one test arm at 10 cm: three Cotton Braided candles, 450 g at 8% Blue Ocean, in CSI's Apothecary jar · CSI live pricing, October 2026
Quick answers — read this first
When should I stop testing bigger single wicks in a 10 cm jar? At Cotton Braided. It is the top tabbed single CSI lists; past it, a further single means unsized braid or another supplier's wick, each costing more cash than a double-wick arm, which needs at most a ₹118.00 C1 pack. So the rule is: stop buying singles when the next single arm costs more than opening the double arm. At CSI that point is Cotton Braided.

What does a test arm cost at 10 cm? In CSI's Apothecary 500 gm jar, three 450 g candles at 8% Blue Ocean cost about the same whatever the wick: ₹1,830.31 on C2, ₹1,837.99 on Cotton Braided, ₹1,837.39 on 2 × C1. The jar alone is ₹212.40 a candle.

Which arms should I buy? Skip a C1 single. Buy C2 and Cotton Braided singles and 2 × C1 and 2 × C2 pairs, three candles each: C1 20 (₹118.00) + C2 10 (₹94.40) + Cotton Braided 10 (₹120.00) = ₹332.40 of wicks.

Does CSI sell a 10 cm jar? The Apothecary Dome Lid jar is about 10 cm across on its page, but that is the outside of a thick-walled jar. On our 0.35 cm wall assumption it is about 9.3 cm inside. If your jar is 10 cm inside, it is your jar, not ours.
The short answer
The stop rule: stop buying larger singles when the next single arm costs more in test candles and cash than opening the double arm. At CSI that is after Cotton Braided.
Buy: C2 and Cotton Braided singles, 2 × C1 and 2 × C2 pairs, three candles each: ₹332.40 of wicks, twelve 450 g candles (36 g Blue Ocean + 414 g CSI 464).
Cash: ₹8,229.20 from nothing in Apothecary jars; ₹5,680.40 if you use your own jars.
The honest limit: CSI's tabbed singles stop at Cotton Braided, the Steel Wick Holder's stated fit stops at 9 cm, and the Apothecary jar's 10 cm is an outside figure.
10 cm: what each test arm costs, and where to stop buying singles One arm = three 450 g candles at 8% (36 g Blue Ocean + 414 g CSI 464) in the Apothecary 500 gm jar (₹212.40 each), plus the wicks. Bars to scale from zero. CSI live pricing, 1 October 2026. Excludes labour, freight, packaging and GST. ₹1,819.69 C1 single skip: can't win ₹1,830.31 C2 single ₹1,837.99 Cotton Braided ₹2,273.99 next single: cut braid ? ₹1,801.99 +? next single: other supplier ₹1,837.39 2 × C1 pair ₹1,858.63 2 × C2 pair STOP buying singles here Cotton Braided is CSI's top tabbed single single arms open the double arm candles: oil + wax + jar + wicks used unused braid you must still buy (5 m roll) unknown cost Every arm costs about the same in candles. Past Cotton Braided, a further single adds cash (a roll, or another supplier's pack, shipping and days); a pair needs at most a ₹118.00 C1 pack. That is the stop rule: the double arm is the cheaper next arm. Your own 10 cm jar instead of the Apothecary changes every bar by the same amount per candle; the order of the bars does not change.
Each bar is one test arm, three 450 g candles in CSI's Apothecary 500 gm jar, priced at CSI live prices on 1 October 2026. The candles dominate every bar, so arms cost almost the same whichever wick goes in. The stop line sits after Cotton Braided because CSI sells no larger tabbed single: a further single means buying a braid roll you will mostly not use, or another supplier's wick at an unknown price, while a pair needs at most a ₹118.00 C1 pack. A C1 single is greyed out because it cannot win in a 10 cm pool.
Straight answer
I have a 10 cm diameter jar. At what point should I stop testing increasingly large single wicks and begin testing two smaller wicks?
Stop at Cotton Braided, and order the pairs with it. The rule is a spending rule: stop buying larger singles when the next single arm costs more in test candles and cash than opening the double arm. At 10 cm every arm of three candles costs about the same in oil, wax and jar (₹1,837.99 for Cotton Braided in CSI's Apothecary jar), so the wick decides only the extra cash. Cotton Braided is the largest tabbed single CSI lists; a further single would be a 5 m braid roll (₹2,273.99 in cash for three candles, most of the roll unused) or another supplier's wick at a price nobody here can quote, while 2 × C1 and 2 × C2 cost ₹1,837.39 and ₹1,858.63 and need at most a ₹118.00 C1 pack. So buy C2 and Cotton Braided singles plus both pairs, three candles each: ₹332.40 of wicks for twelve 450 g candles. Skip a C1 single: it cannot win in 78.54 cm². Buy production wicks only for the configuration whose three candles all pass a full-life burn.
One line: at 10 cm the candles cost the same in every arm, so the next arm should be the one that needs the least new cash: after Cotton Braided, that is a pair.
The 10 cm wick order: Eco C1 20-pack (₹118.00; the 10-pack is out of stock on 1 October 2026), Eco C2 10-pack (₹94.40) and Cotton Braided 10-pack (₹120.00): ₹332.40. All in stock. Nothing bigger until one configuration passes full life.
Cotton Braided — ₹120.00 for 10

The spend-stop rule, in rupees per arm

The wick is the cheapest thing in a test candle. The next arm is the expensive thing.

One arm is three candles of one configuration. At a labelled 450 g fill in the Apothecary 500 gm jar, each candle carries ₹178.20 of Blue Ocean, ₹210.06 of CSI 464 and a ₹212.40 jar: ₹600.66 before the wick. The wick adds ₹5.90 to ₹12.00 per wick. So the arms barely differ in candle cost; they differ in what you must buy to run them.

2 × C2 pair 39.27 cm² each ₹1,858.63 none: the C2 10 bought for the single covers it buy

Read the stop line as a cash comparison. The candles cost the same either way, so the braid route needs ₹354.00 more cash than the 2 × C1 route (a ₹472.00 roll against a ₹118.00 C1 pack), for an unsized wick nobody can place above or below Cotton Braided in advance. The other-supplier route costs an unknown amount plus a shipment and a new wick to qualify. The 2 × C2 arm needs no new pack at all. Past Cotton Braided, every further single fails the rule.

Using your own 10 cm jar instead
Replace the ₹212.40 jar with your jar's price. Every bar moves by the same amount per candle, so the order of the arms, and the stop point, do not change. What changes is how much a wasted arm hurts: at ₹212.40 a jar, an arm you did not need costs about ₹1,830.31.

Whether 10 cm sits in the zone where single and double should both be run is a separate question with its own answer (the run-both zone post); this page owns the spending consequence. The 4-inch planning view (one, two or three wicks before production) is the 4-inch jar post.

Why 10 cm pushes the stop point early

A 10 cm pool is more than one and a half times the 8 cm pool. The singles run out before the surface does.

Pool area is π × r² on the inside diameter: geometry, not a burn prediction. A 10 cm inside jar has 78.54 cm² for one wick, 1.56 times the 50.27 cm² of the 8 cm jar in the cluster hub. Two wicks split it into 39.27 cm² each, which is the area of a single-wick jar about 7.1 cm across: squarely inside the range where CSI's single rungs are tested. That is why the pair, not a bigger single, is the natural next arm.

Pool geometry at 10 cm · declared
π r² on internal diameter · 0.35 cm wall assumed where a figure is the outside
Jar Inside diameter One wick Each of two Two wicks 5.0 cm apart: to the glass
Your jar, 10 cm measured inside 10.0 cm 78.54 cm² 39.27 cm² 2.5 cm
CSI Apothecary Dome Lid jar (page: about 10 cm outer) about 9.3 cm on our wall; less if the wall is thick 67.93 cm² 33.96 cm² 2.15 cm

The 5.0 cm spacing is our labelled starting point, not a rule; moving it, and the trade between edge melting and glass heat, are the wall-gap post and the first-two-sizes post for 10 cm. The rough hour-per-2.5 cm rule puts a first full pool at about 4.0 hours for 10 cm, at the top of the commonly quoted 3–4 hours, so test sessions of 3–4 hours are the minimum that gives a single a fair chance.

Mistake: treating Cotton Braided's "exceeding 8 cm" as "good for 10 cm". Why it fails: the page draws a lower line, not an upper one. Nothing on it says how far past 8 cm a single still reaches the glass with your oil and wax. Fix: buy the Cotton Braided arm to find out, and the pairs with it so the answer does not cost a second order.

The arm you should not buy: a C1 single

An arm that cannot win is not a cheap arm. At 10 cm it is a ₹1,819.69 way to learn nothing.

In the 8 cm hub, a C1 single is the low anchor: expected to fail, it closes the bracket from below. At 10 cm the C2 single does that job, and the 2 × C1 pair tests what C1 can do when it only has 39.27 cm² to melt. A C1 single in 78.54 cm² is the case where our judgement is firm enough to say: don't spend on it. Three candles in Apothecary jars cost ₹1,819.69; you would be paying to watch a small wick tunnel.

Don't buy the C1 single arm: ₹1,819.69 in candles, for a result you can predict. Argued against our own interest: we sell the jars, the oil, the wax and the wicks for that arm. Spend the money on the 2 × C1 arm instead: the same C1 wicks, a result that can actually win.

The same logic trims the top. If Cotton Braided passes at burn 3, keep the pairs burning anyway: a single that reaches the glass early can still run deep or hot in the final third, and the pair is your comparison if it does. If Cotton Braided fails, you have lost nothing by pouring the pairs on the same day.

The twelve-candle order

Two single arms, two double arms, one pour.

The 450 g fill is our labelled worked example for the Apothecary 500 gm jar, whose page states a fill capacity of "~500 g - 700 g": a 450 g pour leaves headspace under the dome lid. Weigh your own fill line, and keep the load at 8% of total candle weight (36 g of oil + 414 g of wax per candle).

Three notes on the lines. Oil: Blue Ocean is one of the oils that does not get cheaper in bigger bottles: ₹4.95 at 100 g, ₹4.96 at 500 g. Five 100 g bottles cost ₹3.00 less than one 500 g and hold the same oil; even the 1 kg costs ₹6.00 more than ten 100 g. Holders: the Wick Centering Device page says it suits openings "less than 4"" (about 10.2 cm), so it just spans a 10 cm rim for the singles; the Steel Wick Holder states a fit "up to 9 cm wide", so it is not the tool here, and the pairs are fixed with stickers through a paper template. Re-pours: a split arm needs 108 g of oil and 1,242 g of wax; the order leaves 68 g and 32 g, so a re-pour means one more 100 g bottle and a 1 kg bag plus a 500 g bag, bought only when an arm splits.

Don't buy the 700 gm jars or the 1 kg oil yet: the Apothecary page gives one set of dimensions for both sizes, so confirm the 700 gm's size before you pour test candles in it, and Blue Ocean's 1 kg costs more than ten 100 g bottles. Argued against our own interest: the cheapest way to run this ladder is the smallest jar that matches your production jar and the smallest oil bottles that cover it.

A singles-first route (C2 and Cotton Braided only, six candles: 100 + 100 + 50 g of oil, three 1 kg bags, six jars, two centring packs) costs ₹4,484.00 from nothing and leaves the pairs for a second order. At 10 cm we would not do it: the second order costs a delivery and a second cure for an arm you will very probably need.

A single large wick that overheats the centre of a 10 cm jar is its own diagnosis (the 10 cm multi-wick hub). The purchase rule here does not change: no production order until all three candles of one configuration pass the full life; how far down that is, the acceptance-depth post.

From the 10 cm winner to a production order

At 10 cm, the jar and the oil are the production bill. The wick is a rounding error with consequences.

Wicks = candles × wicks per candle × (1 + allowance), from packs that add up to the count; the formula and gates are in the hub. Worked example: 80 candles a month, 5% allowance (our figures).

Apothecary 500 gm jars 80 ₹16,992.00 single units at ₹212.40

The wick choice changes the monthly bill by a few hundred rupees; the jar and the oil are thousands. The case for buying the pairs early is not the wick price, it is not pouring 80 jars of ₹212.40 around the wrong configuration. Per-SKU reorder points for a range with more than one wick are the reorder-point post.

Don't buy a 1,000-pack on approval: at 168 C1 a month, a 1,000-pack is about six months of stock at the same ₹5.90 per wick as the 20-pack, exposed to any change of jar, oil or load. Argued against our own interest: buy a month plus safety stock; reorder on the formula.

What to buy for a 10 cm ladder, and what to skip

Five items, in the order the 10 cm ladder needs them, chosen on page statements, price and stock on 1 October 2026. CSI publishes no wick-performance data, so nothing is ranked on burn results. Oil candle counts use 36 g per 450 g candle and 12 g per 150 g candle.

The widest jar whose CSI page states a diameter (the clip-top container's "11cm * 11cm * 10cm" does not say which figure is the width), and the reason this page can price an arm at 10 cm at all. The page states "Diameter (outer rim): Approx. 10 cm", "Base diameter: Approx. 10 cm", "Height (without lid): Approx. 10.8 cm", "Fill capacity: ~500 g - 700 g (2 sizes)" and "Safe for hot-pour up to 85°C", and calls it "thick-walled". Those are outside figures: on our 0.35 cm wall assumption it is about 9.3 cm inside (67.93 cm²), and a thick wall would make it narrower still, so measure. Honest catch: the page gives one set of dimensions for both the 500 gm and the 700 gm; ask us before buying the 700 gm. With CSI 464 (pour 80–90°C), the jar's 85°C hot-pour wording means pouring at 80–85°C; it is a pour limit, not a burn rating.

The page says it is "engineered for large-diameter candles exceeding 8 cm", with "preventing tunneling" as its own claim, and "Height of the wick is 10.16 cm" (check it clears your fill in a 10.8 cm-tall jar). Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 (Flakes Form) For Container Candles
The worked example's wax. The page states "Fragrance Load Up to 10%" and "Pour Temperature 80°C – 90°C"; 8% of total weight is 8.70% of wax weight, inside 10% on either reading. Price is flat at ₹0.51 a gram from 1 kg to 10 kg, so the 5 kg is simply five 1 kg bags in one sack: buy it because twelve candles need 4,968 g, not because it is cheaper per gram.

Skip for this ladder: a C1 single arm (above). Eco Braided Wicks (₹472.00 for 5 m, ₹9.44 per 10 cm cut): unsized, and past the stop line; keep it for the case where both pairs fail. Performance Wooden Wicks (₹590.00 for 10): one listing, no widths; CSI does not sell a wider wooden wick. Steel Wick Holder: its page states a fit up to 9 cm, short of a 10 cm rim.

Diwali is 8 November 2026, 38 days from 1 October 2026. A twelve-candle ladder poured this week reaches burn 3 within days; full-life burns for the leader take the weeks after. Send us the winning configuration and your count, and we will quote wicks, Blue Ocean, CSI 464 and Apothecary jars with a GST invoice and a dispatch date.

The CSI principle
Stop buying singles where our singles stop.
At 10 cm every arm costs about ₹1,830.31 in candles. Past Cotton Braided, a further single costs that plus a roll or another supplier's pack; a pair costs that plus, at most, a ₹118.00 C1 pack. The cheaper next arm is the pair.
"In a wide jar the wick is the cheapest line in the test. Spend on the arm that can win, not the one that is bigger."

Why trust this guide

CandleMakingSuppliesIndia sells the jars, wicks, Blue Ocean and CSI 464 named here, and does not sell finished candles. This page still tells you not to buy a C1 single arm, that bigger tabbed packs save nothing per wick, that Blue Ocean's big bottles cost more per gram, that our Apothecary jar's 10 cm is an outside figure, and that our singles stop at Cotton Braided.

Every price was verified on CSI's live store on 1 October 2026. Stock was checked per size: the Eco C1 10-pack and the 100-sticker sheet are out of stock on that date and are flagged where they appear; every other size shown is in stock. Product wording is quoted from the pages; where a page is silent in the text we captured, we say so.

The stop rule, the "cannot win" call on a C1 single, the 450 g fill, the 0.35 cm wall, the 5.0 cm spacing, the 10 cm braid cut, the 5% allowance and the production figures are our judgement or worked examples; melt-pool times are commonly cited rules of thumb. Frequently asked questions

Should a 10 cm candle have one wick or two?
Test both, and stop buying singles at Cotton Braided, CSI's largest tabbed single. A 10 cm inside jar is 78.54 cm² for one wick, or 39.27 cm² each for two.
What is the biggest single wick CSI sells?
Among tabbed wicks, Cotton Braided Wicks Ready Made; its page describes it for candles "exceeding 8 cm". Beyond it CSI has unsized braid sold by the metre and one wooden wick with no width options.
How much does it cost to wick-test a 10 cm candle?
In CSI's Apothecary 500 gm jar at a 450 g fill and 8% Blue Ocean, about ₹1,830.31 per arm of three candles. Twelve candles (C2, Cotton Braided, 2 × C1, 2 × C2) cost ₹8,229.20 from nothing, or ₹5,680.40 in your own jars.
Does CSI sell a 10 cm candle jar?
The Apothecary Glass Candle Jar with Dome Lid states an outer rim and base of about 10 cm and a fill of about 500–700 g. It is thick-walled, so the inside is narrower; measure it before you treat it as a 10 cm jar.
How far apart should two wicks be in a 10 cm jar?
There is no fixed figure. As a starting point for testing, 5.0 cm apart on a diameter leaves each wick 2.5 cm from the glass of a 10 cm inside jar. Adjust from the burn results.
How much fragrance oil for a 450 g candle at 8%?
36 g of oil and 414 g of wax, with load as a percentage of total candle weight. Twelve candles need 432 g: five 100 g bottles of Blue Ocean (₹2,475.00) cover them and cost less than one 500 g.
Your 10 cm wick ladder
C2 and Cotton Braided singles, 2 × C1 and 2 × C2 pairs: ₹332.40 of wicks, and no single bigger than ours.
Measure the inside of your jar, pour twelve 450 g candles from one pot, burn all four arms on the same days, screen at burn 3 and approve only on the full life. Send us your measurements and we will check the order before you pay.

Non-price figures: load is a percentage of total candle weight (450 g at 8% = 36 g oil + 414 g wax; the standard 150 g candle at 8% = 12 g oil + 138 g wax). The 450 g fill, the 10 cm inside diameter and the 0.35 cm wall are labelled assumptions; pool area = π r² on the inside radius. Ceilings and temperatures are as the pages state (CSI 464 up to 10%, pour 80–90°C; Blue Ocean up to 10%; Apothecary hot-pour up to 85°C): formulation and pour limits, not regulatory ones or burn ratings. Melt-pool times are commonly cited rules of thumb. The stop rule, the skip call, the spacing, the braid cut, the 5% allowance and the 80-candle month are editorial judgement and worked examples. Costs exclude labour, freight, packaging and GST. Diwali 8 November 2026 is a calendar fact.
