A mould replaces the jar, so you buy the jar's jobs separately: something to seal the wick hole, something to hold the wick straight, a wax that stands on its own, and a scale to find out how much the mould actually holds.

the seven extras most first bubble-candle lists leave out — sealer, wick holder, scale, thermometer, jug, stirrers, trimmer · CSI listed prices, October 2026
Quick answers — read this first
What do I need besides the big four? Mould sealer, a wick holder, a scale, a thermometer and a pouring jug — plus stirring sticks and a trimmer. From CSI that is ₹2,124.00. Dye and mica are optional.

Which wax? A pillar wax, because there is no jar. CSI's is Soy Pillar Wax, ₹600.00 a kilo at every size; no fragrance ceiling is published, so test 6–10%.

How much wax does the mould take? Not published. Weigh a water fill, multiply by a labelled 0.86–0.90, then correct it with the first weighed candle.

What does a first run cost? For an illustrative 396 g candle, eight to sell plus two tests: ₹9,528.82 in CSI items, mould included. See the shopping list.
The short answer
Answer: Add a mould sealer, a wick holder, a scale, a thermometer, a pouring jug, stirring sticks and a trimmer (₹2,124.00 from CSI), use Soy Pillar Wax rather than container wax, and weigh a water fill to find the mould's capacity.
Why: The mould replaces the jar, so it inherits the jar's jobs. The sealer stops the wick hole leaking, the holder keeps the wick central, and a pillar wax stands without support.
Method: Water fill × 0.86–0.90 → candle weight → split at 8% → +2 tests → ÷ (1 − 10% rejects) → +5% pour loss → round to packs → buy production oil and more wicks only after the tests pass.

Left: the four materials every bubble-candle tutorial names. Right: the four groups of items that let them work in a silicone mould. The bottom box lists what CSI does not publish — cavity weight, wick size, a fragrance ceiling for Soy Pillar Wax — which you settle by weighing and testing. The water fill shown is illustrative, not the Big Bubble XL's capacity.
Straight answer
I want to make a bubble candle — what raw materials do I need besides a silicone mould, wax, wick and fragrance?
You need the things a jar would otherwise do for you: a mould sealer for the wick hole, a holder to keep the wick central across the open base, and a wax that stands on its own — plus a scale, a thermometer and a pouring jug. From CSI that is Candle Mold Sealer (₹472.00), a Wick Centering Device pack (₹118.00), scale and thermometer (₹354.00 each), jug (₹531.00), stirring sticks and a trimmer — ₹2,124.00 in all. Use Soy Pillar Wax rather than a container soy wax, and test 6–10% fragrance because no ceiling is published for it. CSI publishes no cavity weight for the Big Bubble mould (₹2,124.00), so weigh a water fill and multiply by a labelled 0.86–0.90. For an illustrative 450 g water fill, eight saleable candles plus two tests need 4,165 g of wax and 362 g of oil, and the whole CSI list is ₹9,528.82.
One line: the mould replaces the jar — so buy the sealer, the wick holder and a pillar wax, and weigh water before you weigh wax.
Besides the mould, wax, wick and fragrance, a bubble candle needs a mould sealer for the wick hole (₹472.00), something to hold the wick upright across the opening (₹118.00 for five), a scale, a thermometer and a pouring jug. With Big Bubble Candle Mould (XL) at ₹2,124.00, the full CSI list for a first run of eight saleable candles plus two tests comes to ₹9,528.82.

The forgotten half of a bubble-candle shopping list

Every bubble-candle tutorial starts with four things. The first pour usually fails on the fifth.

A bubble candle is a moulded pillar: there is no jar to hold the wax, no tab sticker to fix the wick and no container to hide a bad surface. The mould does all of that work, so everything that helps the mould do it ends up on your shopping list. The wick has to come out through a pinhole at the top of the mould, which then has to be sealed, or wax runs out of it. The wick has to stay dead centre across an open base while the wax sets, which needs a holder. The wax has to be one that stands up on its own. And because nobody publishes how much wax a given silicone mould holds, the first thing you weigh is water.

The table below is the complete list, in the order you would reach for each item on pour day. The "essential" column is honest: some of these you can improvise from a kitchen, some you cannot. Prices are CSI's listed prices; non-CSI items sit in their own example lines further down and are never added to the CSI total.

Seven of those lines are essential or close to it, and together they cost ₹2,124.00 — on CSI's list prices, exactly what the Big Bubble mould itself costs. That is the number most first-time bubble-candle budgets miss. Most of it is a one-off: the scale, thermometer, jug and trimmer are tools that serve every candle you ever make, so if you already make jar candles you may own five of the seven. The sealer and the wick holder are the two items specific to moulds, and they are the two that cause the classic first-pour failures.

The CSI principle
A mould replaces the jar, so it inherits the jar's jobs: holding the wick, holding the wax and holding the shape.
The sealer, the wick holder and a free-standing wax are those jobs, bought separately.

Which wax: a pillar wax, because there is no jar

The second thing a bubble-candle list gets wrong is the wax. CSI's container soy waxes — Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464, Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 and Natural Soy Pearl Wax — are listed for candles poured into jars. A container wax only has to hold to the glass and burn to a full pool; it does not have to release cleanly from silicone, keep sharp bubble edges or stand unsupported on a shelf. Soy Pillar Wax is the CSI wax listed for pillars and designer candles, which is what a bubble candle is.

Soy Pillar Wax costs ₹300.00 for 500 g, ₹600.00 for 1 kg, ₹3,000.00 for 5 kg and ₹6,000.00 for 10 kg — a flat ₹600.00 a kilo at every size, so buying bigger buys convenience, not a lower rate. CSI's product page publishes no melt point, pour temperature, fragrance ceiling or shelf life for it. That shapes two lines of the BOM: the fragrance load is a test range of 6–10%, not a spec, with 8% as this page's working figure; and the pour temperature is something you log yourself on the first two candles and then hold constant.

The swap that looks economical: "I already have container soy wax, I'll use that." A soft container wax in a bubble mould commonly gives a candle that sticks, tears at the narrow necks between bubbles, or slumps in a warm room. You lose the mould time, the oil and the wick — the expensive parts. Fix: if you want to try your container wax anyway, make it one of the two test candles and pour the other in Soy Pillar Wax, same oil, same load, same day. Compare unmoulding, surface and a week on a warm shelf. The 100-sculptural-candle post runs the same test between Soy Pillar and paraffin pellets.

How much wax the mould takes: weigh water first

Nobody publishes how many grams a silicone mould holds. A kitchen scale and a jug of water tell you in two minutes.

CSI does not publish cavity weights for any of its moulds, including the Big Bubble XL, and we will not guess one. The method below gets you a number accurate enough to order against, and the first test pour corrects it. Water weighs about 1 g per ml. Solid wax is lighter than water by volume, so the same cavity holds fewer grams of wax: a labelled approximate factor of 0.86–0.90 g of wax per g of water is a reasonable starting point, varying with the wax, its temperature and how full you pour. It is not a CSI specification.

1
Seal the wick hole and stand the mould uprightPress a little mould sealer into the pinhole, open side up, exactly as you will on pour day. Support it so the sides cannot bulge — the same rubber band or clamp you will use for wax.
2
Tare the scale with the empty mould on itPut the sealed mould on the scale and zero it, so the reading is water only.
3
Fill with water to your intended pour lineNot to the brim. The pour line is where the base of your finished candle will sit. Read the scale: that is your water fill.
4
Convert with a labelled factorWater fill × 0.86–0.90 = the approximate weight of finished candle (wax plus oil). This page uses 0.88 as the midpoint, so a 450 g water fill becomes about 396 g of candle.
5
Split at your working loadOil = candle weight × load; wax = the rest. At 8%, a 396 g candle is 31.68 g of oil and 364.32 g of wax.
6
Dry the mould completelyWater left in the crevices between bubbles marks the surface of the first candle. Dry it inside and out, and let it air for an hour.
7
Correct it with the first wax pourWeigh the first test candle after unmoulding. That real weight replaces the factor for every order you place afterwards.
Illustrative water fills — NOT the Big Bubble XL's capacity · factor 0.86–0.90 is a labelled approximation · 8% working load
From a water fill to grams of wax and oil
If your water fill is Candle weight range (×0.86–0.90) Working figure (×0.88) Wax at 8% Oil at 8% Oil at 6% / 10%
300 g 258 g–270 g 264.0 g 242.9 g 21.12 g 15.8 g / 26.4 g
450 g 387 g–405 g 396.0 g 364.3 g 31.68 g 23.8 g / 39.6 g
600 g 516 g–540 g 528.0 g 485.8 g 42.24 g 31.7 g / 52.8 g

This page carries the middle row forward as its worked example — a 450 g water fill and a 396.0 g candle — because a number on paper teaches the method better than a letter. Replace it with your own water fill before you buy anything. The arithmetic scales in a straight line: double the water, double the wax and the oil.

Weigh the finished candle, not the jug
What leaves the jug is not what ends up in the candle: some stays on the jug walls, some in the drip that you scrape off the base. Weigh the unmoulded candle on the scale. That number, not the amount you melted, is the candle weight for every future BOM. The difference between the two is your real pour loss.

The bill of materials for one bubble candle

With a candle weight fixed, the per-candle BOM is short. The wick is the only line that is not in grams: it is a length, cut from a roll, and it has to be longer than the mould is tall so you can tie it off at the holder and trim it later. The mould height is not published, so this page uses an illustrative 10 cm plus a labelled 5 cm hold-over — 15 cm per candle. Measure your mould and replace it.

Big Bubble Candle Mould (XL) 1 pour example only: ₹2,124.00 spread over 50 pours ₹42.48
Material cost (wax + oil + wick) excludes mould, labour, packaging, freight, GST ₹378.73

Look at where the money is. In a jar candle the jar is often the largest single line. In a bubble candle there is no jar, and the wax is: ₹218.59 of wax against ₹158.40 of oil and ₹1.74 of wick. That is why the water-fill step matters more here than anywhere else in this series — a 10% error in the cavity weight is a 10% error in the most expensive line. The 50-pour mould life is an example only; CSI publishes no life figure for its silicone moulds, and it depends on how carefully you unmould.

The allowance stack for a first run of eight

Say the goal is eight saleable bubble candles — a first market stall, a gift run, or stock for a photograph. The series applies allowances in one fixed order, and each one only once. Bubble candles get a heavier reject allowance than jar candles because there are more ways to lose one: a torn bubble during unmoulding, an air pocket in a crevice, a wick that set off-centre. The 10% used here is a labelled example, not a measured rate.

Allowance stack · CSI series order · every percentage is a labelled working assumption
From eight candles to the quantities you order
Step Rule Wax Oil Wick lengths
Net 8 candles × per-candle quantity 2,914.6 g 253.4 g 8
1 · Test candles +2 whole candles (wick and load trials) 3,643.2 g 316.8 g 10
2 · Rejects production candles ÷ (1 − 10%) 3,967.0 g 345.0 g 11 whole pours
3 · Pour loss +5% on wax and oil only 4,165.4 g 362.2 g — (not applied to wick)
4 · Breakage glass only — a bubble candle has none — — —
5 · Round to packs cheapest in-stock CSI combination 4 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g = 4,500 g 3 × 100 g + 1 × 50 g + 1 × 15 g = 365 g 1 roll (406 lengths of 15 cm) · 14 needed incl. 3 spare

So the answer for this illustrative mould is 4,165.4 g of Soy Pillar Wax and 362.2 g of fragrance, which rounds to 4 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g of wax (₹2,700.00) and 3 × 100 g + 1 × 50 g + 1 × 15 g of oil (₹1,874.00). The leftover is 334.6 g of wax and 2.8 g of oil — about ₹215.10 of material that becomes the start of the next run. The reject rate is the allowance that moves the most: at 5% the wax need falls to 3,986.4 g; at 20% it climbs to 4,590.4 g. Your own reject count after two runs replaces it.

The shortcut: "eight candles at 396 g is 3,168 g of wax." That treats the candle weight as pure wax, forgets the oil inside it, forgets the two test candles and allows nothing for a torn bubble. It happens to land close to the right bag count on a small run, which is why it survives — and then it fails on the day a test candle tears, because there is no wax left for the re-pour. Fix: split the weight first, add tests as whole candles, apply rejects and loss once each, then round. The BOM-template post turns that order into a sheet you fill in for every new product.

The coaster line deserves a sentence. A bubble candle is free-standing, so in general practice it is burned on a heat-safe plate and sold with advice to do so — and some makers include the plate in the product. CSI does not list one, so it is an example line. If you include it, it belongs in your BOM per candle, exactly like a jar does for a container candle. The shared-materials post shows how a recurring per-unit item like that changes the stocking plan.

What to buy now, and what to buy after the test candles

Two test candles answer three questions: does the wick work, does the load work, and is the water-fill estimate right.

That means some lines should wait. The series rule is simple: buy production quantities of anything the test can still change only after the test passes. For a bubble candle the test can change the wick (it may be too thin or too thick for the diameter), the load (the scent may be too weak at 8% or sweat at 10%) and the candle weight (the water-fill factor is an approximation). The mould, sealer, holder and tools do not change, and neither does the wax choice if Soy Pillar unmoulds cleanly.

Wax and oil, split ₹1,078.00 ₹3,600.00
Wax and oil bought in one go ₹4,574.00

Splitting the order costs ₹104.00 more than buying everything at once, and all of it is on the oil: the test quantity is bought as 1 × 50 g + 2 × 15 g, and this oil's 15 g and 50 g bottles cost more per gram than its 100 g. The wax costs nothing extra to split, because Soy Pillar Wax is the same ₹600.00 a kilo at every size. ₹104.00 is the price of not owning 282 g of a scent before you know it works — cheap insurance against a whole bottle bought for a fragrance that failed. If the wick fails, the roll is the only line at risk and it still serves future moulds; try a second candidate such as Cotton Braided Wicks Ready Made (₹120.00 for 10, if their length clears your mould height) before buying anything bigger. Testing several wick sizes before production covers that in detail for jar candles.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. You do not need the ₹2,360.00 melter, a second mould or a 5 kg bag to make your first eight bubble candles. A 5 kg bag of Soy Pillar Wax makes 13.7 candles of this illustrative size — far more than a first run — and costs the same per kilo as the 1 kg bags, so there is no saving in buying it early. Buy the mould, the sealer, the holder, the wax and oil for the tests, and stop. Buy the rest once two candles have unmoulded cleanly and burned well.

What one saleable bubble candle costs in materials

Divide the run's consumables by the candles you can sell, not by the candles you poured. Wax and oil for this run, at the rates actually paid, are ₹4,574.00; the eight saleable candles carry that, plus the wick lengths. The tests and the rejects are real costs, and they belong to the candles that survive.

Consumables only · excludes mould, tools, labour, packaging, freight, GST
Cost per saleable candle for this run
Line Run cost Per saleable candle (÷ 8)
Wax actually bought ₹2,700.00 ₹337.50
Oil actually bought ₹1,874.00 ₹234.25
Wick, 14 × 15 cm at the roll rate ₹24.33 ₹3.04
Total ₹4,598.33 ₹574.79
Textbook material cost of one perfect candle ₹378.73

The gap between the textbook ₹378.73 and the per-saleable figure is the honest cost of a first run: two test candles, the reject allowance, the pour loss and the part of each bag you have not used yet. On the second run the leftover is already on your shelf and the test candles are not needed again, so the figure falls. For the same calculation across a whole collection of shapes, see 100 sculptural candles; if you are deciding whether to make wax melts from the same materials instead, the wax-melt post shows which of these lines disappear.

The mould is the purchase you notice. The sealer, the holder and the scale are the purchases that decide whether the first candle comes out whole.

Diwali falls on Sunday 8 November 2026. Bubble candles photograph well on festive tables and in gift hampers, and a first run poured this month leaves time to fix the wick before you scale. Send us your mould's water-fill weight, the scent and how many you want to sell on WhatsApp, and we will check the wax, oil and wick quantities against CSI's listed packs. Larger quantities are quoted; no volume discount figure is published.

This page answers one product brief. The siblings in this cluster each take a different brief and turn it into a list. For several mould shapes at production scale, the sculptural-candle post works out mould count from production rate. For melts, what you can drop from the list, combined fragrance purchasing and what candles and melts can share. For ranges, three sizes in one plan, fifteen SKUs without overbuying, five scents on shared wax and jars and standardising ten SKUs. For the jar-candle version of a single product brief, the frosted-glass lavender candle starts the cluster.

Making a different moulded shape? Everything on this page carries over: weigh a water fill, convert with a labelled factor, split at your load, stack the allowances and round to packs. CSI's other moulds include the Pillar Candle Mould (₹942.82), Ribbed Pillar Mould (from ₹1,060.82), Big Rose Mould (₹590.00) and Peony Mould (big size) (₹531.00). None has a published cavity weight. Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. A supplier's shopping list is easy to pad. Every line on this page is computed from a per-unit quantity and an allowance you can see, rounded to the cheapest in-stock pack combination we list, with the leftover shown — including where a smaller or cheaper option means a smaller order from us.

Oil prices are CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026, stock re-checked 4 October 2026. Soy-wax prices are CSI live pricing, re-checked 1 October 2026. Wick and jar prices were re-checked 4 October 2026. Mould, sealer, dye, mica and tool prices are CSI live pricing, pulled 24–25 September 2026; scale, thermometer and centering-device prices are Blog 760's, verified 10 September 2026. Grams, pack rounding, leftovers and ₹ totals are computed to two decimals so you can check them.

The 450 g water fill, the 0.86–0.90 wax factor, the 10 cm mould height, the 8% load, the two test candles, the 10% reject rate, the 5% pour loss and the 50-pour mould life are illustrative. They are labelled working assumptions, not standards, and every non-CSI line is an example you replace with your own quote. Frequently asked questions

What do you need to make a bubble candle at home?
A bubble silicone mould, a pillar wax, a wick you can cut to length, fragrance oil, mould sealer, a wick holder, a scale, a thermometer and a pouring jug. Dye and mica are optional; a heat-safe plate to burn it on is worth including.
Can I use soy container wax for bubble candles?
It is listed for jars, not moulds, and commonly sticks, tears or slumps in a free-standing shape. Use a pillar wax such as CSI's Soy Pillar Wax, or pour one test candle in each and compare.
How much wax does a bubble candle mould hold?
CSI does not publish cavity weights. Seal the mould, fill it with water to your pour line, weigh it, and multiply by about 0.86–0.90 for the candle weight. Correct the figure with your first weighed candle.
What wick is best for a bubble candle?
Wick size for a given mould is not published. Cut a length from a braided roll, longer than the mould is tall, and burn two test candles — try a second candidate if the pool or flame is wrong — before buying more wick.
Do silicone candle moulds need mould release spray?
Silicone moulds are generally used without one, and CSI does not list a release spray. Clean, dry moulds and a pillar wax are the usual approach; test your first unmoulding gently.
How much fragrance oil for a bubble candle?
Soy Pillar Wax has no published ceiling, so treat 6–10% of the candle weight as a test range. At 8%, an illustrative 396 g candle takes 31.7 g of oil.

Non-price figures and assumptions: CSI convention: fragrance load is a share of the finished candle weight (oil = W × L). CSI publishes no cavity weight, height or life for any silicone mould, no wick size for any mould, and no melt point, pour temperature, fragrance ceiling or shelf life for Soy Pillar Wax. The 450 g water fill, the 0.86–0.90 wax-per-water factor, the 10 cm height with 5 cm hold-over, the 8% load, two test candles, the 10% reject rate, the 5% pour loss and the 50-pour mould life are labelled illustrations. Non-CSI lines are example figures. Material costs exclude labour, packaging, freight and GST. Diwali 2026 falls on 8 November.
