I Need 250 × 180 g Candles at 8% Fragrance — Is a 5 Kg Fragrance Oil Pack Enough for the Production Run?

The calculation uses CSI's convention: load is a share of the finished candle weight. So a 180 g candle at 8% is 180 × 0.08 = 14.4 g of oil, and 180 − 14.4 = 165.6 g of wax. The decimal is real. At 180 g, the oil per candle is not a round number, so keep the decimal through the calculation and round only when you buy.

So the answer to the title is yes, with room. The run uses three-quarters of five kilos, and the quarter left over is about 84 more candles at the same size and load. Whether that spare is useful depends entirely on what happens after this order, which is why the second half of this page is about whether to buy 5 kg rather than whether it is enough.

The allowances are working assumptions. Makers commonly plan 3–5% extra for pour loss and test burns. At 5% pour loss the need becomes 3,823.2 g and the spare 1,176.8 g, still a comfortable margin. Three test candles suit an oil you have used before. If Mango Coconut is new in your wax, pour a proper round first; sizing a test round shows how many grams that takes.

What 5 kg covers

Five kilos is a fixed quantity, so it helps to know how far it stretches if the order changes. Three ways to look at it: by load, by candle size and by candle count.

Five kilos covers this run at 6%, 8% and 10%. At 12% it does not. 12% is also only allowed in Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, which is rated up to 13%; CSI 464 is rated up to 10%. Those are the wax makers' stated formulation maximums, not recommended loads. If you are still choosing between 8% and 10%, 5 kg covers either, which is one situation where buying the larger quantity before testing is reasonable.

The size row is useful when a client changes the spec. If the 180 g grows to 200 g, 5 kg still covers the order net (4,000 g) and with allowances (4,168 g). It stops covering 250 units at about 240 g with allowances. For the reverse question, with 5 kg already on the shelf, how many 200 g candles 5 kg makes before a reorder works through it.

What "a 5 kg pack" means at CSI

Some suppliers list 5 kg containers. CSI's Fragrance Oils collection lists sizes of 15 g, 50 g, 100 g, 500 g and 1 kg, and not every oil offers every size. There is no 5 kg listing. You can get 5 kg of an in-stock oil in two ways:

Five separate bottles have one practical advantage: you open one kilo at a time, and the rest stay sealed until needed. Ask about lot consistency if uniformity across all five matters. It is not published in CSI's data, so the honest answer comes from asking on WhatsApp and keeping a retained sample from each bottle. If you are comparing CSI against a supplier who lists a 5 kg pack with a lower per-gram rate, compare the per-gram price, then check how much of the 5 kg you will use before it matters. When a 5 kg rate justifies the purchase works that out from monthly sales.

Buy 5 kg, 4 kg or exactly enough

Note how its price ladder shapes the answer: the 500 g and 1 kg are both ₹3.96 a gram, but the 100 g is ₹5.00 and the 50 g ₹5.00, so small top-up bottles carry a real premium on this oil.

Four kilos is the practical sweet spot for a one-off run. It costs ₹638.78 more than the exact cover, and for that you get 235 g more oil in four sealed bottles instead of eight mixed ones. Because the extra small bottles in the exact cover are priced at ₹5.00 a gram, the fourth kilo is nearly free insurance. Five kilos costs ₹3,964.00 more than four and adds 1,000 g of spare, about 67 more candles. That is only worth it with a second order on the books. The net-only option is shown to make the point that it is not enough: without any allowance, the last few candles would run short.

The 250-candle order

That is ₹173.78 per saleable candle for oil, wax and wick, before jars, labour, packaging, freight and GST. At this size, a quote on WhatsApp for the wax and oil together is sensible: the order is over 47 kg of material, and larger quantities are quoted individually. Wick size for your 180 g jar is not published; confirm it in the test candles.
