Building the order: four allowances on 120 kg

For a scented candle the net wax is the finished weight minus the oil, and ordering candles × weight in wax over-buys. With no fragrance there is no oil to subtract, so the finished candle is exactly its wax. That makes the net calculation trivial: 1,000 × 120 g = 120,000 g. Everything interesting happens after that, in the allowances. A decorative mould candle loses more material on the way to the customer than a jar candle does, because it has to leave the mould intact and be trimmed to look finished.

The order matters. Failed releases and test pours are whole candles, so they are counted in candles and multiplied by the finished weight. Trimming happens on every pour, failures and tests included, because you trim before you know whether a candle passes inspection. Pour loss comes last because it applies to everything that passes through the jug. Done in that order, the allowances add 10.3% to the net. If you had simply added "10% for wastage", you would have been close by luck, and you would not know which allowance to fix when a run goes wrong.

What ordering exactly 120 kg does

It is worth running the shortcut forward to see how it fails. With 1,20,000 g of wax and the same allowances, each pour consumes 124 g (the candle plus its trimmings), and the jug takes 3% on top. That gives 939 pours. Take out 5 test pours and 3% failed releases, and you are left with about 905 good candles. The order is short by 95.

Which wax, at this volume

Decorative unscented candles are often poured to a price, so the wax choice matters more here than on a small scented run. CSI lists several waxes that are commonly used for freestanding candles. Here is the same order priced in each, using listed in-stock packs only:

Paraffin is ₹32,595.00 cheaper on paper for the same grams. Two things stop that from being a like-for-like saving. First, the grams are not the same. Different waxes have different densities and shrink differently, so a mould that gives a 120 g candle in soy pillar wax will give a different weight in paraffin or beeswax. Pour and weigh one in the new wax, then rerun the whole table. Second, availability at volume. Paraffin pellets are listed in 500 g and 1 kg bags, so this order would be 132 separate kilo bags. Ask on WhatsApp whether bulk supply is possible before you plan around it. The semi-refined paraffin listing showed only one unit in stock on the pull date, so treat it as unavailable. Natural Soy Pearl Wax is listed up to 50 kg, but it is not described as a pillar wax. Ask before using it for freestanding shapes.

Wicks, colour and the listed-bag limit

A decorative candle may never be lit, but if it has a wick it must burn safely, so the wick is part of the order. Each pour needs one, including the failed releases, because the wick goes in before you know whether the candle will release cleanly. That makes 1,036 wicks. Two listed options for threaded mould candles:

The roll is far cheaper per candle. The ready-made wicks save cutting time and suit shapes whose height matches their length. The 10 cm per pour is a labelled working length, so measure your mould's height plus the tie-off. Wick size for a 120 g decorative shape is not published, so burn-test before the run. Dye doses per kilo are not published, so follow the dye's product page and match colour on the test pours. Remember that coloured trimmings can only go back into the same colour.

On the listed-bag limit: Soy Pillar Wax is listed up to 10 kg, so 13 × 10 kg + 2 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g is how the store sells this order. At more than 130 kg it is worth a message first. Ask whether the wax can be supplied in larger units, what the lead time is, and whether one batch can cover the whole run, which matters for colour consistency on a decorative range. Moulds are not in the list. You will already have the design, and the number of moulds depends on your deadline and release time.
