Product Brief · Candles + Melts
Calculate the candle oil and the melt oil separately, each at its own load and allowances. Add them per scent in grams. Round to bottles once. That order is what stops two half-empty bottle sets — and sometimes drops a scent onto a cheaper per-gram bottle.
₹945.02
saved on three scents by rounding once per scent instead of once per product line · same 3,231 g of oil · CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026, stock re-checked 4 October 2026
Quick answers — read this first
How do I combine the two? Calculate per product, add per scent, round per scent once. Each product line keeps its own unit weight, load, tests, rejects and pour loss.

Why not one load for both? Melts commonly run higher. Here melts are 10%, candles 8%. A single 8% under-buys Mango Coconut by 255.0 g once allowances are in.

What does combining save? ₹945.02 on this three-scent plan — less overbuy, and Honeydew Melon crosses onto a 1 kg bottle at ₹3.40 a gram.

When should I buy? Test oil first (₹1,461.86 for all three), production after the burn and warmer tests. Splitting costs ₹654.74 more and lets you change the melt load.
The short answer
Answer: Work each line separately — candles at 8%, melts at 10% here — add per scent in grams, then round to the cheapest in-stock bottles once. Three scents: 3,231 g of oil, ₹13,549.92.
Why: Rounding each line separately leaves two remainders and can keep you on a dearer bottle tier. Adding first leaves one remainder and can cross into a cheaper per-gram pack.
Method: Per-product columns → tests, rejects, loss in each → sum per scent → round once → buy test oil now, production after the tests → one lot for both products.

Each bar is one scent's oil: the dark part for candles (8% of an illustrative 170 g), the light part for melts (10% of an illustrative 60 g), with tests, rejects and 5% pour loss already inside. Under each bar: the bottles you would buy rounding each product line separately, against rounding the scent's total once.
Straight answer
I want to launch both candles and wax melts using the same fragrances — how should I calculate combined fragrance-oil purchasing?
Calculate the oil for each product line on its own terms, add the two per scent in grams, then round each scent to bottles once. Each line keeps its own unit weight, load, tests, reject rate and pour loss: here an illustrative 170 g candle at 8% in CSI 468 and an illustrative 60 g melt pack at 10% in Chunks, two tests per line, 3% and 5% rejects, 5% loss. For 60 candles and 80 melts in Mango Coconut, that is 911.9 g + 543.1 g = 1,455.0 g, bought as 1 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g for ₹5,946.00. Across three scents the combined order is 3,231 g for ₹13,549.92, ₹945.02 less than rounding each product line separately — partly less overbuy, partly because combining moves Honeydew Melon onto a 1 kg bottle at ₹3.40 a gram. Buy test oil first (₹1,461.86), and the production oil after the burn and warmer tests fix the melt load.
One line: calculate per product, add per scent, round per scent once — and pour both products from the same bottle.
For three scents sold as both candles and melts, add each scent's candle oil and melt oil together before rounding to bottles. On this page's plan that is 3,231 g of oil, bought as one order per scent for ₹13,549.92 — ₹945.02 less than rounding the candle and melt lines separately. Start with Mango Coconut, whose 500 g and 1 kg are ₹3.96 a gram against ₹5.00 at 100 g.

The rule: two loads, one bottle

A scent is one purchase. It just gets poured into two products at two different loads.

Combined fragrance purchasing has exactly one trap and one opportunity. The trap is treating the two product lines as one: multiplying everything by a single load, or by a single allowance, when a melt and a candle are made differently. The opportunity is the opposite mistake avoided: rounding each line to bottles separately, so you end up with two half-empty bottle sets of the same oil, when one combined order would have landed on a cheaper per-gram pack.

So the method has three steps and they must stay in this order. First, calculate each product line's oil on its own terms — its own unit weight, its own load, its own tests, rejects and pour loss. Second, add the two lines together per scent, in grams. Third, round that per-scent total to real in-stock CSI bottles, once. Wax, containers and wicks are calculated alongside but are not part of the oil maths; if your two lines use different waxes, as on this page, the waxes are rounded separately too.

The CSI principle
Calculate per product. Add per scent. Round per scent, once.
Never multiply a combined unit count by a single load, and never round each product's oil to bottles before adding.

The plan this page works through

Three scents, chosen because each one has a real per-gram step in its bigger bottles: Mango Coconut (1 kg ₹3.96/g against ₹5.00 at 100 g), Honeydew Melon (₹3.40 against ₹4.35) and Verbena (₹4.72 against ₹5.90). Those are among the 24 oils in CSI's list where the 1 kg is at least 5% cheaper per gram than the 100 g; for most of the other oils the per-gram price is nearly flat above 100 g, and combining saves bottles rather than rupees.

The candles are poured in 200 ml Salsa Glass Jars (sold with a golden lug cap). 200 ml is the brim volume, not a fill weight, and CSI does not publish the fill; this page uses an illustrative 170 g candle — weigh a test pour and replace it. They are made in Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 at 8% (its page states up to 13%). The melts are Wax Melts Containers at an illustrative 60 g a pack, in Luxury Soy Wax Chunks at 10% (page: up to 13%). The volumes are the reader's plan, used as an example.

Per product line, per scent · tests: 2 per line · rejects: candles 3%, melts 5% · pour loss 5% on oil · all labelled assumptions
Step 1 and 2: oil per product line, then per scent
Scent Candles Candle oil Melts Melt oil Combined
Mango Coconut 60 × 170 g at 8% 911.9 g 80 × 60 g at 10% 543.1 g 1,455.0 g
Honeydew Melon 40 × 170 g at 8% 617.4 g 60 × 60 g at 10% 410.5 g 1,027.9 g
Verbena 30 × 170 g at 8% 470.2 g 40 × 60 g at 10% 277.9 g 748.1 g
All three 1,999.5 g 1,231.5 g 3,231.0 g

Each column is built the same way: (tests + saleable ÷ (1 − reject rate)) × oil per unit × 1.05. For Mango Coconut's candles that is (2 + 60 ÷ 0.97) × 13.6 g × 1.05 = 911.9 g; for its melts, (2 + 80 ÷ 0.95) × 6.0 g × 1.05 = 543.1 g. The candle and melt allowances are different because the products fail differently — a jar can crack or a wick can lean; a melt container can be underfilled or a top can pit — and they are both labelled examples.

The shortcut: one load for everything. "Sixty candles and eighty melts of Mango Coconut is 15,000 g of product; at 8% that is 1,200.0 g of oil." That number is wrong twice: the melts run at 10%, not 8%, and it carries no tests, rejects or pour loss. The correct figure is 1,455.0 g. Fix: keep a column per product line, each with its own load, and add only at the end. Combining three BOMs for one fragrance generalises this to any number of products.

Step 3: round once per scent — what it saves

Two bottle sets of the same oil is the most expensive way to own it.

Here is what happens when you round each product line to bottles separately and then buy both, against adding the grams first and rounding once. Every combination below is the cheapest in-stock CSI bottle mix that covers the need, computed, not guessed.

Total ₹14,494.94 ₹13,549.92 ₹945.02

Combining saves ₹945.02 across the three scents, and it saves it in two different ways. Part of it is simply less overbuy: two separate roundings each leave a remainder, and one rounding leaves one. The bigger part is tier-crossing. Honeydew Melon's candle line alone needs 617.4 g, which rounds to bottles at the 100 g and 50 g rate; combined with the melts it needs 1,027.9 g, which lands on a 1 kg bottle at ₹3.40 a gram. The same oil, a cheaper rate, only because the two lines were added first.

One lot for both lines
Buying one combined order per scent also means one lot of oil in both products. CSI publishes no lot numbers or batch-consistency data; if a customer buys a candle and a melt "in the same scent", the safest way to make them smell the same is to pour both from the same bottle. Write the order date on the bottle and keep a small retained sample.

When the melt load changes

The melt load is the least certain number in the plan, because only a warmer test can set it. CSI publishes no melt dosage. Chunks' page states a ceiling of 13%, so 8%, 10% and 12% are all inside it. Here is the combined order per scent at each, with the candle line held at 8%:

Melt-load sensitivity on the combined order

Two things follow. The combined order is sensitive to the melt load in steps, not smoothly — a load change that pushes a scent across a bottle boundary changes the order by a whole bottle. And it is one more reason to run the warmer test before you buy production oil: the test costs a few small bottles; guessing the load wrong costs a bottle per scent. The wax-melt post has the six-pack warmer test in full.

Buy now, buy after the tests

Per scent, the test stage is two candles and six melt packs (two each at 8%, 10% and 12%). That is a small amount of oil, bought in the smallest sensible bottles. The production order is the combined requirement minus what the test bottles leave over, rounded once.

1
Write two columns per scentOne for candles, one for melts. Each column has its own unit weight, load, tests, reject rate and pour loss. Never share a load between columns.
2
Buy the test oil per scentEnough for two candles and six melt packs at three loads, in 15 g / 50 g / 100 g bottles. Pour both products from the same bottle.
3
Run the candle burn test and the melt warmer testSame cure age for both. Score the candle against your control; choose the lowest melt load that passes in the warmer.
4
Recalculate the melt column at the chosen loadThe candle column stays at 8% unless its test failed. Add the two columns per scent.
5
Deduct the test leftovers and round onceSubtract what is left in the test bottles from the combined need, then choose the cheapest in-stock bottle mix that covers the rest.
6
Record the bottle and both products' batch datesSo a customer complaint about either product can be traced to one bottle.

Fragrance buy-now versus buy-after-test

Total ₹1,461.86 ₹12,742.80 ₹14,204.66 ₹13,549.92

Splitting costs ₹654.74 more than buying the combined order blind. That premium buys the right to change the melt load — and to drop a scent entirely if its tests fail — before you own a kilo of it. On a plan this size, one wrong scent would cost far more than the premium. Buying the full fragrance before a client approves weighs the same trade-off for a single large order.

The full priced order for both product lines

The oil is the point of this page, but the order is not complete without the rest. In this plan the two lines use different waxes, so the waxes are rounded separately; the shared-materials post shows the alternative of one wax for both. Jars carry a labelled 2% breakage allowance; wicks get 3 spares per scent; melt containers carry no breakage.

The salsa jar's 50- and 100-packs are ₹29.50 a jar — the same per-unit price as a melt container, which is a coincidence of the list, not a rule.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. Combining your two lines into one order per scent means you buy ₹945.02 less oil from us on this plan, and it may mean you never buy a second bottle of a scent that does well in candles but not in melts. That is the right outcome. And if your oil is one of the many CSI oils priced nearly flat above 100 g, combining saves very little money at all — its real benefit is one lot of oil and fewer half-empty bottles, not a discount. Bigger orders are quoted on WhatsApp; no volume discount figure is published.
The candle and the melt are two products. The bottle is one purchase. Keep the maths separate and the buying together.

Diwali is Sunday 8 November 2026, and matched candle-and-melt sets are a common festive pairing. Send us your scents, unit weights, loads and quantities for both lines on WhatsApp and we will check the combined oil order against CSI's listed bottles. Larger quantities are quoted; no discount figure is published.
Check my combined oil order

If you are deciding which materials beyond the oil can be shared — one wax, one dye, one scale — the shared-materials post goes line by line. If you are dropping candles for melts, what you can eliminate comes first. For collections, 15 SKUs without overbuying applies the add-then-round rule across sizes, and five scents on shared wax and jars keeps fragrance separate while sharing the rest. Beyond this cluster, one fragrance across three products and 1.3 kg against 500 g and 1 kg packs take the bottle-choice maths further, and requirements smaller than the smallest pack covers scents whose combined need is still tiny.

Using CSI 464 for both lines? Its maker states a maximum of 10%, so your melt column cannot go above 10% in it. Either keep melts at or below 10% in CSI 464, or move them to Chunks or CSI 468 (both 13%). The add-then-round rule for the oil is unchanged.
Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. A supplier's shopping list is easy to pad. Every line on this page is computed from a per-unit quantity and an allowance you can see, rounded to the cheapest in-stock pack combination we list, with the leftover shown — including where a smaller or cheaper option means a smaller order from us.

Frequently asked questions

How much fragrance oil do I need for candles and wax melts?
Work each product separately: unit weight × load, plus tests, rejects and pour loss. Then add the two per scent and round to bottles once. Melts and candles usually run at different loads.
Should wax melts and candles use the same fragrance load?
Not necessarily. Melt makers commonly run higher loads, but CSI publishes no melt dosage. Test, stay inside each wax's published ceiling (Chunks and CSI 468 13%, CSI 464 10%), and keep separate loads in your BOM.
Is it cheaper to buy fragrance oil in 1 kg?
For about a quarter of CSI's oils, yes — 24 oils are at least 5% cheaper per gram at 1 kg than 100 g. Most are nearly flat above 100 g. Always compare the actual bottle mix that covers your need.
Can I use the same fragrance oil bottle for candles and melts?
Yes, and it is the simplest way to make both smell alike. CSI publishes no lot data, so one bottle for both products is your consistency control.
How do I avoid buying too much fragrance oil for two product lines?
Add the grams before rounding. Rounding each line separately leaves two remainders in two bottle sets; rounding the total leaves one.
Can I make wax melts at 12% fragrance?
Only in a wax whose published ceiling allows it: Luxury Soy Wax Chunks and CSI 468 are stated at up to 13%; CSI 464 at up to 10%. Test whether you need 12% at all.

About this guide: Written by the CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA team. Product recommendations reflect the CSI range. The bill-of-materials method — per-unit quantities, allowance stack, rounding to real packs, buy-now versus buy-after-testing — applies to any supplier's materials.

Customer reviews: The six reviews at the top of this page are genuine, published Judge.me reviews left by CSI customers on the product pages named on each card — Eco Candle Wicks, Premium Candle Wicking Needle and Bamboo Wick Holder. They are general product reviews, not assessments of the guidance set out here. Names, star ratings, dates and products are as recorded by Judge.me and wording is unedited. "Verified buyer" appears only on the three reviews Judge.me recorded as verified — Monika Deep, Subhankar Roy and Sneha Tamang; the reviews from Ashwini, LJ and Lalitha Jagan are published but not recorded as verified, and carry no badge.

Non-price figures and assumptions: CSI convention: load is a share of finished weight (oil = W × L). CSI publishes no fill weight for the Salsa jar or the melt containers, no melt dosage, no throw data and no lot data. What CSI's product pages state (quoted, not CSI test results): Luxury Soy Wax Chunks — maximum fragrance load 13%, fragrance addition 80–90°C, pour 75–80°C in the spec table (the step list also shows 70–80°C), cure minimum 48 hours, ideally 1–2 weeks; Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 — fragrance load up to 10%, an 80–90°C melt/pour working range; Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 — melting point 50–53°C, pour 58–60°C, fragrance load up to 13%; Natural Soy Pearl and Soy Pillar Wax — no melt point, pour temperature or fragrance ceiling published. The 170 g fill, 60 g pack, loads, tests, reject rates, 5% pour loss, 2% breakage, three spare wicks per scent and unit volumes are labelled illustrations. Non-CSI lines are examples. Costs exclude labour, packaging, freight and GST. Diwali 2026 falls on 8 November.
