Two thousand candles of 150 g at a 10% load hold 30 kg of fragrance oil. The run consumes a little more, and a sensible buyer holds some extra on top so one bad day does not stop the order. This page separates the two, gives three ways to size the extra, and prices it.
30 kg
fragrance oil inside 2,000 × 150 g candles at 10% · 30,960 g consumed with 3% loss and 4 tests · 32,460 g with a 5% safety stock · ₹99,828.00 in Eucalyptus Spearmint · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
How much fragrance oil will 2,000 × 150 g candles at 10% consume? 30,000 g in the candles (15 g each). With a 3% pour allowance (900 g) and four test candles (60 g), the run consumes 30,960 g.

How much extra stock should I keep? Size it by what you want it to cover: 1,500 g for a 5% buffer, 600 g to remake 2% of candles, or 3,090 g for one day's production. See three ways to size it.

What is the total to buy? With a 5% buffer, 32,460 g. For Eucalyptus Spearmint, 32 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g costs ₹99,828.00. At this size, ask for a WhatsApp quote as well.

Is 10% safe for my wax? Luxury Soy Wax Chunks are rated up to 13%, so 10% is inside the ceiling. CSI 464 is rated up to 10%, so 10% is its ceiling. Both are wax makers' stated maximums, not recommended loads.
The short answer
Consumed: 2,000 × 150 g × 0.10 = 30,000 g + 3% loss 900 g + 4 tests × 15 g = 30,960 g.
Extra stock: 5% of net 1,500 g · 2% remakes 600 g · one day at 200 candles 3,090 g. Pick the one that matches the risk you are covering.
Buy: 32,460 g → 32 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g (₹99,828.00). Two weeks of safety stock and reorder points by lead time cover ongoing stock.
2,000 × 150 g at 10% — the oil on the shelf, day by day 0 kg 10 kg 20 kg 30 kg 5% safety stock: 1,500 g Day 0 Day 2 Day 4 Day 6 Day 8 Day 10 Start 32,500 g (32 kg + 500 g) End of run: 1,540 g left 200 candles a day × 15 g × 1.03 = 3,090 g a day; four tests on day 1. Line = oil left in stock. The run consumes 30,960 g. The safety stock is what is still on the shelf when it ends.
The line is the oil on the shelf across a ten-day run of 200 candles a day, starting from a purchase of 32,500 g (the consumption plus a 5% safety stock, rounded to bottles). Each day uses 3,090 g including a 3% pour allowance, and day one also pours four test candles. The run ends at 1,540 g, just above the 1,500 g safety line, which is exactly what a safety stock is for. Production rate and loss are working assumptions.
Straight answer
I need 2,000 × 150 g candles at 10% fragrance — how much fragrance oil will I consume and how much additional stock should I keep?
The candles will hold 30,000 g of oil: at 10% of the finished weight, each 150 g candle is 15 g of oil and 135 g of wax. The run will consume about 30,960 g, because a 3% pour allowance adds 900 g and four test candles add 60 g. Additional stock is a separate decision, sized by what you want it to cover. A 5% buffer on the net is 1,500 g, enough to remake 100 candles. If your real worry is rejects, 2% of the run is 40 candles and 600 g. If it is a lost production day or a slow restock, one day at 200 candles is 3,090 g. With a 5% buffer, buy 32,460 g: for Eucalyptus Spearmint, 32 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g for ₹99,828.00. CSI lists oils up to 1 kg, so that is thirty-three bottles or one quoted quantity on WhatsApp. At 10%, check the wax: Luxury Soy Wax Chunks are rated up to 13% and CSI 464 up to 10%.
One line: 30 kg in the candles, about 31 kg consumed, and a buffer sized by the problem it is meant to solve.
The worked oil is Eucalyptus Spearmint Fragrance Oil, a fresh spa profile and one of the lowest-priced kilos in the collection at ₹3.07 a gram, 13.3% cheaper per gram than its 100 g. At 15 g a candle, that is ₹46.05 of oil in every 150 g candle.
Buy Eucalyptus Spearmint

What the run consumes

Fifteen grams in each of two thousand candles is thirty kilograms. That is the part that ships.

CSI's convention is that load is a share of the finished candle weight. A 150 g candle at 10% holds 150 × 0.10 = 15 g of oil and 135 g of wax. Two thousand of them hold 30,000 g of oil and 270,000 g of wax, 300 kg of finished candle in all.

2,000 × 150 g at 10% · load as share of finished weight · allowances labelled
From the candles to consumption
Line Basis Oil Running total
In 2,000 candles 2,000 × 15 g 30,000 g 30,000 g
Pour loss 3% of net (working assumption) 900 g 30,900 g
Test candles 4 × 15 g 60 g 30,960 g
Wax, for comparison 2,000 × 135 g, +3%, +4 tests — 278,640 g

Makers commonly plan 3–5% extra for pour loss and test burns. At this scale, the choice between 3% and 5% is 600 g of oil, forty candles' worth, so measure it on the first day instead of guessing. Weigh every bottle when you open it and again at the end of the day; the drop is the real consumption. The consumption ledger sets out that method in full.

At 10%, the load convention matters more than at lower loads. Taking 10% of the 270 kg of wax gives 27,000 g of oil, a true load of 9.09% and 3,000 g short. That single mistake is twice the whole 5% safety stock on this page. Ordering from the finished weight explains why, and calculating wax for 2,000 × 150 g covers the 270 kg.

Check the wax ceiling before a 10% run
Luxury Soy Wax Chunks are rated up to 13%, so 10% leaves three points of room. Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 is rated up to 10%, so a 10% candle is at the wax maker's stated maximum, and generous top-ups or a heavy hand on the scale can push it over. For every other CSI wax no ceiling is published in this data; check the product page or ask on WhatsApp.

How much extra to keep

"Keep some extra" is not a quantity. Decide what the extra is for, and the quantity follows.

Pour loss and test candles are spent by the run. Additional stock is different: you hope not to use it. It exists to cover specific problems, and each problem gives a different size. Three common ways to size it for a one-off order of this size:

Eucalyptus Spearmint · consumption 30,960 g + extra stock · cheapest in-stock cover
Three ways to size the extra, and what each costs
Method Basis Extra oil Total to buy Cheapest cover Cost Covers
No extra — 0 g 30,960 g 31 × 1 kg ₹95,108.00 nothing beyond the plan
5% of net oil 0.05 × 30,000 g 1,500 g 32,460 g 32 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g ₹99,828.00 100 candles
Remake capacity, 2% rejects 40 candles × 15 g 600 g 31,560 g 31 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g + 4 × 15 g ₹97,033.76 40 candles
One production day 200 candles × 15 g × 1.03 3,090 g 34,050 g 34 × 1 kg + 1 × 50 g ₹1,04,524.40 206 candles

A percentage buffer is simple and scales with the order. Five percent of 30,000 g is 1,500 g, which covers a hundred remade candles or an unexpected spike in loss. Remake capacity is more precise if you know your reject rate: if about 2% of candles are rejected for surface defects, cracked jars or bad wicks, you need oil for forty remakes, 600 g. Production days suit a run spread over time: one day at 200 candles is 3,090 g, and it protects the schedule rather than the unit count.

For a one-off order, pick the largest of the methods that match a real risk, not the sum of all three. If rejects are your main worry, 600 g is enough. If a stalled day would cost you a delivery date, keep 3,090 g. The 5% line sits between the two and is the default used for the rest of this page.

The buffer that was really a second order. A maker keeps "a bit extra" by rounding a 30,960 g need up to 35 kg. After the run there is 4 kg of Eucalyptus Spearmint on the shelf, over ₹12,000 of stock, and no reorder for months. Nothing went wrong, so none of it was used. Size the extra for the problems you are insuring against, and treat anything beyond that as a purchase for the next order, decided when that order exists.
The CSI principle
Consumption is a calculation. Extra stock is a decision.
The run will consume 30,960 g whatever you think of it. How much more you hold depends on your reject rate, your schedule and your cash. Write the two on separate lines, and make the second one on purpose.

If the order is likely to repeat, the extra becomes the opening stock for the next run, and the question turns into inventory: how much to hold between orders, and when to reorder given how long a restock takes. Lead times are not published in CSI's data, so ask on WhatsApp for current availability. Reorder points for fast and slow fragrances, two weeks of safety stock and the reorder trigger for a bestseller take it from there.

The stock, day by day

A ten-day run of 200 candles a day makes the numbers concrete. Each day uses 3,090 g of oil (200 × 15 g × 1.03), and day one also pours the four test candles. Starting from a purchase of 32,500 g, which is the consumption plus a 5% safety stock rounded to real bottles:

200 candles a day · 3% daily pour allowance · tests on day 1 · start 32,500 g
Oil left on the shelf at the end of each day
Day Candles poured (cumulative) Used that day Left on the shelf Days of production it covers
Day 1 200 3,150 g 29,350 g 9.5
Day 2 400 3,090 g 26,260 g 8.5
Day 3 600 3,090 g 23,170 g 7.5
Day 4 800 3,090 g 20,080 g 6.5
Day 5 1,000 3,090 g 16,990 g 5.5
Day 6 1,200 3,090 g 13,900 g 4.5
Day 7 1,400 3,090 g 10,810 g 3.5
Day 8 1,600 3,090 g 7,720 g 2.5
Day 9 1,800 3,090 g 4,630 g 1.5
Day 10 2,000 3,090 g 1,540 g 0.5

The shelf never goes below the 1,500 g line in a normal run; it finishes at 1,540 g. That is the point of a safety stock: if pour loss runs at 5% instead of 3%, the run uses 600 g more and finishes at 940 g, still with oil to spare. If thirty candles have to be remade, the run uses another 450 g. Both problems are absorbed without an emergency order. Keep the safety bottles sealed and labelled until a problem actually calls for them.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. We could suggest thirty-five kilos "to be safe". On this run, thirty-two kilos and a 500 g already hold a 1,500 g buffer, and rounding up to thirty-five kilos adds ₹7,552.00 of stock that no plan calls for. If the client reorders, buy for that order when it arrives. The listed kilo price is flat enough that buying later costs you nothing per gram.

Buying thirty-odd kilos

CSI lists oils up to 1 kg. At thirty-two and a half kilos, the listing tells you the price; a quote may tell you more.

On the listing, 32,460 g of Eucalyptus Spearmint is 32 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g, ₹99,828.00. This oil is one of the 24 in the collection with a genuine kilo saving: ₹3.07 a gram at 1 kg against ₹3.30 at 500 g and ₹3.54 at 100 g. Buying the same 30 kg in 100 g bottles would cost ₹1,06,200.00, ₹14,160.00 more than thirty kilos. So the kilo is clearly the right listed unit. For a single quantity this large, also ask for a WhatsApp quote. No volume discount figure is published, so compare any quote per gram against ₹3.07.

The order on three fresh oils
Oil Run only Run + 5% buffer Buffer costs Per candle at 15 g (1 kg rate)
Eucalyptus Spearmint ₹95,108.00 ₹99,828.00 ₹4,720.00 ₹46.05

The buffer column is the price of insurance: ₹4,720.00 for Eucalyptus Spearmint, about ₹2.36 per candle across the order. For a premium oil the same 1,500 g costs far more, which is one reason makers carry larger buffers on cheap, fast-moving scents and smaller, more precisely sized ones on expensive ones. Storage life is not published in this data; keep bottles sealed, cool and away from light, and ask on WhatsApp for the MSDS and storage guidance for the oil you choose.

That is ₹144.49 per saleable candle for oil, wax and wick with the whole safety stock included, before jars, labour, packaging, freight and GST. The wax uses 5 kg bags because the Chunks' 5 kg is listed at ₹599.00 a kilo against ₹599.90 in the 10 kg. Jars are your own 150 g container; CSI does not publish fill weights for most of its jars, so confirm the fill with a weighed pour. Wick size for a 10% candle in your jar is not published either; the four test candles are there to confirm it.

If the 2,000 is split across fragrances, calculate consumption and extra stock per oil. A fast-moving scent may justify a larger buffer than a slow one. Fragrance inventory when some scents sell five times faster and a 60:40 two-scent order of 2,000 cover the split.
Diwali is Sunday 8 November 2026, and the November–February wedding season follows. A 2,000-candle run uses about 3 kg of oil a day, and a restock in peak season cannot be guaranteed. Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. "Keep extra" is advice that always sells more. This page sizes the extra by what it covers, recommends the smallest buffer that matches a real risk, and says plainly that a thirty-fifth kilo is a purchase for an order that does not exist yet.

Oil and wax prices are CSI live pricing pulled on 24 September 2026. Wick prices are those verified for Blog 760 on 10 September 2026. Out-of-stock sizes are never offered as buyable. The 30 kg figure is arithmetic (2,000 × 150 g × 0.10), and the draw-down table is arithmetic on the stated daily rate and allowances.

The 3% pour loss, four test candles, 200-candles-a-day schedule, 2% reject rate and the 5% safety stock are working assumptions. Lead times and storage life are not published; ask on WhatsApp. The 13% (Luxury Soy Wax Chunks) and 10% (CSI 464) ceilings are wax makers' stated formulation maximums, not regulatory. CSI lists oils up to 1 kg per listing; larger quantities are quoted with no published discount. Message us at +91 7397976926.

Frequently asked questions

how much fragrance oil for 2000 candles 150g at 10%
30,000 g in the candles (15 g each). With a 3% pour allowance and four test candles, the run consumes 30,960 g.
how much extra fragrance oil should I keep in stock
Size it by the risk: a 5% buffer on the net (1,500 g here), enough oil to remake your usual reject rate (2% = 600 g here), or a set number of production days (3,090 g for one day at 200 candles). Pick the largest that matches a real risk, not the sum.
what is the difference between consumption and safety stock
Consumption is what the run uses: oil in the candles, pour loss and tests. Safety stock is extra you hold and hope not to use. It covers remakes, higher loss or a stalled day, and whatever survives becomes the next order's opening stock.
how many kg of fragrance oil per day for 200 candles
At 150 g and 10%, 200 × 15 g = 3,000 g in the candles, or 3,090 g with a 3% pour allowance. At 8%, 2,400 g and 2,472 g.
can I buy 30 kg of fragrance oil at once
CSI lists oils up to 1 kg per listing, so 30 kg is thirty 1 kg bottles of an in-stock oil, or one quantity quoted on WhatsApp. No volume discount figure is published; compare any quote per gram with the listed kilo price.
how long can I store fragrance oil
Storage life is not published in CSI's data. Keep bottles sealed, cool and away from light, open one at a time, and ask on WhatsApp for the oil's MSDS and storage guidance before holding large stocks.
Consume on plan, keep on purpose
30 kg in the candles, 30.96 kg consumed, and 1.5 kg left on the shelf when it goes right.
Eucalyptus Spearmint from ₹68.44 for 15 g to ₹3,068.00 a kilo, 73 oils in stock at 1 kg, Luxury Soy Wax Chunks (rated up to 13%) in 5 kg and 10 kg bags, and wicks in packs up to 1,000. For a run this size, send us the order and we will quote it.
