One price, five line budgets, and real part umbers against four of them. The fifth stays blank, because CSI does not sell it.
₹239.60
materials and packaging budget at an illustrative 60% target · ₹166.73 actually spent on CSI lines · live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
How much can I spend on materials for a ₹599.00 candle? At an illustrative 60% target gross margin, ₹599.00 leaves ₹239.60 for everything below the line. Split it 30/25/15/5/25 across wax, fragrance, vessel, wick and finishing, and packaging and you get ₹71.88, ₹59.90, ₹35.94, ₹11.98 and ₹59.90. Those weights are a starting point, not a rule.

What does each budget actually buy at CSI prices? ₹71.88 of Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 at ₹507.40/kg is about 142 g of wax. ₹59.90 covers 11.2 g of oil at 8% of a 140 g pour at anything up to about ₹5.35 a gram, which Ylang Ylang Flower Fragrance Oil at ₹5.31/g fits. ₹35.94 buys a 200ml Salsa Glass Jar at ₹29.50 each in the 50-piece pack. ₹11.98 covers an Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) at ₹5.90 and a Candle Care Stickers Roll at ₹0.83.

Does the whole candle fit? Yes, with room left. The four CSI lines are budgeted at ₹179.70 and cost ₹166.73 — ₹71.04 of wax, ₹59.47 of fragrance, ₹29.50 for the vessel and ₹6.73 for the wick and sticker — leaving ₹12.97 unspent. Your packaging budget of ₹59.90 is separate and this page puts no figure in it.

What is the one number I should write down? ₹5.99 of room for every percentage point of target margin. Your ₹599.00 divided by a hundred. Moving your target from 60% to 55% adds ₹29.95 to the room, which at this split is ₹7.49 more on the fragrance line alone — enough to change which oils are available to you.
The short answer
₹239.60 of room at an illustrative 60% target: ₹599.00 less the margin you intend to keep. That single figure has to cover the wax, the fragrance, the vessel, the wick and finishing, and your own packaging.
Five line budgets, weighted on purpose: Wax ₹71.88, fragrance ₹59.90, vessel ₹35.94, wick and finishing ₹11.98, packaging ₹59.90. The vessel and wick are fixed per piece; the wax and fragrance scale with the size you pour.
Real products against four of them, ₹166.73 spent: ₹71.04 of Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464, ₹59.47 of Ylang Ylang Flower Fragrance Oil, ₹29.50 for a 200ml Salsa Glass Jar and ₹6.73 for the wick and a care sticker — ₹12.97 under budget.

What it shows: the ₹239.60 that your ₹599.00 leaves at an illustrative 60% target gross margin, carved into five line budgets on one rupee scale — wax ₹71.88, fragrance ₹59.90, vessel ₹35.94, wick and finishing ₹11.98, packaging ₹59.90. The outline on each row is the budget; the solid block is what the named CSI product actually costs at September 2026 pricing. Deliberately left out: the packaging row has no solid block, because boxes, labels and inserts are not CSI products and this page will not put a number on them. The 60% target and the split weights are illustrative starting points rather than recommendations, and the vessel is priced per piece without any claim about what it holds.
Straight answer
How should a ₹599.00 selling price be divided between wax, fragrance, jar and packaging?
Take the margin off first and allocate what is left, in that order, and the answer stops being a guess. Your ₹599.00 is your figure and is used exactly as given. At an illustrative 60% target gross margin it leaves ₹239.60, and every percentage point you move that target is worth ₹5.99. That ₹239.60 is not the wax budget; it is the budget for the wax, the fragrance, the vessel, the wick and finishing, and the packaging, which means the first decision is how to weight five lines rather than how much to spend on one. The split this page recommends as a starting point is 30% wax, 25% fragrance, 15% vessel, 5% wick and finishing, 25% packaging — ₹71.88, ₹59.90, ₹35.94, ₹11.98 and ₹59.90. The reasoning is that the vessel and the wick are fixed per-piece costs that do not change when you pour more wax, so they should be shopped hard and held to a small share, while wax and fragrance are the two lines that scale with the candle and therefore deserve the room. Fragrance takes the second-largest share despite being the smallest weight, because at 8% of wax weight it is 11.2 g against 140 g of wax and still costs nearly as much — and it is the part of the candle a customer actually experiences. Priced on live CSI stock in September 2026 the four lines CSI can supply come to ₹166.73 against a ₹179.70 allowance: ₹71.04 for 140 g of Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 at ₹507.40 a kilogram, ₹59.47 for 11.2 g of Ylang Ylang Flower Fragrance Oil at ₹5.31 a gram, ₹29.50 for a 200ml Salsa Glass Jar at the 50-piece rate and ₹6.73 for an Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) plus a Candle Care Stickers Roll. That leaves ₹12.97 unspent, which is the most useful number on the page: it is the room you have to pour heavier, buy a dearer fragrance, or absorb a price change without touching your ₹599.00. The packaging line stays blank throughout, because boxes, labels and inserts are not CSI products and no honest figure for them exists here.

Room first: what ₹599.00 leaves at your target

Allocate what is left, never what you hope is left.

The sequence matters more than the arithmetic. Price, then margin, then allocation. Your ₹599.00 is fixed — it is your figure, used exactly as given, and CSI supplies raw materials rather than setting retail prices. Your target gross margin is a decision only you can make. Room = price × (1 − target). At an illustrative 60% target that is ₹599.00 × 0.40 = ₹239.60, and that is the figure everything else on this page is carved out of.

The 60% is illustrative and is worked through the page only so the allocation can be followed end to end. It is not a recommendation and it is not a CSI figure. The portable version is ₹5.99 of room per percentage point, which is your price divided by a hundred: at a 50% target the room is ₹299.50, at 65% it is ₹209.65, and at 70% it is ₹179.70. Substitute your own target and every budget below scales with it.

One point of vocabulary that saves a lot of confusion later. The room is not the materials budget. It is the whole of what sits below the gross margin line, and packaging is in it — boxes, printed labels, inserts, ribbon. Makers who allocate materials first and discover packaging afterwards end up quietly eating the difference out of the margin they said they wanted. Reserve the packaging share before you open a product page, not after.

Priced above: your own ₹599.00 selling price, used exactly as given; it is an illustrative retail figure and is not a CSI price. The six target margins and the 30/25/15/5/25 split are illustrative starting weights chosen to make the method visible, not recommendations. The packaging column is a budget, not a cost — CSI does not sell boxes, labels or inserts and no figure for them appears anywhere on this page. Figures are displayed rounded to the paisa and computed unrounded.
The CSI principle
Budget the lines that do not scale before the lines that do.
A vessel costs ₹29.50 whether you pour 100 g or 200 g into it. The wax does not.

The split, and why it is weighted this way

Four arguments, one for each line, and none of them is about what looks fair.

Wax, 30% — ₹71.88. Wax is the largest weight in the candle and the cheapest thing in it per gram, and it is the line that decides how big the product feels in the hand. Giving it the largest share is not generosity; it is the only way to buy size. At Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464's ₹507.40 a kilogram, ₹71.88 is about 142 g of wax, which is a comfortable mid-size container candle rather than a votive.

Fragrance, 25% — ₹59.90. This is the line that looks wrong on a spreadsheet and right in a room. At 8% of wax weight, a 140 g pour carries 11.2 g of oil — one-twelfth the weight of the wax — and still takes nearly as much money, because fragrance oil is the most expensive material in the candle per gram by a wide margin. It is also the only line the customer experiences before they light anything. Starve it and you have made a cheaper candle that smells like one.

Vessel, 15% — ₹35.94. A vessel is a fixed per-piece cost. Pour twice as much wax into it and it still costs the same, which makes it the line where shopping hard pays every single time and where an expensive choice compounds across every unit you ever make. Hold it to a small share and buy it in the pack size you can actually turn over.

Wick and finishing, 5% — ₹11.98. The smallest share and the one nobody budgets for, which is why the wick so often gets left out of a cost sheet entirely. It belongs there, and so does anything you stick on the candle before it ships. Packaging, 25% — ₹59.90. Reserved, never filled here. CSI does not sell mailers, printed labels, inserts or ribbon, so there is no honest CSI figure for any of them, and a guess in this row would travel straight into your product decisions.

The reasoning · one row per line
Why each line gets the share it gets
Line Share Budget at a 60% target Does it scale with candle size? Where the money goes
Wax 30% ₹71.88 Yes, directly Size and burn time
Fragrance 25% ₹59.90 Yes, as a percentage of the wax Cold and hot throw — what the customer buys
Vessel 15% ₹35.94 No, fixed per piece Shelf presence and reuse value
Wick and finishing 5% ₹11.98 No, fixed per piece A clean burn and a safety sticker
Packaging 25% ₹59.90 No, fixed per order your figure — not a CSI cost
Total room 100% ₹239.60 — Everything below your target margin
Priced above: your ₹599.00 at an illustrative 60% target gross margin. The five shares are illustrative starting weights and are not recommendations; move them to suit the product you are making, provided they still sum to the room. The packaging row carries no figure because CSI does not sell packaging.
Splitting the price instead of the room. Taking 30% of ₹599.00 for wax gives ₹179.70 rather than ₹71.88 — a difference of ₹107.82 on one line, and if you do it across all five the whole margin disappears. The shares are shares of what is left after the margin, never of the price. Write the room down first and allocate only that.
Budgeting the vessel by what it looks like rather than what it costs each. Vessel pricing moves sharply with pack size. The 200ml Salsa Glass Jar is ₹40.12 each in the 5-piece pack at ₹200.60 and ₹29.50 each in the 50-piece pack at ₹1,475.00 — a genuine per-piece step of ₹10.62, which is 26.47% off the smaller pack's rate. Budget against the rate you will actually pay at the quantity you will actually buy, not the one on the first variant you clicked.

What each line budget buys at CSI rates

A budget with no part numbers under it is a wish.

Take the four budgets to the store. The fill reading this page carries: 140 g of wax at 8% of wax weight, which is 11.2 g of fragrance oil and 151.2 g in the jar. That is stated because a fragrance load is a percentage of wax weight, so a wax weight and a fill weight are different numbers and the budgets depend on which one you mean. The 140 g is chosen to sit just inside the ₹71.88 wax budget, which at Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464's ₹507.40 a kilogram stretches to about 142 g.

Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 is ₹507.40 for the one-kilogram pack, ₹507.40 a kilogram, and the same rate at the five- and ten-kilogram packs; the 500 g pack is ₹520.00 a kilogram, so the step down happens at the bottom of the ladder and not the top. The product page gives 80–90°C as the working range for melting and pouring, a stated maximum fragrance load of 10% of total wax weight, and a shelf life of 60 months in cool, dry storage.

The fragrance budget is where allocation becomes a shopping list. ₹59.90 has to cover 11.2 g, which is anything up to about ₹5.35 a gram. That is a real constraint and it is worth seeing as a list of names rather than a rate. The table below prices the same 11.2 g across seven live CSI oils, each at the pack size named, and says plainly which ones the budget reaches.

The ₹59.90 budget is your ₹599.00 at an illustrative 60% target margin and an illustrative 25% fragrance share. Where a wax grade's stated maximum and an oil page's stated range differ, the lower one governs.

Read the last column as carefully as the money. Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 states a maximum of 10% of total wax weight and Ylang Ylang Flower Fragrance Oil states up to 10% for soy wax, so on that pairing the two published limits land in the same place and 8% sits comfortably inside either. Where a wax ceiling and an oil range differ, the lower one governs, and where an oil page publishes nothing at all the wax grade's stated maximum is the only published limit. The Vanilla Bean Fragrance Oil page states 2.5% vanillin and notes potential discolouration, which is cosmetic rather than a performance problem but matters if your candle is white and your photographs are not.

MEASURE THE VESSEL, DO NOT CONVERT IT
The 200ml Salsa Glass Jar page gives a capacity in millilitres. Millilitres are volume and your budget is in grams, and soy is not water, so converting one into the other produces a figure nobody published. Fill the jar with water to the wax line you actually intend, weigh it, and multiply by about 0.9 for soy. That gives you your own wax weight, which is the number the ₹71.88 budget should be tested against. At ₹507.40 a kilogram, a 20 g error either way is ₹10.15 of wax plus ₹8.50 of fragrance at 8%.

The whole candle, checked against its budget

Five budgets, four invoices and one deliberately empty row.

Here is the candle the allocation produces, line by line, with each budget beside each actual cost. Everything in the CSI column is live stock in September 2026 and every figure is a rate you can check on the product page. The packaging row carries a budget and no cost, and it will stay that way — putting a typical number in it would be the single most damaging thing this page could do.

Zero wastage is assumed, which is an assumption and not a measurement — wax stays in the jug and a pour occasionally fails.

The candle fits, and the interesting figure is ₹12.97 — what is left across the four CSI lines once everything is bought. Most of it, ₹6.44, comes from the vessel, and ₹5.25 from the finishing line. Wax and fragrance came in almost exactly on budget, which is what you would expect from lines that were sized against their own rates in the first place. Headroom is not profit and it is not a saving; it is the slack that lets you survive a price change, pour a heavier candle, or move up a fragrance without reopening the pricing conversation.

Slack in a budget is not waste. It is the only thing standing between a price rise and a price change.

A quarter of the room is reserved for things this page cannot price.

₹59.90 of the ₹239.60 is set aside for packaging, and that budget is the only part of the allocation CSI cannot help you spend. Mailer boxes, printed labels, belly bands, tissue, ribbon, void fill and insert cards are not CSI products. Neither is the courier that carries the finished candle to your customer, nor the payment gateway or marketplace fee, nor the advertising that found the order. What is left of the packaging budget Yours to work out = your figure
Priced above: only the ₹59.90 packaging budget, derived from your ₹599.00 at an illustrative 60% target margin and an illustrative 25% share. Every other row is deliberately empty. If the list above totals more than ₹59.90, the allocation has to change somewhere — and it is better to learn that here than after you have poured four hundred candles.

There is one finishing item CSI does sell, and it is worth naming because it usually sits uncomfortably between the two budgets. A Candle Care Stickers Roll is ₹413.00 for the Pack of 500 (1 inch) roll, which is ₹0.83 a sticker, or ₹699.00 for the Pack of 1000 (1.5 inch) roll at ₹0.70 a sticker. This page puts it in the wick and finishing line rather than in packaging, because it goes on the candle rather than around it. Put it wherever you like; just put it somewhere, because a line nobody owns is a line nobody budgets.

Doing it on your own figures, step by step

Five steps, and the fourth is the one that keeps the sheet honest.
1
1. Write the price and the target, then the room₹599.00 × (1 − your target). At an illustrative 60% that is ₹239.60; at 50% it is ₹299.50; at 70% it is ₹179.70. Every percentage point is ₹5.99. Write the room at the top of the sheet and do not look at a product page until it is there.
2
2. Reserve packaging before anything elseTake your packaging share out first, not last, because it is the one you cannot shop for here and the one most likely to be discovered late. On the illustrative split that is ₹59.90, leaving ₹179.70 for the four lines a supplier can quote.
3
3. Budget the fixed lines, then the scaling linesVessel and wick do not change with candle size, so price them per piece at the pack quantity you will really buy — ₹29.50 for a 200ml Salsa Glass Jar at fifty, ₹5.90 for an Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1). Whatever is left after those goes to wax and fragrance, which is where the candle actually gets bigger or better.
4
4. Turn the wax budget into grams, then the load into rupeesDivide the wax budget by the rate per kilogram: ₹71.88 ÷ ₹507.40 is about 142 g. Take your load as a percentage of that wax weight — 8% of 140 g is 11.2 g — and divide the fragrance budget by those grams to see the rate you can afford, about ₹5.35 a gram here. Then shop by name rather than by rate.
5
5. Add it up, and leave the slack aloneFour lines at ₹166.73 against ₹179.70 leaves ₹12.97. Resist spending it immediately. Pour one batch, weigh what actually went in, measure your wastage, and then decide whether the slack becomes a heavier pour, a better fragrance or a buffer.

What to do with ₹12.97, and what not to do

Three honest options, one of which is to do nothing at all.

Pour more wax. At ₹507.40 a kilogram, and carrying its 8% of fragrance at ₹5.31 a gram, a gram of scented wax costs ₹0.93. The ₹12.97 of slack therefore buys about 14 g more wax and its oil — taking a 140 g pour to roughly 154 g, if the vessel takes it. Measure the vessel with water before you assume it does.

Move up a fragrance. The slack added to the fragrance line takes the available rate from about ₹5.35 a gram to about ₹6.51 a gram on an 11.2 g pour, which on the table above brings Bergamot Amber Fragrance Oil inside the budget and still leaves Vanilla Bean Fragrance Oil outside it. Whether that is worth more than the extra 14 g of scented wax the same slack buys is a judgement about your customer, not an arithmetic problem.

Or keep it. Every cost on this page is a September 2026 figure and the linked product pages are authoritative if anything changes. Slack is what absorbs a change without forcing you to reprice a ₹599.00 candle, and repricing is far more expensive than it looks once listings, photographs and a customer's memory are involved. A materials budget that lands exactly on its ceiling has no answer to a bad month.

Two things the headroom will not buy, and it is worth being blunt about both. The first is a quantity discount on the rate per kilogram. Run on the products this page names: Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 is ₹520.00 a kilogram in the 500 g pack and ₹507.40 in the one-, five- and ten-kilogram packs, so the only step is at the bottom of the ladder; Ylang Ylang Flower Fragrance Oil falls from ₹7.08 a gram at 15 gm through ₹5.90 at 100 gm to ₹5.31 at the largest pack. CSI publishes no quantity-discount ladder. The published spend-based codes are real and are a different thing: HAPPY5 at 5% over ₹5,000, BIZWIZ8 at 8% over ₹12,000 and YAY10 at 10% over ₹20,000 turn on the basket total, not the pack size. One review on the store asks for a discount on bulk buys; that is a fair request and the honest answer is to ask on WhatsApp for a large consignment rather than to assume a ladder exists.

The second is free delivery, which the store does not offer. Delivery is charged as published flat bands by weight, and the weight that bills is the stored packed weight of the variant. The five-kilogram pack of Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 stores 6.0 kg and the cheapest published band covering it in September 2026 is ₹630.00 on Standard Shipping, which across the 36 candles that pack pours at 140 g is ₹17.64 a candle. The one-kilogram Ylang Ylang Flower Fragrance Oil pack stores 2.0 kg at ₹180.00, which across 89 candles is ₹2.02 a candle. Together that is ₹19.66 a candle, or 8.20% of the whole ₹239.60 of room, and it belongs inside your wax and fragrance lines rather than beside them. A review on the store says the delivery charges are high enough to restrict how much the customer buys; that is fair comment, and the arithmetic answer is to consolidate orders rather than to leave the cost out of the budget.

Assuming every pack has a published delivery rate. Glass is heavy and the bands stop. The 50-piece pack of the 200ml Salsa Glass Jar carries a stored packed weight of 53.0 kg, and the store publishes no weight band above 50 kg, so no rate covers a consignment that size — ask on WhatsApp before you build the figure into a budget. The 5-piece pack stores 1.0 kg and does fall inside the published bands at ₹110.00 on Standard Shipping, September 2026. Check the stored weight before you cost the parcel, not after.
Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA sells four of the five lines budgeted on this page and the fifth is left blank on purpose. The page also says plainly that the slack it finds — ₹12.97 across the four CSI lines — is better kept than spent, that Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 is flat at ₹507.40 a kilogram from the one-kilogram pack upwards so there is no per-kilogram discount to chase, and that delivery on the packs used here adds ₹19.66 a candle that belongs inside the budgets rather than beside them. Two reviews on the store raise price and delivery charges directly; both are answered in the body rather than left out.

Every CSI price here is live stock in September 2026, taxes included, and the linked product pages are authoritative if anything changes. Your ₹599.00 selling price is your own figure, carried unrounded and never presented as a CSI price; it is an illustrative retail figure and CSI supplies raw materials rather than finished candles. The target gross margins of 40 to 70%, the 60% worked through the page and the 30/25/15/5/25 split are illustrative figures shown to make the method visible, not recommendations and not measured data. Fragrance load is a percentage of wax weight; the reading carried throughout is 140 g of wax plus 11.2 g of oil at 8%, 151.2 g poured. Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 states a maximum of 10% of total wax weight and Ylang Ylang Flower Fragrance Oil states up to 10% for soy wax; where a wax maximum and an oil range differ the lower one governs. The vessel is priced per piece and no fill weight is claimed for it — its page gives a capacity in millilitres, which is not converted to grams here. Zero wastage is assumed, which is an assumption rather than a measurement. Boxes, labels, inserts, ribbon, outbound courier, gateway and marketplace fees, advertising, labour, electricity and rent are not CSI products and are left blank throughout. Delivery figures are the published flat weight bands as at September 2026, applied to stored packed weights; no band covers a consignment above 50 kg.

Frequently asked questions

How much can I spend on materials if my candle sells for ₹599.00?
At an illustrative 60% target gross margin, ₹239.60 covers materials and packaging together, of which ₹179.70 is available for the four lines a supplier can quote once ₹59.90 is reserved for packaging. At a 50% target the room is ₹299.50; at 70% it is ₹179.70. Every percentage point of target margin is ₹5.99.
How should I split the budget between wax, fragrance and the jar?
As a starting point, 30% wax, 25% fragrance, 15% vessel, 5% wick and finishing and 25% packaging — ₹71.88, ₹59.90, ₹35.94, ₹11.98 and ₹59.90 on a ₹599.00 candle at a 60% target. The logic is that vessel and wick are fixed per piece while wax and fragrance scale with the candle, so the scaling lines get the room. These are illustrative weights, not rules.
Which fragrance oils fit a ₹59.90 per-candle budget?
On an 11.2 g pour, ₹59.90 reaches anything up to about ₹5.35 a gram. From the live list: Eucalyptus Spearmint Fragrance Oil at ₹3.07/g is ₹34.36, Roasted Coffee Fragrance Oil at ₹3.74/g is ₹41.87, Verbena Fragrance Oil at ₹4.72/g is ₹52.86 and Ylang Ylang Flower Fragrance Oil at ₹5.31/g is ₹59.47. Bergamot Amber Fragrance Oil at ₹5.44/g is ₹60.88, just over. Check the stated load range on each page — where it and the wax maximum differ, the lower governs.
Should packaging come out of the materials budget or the margin?
Out of the room, alongside materials, and reserved before you shop. On the illustrative split that is ₹59.90 of the ₹239.60. Taking packaging out of the margin afterwards is the most common way a 60% target quietly becomes something smaller. CSI does not sell boxes, labels or inserts, so no figure for them appears on this page — the row is yours.
Does the vessel price change if I buy more jars?
On this one, yes, and it is a per-piece step rather than a per-kilogram discount. The 200ml Salsa Glass Jar is ₹40.12 each in the 5-piece pack and ₹29.50 each in the 50-piece pack, a difference of ₹10.62 a candle. Wax and fragrance behave differently: Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 is flat at ₹507.40 a kilogram from the one-kilogram pack upwards. CSI publishes no quantity-discount ladder, and the HAPPY5, BIZWIZ8 and YAY10 codes are order-value discounts on the basket total.
Do these budgets include GST and delivery?
Store prices are inclusive of applicable taxes, as stated on CSI product pages, and GST invoicing is available on request, so the CSI figures here are what you pay. Delivery is charged separately as published flat weight bands — on the packs used here that is ₹17.64 a candle for the wax and ₹2.02 for the fragrance as at September 2026 — and it belongs inside your line budgets. How your own tax position affects any of this depends on your registration and is a question for your adviser rather than a supplier's blog.
