I Am Switching Reed Diffuser Fragrance Oil Suppliers Because My Products Fade Too Quickly in Summer — How Do I Qualify Replacement Oils?

Qualification is not a search for the right oil. It is a sequence of eliminations, and every elimination has a price. Done in the wrong order, a five-candidate shortlist costs you nine thousand rupees and three months. Done in price order, two of the five are gone before you have opened a bottle.
₹2,230.77
average cash cost per candidate eliminated across a five-candidate, five-gate funnel — and the one figure on this page you should refuse to budget from, because the real staircase runs ₹0 · ₹255.78 · ₹690.20 · ₹2,527.30 · CSI live pricing, October 2026
Quick answers — read this first
Is my old supplier actually the problem? You do not know yet, and that is the first thing to settle. "Fades too quickly in summer" is an output of the oil, the base, the reed count, the room and the bottle together. If you swap only the oil you may replace a supplier who was never at fault and keep the fault.

So what is a qualification? Four or five gates, run cheapest first. A paper screen on listed stock (₹0), a sealed 50 gm sample with a retained reference, a bare 120 ml bottle with no reeds, then a reeded weighed trial, then a full-life run against a cool-stored control from the same batch.

What does it cost? On five candidates and the arithmetic in this page, ₹8,923.08 of cash and four disqualifications — ₹2,230.77 each on average. But the marginal cost of eliminating one candidate is ₹0 at the paper gate and ₹2,527.30 at the weighed trial, a 9.88× step from the first gate you actually pay for. Sequence matters more than budget.

What can a 40 °C bench run tell me? Whether something changed — clarity, colour, sediment, odour drift against a control. It cannot tell you the product will last 60 days in a customer's flat. No short high-temperature run converts into a real-time claim, and nothing on this page does that conversion.

Where do I start today? With the free gate. Open the five candidate pages, add up every listed pack's stock in grams, and compare it against your run. One of the five candidates below is 125 g short of a single 500-bottle run from its entire listed stock. That is a disqualification you did not pay for.
The short answer
Count disqualifications, not candidates. A qualification programme is priced by what it costs to eliminate a wrong answer. Five candidates with one survivor is four eliminations, and they are not equally priced — so put the cheap gates first and let them do the killing.
The free gate is listed stock. Add every pack rung's live quantity in grams and compare it with your run's oil requirement. An oil that cannot fill one order is disqualified before a courier is involved, at ₹0.
Hold the base constant or the trial means nothing. Run every candidate on the same reed base, the same bottle, the same reed count and the same published load. A base change is a separate experiment with its own gate.
A slower base is not automatically a better base. If it restricts wicking or release, the bottle lasts longer and smells of less. Judge any base swap on both grams lost per day and throw, never on days alone.
Five gates · bar length is what ONE disqualification costs at that gate GATE IN / OUT MARGINAL COST OF ONE ELIMINATION 1 Paper screen 5 → 4 ₹0 — listed stock against your run 2 Sealed sample 4 → 3 ₹255.78 — 50 gm pack, vessel, 9 ml of base 3 Bare bottle 3 → 2 ₹690.20 — glass plus 90 ml, no reeds 4 Weighed trial 2 → 1 ₹2,527.30 — four reeded bottles, 32 reeds, oil top-up 5 Full-life run 1 → 1 ₹304.02 of glass and base — plus 60 days you cannot buy ₹0 ₹1,250 ₹2,527.30 Gate 4 costs 9.88× Gate 2. Every candidate you kill early is money the last gate never spends.
The bars are cash, computed from CSI live prices in October 2026 and shown in full in the sources strip. The candidate counts are an illustration of a five-into-one funnel, not a prediction about which oils survive. No page can smell an oil for you, so nothing here says which gate any candidate fails. What the arithmetic does say is unambiguous: an elimination at Gate 4 costs almost ten times one at Gate 2, so the order of the gates is the decision, not the shortlist.
Straight answer
My diffusers fade too quickly in summer and I am changing supplier. How do I qualify replacement oils?
Treat it as an elimination funnel with the gates in price order, and hold every other material fixed while you run it. Gate 1 is free: add up each candidate's live stock across all five pack rungs and compare it with the oil your run needs — a 500-bottle run of 120 ml diffusers at the published 25% ratio is 15 kg, and at least one plausible candidate cannot supply that from its whole listed ladder. Gate 2 is a 50 gm pack and a sealed 12 ml retained reference drawn from the blend you will judge everything else against; on the four candidates below that is ₹912.80 of oil, one ₹360 pack of 12 ml vessels, one ₹1,099 500 ml base, and a ₹354 scale plus a ₹354 pen thermometer. Gate 3 is a bare bottle — 120 ml glass, 90 ml of base, 30 g of oil, no reeds — because clarity, sediment and colour drift need no reeds and reeds are what make a cell expensive. Gate 4 is the first expensive gate: two replicates in two conditions per surviving candidate, weighed at fixed checkpoints, with fibre reeds at ₹8.00 each. Gate 5 is time, and nothing shortens it. Run that way the whole programme is ₹8,923.08 and four disqualifications; run it backwards and you will pay Gate 4 prices to learn a Gate 1 fact.
One line: the cheapest replacement oil is the one you qualified for the least money, and that is decided by the order of your gates, not the price of the oil.
The whole instrument set for this funnel: Candle Making Weighing Scale ₹354, Pen Thermometer ₹354 (only 19 units listed), Attar Bottles 12 ml, pack of 10, ₹360 for the retained references, and a Silicon Measuring Beaker 100 ML ₹300. Under ₹1,400 of equipment that every later batch reuses.

Before you blame the supplier

A supplier change is the most expensive hypothesis on the list, and most people test it first.

Your complaint is real: the same product that held a room in December is weak and half-empty by the third week of May. What is not established is which material did that. A reed diffuser's rate of liquid loss is set by the exposed reed surface, the air moving past it and the air's temperature; the oil contributes, but so does the base, the reed count, the fill, the bottle's neck and whether the customer put it on a windowsill. CSI's own fibre reed pages say two useful things here in their own words — "avoid placing in direct sunlight or near heat sources which accelerate evaporation" and "use 10+ for maximum throw in larger rooms — the base will evaporate faster at higher reed counts" — and both of those point away from the oil.

So run the free comparisons before you run the expensive one. Each row below is a single-variable test you can do with material you already have, and each one is capable of making your supplier switch unnecessary.

What else produces summer fade · ordered by what it costs to rule out
Six suspects, one single-variable test each, and the price of the test
Suspect Why it can cause fade The one-variable test What it costs you
Room temperature Warmer air carries more away from an exposed reed surface Two identical bottles, two rooms, the ₹354 pen thermometer logged daily beside each ₹354 once, then nothing
Airflow Moving air does the same thing; a fan or a doorway is a variable Same two bottles, fan on and fan off, nothing else changed ₹0
Reed count CSI's reed page states the base evaporates faster at higher counts Pull two reeds from one bottle and keep weighing both ₹0 — and it is reversible
Fill level A part-filled bottle has fewer grams to lose before it looks empty Weigh the liquid, not the bottle, and record net fill ₹0 with a scale you own
Fragrance load The published window runs 10–30%; you may be at the wrong end Two bottles, same oil, two loads inside the published window One bottle plus liquid — ₹304.02 of glass and base
The base Different bases are sold for different jobs and behave differently Two bottles, same oil, two bases, both weighed and both smelt ₹1,099 a base, and Depth costs the same as Pure Performance
The oil The thing you are about to change supplier over Everything above held fixed, then the funnel in this page ₹8,923.08 on five candidates
Priced above: Pen Thermometer For Candle Making ₹354 (19 units listed); Candle Making Weighing Scale ₹354; a bare 120 ml cell is one 120 ML bottle at ₹106.20 from the ₹1,062 pack of ten plus 90 ml of base at ₹2.198/ml = ₹197.82, so ₹304.02; Pure Performance 500 ml ₹1,099, Depth 500 ml ₹1,099, Lift 500 ml ₹1,099, Softness 500 ml ₹1,099, Longevity 500 ml ₹1,296. Black fibre reeds are ₹8.00 each from the Pack of 50 upward. The ₹8,923.08 programme total is built gate by gate later on this page. CSI live pricing and per-variant stock, October 2026.
The mistake: changing the oil and the base in the same batch. It is the natural thing to do — you are already unhappy, the new supplier's sample arrived, you had a different base in the cupboard — and it destroys the result. Two changes produce one reading, and the reading cannot be attributed. Worse, it tends to produce a product that is different rather than better, which is the hardest outcome to argue with and the easiest to ship by mistake. Fix: one change per bottle, a cool-stored control from the same batch beside every arm, and a written log that names the one thing that moved. If you want the base question answered properly it has its own post — comparing evaporation and room throw at higher temperatures.

There is one more reason to be sceptical of the supplier hypothesis. "Fades" conflates two different complaints that need different fixes. A bottle that empties fast has lost liquid, and that is a weighable fact. A bottle that still has liquid but smells of less has not lost liquid, and weighing it will tell you nothing. Decide which one your customers are reporting before you shortlist anything, because the first is an evaporation problem and the second may be a load, reed or oil-selection problem. The 60-days-to-25-days post works through the first; this page assumes you have already separated them.

The five gates, and what each can conclude

A gate is worth running only if it can eliminate a candidate. That sounds obvious and it is routinely ignored: most "testing" in this category produces observations nobody acts on, which is the same as not testing. So write down, before you spend, what each gate is allowed to decide — and, just as importantly, what it is not.

The funnel · five gates in price order
What each gate tests, what it can conclude, and what it cannot
Gate What you actually do It can conclude It cannot conclude
1 · Paper Open each candidate's page, read every variant's live quantity, convert to grams, compare with the run That a candidate cannot supply your order at all, or only by buying its entire ladder out Anything about smell, clarity or life. It is a supply test
2 · Sealed sample Buy the smallest sensible pack. Blend one 12 ml retained reference per candidate at your load. Rest 24–48 hours as the base pages state. Store one cool, one warm That a blend is cloudy, separating or sedimenting at your load within days — and it gives you the fixed reference every later judgement needs How it performs in a bottle with reeds. A 12 ml vessel has no reed surface
3 · Bare bottle A full 120 ml bottle, 90 ml base and 30 g oil at 25%, no reeds, capped. Weigh at fixed checkpoints and photograph against the control Appearance and colour drift at scale, and the carrier's own loss with no reed surface involved Throw, wicking, or days of life. Those need reeds
4 · Weighed trial Two replicate bottles per candidate in each of two conditions, reeded at a fixed count, flipped on the same schedule, weighed weekly with an intensity note beside every weight Grams lost per day in your conditions, the spread between replicates, and whether throw tracks or diverges from consumption Sixty-day life from a two-week run. You get the slope you measured, over the days you measured it
5 · Full-life run Run the survivor to exhaustion in both conditions beside a sealed cool-stored control from the same batch, with a coded blind panel at each checkpoint A number you can publish, with its assumptions written beside it Anything faster. Time is the one input you cannot buy
The cheapest instrument in the funnel is a coded control
Nobody can smell an oil through a web page, so no sentence here tells you whether one holds its character in heat. Neither can your own nose, judging a warm bottle on its own two months later — you will have forgotten what it smelled of. The fix is mechanical: at Gate 2 blend two 12 ml references per candidate from the same mix, store one cool and one at your test temperature, and at each checkpoint have someone hand you both with the labels covered. You are not asked which is better. You are asked whether they are the same. That question has an honest answer; "has it faded?" does not.

Gate 1: the screen that costs nothing

An oil you cannot buy enough of has already failed, and reading the page is free.

Set the run first. Five hundred bottles at 120 ml and the published 25% ratio is 500 × 30 g = 15,000 g of oil and 500 × 90 ml = 45,000 ml of base. Now take five plausible replacements from CSI's fresh and green shelf and add up every rung's live quantity. The arithmetic below is October 2026 stock, and it eliminates a candidate before anything is ordered.

Five candidates · live ladders and total listed stock against a 15 kg run
The paper gate, worked at CSI live prices and per-variant quantities
Candidate ₹ per gram, 15 g → 1 kg Cheapest 50 g route All rungs, total listed grams Paper verdict on 15 kg
Citrus Lemon 5.428 · 3.40 · 3.00 · 2.84 · 2.832 50 gm ₹170 41,700 g (41.7 kg) Passes — but the 1 kg rung is at 3 packs, so 15 kg routes mostly through 500 gm
Zesty Lemon 6.00 · 4.00 · 3.60 · 3.44 · 3.40 50g ₹200 Quantities look like placeholders (11,111 and 111,111) Passes on price; treat the depth figure as unverified and ask
Eucalyptus Spearmint 4.5627 · 4.248 · 3.54 · 3.304 · 3.068 50 gm ₹212.40 150,850 g (150.85 kg) Passes comfortably; 100 gm rung is thin at 28
Verbena 7.08 · 6.608 · 5.90 · 4.956 · 4.72 50 gm ₹330.40 165,020 g (165.02 kg) Passes; dearest entry ticket of the five
Blue Ocean 6.21467 · 4.94 · 4.95 · 4.956 · 4.956 Two 50 gm ₹494 beats the 100 gm ₹495 14,875 g (14.875 kg) Fails — 125 g short of one run from its entire listed ladder
Worked out above: Citrus Lemon 15 × 90 + 50 × 95 + 100 × 91 + 500 × 47 + 1000 × 3 = 1,350 + 4,750 + 9,100 + 23,500 + 3,000 = 41,700 g. Eucalyptus Spearmint 750 + 2,300 + 2,800 + 45,000 + 100,000 = 150,850 g. Verbena 1,320 + 4,600 + 9,600 + 49,500 + 100,000 = 165,020 g. Blue Ocean 1,275 + 1,600 + 2,000 + 2,000 + 8,000 = 14,875 g against 15,000 g required, so 125 g short. Buying the Blue Ocean ladder out costs 85 × 93.22 + 32 × 247 + 20 × 495 + 4 × 2,478 + 8 × 4,956 = ₹75,287.70 for 14,875 g = ₹5.0614/g, which is 2.12% above its own ₹4.956/g top-rung rate because the small rungs dominate the bill. Per-gram figures are pack price ÷ pack grams. Quantities are live per-variant counts, October 2026, and change without notice.

Read the Blue Ocean row carefully, because it is the shape of a Gate 1 failure and it is not about quality. The oil is listed, in stock at every rung, and a CSI customer calls it "fresh and soothing". It simply cannot fund one 500-bottle run from the quantities currently on the shelf, and the attempt would cost 2.12% more per gram than its own best rate while leaving you nothing in reserve. That is a supply disqualification, it took ten minutes of reading, and it cost nothing — which is exactly the point of putting this gate first. For a smaller run it may be the right answer; the verdict is a function of your order, not of the oil.

Check the cheapest route, not the cheapest rung
Blue Ocean's ladder inverts: two 50 gm packs cost ₹494 against ₹495 for one 100 gm pack, so on that oil the 100 g rung is never the way to buy 100 g — and the two-pack route leaves you a sealed spare for the retest. Citrus Lemon runs the other way and falls at every rung. The habit worth keeping is to price the exact quantity you need across every combination of packs rather than reading the per-gram column and assuming the biggest pack wins.

What a disqualification costs at each gate

Here is the programme priced gate by gate on the four candidates that survive the paper screen — Citrus Lemon, Zesty Lemon, Eucalyptus Spearmint and Verbena — with the base, the bottle, the reed count and the load held constant throughout. The candidate counts are an illustration of a five-into-one funnel; the money is live.

5 · Full-life One 15 gm top-up for the sealed control ₹81.42; glass and base from spares ₹81.42 No elimination — one candidate left —
Programme Five candidates in, one approved ₹8,923.08 ₹2,230.77 average over 4 The average is the useless number
Worked out above. Gate 2 cash: 170 + 200 + 212.40 + 330.40 = ₹912.80 of oil, plus ₹360 (Attar Bottles 12 ml, Pack of 10), ₹1,099 (Pure Performance 500 ML), ₹354 + ₹354 instruments = ₹3,079.80. One elimination here is its own 50 g pack + one ₹36 vessel + 9 ml of base at ₹2.198 = 200 + 36 + 19.78 = ₹255.78 on the Zesty Lemon rung. Gate 3 adds one 120 ML Pack of 10 at ₹1,062; one elimination here is 330.40 + 36 + 19.78 + 106.20 + 197.82 = ₹690.20 on the Verbena rung. Gate 4: glass ₹1,062 + base 2 × ₹1,099 = ₹2,198 + 64 reeds as Pack of 50 + Pack of 25 = ₹636 + Citrus Lemon 100 gm ₹300 and 15 gm ₹81.42 + Eucalyptus Spearmint 100 gm ₹354 and 15 gm ₹68.44 = ₹4,699.86; one elimination here is 170 + 36 + 19.78 + 106.20 + 197.82 + 424.80 + 791.28 + 400 + 381.42 = ₹2,527.30 on the Citrus Lemon rung, and ₹2,610.72 on the Eucalyptus Spearmint rung. 2,527.30 ÷ 255.78 = 9.88×; 690.20 ÷ 255.78 = 2.70×. Programme 0 + 3,079.80 + 1,062 + 4,699.86 + 81.42 = ₹8,923.08; ÷ 4 eliminations = ₹2,230.77. Base at ₹1,099 ÷ 500 ml = ₹2.198/ml; 90 ml = ₹197.82; four bottles of glass at ₹106.20 = ₹424.80; 360 ml of base = ₹791.28. Reeds: 64 needed, Pack of 50 ₹400 + Pack of 25 ₹236 = ₹636, against ₹800 for one Pack of 100.

Three things in that table are worth arguing with your own numbers about. First, Gate 2 is where the instruments get bought, so its ₹3,079.80 flatters later gates — if you already own a scale and a thermometer the gate is ₹2,371.80 and the staircase gets steeper, not shallower. Second, the ₹2,230.77 average is arithmetically correct and operationally misleading: budgeting four eliminations at ₹2,230.77 each prices a paper screen at two thousand rupees and a weighed trial at two thousand rupees, and both numbers are wrong. Third, the reed line is the single clearest argument for one-variable testing. Sixty-four reeds cost ₹636 at Gate 4; if you decide halfway through to change the reed count as well, you buy a second set, and on a 120 ml bottle a second set takes hardware from ₹170.20 to ₹234.20 — a permanent 37.6% increase against a one-off reformulation test.

1
Write the run down before you look at any oilBottles, fill, load, reed count, condition count. Five hundred bottles at 120 ml and 25% is 15 kg of oil and 45 litres of base; at 20% it is 12 kg and 48 litres; at the 30% ceiling it is 18 kg and 42 litres. The published window on every CSI reed base is "Blend with 10-30% fragrance oil" with a stated 25–30% working ratio, so pick your point inside it and freeze it. Without this number Gate 1 has nothing to compare against.
2
Run the paper screen on every candidate the same afternoonFor each one, read every variant's quantity, multiply by that variant's grams, sum, and write the total beside your requirement. Then price the exact quantity you need across pack combinations — not the per-gram column. Mark any ladder that inverts, any rung at single-digit packs, and any quantity that looks synthetic. Candidates that fail here are done, and they cost you nothing.
3
Buy the smallest sensible pack and build two retained references per survivorAt 25% a 12 ml retained sample is 9 ml of base and 3 g of oil in a ₹36 vessel. That is ₹65.98 on Citrus Lemon, ₹67.78 on Zesty Lemon, ₹68.53 on Eucalyptus Spearmint and ₹75.61 on Verbena — a formula, not a constant, because the oil's per-gram price moves it. Rest them 24–48 hours as the base pages instruct, then split: one cool, one at your test temperature. Code both. Photograph both on day 0 against a white card.
4
Put the bare bottles up — no reedsOne 120 ml bottle per survivor, 90 ml base, 30 g oil, capped, beside its control. Weigh the whole bottle on the ₹354 scale on day 0 and at fixed checkpoints, and log the room temperature from the ₹354 pen thermometer beside each weight. You are watching for cloudiness, sediment, colour drift and separation, and you are getting the carrier's own behaviour with no reed surface in the way. This is the cheapest full-size cell in the series and it needs no reeds at all.
5
Reed the survivors, two replicates in each of two conditionsEight bottles, eight reeds each, 64 reeds for ₹636 as a Pack of 50 plus a Pack of 25. Flip on the same schedule for every bottle — the reed pages state flip every 3–5 days — and weigh weekly rather than daily, because a ±1 g reading error on a 2 g daily signal is ±50% while on a 14 g week it is ±7.1%. Write an intensity note beside every weight. Two replicates give you a spread; one gives you an anecdote.
6
Run the survivor to the end, then write the claim from what you measuredDays of life is usable liquid ÷ your own measured grams per day, with both halves labelled as yours. Keep the sealed cool control running to the end so the blind panel has something to compare against, and note that a 60-day trial does not divide by seven: 60 = (8 × 7) + 4, and treating the last four-day interval as a week invents a 43% slowdown that never happened.
Do not convert a hot bench run into a life claim. A short run at 40 °C is a screening tool for change — cloudiness, sediment, colour, odour drift against a cool control. It is not evidence that a finished bottle will perform for sixty days in a customer's flat, and no multiplier exists that turns one into the other. CSI publishes no temperature data of any kind for any base, oil, reed or bottle: no flash point used as a working temperature, no viscosity, no volatility, no evaporation rate, no heat-stability statement. Every temperature in your protocol is your choice and every day-count is your observation. If a bench run screens a candidate out, that is a legitimate elimination; if it screens one in, you still owe it the full-life trial. See the accelerated-stability post for the protocol and its limits.

What to buy to run the funnel

Four lines carry the whole programme. One oil that is cheap enough to be the baseline, one that rewards volume hard enough to change your cost structure, the base you hold constant, and the vessel that makes a retained reference possible at all. Every price below is live and every stock figure is per variant.

The baseline · cheapest gram in the fresh family
Citrus Lemon Fragrance Oil | Candle Fragrances
The reference candidate, because it is the cheapest entry ticket of the five and its ladder falls at every single rung — ₹5.428 a gram at 15 gm down to ₹2.832 at the kilo, with no inversion anywhere. That makes it the easiest oil to scale a decision on: whatever quantity the run lands at, the per-gram price is lower than the rung below. Its kilo saves ₹8 against two 500 gm packs, which is a rounding error and worth knowing rather than chasing. Watch the top rung: 1 kg is at 3 packs, so a 15 kg order routes as 3 × 1 kg + 24 × 500 gm = ₹42,576, which is ₹96 — 0.23% — above the flat kilo rate. One CSI customer, Avanthi Cheeli, records "Quality is good with good fragrance". That is a candle observation, not a diffuser measurement.

Also falls at every rung, and its kilo at ₹3.068 a gram sits below the mass-priced 100 g base pack's ₹3.25 a gram — which inverts the usual logic. Cost per kilo of blend is linear in the load, so when the oil is cheaper per gram than the base, a higher load is cheaper per kilo of finished liquid: ₹3,231.80 per kg at 10% falling to ₹3,195.40 at 30%, a ₹36.40 spread across the whole published window. Against the ₹2.198/ml of a 500 ml base pack it runs the normal way round, which is why you must always say which base pack a figure assumes. Its kilo saves ₹236 against two 500 gm packs. Watch the 100 gm rung at 28 packs — fine for Gate 4, not a production backbone. A 130 g quantity is cheapest as 100 gm plus two 15 gm at ₹490.88, against ₹566.40 for 100 gm plus 50 gm.

Pure Performance Reed Base Oil — Professional Reed & Car Diffuser Base
Every cell in this funnel runs on one base, and this is the one whose page speaks to the problem in CSI's own words: it states that it "performs well in Indian climates by balancing scent throw with longevity" and that "heat and humidity create specific challenges". Those are quotable as page copy and they are not measurements — the page publishes no temperature, no viscosity and no evaporation rate. Published and usable: "Blend with 10-30% fragrance oil", a 25–30% working ratio and a 24–48 hour rest before bottling. At ₹1,099 for 500 ml that is ₹2.198 a millilitre, so 90 ml in a 120 ml bottle at 25% is ₹197.82. Name the contradiction rather than resolving it: the page's dose cards mark 20% as "Recommended" while its details table says 70–75% base with 25–30% oil, and its two FAQ copies disagree with each other. Ask us which your formula should sit at.

The vessel that makes a retained reference possible
Attar Bottles ( 3ml, 6ml, 12 ml)
A qualification without retained references is a qualification you cannot audit. These are the cheapest sealed vessel in the range — ₹360 for ten 12 ml bottles, ₹36 each — and one pack covers two coded references for four candidates with two spare. At 25% each reference is 9 ml of base and 3 g of oil, so the cost per retained sample is a formula and not a constant: ₹65.98 on Citrus Lemon, ₹67.78 on Zesty Lemon, ₹68.53 on Eucalyptus Spearmint, ₹75.61 on Verbena. Note the live title reads "( 3ml, 6ml, 12 ml)" and there is no 2 ml variant despite what the handle implies. Pair with the Silicon Measuring Beaker 100 ML at ₹300 — a single ₹300 variant, not the 100/500 pair the handle suggests, with a separate 250 ML listing at ₹600.

Priced above: Citrus Lemon ₹81.42 / 15 gm, ₹170 / 50 gm, ₹300 / 100 gm, ₹1,420 / 500 gm, ₹2,832 / 1 kg (stock 90 / 95 / 91 / 47 / 3). Eucalyptus Spearmint ₹68.44 / ₹212.40 / ₹354 / ₹1,652 / ₹3,068 (50 / 46 / 28 / 90 / 100). Pure Performance 100g ₹325 (63) and 500 ML ₹1,099 (56). Attar Bottles ₹180 / ₹300 / ₹360, all packs of ten (99 / 100 / 99). Retained-sample arithmetic: 9 ml base × ₹2.198 = ₹19.782, plus ₹36 vessel, plus 3 g of oil at that oil's 50 g rate — ₹10.20, ₹12.00, ₹12.744 and ₹19.824 respectively. Eucalyptus Spearmint cost per kg of blend = 1,000 × ₹3.25 + 10L × (₹3.068 − ₹3.25) against the mass-priced base pack, so ₹3,231.80 at L = 10 and ₹3,195.40 at L = 30. CSI live pricing, October 2026.
The CSI principle
A qualification is priced by its eliminations, not by its approvals. Spend where a candidate can die cheaply.
Four of your five candidates are wrong. You do not know which four, so the only thing you can optimise is how little each wrong answer costs to find. That is why the free gate goes first, why the bare bottle has no reeds, and why the base, the glass, the reed count and the load never move while the oil is on trial.
Running Gate 4? 64 fibre reeds cost ₹636 as a Pack of 50 (₹400) plus a Pack of 25 (₹236) — against ₹800 for one Pack of 100, so buy for the quantity you need. Black fibre reeds are ₹9.44 each at 25 and ₹8.00 flat from 50 upward; white is ₹1.16 dearer at the 25-pack and exactly ₹1.00 above it thereafter. For recurring volumes, bulk pricing and GST invoicing are handled on WhatsApp.

Approving a replacement, and what you may claim

An approval is a sentence you would be willing to have tested in front of you. Nothing else qualifies.

Say Gate 4 leaves you one candidate. Before it becomes your production oil, two more things need writing down: what it costs you per bottle at every point of the published window, and what you are permitted to say about it. The first is arithmetic. The second is a discipline, and it is the part that creates refund conversations when it is skipped.

Eucalyptus Spearmint, ₹3.068/g (1 kg) ₹284.64 ₹289.86 ₹295.08 20% — by ₹10.44
Verbena, ₹4.72/g (1 kg) ₹324.29 ₹339.42 ₹354.55 20% — by ₹30.26
Same four, on Longevity at ₹2.592/ml add ₹37.82 add ₹35.46 add ₹33.10 The premium shrinks as the load rises
Worked out above: base at ₹2.198/ml gives ₹211.01 at 96 ml, ₹197.82 at 90 ml and ₹184.63 at 84 ml. Oil = grams × that oil's rate: Citrus Lemon 24 × 2.84 = ₹68.16, 30 × 2.84 = ₹85.20, 36 × 2.84 = ₹102.24; Zesty Lemon ₹81.60 / ₹102.00 / ₹122.40; Eucalyptus Spearmint ₹73.63 / ₹92.04 / ₹110.45; Verbena ₹113.28 / ₹141.60 / ₹169.92. Longevity is ₹1,296 ÷ 500 = ₹2.592/ml, a ₹0.394/ml premium, so 96 × 0.394 = ₹37.82, 90 × 0.394 = ₹35.46 and 84 × 0.394 = ₹33.10. Depth, Lift and Softness are all ₹1,099 — the same ₹2.198/ml as Pure Performance — so switching to any of them adds ₹0 per bottle. Because cost per kilo of blend is linear in the load, the cheapest load is always an endpoint of the published 10–30% window and never a middle value. Glass (₹106.20) and eight black reeds (₹64.00) add ₹170.20 to every row.

Now the honesty that makes the switch defensible. A slower-evaporating base is not automatically a better base. CSI's Depth page is the only one claiming to "slow evaporation" and Longevity the only one claiming "extended cold diffusion"; both are the pages' own words and neither is a measurement, so they cannot rank two bases numerically. More to the point, if a base restricts wicking or release then the bottle lasts longer and smells of less — which is a worse product with a better-looking day count. Every base swap in this funnel therefore gets judged on two readings taken from the same bottles: grams lost per day, and a coded intensity note against the cool-stored control. If consumption falls and throw falls with it, you have bought days by selling scent. Note too that CSI's own Depth page lists "Fresh citrus, light florals, aquatics" under Avoid and routes them to Lift — so for a lemon formula, the slow-evaporation base is the one the page steers away from.

What to ask the new supplier for, and what not to expect
Ask in writing for the batch or lot number of what you were sent, documentation on request, and confirmation of whether the production batch is the same lot as your sample. Documentation is the reader's own document to read with a qualified adviser — it is not summarised here, and nothing on this page states or implies a category maximum for any oil. Keep the published 10–30% blend range clearly separate from any safety limit: the first is a formulation window printed on a base page, the second is a compliance matter. And do not ask a supplier for a longevity figure; ask for a batch number, and measure the longevity yourself.
You cannot buy a qualified oil. You can only buy an unqualified one cheaply enough to find out.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished diffusers. That is why no oil on this page is said to hold its character in heat, and why none is ranked against another for stability. Odour change is a panel judgement, not a measurement, and it belongs to the person holding the two coded bottles. CSI publishes no temperature data of any kind for any base, oil, reed or bottle — no flash point used as a working temperature, no viscosity, no volatility, no evaporation rate, no heat-stability statement, no storage temperature and no shelf life — so every temperature and every day-count in a qualification is yours, and the only real number in it is the weight you record.

Every price, pack size, variant title and per-variant stock figure here was read from live CSI data in October 2026 and links to the product page, where current pricing always takes precedence. Stated specifications are quoted only where a page publishes them: the 10-30% blend range, the 25–30% working ratio and the 24–48 hour rest on the reed bases; 20.3 cm, "uniform pore structure", the 4–5 / 6–8 / 10+ count bands, flip every 3–5 days and 1–2 hours initial absorption on the fibre reeds. Where a page contradicts itself — Pure Performance's dose cards against its details table — we name it and route you to us rather than resolving it. We would sell more oil by telling you which one to switch to; we are telling you to run the free gate first, because a maker who eliminates cheaply buys the right kilo once.

Frequently asked questions

How many replacement oils should I shortlist?
Enough that the free gate can do real work, which usually means four to six. The paper screen costs nothing, so a wide shortlist is free at Gate 1 and expensive at Gate 4 — on the arithmetic above an elimination at the weighed trial costs 9.88× one at the sealed-sample gate. Shortlist widely, eliminate early, and never carry a candidate into a reeded trial because you are curious rather than because the cheaper gates could not separate it.
Can I skip the bare-bottle gate and go straight to reeds?
You can, and it costs you ₹64.00 of reeds per cell plus the risk of confusing two signals. A bare 120 ml bottle is ₹304.02 of glass and base and answers the appearance questions — cloudiness, sediment, colour drift, separation — with no reed surface involved. Add reeds and you are measuring the carrier's loss and the reed-surface loss together. Bare hardware is ₹106.20 against ₹170.20 reeded, so the bare arm is 37.6% cheaper and tells you something the reeded arm cannot isolate.
Will a slower-evaporating base fix summer fade on its own?
Possibly, and possibly at a price you do not want to pay. A slower base is not automatically a better base: if it restricts wicking or fragrance release, the bottle lasts longer and smells of less. Judge any swap on two readings from the same bottles — grams lost per day, and a coded intensity note against a cool-stored control — never on days alone. On price, Depth, Lift and Softness all cost ₹1,099, the same ₹2.198/ml as Pure Performance, so those swaps add ₹0 a bottle; only Longevity carries a premium, ₹35.46 at 25% in a 120 ml bottle.
How much oil do I need to qualify an oil properly?
Less than most people buy. Gate 2 needs 3 g per retained reference, Gate 3 needs 30 g for one bare 120 ml bottle at the published 25% ratio, and Gate 4 needs 30 g per replicate bottle — so four reeded cells is 120 g. A 50 gm pack covers Gates 2 and 3 with 17 g left over, and a 100 gm pack plus a 15 gm top-up covers Gate 4. Note that a 15 gm pack cannot fill one 120 ml bottle at 25%: 15 ÷ 30 is half a bottle.
Does a 40 °C test tell me whether a replacement oil will last 60 days?
No, and nothing converts it. A short high-temperature run is a screening tool for change — you are looking for cloudiness, sediment, colour drift or an odour difference against a cool-stored control from the same batch. It is not evidence of real-world life, and no accelerated result becomes a real-time figure by arithmetic. CSI publishes no temperature data for any product in this range, so the 40 °C, the duration and the checkpoints are all your choices and should be written down as yours. Days of life stays what it always is: usable liquid ÷ your own measured grams per day.
What do I do with the candidate that fails only on stock?
Keep it on the list for smaller runs and say so in your notes. Blue Ocean's entire listed ladder is 14,875 g, which covers a 495-bottle run at 120 ml and 25% but not a 500-bottle one — a verdict about your order, not about the oil. Buying the ladder out would cost ₹75,287.70, or ₹5.0614 a gram, 2.12% above its own top-rung rate, because the small rungs dominate the bill. If you want it as a production line, message us for depth before you commit a design to it.
