₹25,000 · Bulk or Small
Only two lines in a container-candle order have a real price break at CSI and are used by every candle: Natural Soy Pearl from 5 kg and the Salsa jar from 50. Buy those to the break. Keep oils, candidate scents and untested wicks small, and hold the rest for reorders.
₹1,440.00
saved by buying the jars and wax to their price breaks instead of in small packs · identical materials · CSI live pricing, October 2026
Quick answers — read this first
What should I buy in bulk? Only materials that every candle uses and that get cheaper per unit: Natural Soy Pearl from 5 kg (₹424.80/kg) and the 200 ml Salsa jar from 50 (₹29.50 each).

What should I keep small? Fragrance oils (300 g per production scent, 15 g for candidates), untested wick types, and anything else that serves one scent.

How many candles does ₹25,000 make? 91 finished candles now (9 tests, 82 for sale), with 9 jars kept for the reorder oil.

Why such a large reserve? Because the oils are small on purpose. The ₹7,693.48 reserve is the reorder for whichever scents sell, plus a wick swap or retest.
The short answer
Answer: Bulk: 15 kg Soy Pearl (₹6,372.00) and 100 Salsa jars (₹2,950.00). Small: four oils at 300 g (₹5,102.88) and three at 15 g. To need: wicks and stickers. Reserve ₹7,693.48.
Rule: Does a bigger CSI pack cost less per unit? Does every candle use it? Bulk only for yes-and-yes, and only to the break point.
Proof: The same jars in 5-packs and wax in 1 kg bags would cost ₹1,440.00 more. Four oils at 1 kg would cost ₹16,307.60 for a few hundred rupees of saving.
Bulk or small? Two questions decide every line of a ₹25,000 order Across: does a bigger CSI pack actually cost less per unit? · Up: does every candle use it, whatever the scent? BUY TO NEED Eco wicks — ₹5.90 at every pack Wick stickers — one sheet size White Matte jar — ₹70.80 at 5 or 10 Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 — flat per kg BUY IN BULK — to the break Salsa 200 ml jar: ₹40.12 → ₹29.50 at 50 Natural Soy Pearl: ₹450 → ₹424.80/kg at 5 kg No further break beyond those points Shared by every scent and candle KEEP SMALL Production oils — 300 g each Candidate oils — 15 g bottles Untested wick types — 10-packs Scent is a bet until it sells BULK ONLY AFTER IT SELLS Oils with a real 1 kg break: Eucalyptus Spearmint 13.3% Fresh Strawberries 6.3% Most oils: within ±1% — no break no real per-unit break a real per-unit break every candle one scent This plan: bulk ₹9,322.00 · small ₹5,855.52 · to need ₹890.00 · tools ₹1,239.00 · reserve ₹7,693.48
Every line of a first order sits in one of four boxes. Bulk is the top-right box only — a real per-unit break and used by every candle — and even there, only up to the break. Oils with a real 1 kg break wait in the bottom-right box until sales prove the volume.
Straight answer
I have ₹25,000 for my first candle-making inventory — which materials should I buy in bulk and which should I deliberately keep small?
Buy in bulk only what every candle uses and what genuinely gets cheaper per unit at CSI — and only up to the break point. Keep everything scent-specific small. On CSI's price list that means Natural Soy Pearl from 5 kg (5.6% cheaper per kilo) and the 200 ml Salsa jar from 50 (26.5% cheaper per jar, cap included). Wicks, stickers, White Matte jars and CSI 464 are priced flat, so buy them to need. Oils are bought at 300 g per production scent and 15 g per candidate, because a kilo of the wrong scent is dead stock. On ₹25,000: 15 kg Soy Pearl and 100 jars (₹9,322.00), four oils at 300 g, three 15 g candidates, a three-wick test, tools, wicks and stickers — CSI total ₹17,306.52, reserve ₹7,693.48. It makes 91 finished candles now, with 9 jars waiting for the reorder oil.
One line: bulk to the break for what every candle shares; small for every line that serves one scent.
The ₹25,000 plan here buys two things in bulk — 15 kg of Natural Soy Pearl and 100 Salsa jars — and keeps the oils deliberately small: 300 g each of four scents plus three 15 g candidates. CSI spend ₹17,306.52; ₹7,693.48 stays as an oil-reorder and testing reserve. The bulk lines are the two where CSI's price list actually drops: 200 ml Salsa Glass Jar from ₹40.12 each in fives to ₹29.50 in fifties.

The two-question rule for bulk versus small

Bulk is only worth it where the price drops and every candle uses the material. On CSI's list that is a short list.

A first inventory goes wrong in one of two ways. Either everything is bought small, and you pay the 5-pack and 1 kg premium on materials every candle uses; or everything is bought big, and money disappears into a kilo of a scent nobody asked for twice. The way through is to ask two questions about every line. Does a bigger CSI pack actually cost less per unit? Often it does not — most of CSI's per-unit prices are flat across pack sizes. Does every candle use it, whatever the scent? Wax and jars do; a fragrance oil serves one scent only. Bulk is for materials that answer yes to both.

The answer to the first question is not a feeling; it is in the price list. The table below audits every material a container-candle launch needs, smallest listed pack against the bigger packs, so you can see where a break exists and where it does not. Prices are CSI's listed, in-stock packs.

Two lines stand out. The Salsa jar is 26.5% cheaper per jar in a 50- or 100-pack than in a 5-pack — the biggest per-unit break anywhere in this audit. Natural Soy Pearl is the only CSI soy wax with a real bulk break, 5.6% from 5 kg. Both are used by every candle you make, whatever the scent. Those are your bulk lines. Notice also where the breaks stop: the Salsa jar costs the same ₹29.50 in a 100-pack as in a 50-pack, and Soy Pearl the same ₹424.80 a kilo at 50 kg as at 5 kg. Bulk means reaching the break point, not going past it.

The CSI principle
Buy to the break, not past it — and only for what every candle uses.
Everything else is bought to need, and anything that serves one scent is bought small until it has sold.

The ₹25,000 order, bulk lines and small lines

Here is the rule applied to ₹25,000. The groups in the first column are the verdicts from the audit: bulk where the price drops and every candle uses it, small for scent-specific lines, to need where the per-unit price is flat. The lines close exactly on the budget with a labelled reserve.

Total CSI spend ₹17,306.52 + reserve ₹7,693.48 ₹25,000.00 100.0%

In round terms: 37% of the money goes into the two bulk lines, 22% into oils, 2% into testing materials, 5% into tools and 4% into production wicks and stickers, with 31% held back. That reserve is larger than in the ₹10,000 hub on purpose. Keeping the oils small means you expect to reorder — and the reserve is the reorder.

The four production oils are examples from CSI's best-selling sort: Blue Ocean (position 5), Apple Cinnamon (9), Fresh Strawberries (13) and Eucalyptus Spearmint (14). The three 15 g candidates — Japanese Cherry Blossom, Bergamot Amber and Woody Oud — are there to be smelt and tested in one candle each before you decide whether any of them earns a production bottle. Replace any of them with oils you prefer; the structure holds.

The bill of materials and the candle count

With oils kept small on purpose, the oil is the scarcest line — and that is the plan working, not failing.

CSI does not publish the Salsa jar's fill weight. Its 200 ml is brim volume; with a labelled approximation of about 0.86–0.90 g of solid wax per ml, the brim would hold roughly 172–180 g, and a fill below the shoulder less. This page uses an illustrative 160 g candle — weigh one test pour to your fill line and redo the arithmetic with your number. Natural Soy Pearl publishes no fragrance ceiling, so 8% here is a labelled test value inside the general 6–10% starting range, not a specification; ask CSI on WhatsApp for the wax maker's stated maximum before you plan higher. At 160 g and 8%, a candle is 12.8 g of oil and 147.2 g of wax.

Finished candles now 91 — oil is the scarcest line

So the order makes 91 finished candles straight away: 9 test candles (six wick tests and three candidate-oil candles) and 82 for sale. 9 jars, and enough wax for 7 more candles, are left waiting — deliberately. The wax runs out at 98, so 7 of those jars can be filled and the last 2 are breakage spares. Filling the 7 needs about 92.3 g more oil including pour loss: two 100 g bottles of whichever scent sells first, between ₹708.00 and ₹990.00, paid from the reserve. The wax left after the first 91 candles is about 1,203 g.

4 · Round to CSI packs 1 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg = 15,000 g 1 × 100-pack 3 × 100 g
Why this pack Both bags at ₹424.80/kg; 15 × 1 kg would cost ₹6,750.00 ₹29.50 each; 20 × 5-packs would cost ₹4,012.00 100 g is the cheapest per gram short of 500 g

The bulk rule paid for itself in that table. Buying the same 100 jars in 5-packs and the same wax in 1 kg bags would cost ₹10,762.00 instead of ₹9,322.00 — ₹1,440.00 more, for identical materials. That saving is real because both materials have a real price break. Nowhere else in this order does buying bigger save anything comparable.

Why the oils stay small — even the ones with a break

It is tempting to treat oils the same way: if 15 kg of wax was sensible, why not 1 kg of each scent? Because an oil fails the second question. A kilo of Blue Ocean serves Blue Ocean candles only — about 75 of them at this fill — and if Blue Ocean turns out to be the scent your customers pass over, that kilo is dead stock. Four 1 kg bottles would cost ₹16,307.60 and scent about 300 candles, against the 100 jars this budget can buy.

Per-gram price at 100 g against 1 kg · CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026, stock re-checked 4 October 2026
Does 1 kg save anything on these four oils?
Oil 100 g Per g 1 kg Per g 1 kg saving per gram
Blue Ocean ₹495.00 ₹4.95 ₹4,956.00 ₹4.96 -0.1%
Apple Cinnamon ₹474.36 ₹4.74 ₹4,743.60 ₹4.74 -0.0%
Fresh Strawberries ₹377.60 ₹3.78 ₹3,540.00 ₹3.54 6.3%
Eucalyptus Spearmint ₹354.00 ₹3.54 ₹3,068.00 ₹3.07 13.3%

Two of the four show a real 1 kg break — Eucalyptus Spearmint 13.3% and Fresh Strawberries 6.3% — and two are essentially flat. Even the best of them saves ₹0.47 a gram, which on the 300 g this launch needs is ₹141.60. That is the bottom-right box of the diagram: an oil with a real break is still bought small until your sales prove you will use a kilo before it ages. When one does, the ₹75,000 pack-size post and the wholesale-quantities post cover the move.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. The two bulk lines on this page are our cheapest-per-unit products and we are happy to sell them. But we also sell 1 kg of every oil here, and we are telling you not to buy them yet. Four kilos would cost ₹16,307.60 — 65.2% of your budget — for at most a few hundred rupees of per-gram saving, and would leave you no reserve to reorder the scent that actually sells.
The 15 g bottle is a test, not a product
Each 15 g candidate scents one 160 g test candle at 8% with about 1.8 g to spare. That is enough to smell it in wax, cured and lit, beside your four production scents. If a candidate earns a place, buy it at 100 g — the 15 g bottle carries the per-gram premium (Japanese Cherry Blossom ₹6.93 a gram at 15 g against ₹5.00 at 100 g). The 5-deep-or-15-shallow post prices this approach across fifteen oils.

The small testing order, and what it decides

Testing materials are ₹450.40 plus the ₹302.24 of candidate oils. The wick test is wider than in the smaller budgets — three wick types instead of two — because both the jar's fill and the wax's behaviour are unpublished here, so you have less to go on. CSI publishes no wick-per-diameter chart for any jar.

1
Weigh your real fill firstFill one Salsa jar with water to the line you want, weigh it, and convert with the labelled 0.86–0.90 g/ml approximation; then confirm with one weighed wax pour. Replace 160 g with your number everywhere.
2
Pour six wick-test candlesTwo production oils × three wicks: Eco Thin C1, Eco Thick C2 and Cotton Braided. Same wax lot, same 8% test load, same pour day.
3
Pour three candidate candlesOne per 15 g bottle, on the Eco Thin C1. These are for scent judgement only; they do not decide the wick.
4
Cure and burn on a fixed scheduleA labelled checkpoint (for example 7 days), then 3–4 hour burn cycles with full cool-down — a commonly used working practice. Record full-pool time, pool depth, flame height, soot, mushrooming and jar-side warmth.
5
Buy the production wickThe winning type's production pack: Eco Thin C1 100 at ₹590.00 as budgeted; Thick C2 100 at ₹944.00 or Cotton Braided 100 at ₹1,200.00 if one of those wins, the difference coming from the reserve.
6
Then pour production82 candles across the four scents, one scent per session. Leave the remaining jars empty until a reorder tells you which oil to fill them with.

The pass standard is your own: no worse than a candle you trust on every safety line, within the jar supplier's guidance and the candle fire-safety standard you work to. CSI publishes no numeric flame-height or jar-temperature limits, and throw is never traded for a hotter jar. The wick-sample post covers what to add when all three fail.

The opposite mistake: buying the jars small 'until the candles sell'. It feels prudent, but the jar is used by every candle whatever the scent, and in 5-packs it costs ₹10.62 more per jar — ₹1,062.00 more across 100. Fix: keep caution for the lines that are scent-specific. Jars and wax that every candle shares are the safest place in the budget to reach a price break.

The ₹10,000 hub sets the four allocation rules. The ₹50,000 depth-or-breadth post asks the next question — more wax and jars, or more scents. The ₹1 lakh dead-stock post stages oil purchases so nothing sits, and the cash-locked-in-inventory post applies the same bulk test to a running business. If you already own jars, the ₹10,000-with-jars post moves the jar line into oils and wax.

Bulk the things every candle shares, and only up to the price break. Keep everything scent-specific small until it has sold.

A supplier's advice on bulk buying deserves suspicion, so this page shows the price list itself: where our bigger packs are cheaper per unit, where they are not, and where one of ours is fractionally dearer. It recommends bulk on two lines only and tells you not to buy our 1 kg oils yet.

Oil prices are CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026, stock re-checked 4 October 2026. Wax prices are CSI live pricing, re-checked 1 October 2026. Jars and wicks were re-checked 4 October 2026. Tools: scale and thermometer verified 10 September 2026 (Blog 760); pouring jug pulled 24–25 September 2026. Per-unit breaks, pack rounding, leftovers and candle counts are arithmetic shown to two decimals; the allocation adds up to the rupee.

The 160 g Salsa fill is illustrative (CSI does not publish it); the 0.86–0.90 g/ml wax approximation, the 8% test load for Soy Pearl (no ceiling published), 3% pour loss, nine test candles, cure checkpoint and burn cycle are labelled working assumptions. Frequently asked questions

Is it cheaper to buy candle wax in bulk in India?
Only for some waxes. At CSI, Natural Soy Pearl drops 5.6% from 5 kg; CSI 464 is flat per kilo; Luxury Soy Wax Chunks' 10 kg bag is fractionally dearer per kilo than its 5 kg.
Should I buy candle jars in bulk?
If the jar has a break and every candle uses it, yes. The 200 ml Salsa jar falls from ₹40.12 to ₹29.50 at 50; the White Matte jar is ₹70.80 at 5 or 10.
Should I buy fragrance oil in 1 kg packs to start?
No. Most CSI oils cost the same per gram at 100 g and 1 kg, and a kilo of a scent that does not sell is dead stock. Buy 100 g bottles until a scent proves itself.
What is the cheapest way to test new candle fragrances?
A 15 g bottle scents one 160 g test candle at 8% (illustrative fill). CSI's cheapest 15 g is Eucalyptus Spearmint at ₹68.44.
Do candle wicks get cheaper in bigger packs?
Not at CSI: Eco Thin C1 is ₹5.90 a wick from the 20-pack to the 1,000-pack, and Cotton Braided ₹12.00 at every pack. Buy the production wick after the test, to need.
How much of my first candle budget should I keep in reserve?
If you keep oils small, keep more back — this plan holds ₹7,693.48 (31%) to reorder the scents that sell and fill the waiting jars.
Bulk to the break
Bulk what every candle shares. Keep every scent small until it sells.
Salsa 200 ml jars with caps ₹1,475.00 for 50, Natural Soy Pearl ₹2,124.00 for 5 kg, oils from ₹68.44 for 15 g, Eco wicks ₹5.90 each. Tell us your jar, wax and scents and we will price the order and check stock.

Non-price figures and assumptions: CSI convention: fragrance load is a share of the finished candle (160 g at 8% = 12.8 g oil + 147.2 g wax). The Salsa jar's fill is not published; 160 g is illustrative and the 0.86–0.90 g/ml figure is a labelled approximation. What CSI's product pages state (quoted, not CSI test results): Luxury Soy Wax Chunks — maximum fragrance load 13%; Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 — up to 10%, shelf life 60 months in cool, dry storage; Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 — up to 13%, melting point 50–53°C, pour 58–60°C, shelf life 60 months cool and dry; Natural Soy Pearl — no fragrance ceiling, temperatures or shelf life published. Natural Soy Pearl's 8% is a labelled test value. The 15 g oil premium (median 23.1% over 100 g) and the 1 kg comparison come from the 24 September pull. Pour loss, test counts, cure checkpoint and burn cycle are labelled working assumptions. Best-selling positions are the collection's sort order, not sales data. Material costs exclude labour, packaging, freight and GST. Diwali 2026 falls on 8 November.
