Wax → candles · 50 kg · 200 g · 5% wastage
At 8%, each 200 g candle is 184 g of wax, so a 50 kg sack holds 271 candles. Five per cent wastage takes that to 258 you can pour. Test candles and a small buffer bring the number you should promise to 240.
258 candles
poured from 50 kg at 8% after 5% wastage · 271 theoretical · 250 sellable after 8 tests · promise 240 · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
How many 200 g candles from 50 kg of wax? 271 in theory at 8%: 50,000 g ÷ 184 g of wax per candle = 271.74, rounded down. At 6% it is 265; at 10%, 277.

Realistically, with 5% wastage? 258 poured. 50,000 ÷ (184 × 1.05) = 258.80. Keep 8 as test candles and 250 are sellable.

How many should I promise a client? 240. That is 250 less a 3% QC buffer (242.50), rounded down to a clean number.

What else do I need to use the 50 kg? About 4.33 kg of fragrance oil, 258 wicks and 258 jars, plus spares. In Apple Cinnamon, White Matte jars and Cotton Braided wicks, that is ₹42,519.84.
The short answer
Theoretical: 50,000 ÷ (200 × 0.92) = 271.74 → 271. The sack becomes 54.35 kg of candle with 4.35 kg of oil.
Realistic: ÷ 1.05 wastage → 258 · − 8 tests → 250 · × 0.97 QC → 242.50 → promise 240.
To use the sack: 4 × 1 kg + 4 × 100 g Apple Cinnamon ₹20,871.84 · 52 packs of White Matte jars ₹18,408.00 · 270 Cotton Braided wicks ₹3,240.00. Replacement: Natural Soy Pearl 50 kg ₹21,240.00.
50 kg of candle wax → 200 g candles at 8% with 5% wastage 50 kg of wax50,000 g271 theoretical÷ 184 g of wax per candle258 poured÷ 1.05 for 5% wastage250 sellable− 8 test candles240 promised× 0.97 QC buffer, round down Widths are indicative, not to scale. The 8% load, 8 test candles and 3% QC buffer are working assumptions; the 5% wastage is the title's.
Read top to bottom. The sack sets the theoretical ceiling of 271 candles at 8%. The title's 5% wastage takes it to 258 poured. Eight test candles leave 250 sellable. A 3% QC buffer and rounding down give the 240 you put in writing. Each step has a reason, and each can be replaced with your own figure.
Straight answer
I have 50 kg of candle wax. How many 200 g finished candles can I realistically produce when fragrance and 5% wastage are included?
Realistically, 258 candles poured, 250 to sell, and 240 to promise. The steps: a 200 g finished candle at an 8% fragrance load (CSI's default working load) contains 16 g of oil and 184 g of wax, because the load is a share of the finished weight. So the sack's ceiling is 50,000 g ÷ 184 g = 271.74, rounded down to 271; the fragrance oil you add is what lets 50 kg of wax become 54.35 kg of candle. Your 5% wastage then reduces what reaches finished candles: 50,000 ÷ (184 × 1.05) = 258.80, so 258 poured. Keep 8 test candles for wick and burn checks and 250 are sellable; a 3% QC buffer and rounding down give 240 for the client. To use the whole sack you need about 4.33 kg of fragrance oil, 258 wicks and 258 jars. At CSI, the one wax listed in a single 50 kg bag is Natural Soy Pearl Wax (₹21,240.00); no fragrance ceiling is quoted for it in this series, so confirm 8% on the product page.
One line: 271 in the sack, 258 after 5% wastage, 250 to sell, 240 to promise.
Natural Soy Pearl Wax is ₹21,240.00 for 50 kg, ₹424.80 a kilo, the same rate as its 5 kg and 10 kg bags and 5.6% below its 1 kg. At 8%, each 200 g candle uses ₹78.16 of it. No fragrance ceiling is quoted for it in this series; check the product page or ask on WhatsApp.

The funnel, one step at a time

Fifty kilos divided by 200 g is 250. The real answer passes through 271, lands at 258, and should be promised as 240.

The straight division, 50,000 ÷ 200 = 250, happens to land close to the sellable figure, which is why people trust it. It gets there by accident: it ignores the oil (which adds 21 candles) and ignores wastage and tests (which take most of them away again). Change the load, the loss or the candle size and the accident stops working. Do each step on its own.

50 kg of wax · 200 g finished · 8% load · allowances are assumptions except the title's 5%
From sack to promise
Step Operation Candles Wax accounted for
1 · Theoretical 50,000 g ÷ 184 g 271 (271.74) 49,864.0 g in candles, 136.0 g left
2 · 5% wastage 50,000 g ÷ (184 g × 1.05) 258 (258.80) 49,845.6 g incl. wastage
3 · Test candles 258 − 8 250 Wick trial, cure check, retained samples
4 · QC buffer 3% 250 × 0.97 242.50 Rejects at final inspection
5 · Promise round down to 5 240 What goes on the order

Step 2 is where most of the realism sits. At 5% wastage on 50 kg, about 2.38 kg of wax never reaches a finished candle: heels in the melter and jug, spills, unrecoverable rejects. That is 13 candles' worth. Tests take 8 more. If your real wastage is lower, the count rises by about 2.5 candles per point; the 25 kg guide shows how to measure your own figure from one batch, and the 500 × 200 g guide with 3% wastage runs the forward version of this candle.

Promising the straight division. 250 looks like a safe round number from 50 kg, and it is very nearly the sellable figure here. But it leaves no buffer at all: one wick round that needs repeating, one set of jars that crack, and you deliver 245 against a promise of 250. The promise figure exists so that a bad day is still a delivered order. If the client needs exactly 250, you need a little more wax; the forward calculation in the 1,000 × 200 g guide sizes it.

Applying 5% the right way

Five per cent of fifty kilos is 2.5 kg. Whether you divide or subtract it decides whether your buying and your promises agree.

"5% wastage" can be applied two ways when you start from wax, and they give slightly different answers. Neither is wrong, but you should use the one that matches how you add wastage when you buy.

50 kg of wax · 200 g at 8% · 5% wastage
Divide by 1.05, or multiply by 0.95?
Method Usable wax Candles Matches the forward rule…
Divide: wax ÷ 1.05 47,619.0 g 258.80 → 258 need × 1.05 (used across this series)
Multiply: wax × 0.95 47,500.0 g 258.15 → 258 need ÷ 0.95
Difference 119.0 g 0.65 candle Grows with the wastage rate

CSI's forward calculations add wastage by multiplying the need by 1 + wastage (for example, 1,000 candles × 1.05). Running that backwards means dividing the wax by the same 1.05, so the two directions agree: buy for 258 candles at 5% and the sack you buy makes 258. At 5% the two methods land on the same whole number here; at 10% or more they drift apart by a candle or two per 50 kg. Pick one, write it on the sheet, and use it both ways.

Wastage applies to the oil too
Wastage is lost candle mix, wax and oil together, so the oil you buy must cover it: 258 candles × 16 g × 1.05 = 4,334.4 g, not 4,128 g. Buying oil for the poured count without the wastage leaves you 206 g short on the last melt.

Loads and wastage side by side

The title fixes the wastage but not the load. The grid shows the poured count (before tests) at three loads and three wastage levels, so you can read off your own combination. A higher load puts less wax into each candle, so the same sack makes more candles; it also costs more in oil.

50 kg of wax · 200 g finished · candles poured, before test candles
Count by load and wastage
Load Wax per candle No wastage 3% 5% 7%
6% 188 g 265 258 253 248
8% 184 g 271 263 258 253
10% 180 g 277 269 264 259

From 8% to 10% adds about six candles from the sack; from 5% to 3% wastage adds five. The second costs nothing but attention; the first costs about 4 g more oil per candle. For Natural Soy Pearl, no fragrance ceiling is quoted in this series, so treat 6–10% as a labelled test range and confirm on the product page or on WhatsApp. For waxes with published ceilings, Luxury Soy Wax Chunks allow up to 13% and CSI 464 up to 10%. The 10% guide works through what a higher load costs per extra candle.

What "50 kg of candle wax" means at CSI

The title says candle wax, not soy wax. The count above does not depend on which wax it is; the price, the bag sizes and the load ceiling do. Here is what 50 kg costs across CSI's container waxes, with each wax's published fragrance ceiling where one exists.

50 kg in listed, in-stock bags · CSI live pricing, 24 September 2026
Fifty kilos, six waxes
Wax Published fragrance ceiling Bags for 50 kg Price

Fully Refined Paraffin Wax Pellets Not published here 50 × 1 kg ₹17,700.00
Beeswax Pellets Not published here 5 × 10 kg ₹40,000.00

Natural Soy Pearl is the only one that comes as a single 50 kg bag, and the only one of the soy waxes under ₹450.00 a kilo. Paraffin pellets are listed only to 1 kg, so 50 kg is fifty bags; beeswax is the premium at ₹800.00 a kilo. Price is not performance: each wax needs its own wick and burn tests, and a ceiling is a maximum, not a recommendation. For 50 kg or more of any wax, send the quantity on WhatsApp for a quote; no volume discount is published.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. The 50 kg bag of Natural Soy Pearl costs exactly the same per kilo as its 5 kg and 10 kg bags: ₹424.80. Buying the big bag saves handling and gives you one lot to work from; it does not save money over five 10 kg bags. If storage space or cash is tight, the smaller bags cost you nothing extra. The one real step in that ladder is from 1 kg (₹450.00) to anything larger.

The order that turns the sack into candles

You already own the wax. The oil, the wicks and the jars are what stand between the sack and 258 candles.

To pour 258 candles at 8% with 5% wastage, you need 4,334.4 g of fragrance oil, 258 wicks and 258 jars, each with a small spare.

Apple Cinnamon is priced flat at ₹4.74 a gram from 50 g to 1 kg, so the cheapest cover is simply the fewest grams: four kilos and four 100 g bottles. Raw materials per candle come to ₹236.86: 184 g of Natural Soy Pearl, 16 g of Apple Cinnamon, one Cotton Braided wick (₹12.00 at every pack size) and one White Matte jar (₹70.80), excluding labour, labels, lids, freight and GST. The White Matte jar's fill weight is not published; weigh one test pour to confirm 200 g sits at the line you want. Wick sizes per jar are not published either; the Cotton Braided wick is illustrative until your burn test says otherwise.

The CSI principle
The sack sets the ceiling. Your wastage sets the reality. The buffer sets the promise.
Divide by the wax in each candle, divide again by 1 + wastage, take off tests, keep a buffer, round down. Five steps, each with a reason you can explain to a client.

For a promise that also has to respect oil stock, jar deliveries and production days, see the 100 kg commercial-run guide. The smaller-bag versions are 10 kg into 100 g candles and 10 kg at 10% into 200 g candles. For when to reorder once the sack starts emptying, My Wax Supplier Takes 10 Days to Deliver — At What Stock Level Should I Reorder if I Produce 50 Candles Every Day? sets a reorder level from daily production.

Fifty kilos is two hundred and seventy-one candles on paper. Promise two hundred and forty, and deliver all of them.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. This page shows that our 50 kg bag costs the same per kilo as our 10 kg bag, prices the same 50 kg in six waxes so you can compare, and gives you a promise figure that protects your delivery rather than one that sells more wax.

Wax and oil prices are CSI live pricing, pulled on 24 September 2026; jar, wick and equipment prices are as verified in September 2026. Counts are arithmetic on the weights, rounded down; costs are arithmetic on listed prices, shown to two decimals.

The 5% wastage is the title's figure. The 8% load, 8 test candles and 3% QC buffer are working assumptions. No fragrance ceiling is quoted for Natural Soy Pearl in this series; Chunks (13%) and CSI 464 (10%) are the wax makers' stated maximums. Wick sizes and the White Matte jar's fill weight are not published. For help, a quote, MSDS or IFRA documents, message CSI on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Frequently asked questions

How many candles can I make with 50 kg of wax?
For 200 g candles at 8%, 271 in theory. With 5% wastage, 258; after 8 test candles, 250. For 100 g candles at 8%, 543 in theory.
How much fragrance oil do I need for 50 kg of wax?
To scent all 50 kg at a true 8%: 50,000 × 0.08 ÷ 0.92 = 4,347.83 g. For 258 candles poured with 5% wastage: 4,334.4 g.
How do I account for 5% wastage in candle making?
Starting from wax, divide by 1.05: 50,000 ÷ 1.05 = 47,619 g usable. Starting from an order, multiply the need by 1.05. Using the same factor both ways keeps your buying and your promises consistent.
Is 50 kg of soy wax cheaper per kg?
At CSI, Natural Soy Pearl Wax is ₹424.80 a kilo at 5 kg, 10 kg and 50 kg alike; the only step is from the 1 kg (₹450.00). For other waxes, the largest listed bag is 10 kg (paraffin 1 kg). Larger quantities are quoted on WhatsApp.
How many 200 g candles should I promise from 50 kg of wax?
240, with 5% wastage, 8 test candles and a 3% QC buffer. Promising 250 by straight division leaves no margin for a failed batch.
Does fragrance oil increase the number of candles I can make from wax?
Yes. At 8%, 16 g of each 200 g candle is oil, so 50 kg of wax makes 271 candles instead of 250. The oil adds 4.35 kg of candle weight to the sack.
Ceiling, reality, promise
271 in the sack. 258 after 5% wastage. Promise 240.
