Cost per Candle · ₹1,499 Luxury
At ₹1,499 the question is no longer whether the candle can afford a good oil. It is which of five things the money goes to: the scent, the wax, the vessel, the lid or the box. The answer shapes the product more than any recipe decision.
₹744.00
product budget for a ₹1,499 candle after example fees, supplies, labour and breakage (₹155.00) and a ₹600.00 target · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
How much can a ₹1,499 candle cost to make? With example fees, shipping supplies, labour and breakage of ₹155.00 and ₹600.00 kept per candle, the product itself — fragrance, wax, wick, vessel, lid and outer packaging — can cost ₹744.00. That is 49.6% of the price.

How should I split it? Pick what the candle sells on. A scent-led 300 g candle with Delina Inspired puts 41% of the product cost into fragrance. A vessel-led one puts 34% into vessel and lid. A presentation-led one puts 26% into the outer pack.

Can I use the dearest perfume-inspired oils? Club De Nuit Intense Inspired at ₹24.06 a gram puts ₹577.44 of oil into a 300 g candle at 8% — 78% of the whole product budget on its own. The scent-led model caps oil at ₹13.62 a gram. Good Girl Inspired (₹17.85) does not fit it either.

What margin does ₹1,499 give? The scent-led build costs ₹702.35: a 53.1% gross margin on price and a 113.4% markup on cost, before the example ₹155.00 of fees, supplies, labour and breakage.
The short answer
Budget: ₹1,499 − example ₹155.00 − ₹600.00 kept = ₹744.00 for fragrance, wax, wick, vessel, lid and outer packaging together.
Three models: Scent-led ₹702.35 · Vessel-led ₹733.80 · Presentation-led ₹740.75 (300 g, 8%, CSI 468, wooden wick; vessel, lid and box as examples).
Oil ceiling: In the scent-led structure the oil can cost up to ₹13.62/g. Delina ₹11.95 fits; Good Girl ₹17.85 and Club De Nuit ₹24.06 do not. The ₹799 post covers the tier below.
Three ways to spend the product budget of a ₹1,499 candle (300 g) Scent-led ₹702.35 41% 26% 8% 11% 9% Vessel-led ₹733.80 23% 24% 8% 29% 9% Presentation-led ₹740.75 26% 24% 8% 10% 26% Fragrance Wax Wastage (4%) Wick Vessel Lid Outer packaging Solid = CSI-priced lines · outlined = example figures (vessel, lid, box, labels, ribbon) you replace with quotes
Each bar is one model's product cost split into shares. The solid segments are priced from CSI listings; the outlined ones are example figures for items CSI does not list at this tier (a luxury vessel, lid, rigid box, labels, ribbon). Replace those with your quotes and the shares will move — which is the point of drawing them.
Straight answer
I want to sell a luxury candle at ₹1,499 — how should I allocate product cost between fragrance, wax, jar, lid and outer packaging?
First find the product budget: ₹1,499 minus the per-candle costs that are not product (example fee, shipping supplies, labour and breakage, ₹155.00) minus what you need to keep (₹600.00 in our example) leaves ₹744.00. Then decide what the candle sells on, and give that line the largest share. In a 300 g candle at 8% with Coconut Soy CSI 468 and a wooden wick, a scent-led build with Delina Inspired spends ₹286.80 on oil (41% of product cost) and totals ₹702.35. A vessel-led build with Raat Ki Rani moves the money into an example ₹210.00 vessel and ₹40.00 lid (₹733.80). A presentation-led build with White Royal Oud puts an example rigid box, labels and ribbon first (₹740.75). All three leave a gross margin on price of between 50.6% and 53.1%. What does not work is doing all three at once: the dearest oils alone can take most of the budget. The vessel, lid and box figures are examples — replace them with quotes. The true-cost hub has the line-by-line method.
One line: decide what the customer pays ₹1,499 for, give that the biggest share, and cost the rest to what is left.
A scent-led ₹1,499 candle needs an oil that feels like a fine fragrance but still fits the budget. Delina (Parfums De Marly Inspired) at ₹1,195.00 for 100 g puts ₹286.80 of oil into a 300 g candle at 8%, leaving room for a good vessel and box. It starts at 50 g (₹598.00), which is the tester.

The product budget at ₹1,499

Luxury pricing does not remove the need to cost. It moves the question from ‘can I afford this oil?’ to ‘what am I buying with the money?’.

A ₹1,499 candle carries higher per-candle costs than a ₹499 one even before the product: payment fees scale with price, a heavier parcel needs more protection, the finishing takes longer, and a broken luxury candle costs more to replace. So the first step is the same as at every price point in this cluster — take those costs off, take off what you need to keep, and see what is left for the product itself.

₹1,499 · every line after the price is an EXAMPLE to replace
From price to product budget
Line ₹ per candle Share of price
Selling price ₹1,499.00 100.0%
Payment fee (example) − ₹35.00 2.3%
Shipping supplies (example) − ₹40.00 2.7%
Labour (example) − ₹50.00 3.3%
Breakage and returns allowance (example) − ₹30.00 2.0%
Amount kept per candle (example) − ₹600.00 40.0%
Product budget ₹744.00 49.6%

Kept at ₹600.00, the amount is 40.0% of the price — a larger rupee figure than a ₹499 candle can ever deliver, which is what makes the luxury tier attractive. Whether ₹600.00 is the right target depends on how many ₹1,499 candles you can sell in a month; luxury volumes are usually smaller. The ₹499 margin post shows how to turn fixed costs and volume into a per-candle target.

Why 300 g here
The candle on this page is an illustrative 300 g at an 8% load: 24 g of oil and 276 g of wax. Many luxury candles are larger than an everyday 200 g one, and a larger candle carries its oil cost over more burn time. If your vessel holds a different weight, weigh a full test pour and re-run every line — the fill weight of your vessel is not something we can publish.

Three allocation models

Every luxury candle spends its budget on the same five things — fragrance, wax (with wick), vessel, lid and outer packaging — but in very different proportions. The three models below keep the wax (CSI 468) and wick (Performance Wooden Wick) identical, so the differences come only from where the rest of the money goes. CSI-priced lines are listed prices; the vessel, lid, box, labels and ribbon are examples.

300 g · 8% · CSI 468 · Performance Wooden Wick (10-pack rate ₹59.00) · 4% wastage on wax + oil

Vessel ₹75.00 (11%) ₹210.00 (29%) ₹75.00 (10%)
Lid ₹20.00 (3%) ₹40.00 (5%) ₹25.00 (3%)
Outer packaging ₹63.50 (9%) ₹63.50 (9%) ₹193.00 (26%)
Product cost ₹702.35 ₹733.80 ₹740.75
Headroom under the budget ₹41.65 ₹10.20 ₹3.25
Gross margin on price (product only) 53.1% 51.0% 50.6%
Markup on product cost 113.4% 104.3% 102.4%

The scent-led model uses Delina Inspired and puts about two-fifths of the product cost into fragrance; the vessel and lid are modest. The vessel-led model uses Raat Ki Rani, one of the Indian florals in CSI's mid-upper price band, which frees about ₹118.80 for an example ₹210.00 vessel and ₹40.00 lid — the object the customer keeps after the candle is gone. The presentation-led model uses White Royal Oud and spends on the unboxing: an example rigid box with insert, two tissue sheets, premium labels, ribbon and card. All three fit the ₹744.00 budget with headroom. Gross margin here is (price − product cost) ÷ price; markup is (price − product cost) ÷ product cost.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. Two of these three models deliberately spend less on fragrance than they could, and fragrance is what we sell. That is the right call for some luxury candles. A buyer who keeps the vessel as a pot or a gift who is judged at the unboxing may notice those lines far more than the difference between a ₹7.00 and an ₹11.95 oil. If your customer is buying the scent, put the money in the oil. If not, do not let us talk you into it.

The fragrance line

At ₹1,499 almost any oil in the catalogue is affordable on its own. The question is what it leaves for everything else.

Holding the scent-led model's other lines fixed, the oil can cost up to ₹326.85 per candle, or ₹13.62 a gram at 24 g, before the budget runs out. That formula is simply the budget minus every non-oil line, divided by 1.04 for wastage and by the grams of oil. Here is where the premium and perfume-inspired oils land.

Club De Nuit Intense Inspired (₹2,406.00) ₹24.06 ₹577.44 77.6% no

Good Girl Inspired and Club De Nuit Intense Inspired are the two dearest oils in stock, at ₹17.85 and ₹24.06 a gram. In a 300 g candle at 8% they cost ₹428.40 and ₹577.44 — the second alone is 78% of the product budget. They can still make a ₹1,499 candle work if the candle is smaller, if the other lines are pared back, or if you accept keeping less. What they cannot do is sit inside a candle that is also vessel-led or presentation-led. For a 200 g version in a White Matte jar (₹70.80) with the scent-led model's lid and outer pack, the product cost with Club De Nuit becomes ₹738.04 and with Delina ₹536.53.

A dearer oil is not a measured upgrade. CSI has not published throw measurements for any oil, and price reflects the formula, not how it performs in your wax. Before you commit ₹400 of fragrance to every luxury candle, pour the shortlisted oils side by side in the same vessel, wax and wick, cure them the same way and compare them blind. The one you would pay ₹1,499 for may not be the dearest. The dosage-comparison post shows how to compare two oils on cost per finished candle once you have a test result.

The wax and wick lines

Wax is the one line that barely moves the luxury budget. Switching from CSI 468 to Coconut Wax at ₹1,026.60 a kilo raises the 300 g wax line from ₹179.40 to ₹283.34 — ₹103.94 a candle, or 14.0% of the product budget. If a coconut wax is part of how you describe the candle, that is an affordable story to tell at ₹1,499. Neither wax has a fragrance ceiling in this data, so test loads within a labelled 6–10% range and confirm the maximum with the product page or on WhatsApp.

Cotton Braided Wick ₹120.00 / 10 ₹12.00 ₹12.00 at every pack
Eco Candle Wick Thick C2 ₹188.80 / 20 ₹9.44

A wooden wick costs about five times a cotton one per candle, but in a ₹1,499 candle the difference is a small share of the budget, and many buyers associate the crackle with the luxury tier. That is a positioning point, not a performance claim; wick size for your vessel diameter is not published and has to be settled in a burn test, as it would for any wick.

Vessel, lid and outer pack

These are the lines this page cannot price for you, and they are often the largest in a luxury candle. CSI does not list a luxury-tier vessel, lids for the White Matte jar, rigid boxes, printed labels or ribbon. The figures in the models are examples only. Before you finalise a ₹1,499 product, get written quotes at the quantity you will actually order, because small runs of custom vessels and rigid boxes can cost far more per piece than large ones.

1
Decide what the candle sells onScent, vessel or presentation. Write it down. It decides which line gets the largest share.
2
Set the amount you keepFrom fixed costs and realistic luxury volume. ₹600.00 is our example.
3
Compute the product budgetPrice − fees, supplies, labour, breakage − amount kept. Ours is ₹744.00.
4
Get quotes for vessel, lid and box firstThey are the lines with the widest range and the longest lead times.
5
Price the wax and wickThe small, stable lines: CSI 468 or Coconut Wax, wooden or cotton wick.
6
Compute the oil cap and shortlistBudget minus every non-oil line, ÷ 1.04 ÷ grams of oil. Test the shortlisted oils blind.
7
Check the headroomLeave some. Luxury customers expect replacements for breakage in transit, and the breakage post shows how to load that into the price.
The CSI principle
At ₹1,499, allocation is the product.
Two candles at the same price, with the same wax and wick, can be completely different products depending on whether the money went into the scent, the vessel or the box. Decide that on purpose, and cost it before you design it.

Planning a luxury run

Here is the CSI raw-material list for 20 scent-led 300 g candles with 4% extra wax and oil: 499 g of Delina Inspired and 5,741 g of CSI 468. Five 100 g bottles of Delina cover the oil with a little over; the 1 kg (₹11,952.00) costs the same per gram and only makes sense once the scent has proven itself.

Excluding the scale, the CSI materials come to ₹582.00 a candle, before vessel, lid and box. Per-gram price breaks are rare on the listed catalogue — Delina, Good Girl and Club De Nuit are all flat from 50 g to 1 kg — so buying bigger buys stock security, not a lower rate. For a larger luxury run, or a corporate order at this tier, bulk pricing beyond the listed packs is quoted on WhatsApp; no discount figure is published.

Where this fits: the method is the same one used at lower prices in the ₹499 margin test, the ₹399 ceiling and the ₹799 budget, scaled up. A luxury candle is also where a load decision costs most — the load-reduction post and the 8% → 10% post price both directions. If the ₹1,499 candle will also be sold inside gift sets, the gift-set margin post shows how to split shared costs, and the reject-rate post explains why a failed luxury pour costs more than an everyday one.

A luxury candle is not a normal candle with more of everything. It is a normal budget spent deliberately on one thing.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. Two of the three models on this page spend less on fragrance than the budget allows, because for some luxury candles the vessel or the box is what the customer pays for. We sell the fragrance; we would still rather you spend where your customer will notice.

Oil and wax prices are CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026. Wick prices are from the 25 September pull; White Matte jar and tissue figures as listed. Budgets, shares, caps, margins and markups are plain arithmetic on those prices, shown to two decimals. CSI has not published throw measurements for any oil.

Fees, shipping supplies, labour, breakage allowance, the ₹600.00 kept, and every vessel, lid, box, label and ribbon figure are examples to replace with your own quotes. The 300 g weight is illustrative; wick sizing and fragrance ceilings for coconut waxes must be confirmed by test or with CSI on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cost breakdown of a luxury candle?
It depends on what the candle sells on. In our 300 g scent-led model, fragrance is 41% of product cost, wax 26%, vessel and lid 14%, outer pack 9%. A presentation-led model moves 26% into the outer pack.
How much does it cost to make a ₹1,500 candle?
Our three 300 g models cost ₹702.35, ₹733.80 and ₹740.75 in product, against a budget of ₹744.00 after example costs and ₹600.00 kept. Your vessel and box quotes will move these figures most.
Which fragrance oil is best for luxury candles?
There is no measured ‘best’ — CSI has not published throw data. Choose from oils your cap allows and test them blind. At ₹1,499 in a 300 g candle, oils up to about ₹13.62 a gram fit a scent-led build, including Delina Inspired, 9 PM Inspired and Hawas.
Is coconut wax worth it for a luxury candle?
On cost it is affordable at this tier: Coconut Wax adds ₹103.94 per 300 g candle over CSI 468. Whether it performs better in your vessel is a test question; no fragrance ceiling for either wax is quoted in this data.
What margin should a luxury candle have?
Measure it after every per-candle cost. Our scent-led build has a 53.1% gross margin on price (113.4% markup) on product cost alone, and keeps about ₹600 after example fees, supplies, labour and breakage.
Should luxury candles use wooden wicks?
They can. A Performance Wooden Wick is ₹59.00 each in a 10-pack or ₹41.30 in a 100-pack — a small share of a ₹1,499 budget. Sizing for your vessel is not published; confirm it in a burn test.
Allocate on purpose
Pick what your ₹1,499 candle sells on, give that the biggest share, and cost the rest to what is left.
