500–1,000 Candle Orders
A 200 g candle at 8% is 184 g of wax and 16 g of oil, so 500 of them are 92 kg of wax and 8 kg of oil. Add your tests, rejects and pour loss, round to real bags and bottles, and the order is a number you can check line by line.
98.63 kg
of soy wax and 8.58 kg of fragrance oil for 500 saleable 200 g candles at 8% · 10 tests, 2% rejects, 3% pour loss · CSI live pricing, October 2026
Quick answers — read this first
How many kg of wax? 92 kg net (500 × 184 g), 98.63 kg with 10 test candles, 2% rejects and 3% pour loss. In Soy Pearl: 1 × 50 kg + 4 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg + 4 × 1 kg for ₹42,156.00.

How many kg of fragrance oil? 8 kg net (500 × 16 g), 8.58 kg with allowances — 8 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g + 1 × 100 g of Japanese Cherry Blossom for ₹41,736.00.

Why not just 100 kg of wax? Because 8% of every candle is oil. "100 kg of wax plus 8 kg of oil" over-orders 8 kg of wax before allowances and 8.58 kg after them.

What does the whole order cost? ₹1,26,450.40 in CSI materials with White Matte jars and Thin C1 wicks — ₹252.90 per saleable candle. See the priced list.
The short answer
Answer: 500 × 200 g at 8% = 92 kg wax + 8 kg oil net; 98.63 kg wax + 8.58 kg oil with 10 tests, 2% rejects and 3% pour loss.
Why: Load is a share of the finished candle: oil = 200 × 0.08 = 16 g, wax = 184 g. Ordering the finished weight as wax counts the oil twice.
Method: Net kilograms → tests → rejects → pour loss → breakage on glass → round to listed bags and bottles → buy everything but production wicks now. Make it a procurement sheet.
500 × 200 g at 8%: the kilograms, from shortcut to bags One bar per stage · drawn to scale · wax shaded, oil black · Natural Soy Pearl + Japanese Cherry Blossom example The shortcut 100 kg “wax” 8 kg oil 108 kg bought for 100 kg of candle Net formula 92 kg wax 8 kg oil = 100 kg of finished candle With allowances 98.63 kg wax 8.58 kg oil 10 tests · 2% rejects · 3% pour loss Bought in bags 99 kg Soy Pearl 8.6 kg oil 1 × 50 kg + 4 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg + 4 × 1 kg The shortcut over-orders 8 kg of wax before any allowance; with the same allowances it buys 8.6 kg too much.
The same 500 × 200 g order at four stages, drawn to scale. The shortcut counts the oil twice; the net formula splits 100 kg of candle into 92 kg of wax and 8 kg of oil; the allowances (10 test candles, 2% rejects, 3% pour loss — labelled working assumptions) lift both; and the last bar is what the bags and bottles actually hold.
Straight answer
I need to manufacture 500 × 200 g soy candles at 8% fragrance load — how many kilograms of wax and fragrance oil should I order?
Order 98.63 kg of soy wax and 8.58 kg of fragrance oil. The net formula is 92 kg of wax and 8 kg of oil, because at 8% each 200 g candle is 184 g of wax and 16 g of oil. The extra covers 10 test candles, a 2% reject allowance and 3% pour loss — labelled working assumptions to replace with your own. Do not order 100 kg of wax with the oil on top: that counts the oil twice and over-buys 8 kg before allowances. In CSI packs: Natural Soy Pearl 1 × 50 kg + 4 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg + 4 × 1 kg (₹42,156.00; the 50 kg bag is the same ₹424.80 a kilo as the 10 kg) and Japanese Cherry Blossom 8 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g + 1 × 100 g (₹41,736.00). With 535 White Matte jars, stickers and Eco wicks the order is ₹1,26,450.40; only the production wicks wait for your burn trial.
One line: 92 kg of wax and 8 kg of oil net — then tests, rejects and pour loss, then bags.
500 candles × 200 g at 8% = 98.63 kg of soy wax and 8.58 kg of fragrance oil once you add 10 test candles, 2% rejects and 3% pour loss (92 kg and 8 kg net). In CSI packs that is 1 × 50 kg + 4 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg + 4 × 1 kg of Natural Soy Pearl (₹42,156.00) and 8 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g + 1 × 100 g of Japanese Cherry Blossom (₹41,736.00). With wicks, stickers and 535 White Matte jars the order is ₹1,26,450.40. Start with the wax: Natural Soy Pearl Wax at ₹4,248.00 per 10 kg.

The kilograms, in one line each

Five hundred 200 g candles weigh 100 kg. Ninety-two of those kilos are wax.

At CSI's convention the 8% is a share of the finished candle. Each 200 g candle is therefore 16 g of fragrance oil and 184 g of wax, and 500 of them need 92 kg of wax and 8 kg of oil before any allowance. That is the whole calculation. Every other number on this page is what happens when you add the test candles, rejects and pour loss you will really have, and then round to bags you can really buy.

The mistake that costs money at this scale is reading "500 × 200 g" as "100 kg of wax" and buying the 8 kg of oil on top. That orders 8 kg more wax than the candles can hold — 8.7% too much. Carry the same mistake through the allowances and it asks for 107.20 kg of wax instead of 98.63 kg: 8.58 kg too much, about ₹3,798.00 of Soy Pearl that sits on the shelf after the order ships. At 100 candles that error is a couple of bags; at 500 it is a pallet corner.

8% of finished weight · net, before any allowance · CSI convention
Kilograms of wax and oil for 200 g candles at 8%
Candles Finished candle Wax (92%) Oil (8%) The shortcut's wax Over-order
100 20.0 kg 18.4 kg 1.6 kg 20.0 kg 1.6 kg
250 50.0 kg 46.0 kg 4.0 kg 50.0 kg 4.0 kg
500 100.0 kg 92.0 kg 8.0 kg 100.0 kg 8.0 kg
1,000 200.0 kg 184.0 kg 16.0 kg 200.0 kg 16.0 kg

Two shortcuts make the table easy to carry in your head. Every 100 candles of 200 g at 8% is 18.4 kg of wax and 1.6 kg of oil. And the shortcut's over-order is always exactly the oil weight, because it counts the oil twice — once inside "100 kg of wax" and once in the bottles on top. The actual wax weight per candle post explains the split for a single candle; the 1,000 × 200 g post doubles everything here and compares all four CSI container waxes at that scale.

Which way does your recipe write 8%?
Some recipes write the load as a share of the wax: 80 g of oil per 1 kg of wax. That is a true load of 7.41% of the finished candle, not 8%. To hit a true 8% on a fixed wax weight, the oil is wax × 0.08 ÷ 0.92 — 86.96 g per kg of wax. For this order that convention gap is worth 640 g of oil: 92 kg × 8% = 7,360 g, against the 8,000 g that a true 8% needs. Use one convention for the whole order and write it on the batch sheet.

From 100 kg of candle to a purchase quantity

The allowances go on in a fixed order, each once. Ten whole test candles first — enough for a three-candle trial of two wick candidates plus four spares to check cold and hot throw before the run. Then a 2% reject allowance (an example; use your own history), applied by dividing by 0.98 so that 2% of what you pour can fail and you still have 500. Then 3% pour loss on the wax and oil, which is what sticks to jugs, melters and the pouring funnel. Then 2% breakage on the glass only. All four figures are labelled working assumptions — replace them with your own.

500 × 200 g at 8% · allowances are labelled working assumptions
The allowance stack, step by step
Step Allowance Mixture Wax Oil Jars Wicks
0 · Net order 500 × 200 g 100,000 g 92,000.0 g 8,000.0 g 500 500
1 · Test candles + 10 whole candles 102,000 g 93,840.0 g 8,160.0 g 510 510
2 · Rejects ÷ (1 − 2%) 104,081.6 g 95,755.1 g 8,326.5 g 520.41 → 521 521
3 · Pour loss × (1 + 3%) — wax and oil only 107,204.1 g 98,627.8 g 8,576.3 g not applied not applied
4 · Breakage × (1 + 2%) — glass only — — — 531 not applied

So the purchase quantities are 98.63 kg of wax, 8.58 kg of oil, 521 wicks and stickers, and 531 jars. Notice the oil is still exactly 8% of the mixture at every step: the allowances scale the batch, they never change the formula. The 105-or-110 pieces post argues the size of the buffer itself; the 1,000 saleable candles post splits it into pilots, burn tests, rejects and replacements.

How many bags: the same 98.63 kg in each CSI wax

At this scale the pack question is not 1 kg or 5 kg. It is how many 10 kg bags, and whether a 50 kg bag changes anything.

CSI's listed container soy wax bags stop at 10 kg. Natural Soy Pearl is the one exception, listed at 50 kg as well, in limited stock — confirm on WhatsApp before you plan around it. The table shows the cheapest listed in-stock cover for the same requirement in each wax, chosen to keep the bag count sensible where the price is a tie.

Soy Pearl None published 1 × 50 kg + 4 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg + 4 × 1 kg 10 ₹42,156.00 372 g · ₹158.51
CSI 464 10% 9 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg + 4 × 1 kg 14 ₹50,232.60 372 g · ₹188.88
Chunks 13% 19 × 5 kg + 4 × 1 kg 23 ₹59,301.00 372 g · ₹222.97
CSI 468 13% 9 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg + 4 × 1 kg 14 ₹63,115.00 372 g · ₹237.32

Three pack facts decide those rows. Soy Pearl's 50 kg bag is not cheaper per kilo: ₹21,240.00 for 50 kg is ₹424.80 a kilo, exactly the 5 kg and 10 kg rate — so 9 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg + 4 × 1 kg costs the same ₹42,156.00. Take the 50 kg bag if it suits your storage, not for the price. Chunks are cheapest in 5 kg bags: ₹2,995.00 per 5 kg is ₹599.00 a kilo, while the 10 kg bag is ₹599.90; the 500 g bag is a rupee a kilo cheaper still, but nineteen 5 kg bags are a more sensible delivery than almost two hundred 500 g bags. CSI 464 and CSI 468 are flat from 5 kg, so their 10 kg bags simply mean fewer bags.

The spread between Soy Pearl and Chunks on this order is ₹17,145.00. That is real money, and it is the honest case for testing the cheaper wax first. It is not a performance verdict: CSI publishes no throw, frosting, adhesion or heat data for any wax, and Soy Pearl's page publishes no fragrance ceiling, so an 8% Soy Pearl candle is a tested starting point rather than a figure inside a stated limit. Chunks' page states a 13% maximum, which covers 8% with headroom. If you already pour one of these and your candles pass, keep it — the one-large-wax-pack post covers why switching wax mid-order is the expensive kind of saving.

The trap: ordering "100 kg" because it is a round number. Ten 10 kg bags look tidy on a purchase order. For Soy Pearl it is ₹324.00 more than the cover you need, and for Chunks the 10 kg bags cost more per kilo than 5 kg bags. Fix: order to the stacked requirement (98.63 kg), let the cheapest listed combination decide the bag mix, and price the leftover before you accept it.

The oil in kilograms, and in bottles

The oil is 8.58 kg with allowances. CSI's oils stop at 1 kg per listing, so a multi-kilo order is several 1 kg bottles (or a WhatsApp quote for larger volumes; no discount figure is published). Japanese Cherry Blossom is one of the oils that gets slightly cheaper per gram at 1 kg — ₹4.84 a gram against ₹5.00 at 100 g and 500 g — so the cheapest cover is 8 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g + 1 × 100 g for ₹41,736.00, leaving 24 g (₹114.89). Buying the same oil in 100 g bottles would cost ₹43,000.00, ₹1,264.00 more, and mean 86 bottles to open.

Japanese Cherry Blossom · CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026, stock re-checked 4 October 2026
Where the per-gram price actually steps
Pack Price Per gram Bottles for this order Cost for this order
50 g ₹270.00 ₹5.40 172 ₹46,440.00
100 g ₹500.00 ₹5.00 86 ₹43,000.00
500 g ₹2,500.00 ₹5.00 18 ₹45,000.00
1 kg ₹4,842.00 ₹4.84 9 ₹43,578.00
Cheapest mix 8 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g + 1 × 100 g ₹41,736.00

That break is the exception, not the rule. Of the oils that list both 100 g and 1 kg, most are within about 1% per gram; only a couple of dozen are 5% or more cheaper at 1 kg. On CSI's listed catalogue a bigger bottle mostly buys fewer bottles and stock security. If you are running the same 500 candles at 6% or 10%, the oil moves by 2.00 kg per two points before allowances — the 6% versus 8% post and the 1,000 × 200 g at 10% post work those through.

The priced order, and what waits for the wick test

This is a single-fragrance order for your own range, so the oil does not wait for a client. The only material that depends on a result is the wick: wick size per jar diameter is not published for any CSI wick, and no chart can replace a burn in your jar. So the wax, the oil, the jars and the stickers are stage one, along with two small wick packs for the trial — Eco Thin C1 (20-pack; the 10-pack is out of stock) and Eco Thick C2 (10-pack). The production wicks are stage two.

The order works out at ₹252.90 per saleable candle because it also pays for the trial, the rejects, the pour loss, the breakage and the pack rounding. The jar is the largest single line — ₹37,878.00, more than the wax — which is worth knowing before you choose glass for a price-sensitive range.

Receiving 100 kg of wax: what to check before you pour

A 500-candle order is often the first time a workshop takes in this much material at once, and a few minutes at the door save a bad week later. CSI publishes no lot numbers, certificates of analysis or batch-consistency data, so the record-keeping is yours. It does not need to be elaborate.

1
Count bags against the order10 wax bags for the Soy Pearl order above, 10 oil bottles, 54 jar packs. Note any damaged bag or bottle before signing for the delivery.
2
Write a lot label on every bagOrder date + pack size + a running number, in marker on the bag. That is your lot record.
3
Keep a retained sample200–300 g from the first bag you open, sealed and labelled. If a later bag behaves differently, you have something to compare it with.
4
Store cool, dry and off the floorWax and oil both keep better away from heat and sunlight. CSI's pages state 60 months in cool, dry storage for CSI 464 and CSI 468; Soy Pearl's page publishes no shelf life.
5
Weigh one jar to the fill lineCSI does not publish a fill weight for the White Matte Glass Jar. Pour one to the line you want, weigh it, and confirm 200 g before the trial. If it holds a different weight, re-run W in the stack.
6
Pour the wick trialThree candles on each wick candidate, cured to the same checkpoint, burned in matched 3–4 hour cycles (a commonly used working cycle). Order production wicks for the winner.
Argued against our own interest, plainly. The cheapest way to buy this order from us is Soy Pearl, not our dearer waxes, and the 50 kg Soy Pearl bag saves you nothing over five 10 kg bags — it is the same ₹424.80 a kilo. We also would not sell you 500 production wicks before your trial: buy two small packs for ₹212.40, burn them, and order the winner.
Diwali is Sunday 8 November 2026. A 500-candle run poured in October needs its wax, oil and jars in the workshop early, with the wick trial done before the production pour. Send us the candle weight, jar, oil and quantity on WhatsApp and we will price it with the bags and bottles counted. Larger quantities than the listed packs are quoted on WhatsApp; no discount figure is published.

Not 200 g, or not 8%? Per 100 candles, multiply the candle weight by 0.92 for wax and 0.08 for oil at 8%. At other loads the split changes and so does the oil bill — the 1,000 × 150 g mixture post shows the split at 6%, 8% and 10%. Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. The cheapest way to buy this order from us is our cheapest container soy wax, and the page says so — along with the fact that our 50 kg bag is not cheaper per kilo than our 10 kg bag.

Soy-wax prices are CSI live pricing, re-checked 1 October 2026. Oil prices are CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026, stock re-checked 4 October 2026. Wick, jar and sticker prices were re-checked 4 October 2026. Kilogram splits, allowance stacks, bag counts, leftovers and per-candle costs are arithmetic, shown so you can check every line.

The 8% load is the reader's figure. The 10 test candles, 2% rejects, 3% pour loss, 2% breakage, the 3–4 hour burn cycle and every non-CSI cost are labelled working assumptions or examples. CSI publishes no wick-size charts, throw data, fill weight for the White Matte jar, lot numbers or volume discounts. What CSI's product pages state (quoted, not CSI test results): Luxury Soy Wax Chunks — maximum fragrance load 13%, cure minimum 48 hours, ideally 1–2 weeks; Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 — fragrance load up to 10%; Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 — fragrance load up to 13%, melting point 50–53°C, pour 58–60°C; Natural Soy Pearl — no fragrance ceiling, temperatures or shelf life published. The 10 test candles, 2% rejects, 3% pour loss, 2% breakage, the 3–4 hour burn cycle, the retained-sample size and every non-CSI cost are labelled working assumptions or examples.
