Quick answers — read this first
Does pour temperature affect glass adhesion? Yes, and in two opposing ways. Hotter wax wets the glass better but shrinks more on the way down, peeling back off. Cooler wax shrinks less but is too viscous to wet the surface at all. Adhesion is best in the middle.

What should I pour at? The band published for your wax. CSI 464: melt and pour at 80–90°C. Eco Soy CSI 400: fragrance added at 80–90°C with two minutes of stirring. No pour figure is published for any other wax on the store — ask, do not borrow.

Why does the same advice fail for other makers? Because pour temperature only matters relative to jar temperature. An 85°C pour into a cold December jar behaves like a far hotter one. The differential is the variable.

Cheapest fix? A pen thermometer at ₹354. It beats every adhesion additive sold anywhere, and we do not sell one.
The short answer
Yes — but not in a straight line. Adhesion rises with pour temperature up to a point, then falls again. Too cool is a wetting failure; too hot is a contraction failure. Wax pulling away from the glass is what the hot end looks like in the jar.

Adhesion is not a "hotter is better" variable. Wetting improves as the wax gets hotter; contraction worsens as it has further to cool. The two effects cross, and the crossing point is the band. The shaded strip is the 80–90°C figure published for CSI 464 and Eco Soy CSI 400.
Straight answer
Does pouring temperature affect candle glass adhesion?
Yes, and it is one of the few variables that decide it — but not the way most makers assume, because it pulls in two directions at once. Hot wax is thin, so it flows into the microscopic texture of the glass: good wetting, the first requirement of any bond. Hot wax also has further to fall before it is solid, and soy contracts as it cools, pulling inward away from the surface it just wetted. Pour cool and the problem inverts — less contraction, but wax stiff enough that it sets against the glass rather than into it, so there was never much bond to lose. The band exists because both failures sit either side of it. That is why poor glass adhesion has more than one cause, why wax pulling away and wet spots turn up in one batch, and why the internet contradicts itself here. CSI publishes 80–90°C for melt and pour on CSI 464, and the same band for fragrance addition on Eco Soy CSI 400. Find your point inside it with six jars, then stop moving it.
One line: adhesion is an inverted U against pour temperature — cool pours fail to wet the glass, hot pours wet it and then shrink off it. Find the top of the curve inside the published 80–90°C band and write it into the recipe.

Two failures, one dial, opposite directions

Every other variable in candle making has a direction. This one has two, and they point at each other.

For wax to stick, molten wax has to flow into the microscopic roughness of the glass rather than bridge over it. That is wetting, and it improves as the wax gets hotter and thinner. On that argument alone you should pour as hot as the wax tolerates.

Then the second mechanism arrives. Soy occupies less volume solid than liquid and gives that volume up while cooling, so the further the wax has to cool, the more it contracts. Some of that shrinkage comes out of the top, which is why dishing travels with hot pours. Some comes out of the sides, and that is what peels a freshly bonded film off the glass. On that argument alone you should pour as cool as you can.

Which failure you have, in one observation. A too-cool pour looks patchy almost immediately — the wax set against the glass, not into it. A too-hot pour looks perfect for an hour, then develops pale patches and lifted edges overnight as contraction finishes. Bad at twenty-four hours but fine at one means the hot side; bad immediately means the cool side.

It also explains the contradictory advice. A maker in Chennai drops ten degrees, fixes their jars and posts "pour cooler". A maker in Shimla raises ten and posts "pour hotter". Both are right about their own bench; neither is describing a rule. Adhesion is cosmetic, not a safety fault

The published band, and the waxes with no published band

CSI publishes temperature guidance for two waxes. Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 (Flakes) states melt and pour at 80–90°C — a pour figure, and the one to work to. Eco Soy CSI 400 states fragrance addition at 80–90°C with two minutes of stirring — an addition figure. The two are a few degrees apart in practice, but they are not the same instruction.

Said plainly: for every other wax on the store, CSI publishes no pour temperature. That includes Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468, Soy Pillar Wax, Natural Soy Pearl Wax, the beeswax and the paraffins. Pour temperature and jar temperature are one variable

A hot pour into a cold jar is worse than a moderate pour into a warm one. The number on your thermometer is half the measurement.

Consider the first two seconds after the wax touches the glass. A cold jar is a heat sink pressed against the exact film that should be wetting it. That contact layer chills, stiffens and stops flowing into the surface, while the wax a few millimetres inward is still molten and will contract for another hour. You have manufactured both failures at once: a poorly wetted skin, and a large contraction behind it pulling on that skin.

Warm the jar and the same pour behaves differently. The contact layer stays fluid a few seconds longer, wets properly, and the whole mass then cools as one thing at one rate. Contraction still happens; it just pulls evenly on a bond that had time to form. This is why the differential matters more than the absolute. Two consequences. Record room temperature and jar state beside the pour figure, or the recipe is not repeatable. And treat a season change as a reason to re-run the test: a recipe that held in August drifts in December because the jars are colder, not because the wax changed — rule the wax in or out with how to verify wax quality before you buy.

The CSI principle
There is no correct pour temperature. There is a correct temperature difference between your wax and your glass, and the pour figure is only half of it.
Which is why copying a number off someone else's blog fails about half the time, and why the six jars below are worth one evening.

The six-jar test: three temperatures × two jar states

The whole method. Three pour temperatures across the published band, each poured into one unwarmed jar and one warmed jar. Six jars, one evening, one wax, one fragrance, one jar model, one wick. A test with two variables answers one question; a test with five answers none.

Add fragrance, stir the full two minutes with a bamboo stirring stick, then pour A and B at 90°C, C and D at 86°C, E and F at 82°C. Read the thermometer as the wax leaves the jug. On a 600 ml Steel Pouring Pitcher at ₹708 or a Candle Wax Pouring Jug at ₹531, two jars is all you get before the reading moves off.

Cool all six identicallySame surface, same shelf, same spacing, no draught, no fan, no fridge, lids off. Different cooling rates will swamp the effect you are measuring, and moving a jar while it sets is itself a cause of flaws.

Inspect at 48 hours and again at day 7Two readings, because the fault develops. At 48 hours the wax has done most of its contracting; by day 7 any late lifting has shown itself. Score each jar out of five for wall contact, note where the flaws sit — base, mid-wall, under the rim — and photograph all six in the same light, side by side.

What the test costs
Six White Matte Glass Jars at ₹70.80 = ₹424.80 · 1.2 kg of CSI 464 at ₹507.40/kg = ₹608.88 · six Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) at ₹5.90 = ₹35.40. Consumables ₹1,069.08, plus a pen thermometer at ₹354 once. The six jars are sellable afterwards, so this is a test that produces stock rather than scrap.

Read the results as a ranking, not a verdict. If D beats C and B beats A, warming helps at your bench. If every warmed jar wins and the temperature gaps are small, jar state is dominant and pour temperature a fine-tune. If C and D beat everything, the middle of the band is your answer. If all six are poor, temperature is not the cause — go back to the general adhesion diagnosis.

Batch drift: the jug is cooling while you pour

You measured 86°C. Jar one got 86°C. Jar fifty got nothing close.

This is the failure that survives a perfect test. You find your number, write it into the recipe, and on a fifty-jar day the last third comes out flawed anyway. Nothing is wrong with the recipe. The jug was cooling the whole time you poured — faster once half empty, with less mass holding heat and more exposed steel. Add wick centring and interruptions, and jar forty took wax several degrees cooler than jar one. A fifty-jar run at 200g is 10 kg of wax and roughly twenty refills of a 600 ml pitcher: twenty chances to miss your recipe.

Sub-batches, the free option. Pour in lots of eight to ten jars rather than fifty, checking the thermometer at the start of each lot and again halfway. It costs nothing but adds melting cycles, and it is the right answer below roughly a hundred jars a week.

Do not read that table as a push toward the 20-litre unit. Buy the ₹2,360 one, or buy nothing and pour in sub-batches. A ₹23,600 melter is sensible past several hundred jars a week and a poor purchase for someone whose problem a ₹354 thermometer would solve. What else moves when you move the pour temperature

Adhesion is not the only thing on this dial, which is why you change it deliberately and once. Surface finish: pour temperature sets how evenly the top settles and how the wall reads through the glass — the same family as wet spots in candle jars, prevented in how to prevent wet spots in container candles. Fragrance retention: the hotter the wax when the oil goes in, the more top notes leave before the jar is filled — which is why Eco Soy CSI 400 specifies 80–90°C rather than "as hot as possible", and why the 92 fragrance oils want a controlled bench. Tune the three together, then stop.

That is the argument against our own interest, stated flatly. There is a healthy trade in bottles promising better container adhesion. CSI does not stock an adhesion additive and is not planning to, because the fault is a temperature-differential and cooling-rate problem, and nothing dissolved into the melt changes either.
