How to Scale Fragrance Mixing for Large Candle Batches

Does a bigger batch make each candle cheaper? Barely. CSI 464 is ₹507.40/kg at 1 kg, 5 kg and 10 kg alike, so a 10 kg batch of 50 jars costs ₹187.81 a jar in materials with Sandalwood — the same as pouring one. What you buy by scaling is time and consistency, not a discount.
How long should you stir a 10 kg melt? Long enough to turn the whole melt over, which is not the same two minutes that works in a 200 g pot. Fifty times the volume needs either a much longer fold or a powered tool — the CSI Pro Mixer at ₹349.00 states 30–45 minutes of continuous mixing per charge.
What is the real limit on batch size? The pour window, not the melter. Fifty jars have to be filled while the wax is still inside its stated pour band — 75–80°C for Chunks, 58–60°C for CSI 468. If you cannot fill them in time, split the melt.
What actually breaks between a 200 g pot and a 10 kg melt
Most makers scale by multiplying, discover that batch three smells different from batch one, and conclude that the oil has changed. It almost never has. Four things change when you go from one jar to fifty, and only one of them is arithmetic.
Weighing precision stops being the problem. At 200 g of wax, 8% is 16 g of oil and a 1 g slip puts you at 8.5% — a real shift. At 10 kg, 8% is 800 g and the same 1 g slip puts you at 8.01%, which is nothing. Scaling up is genuinely more forgiving on the scale, and small makers who worry about their kitchen balance can stop worrying the moment the batch gets big.
Mixing energy collapses. This is the one that matters. A bamboo stick moving through a 200 g pot turns the whole volume over many times in two minutes. The same stick moving at the same speed through 10 kg touches a fraction of it. Fragrance oil is less dense than molten wax and goes in at the top; without full turnover, the top of the melt carries more oil than the bottom, and the jars you pour first do not match the jars you pour last. Nothing about this is visible in the vessel — melted soy looks uniform whether or not it is.
The pour window opens and then closes. One jar is filled in seconds. Fifty are not. Every jar you fill takes the melt further from the temperature at which you started pouring, and each grade publishes a band you are supposed to stay inside: the Luxury Soy Wax Chunks page gives 75–80°C, CSI 468 gives 58–60°C, and the CSI 464 page gives 80–90°C as the working range for melting and pouring. Jars filled below the band are where wet spots and sinkholes come from.
The cost of a mistake multiplies. A mis-dosed 200 g pot is one candle and about ₹187.81 of materials. A mis-dosed 10 kg melt is fifty candles and ₹9,095.44 of wax and oil before the jars, and you will not know until the cure is over. That single fact should change how close to the ceiling you run production.

Read the right-hand column as a handover. Below about 5 kg, your enemy is the scale; above it, your enemy is the clock and the stirrer. Most makers keep optimising the thing that used to matter and never notice the thing that now does.
The one number that must not drift: oil as a share of wax weight
CSI's pages state fragrance load as a percentage of total wax weight, and that convention has to survive the jump to bulk intact. Oil grams are wax grams multiplied by the load — nothing else. Not a percentage of the finished candle, not a percentage of the melter's capacity, and never a volume.
The second place the number drifts is the ceiling. The wax grade's stated maximum and the oil page's stated candle range still both apply at scale, and the lower one governs. CSI 464 states up to 10%, Luxury Soy Wax Chunks and CSI 468 up to 13%, and Eco Soy CSI 400 publishes no ceiling at all — for that grade, ask on WhatsApp rather than assuming a number that fits your spreadsheet. Oil pages that print 6–10% for soy pull a 13%-capable wax down to 10% just as firmly at 10 kg as at 200 g.

The Chunks page is unusually explicit and worth copying as a policy: 8% as a starting point, 10% recommended, 13% maximum with thorough test burning. Read that as a production instruction and you get exactly the right habit — recommended load in the melter, maximum load only in a test jar.
Mixing energy: why two minutes stops being two minutes
The Luxury Soy Wax Chunks page asks you to add fragrance at 80–90°C and stir slowly for 2 full minutes; Eco Soy CSI 400 asks for 85°C and a gentle 2-minute stir. Those instructions are about dissolving oil into wax properly rather than whipping air into it, and they are correct. What they cannot tell you is how long two minutes needs to become when the vessel holds fifty times as much.
Think in turnovers, not minutes. One turnover is the whole volume passing through the stirrer's path once. In a 200 g pot a slow fold gives you dozens; in a 10 kg melter the same fold gives you a handful, and most of them near the surface where you added the oil. The instruction that actually scales is: keep mixing until you have moved every part of the melt, including the corners of the vessel and the layer sitting on the base, then keep going for the stated time on top of that.
Three things that raise turnover without whipping air in
Add the oil in portions. Pour a third of the 800 g, fold it through, pour the next third, fold, then the last. Three shallower mixing problems are easier to finish than one deep one, and you never have a thick oil layer sitting on top waiting to be dragged down.
Mix from the bottom. Push the stirrer to the base of the vessel and lift, rather than circling the surface. A Silicone Spatula at ₹175.82 also lets you scrape the wall, where a film of low-oil wax otherwise sits out of the circulation.
Use power above about 5 kg. The CSI Pro Mixer at ₹349.00 is described on its page as a cordless handheld mixer with a stainless steel spring-coil whisk head that integrates fragrance oil into wax at 80–85°C, with 30–45 minutes of continuous mixing per charge. At one batch per charge cycle that is several batches between charges. It is the cheapest item in this guide and the one that changes the most.
The pour window is the real limit on batch size
Once the oil is in and mixed, every jar you fill is a race against the wax cooling. The grade tells you the band: 75–80°C for Chunks, 58–60°C for CSI 468, 80–90°C given as the working range on the CSI 464 page. How fast your particular melt falls through that band depends on your vessel, your room and your ladle, and no supplier can publish that for you — but you can measure it once, in ten minutes, and never wonder again.
Do it like this. Bring a melt to the top of the pour band, switch the heat off, and note the temperature every two minutes until it falls out of the bottom of the band. That elapsed time is your pour window. Then time yourself filling five jars. Divide, and you have the largest number of jars you can pour from one unheated melt. If that number is smaller than the batch you want to run, you have three honest options and one bad one.

The bad option is pouring through the bottom of the band and hoping. Candles filled cold are the ones that come back with wet spots against the glass and dull, shrunken tops, and in a 50-jar batch they will be the last fifteen — which is exactly the set you will ship last and hear about first. If you are unsure, pour fewer jars per melt. Splitting a 10 kg run into two 5 kg runs costs you nothing in materials, because CSI 464 is ₹507.40/kg whether you buy 1 kg, 5 kg or 10 kg.
The kit that makes a big batch behave — and what each item actually fixes
A 10 kg melter is the expensive thing and usually the last thing you need. The Electric Wax Melter (Imported) page states 9.5 litres of capacity, a display range of 60°C to 100°C with a ±10°C deviation, and that it melts 10 kg of soy wax in approximately 30 minutes at 100°C. That is a serious tool at ₹21,240.00 for the 10 kg size, and the 20 kg size at ₹25,960.00 is down to its last unit at the moment, so treat the larger one as a special order rather than a shelf item.
Whether it pays depends entirely on how often you run. Spread illustratively across 100 batches of 10 kg, the 10 kg melter is ₹212.40 a batch, or ₹4.25 across fifty jars. Across 20 batches it is ₹1,062.00 a batch and ₹21.24 a jar. Those figures are arithmetic on a purchase price, not a promise about your business — pick the batch count that matches your own order book and do the division honestly before you buy.

Note what is not on that list: a bigger scale. Weighing precision is the thing that gets easier as batches grow, and any balance reading to 1 g handles a 10 kg batch to better than a tenth of a percent. For scaling purposes there is nothing wrong with the scale you already have; CSI's Candle Making Weighing Scale at ₹354.00 is thin on stock at present in any case.
A 10 kg batch, start to finish
The whole sequence is deliberately boring, and that is the point. At this scale you are not trying to make a better candle than your test jar — you are trying to make fifty copies of it. Every decision above exists to remove a way in which copy fifty could differ from copy one.
When not to scale up — and what a bigger pack actually saves
There are three good reasons to run a bigger batch: you save handling time, you get one dosing decision instead of five, and every jar in the run shares the same melt. There is one reason people think they are scaling and are not — the per-kilogram price. On most of CSI's soy range, buying a big pack does not lower the rate.

So the case for a 10 kg batch is operational, not financial. If you are pouring thirty jars a month, five 1 kg melts through a Mini Electric Wax Melter will give you more consistent candles than one 10 kg melt you cannot mix or pour properly, and it costs the same in materials. Scale when the handling is genuinely slowing you down and you have the mixer and the pour plan to match — not because the melter looks like a milestone.
One more honest note on cost. Two of CSI's public reviews mention delivery charges being high, and a large wax order is heavy. If freight is what is really pushing you towards a big single order, say so on WhatsApp and ask about consolidating the wax, the oil and the wicks into one consignment rather than ordering them separately across a month — that is a conversation about freight, not a reason to melt more wax than you can pour.
