the rungs, three jars each; adhesion photos to 30 days, then a blind throw burn on the same jars; keep the smallest passing rung.
A blend ladder with two gates: adhesion first, then throw on the same jars 600 g candle at 10% · 60 g oil + 540 g wax · ratios are of the wax portion · the maker's own formulas Control 100:0 3 jars Chunks 540 g + 60 g Woody Oud Rung 80:20 3 jars Chunks 432 g 468 108 g + 60 g Woody Oud Rung 60:40 3 jars Chunks 324 g 468 216 g + 60 g Woody Oud Gate 1 · adhesion (photos) 48 h · 7 days · cycle · 30 days Rung passes if it beats the control on your written house rule Gate 2 · hot throw (same jars) After the 30-day photo, burn blind Rung passes if no worse than control + every safety line no worse The blend you keep is the lowest-partner rung that passes both gates — the smallest change to the formula that worked.
A 600 g candle at 10% keeps 60 g of oil in every jar; only the wax portion changes, from 100:0 Chunks (the control) to 80:20 and 60:40 Chunks : CSI 468. Gate 1 scores adhesion from photographs to 30 days; gate 2 burns the same jars blind for hot throw and safety. Keep the smallest rung that passes both.
Straight answer
Could blending two waxes improve adhesion without sacrificing the hot throw of my existing formula?
Possibly — but test the blend as a new wax, in small steps, with throw as a gate. A blend is commonly described as crystallising and contracting as a mixture, not as an average of its parents, and no blend ceiling or temperature is published. Keep your formula as the control and add a partner in two rungs of the wax portion — 80:20 and 60:40 — with the oil unchanged: in a 600 g candle in CSI's Borosilicate Glass Jar 600 gram at 10%, that is 60 g of Woody Oud in every jar and 108 g or 216 g of Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 replacing Luxury Soy Wax Chunks. Score adhesion from photographs to 30 days, then burn the same jars blind for throw and safety. Keep the smallest rung that passes both. Nine jars cost ₹8,907.72 in CSI materials. A passing blend still re-opens wick, cure and throw validation everywhere you sell it.
One line: smallest step first; adhesion gate, then throw gate on the same jars.
A blend can be tested without risking the formula you sell: keep your current wax as the control, add a partner wax in two small steps, and make the adhesion jars do double duty as the throw jars after their 30-day photographs. In CSI's Borosilicate Glass Jar 600 gram (₹200.00 each) with Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 and Woody Oud, the 9-jar ladder costs ₹8,907.72 in CSI materials.

It can — if you test it as a new wax, in small steps, with throw as a gate

A blend is not half of one wax and half of another. It is a new wax that you make, and it has to earn its place like any other.

The idea is attractive. Your current formula throws well; another wax seems to set more cleanly against glass; blending a little of the second into the first might borrow its adhesion while keeping most of your throw. Makers blend waxes for many reasons, and there is nothing wrong with it. But nothing about a blend is predictable from its parts: how wax crystallises and contracts as it cools is commonly described as depending on the whole mixture, and a blend can behave unlike either parent — better, worse or simply different. CSI publishes no blend data, no blend ceilings and no blend temperatures, because a blend is your formula, not our product.

So the honest answer to the title is: possibly, and you can find out cheaply if you test it the right way. That means three things. Change as little as possible: the smallest share of partner wax that fixes the glass is the one to keep, because every gram of partner moves the formula further from what you validated. Gate on throw, not just appearance: a blend that adheres beautifully and throws less than your current candle has failed the title's condition. And treat the winning blend as a new wax: the retest post sets out what re-opens.

The worked example is a 600 g candle in CSI's Borosilicate Glass Jar 600 gram — the page says "ideal for 500–600 g wax fill" — at the maker's existing 10%: 60 g of Woody Oud and 540 g of Luxury Soy Wax Chunks. The partner is Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468. Both pages state a 13% fragrance ceiling, so 10% sits inside both — but no ceiling is published for any blend, so do not read a blend ceiling from them. Both pages also make the same "excellent glass adhesion" claim, as does CSI 464's; that is exactly why the partner choice is a test, not a page comparison.

The CSI principle
Blend in the smallest steps that could work, and keep the smallest step that does.
Each gram of partner wax is a change to a formula you already validated. Spend as few as you can.

The blend ladder, gram by gram

Ratios below are shares of the wax portion only, so the oil stays at 60 g in every jar and only the wax changes. That keeps the fragrance load identical across the ladder — the one variable is the blend. Two rungs, 80:20 and 60:40, are enough for a first screen: if 80:20 fixes the glass, you have found a small change; if only 60:40 does, you know the blend needs to be substantial, and the throw gate matters even more. A 50:50 or partner-majority rung is a second round, only if both fail.

Per jar · 600 g at 10% · production cost at 5 kg wax rates, 1 kg oil rate, jar at ₹200.00, two example Eco Thin C1 wicks · CSI live pricing, re-checked 7 October 2026 · CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026, stock re-checked 7 October 2026
The ladder and what each rung costs per candle
Rung (Chunks : CSI 468) Chunks CSI 468 Woody Oud CSI materials / candle vs control
100:0 540 g 0 g 60 g ₹807.13 —
80:20 432 g 108 g 60 g ₹811.24 ₹4.10
60:40 324 g 216 g 60 g ₹815.34 ₹8.21

The cost line barely moves: CSI 468 at the 5 kg rate (₹637.00/kg) is a little dearer than Chunks at the 5 kg rate (₹599.00/kg), so the 60:40 rung adds ₹8.21 a candle. In a 600 g candle the oil and the jar dominate the cost. That is useful: a blend is rarely rejected on material price, so the decision rests on the two gates. The example uses two wicks per jar as a placeholder for your own validated wick design in this jar; CSI publishes no wick size or count for the Borosilicate jar.

Weigh each wax, then melt them together
Weigh the two waxes for each rung separately on the scale, melt them together fully and stir before adding oil, so every jar in a rung is the same blend. Make each rung as one melt for its three jars rather than three small melts. Label the jug and the jar bases with the ratio before pouring — three rungs of identical-looking wax are easy to mix up.

Temperatures: the one place a blend has no page

Each parent wax has its own published figures; the blend has none. CSI's Luxury Soy Wax Chunks page gives fragrance addition at 80–90°C and a pour of 75–80°C in its spec table (its step list shows 70–80°C). CSI's Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 page gives a 50–53°C melting point and a 58–60°C pour. The two pour ranges do not overlap, so there is no published pour figure for any mixture of them, and we will not invent one. The jar adds nothing: the Borosilicate page publishes no hot-pour limit.

What you can do is hold the method constant. Pour the control at its own page figure, as you do in production. For the blend rungs, choose one pour temperature, measure it at the moment of pouring with the Pen Thermometer, record it, and use the same figure for both rungs; ask the jar supplier, or us on WhatsApp, before pouring hot into a jar without a published limit. If a blend rung fails on adhesion, a pour ladder for that blend is a separate, later test — never a reason to move two variables at once. Comparing waxes without changing several variables explains why each wax's own page temperature is a fair part of that wax, and where that stops being true.

The common mistake: blending and changing the process on the same day. A maker adds 30% of a second wax, pours cooler "because the new wax likes it", warms the jars "while we're at it" and gets clean glass. Nobody knows which change did it, and the next batch without the warm jars spots. Fix: blend rungs share one recorded pour temperature, room-temperature glass and the same rack as the control. One variable per round.

Two gates on the same nine jars

The jars that prove the adhesion can also prove the throw — if you photograph them before anyone lights a match.

Clean every jar identically with Isopropyl Alcohol Spray and a lint-free cloth and let them dry completely — it is flammable, so keep it away from the melter. Use one wick design, one oil bottle and one rack, with the rungs alternated along it. Then run the two gates in order.

1
Pour the ladderControl 100:0 and rungs 80:20 and 60:40, 3 numbered jars each, same day, same rack, alternated. 60 g of oil per jar in every rung.
2
Gate 1 · adhesionPhotograph every jar from four marked sides against a plain light background at pour day, 48 hours, 7 days, after a temperature cycle and 30 days. Score blind on your house scale. A rung passes if it is better than the control by your written rule at 7 days and after the cycle — the example cycle is 8 hours warm and 16 hours at room temperature, 3–5 times, warm phase well below CSI 468's 50–53°C melting point; the temperature-cycle post sets it up.
3
Gate 2 · hot throw, after the 30-day photoBurn the passing rung's jars and the control's jars in your fixed room protocol, blind-coded, with your usual panel. At 30 days every jar has cured well past the Chunks page's 48-hour minimum and its 1–2-week ideal, and all arms have cured equally. The rung passes if its panel score is no worse than the control's by your written margin.
4
Safety lines on every burnMelt-pool diameter and depth, time to full pool, flame height, soot, mushrooming and jar-side warmth, each against the control. A blend that throws as well but runs hotter or smokes has failed.
5
Keep the smallest passing rungIf 80:20 passes both gates, keep it even if 60:40 looks slightly cleaner. If only 60:40 passes, keep it and plan a full revalidation.

Why gate 2 on the same jars? Because it removes a source of error and saves a second pour: the throw candles are exactly the candles whose glass you scored. It also tells you something extra — whether a rung that adhered on the shelf still looks clean once the wax near the glass has melted and reset. Photograph the glass after each burn cycle as well.

A blend that fixes the glass and dulls the room has not solved your problem. It has swapped it.

An example pair of rules: "gate 1 — no jar above grade 1 at 7 days and after the cycle, where the control has at least one jar at grade 2 or worse"; "gate 2 — panel mean no more than half a point below the control at every reading". The margins are yours. Writing them down first stops a pleasing photograph from loosening the throw rule afterwards. What to record when comparing adhesion lists the batch fields worth adding.

A 600 g jar makes every arm expensive, and it is tempting to screen the blend in a small jar instead. The same ladder in nine Clear 150 g jars would cost ₹3,492.52 in CSI materials. That is a fair first screen only if you accept its limit: a wax qualified in one jar is qualified in that jar, and a 150 g jar puts far more glass around each gram of wax than a 600 g one. If you screen small, the winning rung still has to pass both gates in the Borosilicate jar before you sell it.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. If your 600 g candle spots because the glass is cold or the jars cool on a stone bench, no blend will fix it, and buying a second wax from us adds a formula to maintain for nothing. Run the free checks — invisible residue on the glass, glass temperature, cooling position — on your current formula first. A blend is the right tool only when the process is already clean and the spots persist.

What a passing blend means for buying

A blend doubles your wax stock lines and your lot records. For a 50-candle production batch of the 80:20 rung, you need 22.68 kg of Chunks and 5.67 kg of CSI 468 including the 5% allowance. For CSI 468 the cheapest listed cover is 1 × 5 kg + 1 × 1 kg (₹3,835.00). For Chunks, the strictly cheapest cover is 46 × 500 g (₹13,754.00), because the 500 g bag is ₹598.00/kg; 4 × 5 kg + 3 × 1 kg costs ₹13,777.00 — ₹23.00 more for far fewer bags to open — and the 10 kg bag, at ₹599.90/kg, is a shade dearer than two 5 kg bags; CSI 468's 5 kg and 10 kg bags are both ₹637.00/kg, against ₹650.00/kg for the 1 kg bag. Quantities beyond listed packs are quoted on WhatsApp; no discount figure is published.

Two practical points follow. Keep the two waxes' lot labels with every blend batch record, because a change in either lot is a change to your formula. And keep a retained sample of each blend batch — a numbered, unlit jar on a shelf — so that a future adhesion problem can be traced to a lot rather than argued about. Monitoring future wax and jar lots covers the routine.

Diwali falls on Sunday 8 November 2026. A ladder poured this week reaches its 30-day photographs after Diwali, so this year's festive pour stays on your current formula. Use the ladder to qualify the blend for the November–February wedding season. Send us your formula, jar and load on WhatsApp and we will help size the ladder from listed packs.

The decision rule

Working decision rule · gates written before pouring · read top to bottom
From the ladder to a purchase
If this is true It means Do / buy
The control passes gate 1 this time The spots were process or season, not formula Buy nothing. Find what changed
80:20 passes both gates A small blend works Adopt 80:20; buy CSI 468 in production packs; revalidate wick and cure
Only 60:40 passes both gates A substantial blend works Adopt 60:40 with a full revalidation — it is effectively a new wax
A rung passes gate 1 but fails gate 2 Adhesion bought with throw Reject it; try a different partner or a process fix
No rung passes gate 1 This partner does not help in this jar Second round: 50:50 or another partner, compared fairly

Whatever line you reach, the blend is a new wax: wick, load, cure and throw validation re-open in every jar family you sell it in. The retest-scope post lays out what survives, and choosing between a wax that adheres and one that throws is the alternative if blending fails.

Frequently asked questions

Can I mix two soy waxes for better glass adhesion?
You can test it. Keep your current wax as the control, add the second at 20% and 40% of the wax portion with the oil unchanged, and compare adhesion and throw against the control in your jar.
Does blending waxes reduce hot throw?
It can change it either way. Make throw a pass/fail gate: burn the blend beside your current candle, blind, after a full cure, and reject any rung that scores worse.
What pour temperature should I use for a wax blend?
No figure is published for any blend, and the two parent pages may not overlap. Choose one temperature, measure and record it, use it for every blend rung, and test a pour ladder separately if needed.
What is the fragrance load limit for a wax blend?
No ceiling is published for any blend. Staying inside both parents' published ceilings is a cautious practice, not a specification — Chunks and CSI 468 state 13%, CSI 464 states 10%.
How much of a second wax should I blend in?
As little as works. Start at 20% of the wax portion; go to 40% only if 20% does not fix the glass; keep the smallest rung that passes both adhesion and throw.
Do I need to retest my wick after blending waxes?
Yes. A blend is a new wax: melt-pool behaviour, cure and throw can change. Revalidate the wick in every jar family before production.

Non-price figures and assumptions: Load convention: fragrance load is a share of the finished candle (oil = W × L; wax = W × (1 − L)). Candle: 600 g at 10% (60 g oil + 540 g wax) in the Borosilicate 600 g jar (page: ideal for 500–600 g). Blend ratios are shares of the wax portion and are example rungs. Example wick design: two Eco Thin C1 per jar — a placeholder, not a recommendation. Working practices: 3 jars per rung, 5% pour loss, photo checkpoints at pour day, 48 hours, 7 days, after a temperature cycle and 30 days, example cycle 8 h warm / 16 h room for 3–5 cycles, throw read after the 30-day photo, example scales and gates. Production costs use 5 kg wax rates and the 1 kg oil rate; small-jar screen alternative priced in Clear 150 g jars (15 g oil + 135 g wax at 10%). What CSI's product pages state (quoted, not CSI test results): Luxury Soy Wax Chunks — maximum fragrance load 13%, fragrance addition 80–90°C, pour 75–80°C in the spec table (the step list also shows 70–80°C), stir 2 minutes, cure minimum 48 hours, ideally 1–2 weeks, and "excellent adhesion to glass and container surfaces reduces wet spots and pull-away"; Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 — fragrance load up to 10%, an 80–90°C melt/pour working range, "excellent glass adhesion", single-pour, low frosting; Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 — melting point 50–53°C, pour 58–60°C, fragrance load up to 13%, "formulated for excellent glass adhesion and a one-pour finish"; Natural Soy Pearl — no fragrance ceiling, temperature, cure or adhesion statement published. Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid (150 gram) — thick-walled clear glass, approximately 150 g wax fill, about 8 cm tall with lid, rim about 7 cm, base about 6.5 cm, "safe for hot pour up to 85°C". All three wax pages make the same adhesion claim, so the claim cannot rank them. CSI publishes no adhesion, wet-spot, shrinkage, contraction or frosting data for any wax, oil, dye or jar, no glass thickness in millimetres, no internal jar diameters and no wick-size-per-jar chart; no industry acceptance threshold for wet spots exists. Mechanisms (wax contraction as it cools and crystallises, glass temperature, cooling rate, residues, temperature cycling, load and dye effects) are general candle-making knowledge, phrased as commonly described. Material costs exclude labour, packaging, freight and GST. Diwali 2026 falls on Sunday 8 November.
