Change Control · Wax Supplier
A wax change leaves the oil's documents, the jar and the wick's identity untouched — and voids almost everything that happens once the wax melts. This page sorts all eighteen result lines, turns the repeats into one burn set and one storage set, and prices the test.
11 of 18
results to repeat after a wax-supplier change · 3 keep, 2 confirm, 2 new · Stage 1 kit ₹1,365.00 · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
Which results can I keep? The ones the wax cannot touch: the oil's MSDS and IFRA documents, the jar's dimensions and the wick's identity. Three of eighteen lines.

Which must I repeat? Everything that happens once the wax melts, sets or burns: tops and adhesion, base colour, cold and hot throw, time to full pool, pool depth, flame, soot, jar heat, consumption, full-life and storage. 11 lines, from two candle sets.

What is new? Two lines: your load against the new wax maker's stated maximum (Chunks up to 13%, CSI 464 up to 10%), and the new wax's process window. Both go on the specification.

How many candles and what does it cost? 10 candles for one SKU (3 + 3 burn, 2 + 2 storage), Stage 1 kit ₹1,365.00; a conditional Stage 2 with another wick adds ₹1,046.40. See the priced kit.
The short answer
Keep: Oil MSDS/IFRA, jar dimensions, wick identity — nothing they depend on has changed.
Repeat: 11 burn and storage lines from one 3 + 3 burn set and one 2 + 2 storage set. Confirm fill weight with three weighed pours first.
New: Load vs the new wax's stated ceiling; the new wax maker's process window. The range-level plan is in the change-control hub.

The eighteen result lines of a typical candle test file, sorted by what a change of wax supplier does to them. Dashed columns are the lines you keep or check quickly; the solid column is what must be repeated from new burn and storage sets. The line list and the grouping are this page's working ledger — add or remove lines to match your own file.
Straight answer
If I change only the wax supplier, which existing test results can I keep and which should I repeat?
Keep only what the wax cannot touch: the fragrance oil's MSDS and IFRA documents, the jar's dimensions and the identity of the wick you buy. Confirm two lines with a scale, not a burn: fill weight at your fill line and the net weight on your label, because a different wax can weigh differently in the same jar. Add two NEW lines: your fragrance load against the new wax maker's stated maximum, and the new wax's melt and pour instructions. Repeat everything else — tops and adhesion, base colour, cold and hot throw, time to full melt pool, pool depth, flame, soot, jar heat, consumption, full-life burn and storage stability — because wax is the fuel the wick burns and the medium that holds the oil. That is 11 of 18 lines, but they come from just two candle sets: three new-wax and three control candles to burn, and two of each to store unlit. For one SKU that is 10 candles and a Stage 1 kit of ₹1,365.00.
One line: the wax is under the pool, the flame, the heat, the throw and the shelf life — so those results go; the oil, jar and wick paperwork stays.
If your new wax supplier is CSI, the Stage 1 kit for one SKU is 2 × 500 g of Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, 10 White Matte jars and a 10-pack of Eco wicks — ₹1,365.00 — with a conditional Stage 2 at ₹1,046.40 only if your current wick struggles in the new wax.

The result ledger: eighteen lines, four words

Your test file is not one result. It is a list of results, and each one depends on something specific.

When a maker asks "do I need to retest?" after a wax change, the honest answer is "some of it" — and the useful answer names the lines. Every result in a candle test file depends on one or more physical things: the oil, the jar, the wick, the wax, the process. A result survives a change only if nothing it depends on has changed. The ledger below lists the eighteen result lines most small businesses keep, says what each one depends on, and gives it one of the four words used across this series: KEEP, CONFIRM, REPEAT or NEW.

Wax supplier changed · oil, jar and wick identical · copy this ledger into your change file
Result by result: keep, confirm, repeat or new
Result line Depends on Word Why
Oil MSDS and IFRA certificate The oil KEEP Documents describe the oil, not the wax
Jar dimensions, glass, base The jar KEEP Nothing about the jar has changed
Wick product identity and pack The wick KEEP Same wick bought from the same listing
Label text, net weight declaration Fill weight CONFIRM Same fill line can weigh differently in another wax
Fill weight at your fill line Wax + jar CONFIRM Weigh three new-wax pours against three old
Fragrance load vs wax ceiling The wax NEW Your load must sit inside the new wax maker's stated maximum
Melt, mix and pour temperatures The wax NEW Follow the new wax maker's instructions, not the old ones
Appearance after pour (tops, adhesion) Wax + process REPEAT Wax chemistry drives how the surface sets
Base colour (undyed candle) The wax REPEAT Compare side by side under the same light
Cold throw at cure checkpoints Wax + oil REPEAT How a wax holds and releases oil differs
Time to full melt pool Wax + wick REPEAT Melt behaviour is a wax property
Melt-pool depth and tunnelling Wax + wick REPEAT Pool viscosity and melt rate move with wax
Flame height, mushrooming, soot Wax + wick REPEAT The wick draws a different fuel
Jar-side feel / temperature reading Wax + wick + jar REPEAT Follows from flame and pool
Hot throw in your fixed room Wax + oil + wick REPEAT The pool releases oil differently
Consumption rate (g per hour) Wax + wick REPEAT Weigh before and after each cycle
Full-life burn and end-of-life Wax + wick + jar REPEAT Late-burn heat is where wax changes show
Storage: sweating, frosting, colour Wax + oil REPEAT Oil retention and crystallisation are wax-driven

Count them: 3 KEEP, 2 CONFIRM, 2 NEW and 11 REPEAT. That ratio is the real answer to the title. What you keep is the paperwork and the parts of the candle the wax never touches — the oil's documents, the jar, the identity of the wick. What you repeat is everything that happens once the wax is melted, poured, cured, stored or burned. It is not a comforting ratio, but it is a short test plan once you see that most REPEAT lines come out of the same burn set.

The CSI principle
A result survives a change only if nothing it depends on has changed.
Wax sits under the pool, the flame, the jar heat, the throw and the shelf life. So a wax change voids all of them — and leaves the oil, jar and wick paperwork untouched.

Why the wax reaches so many lines

It is tempting to think of wax as the neutral part of the candle — the carrier for the scent. In practice it is the fuel. The wick does not burn wax directly; it draws melted wax up by capillary action and burns the vapour. So anything that changes how the wax melts, how runny the melted pool is, and how the fragrance oil sits in it can change how the wick behaves, even when the wick itself is identical. That is why a correct wick can start tunnelling after a wax change, and why a faster full melt pool may point to a smaller wick.

Two container soy waxes can look and feel almost the same in the bag and still differ in how they melt, how the pool flows and how they hold oil. CSI does not publish melt points, congeal points, hardness or oil-retention figures for any of its waxes, and nor do many suppliers to small businesses — so the comparison has to be made in the jar, not on paper. The look-and-feel post covers why appearance in the bag is not evidence.

The wax maker's stated fragrance maximum Whether your current load is allowed at all NEW: load vs ceiling

The last row is the one that can stop a change before any candle is poured. On CSI's listings, Luxury Soy Wax Chunks are rated by the wax maker up to 13% fragrance load and Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 up to 10%. If your approved formula runs at 12% and your new wax is rated to 10%, you are not changing only the wax — you are changing the formula too, and the whole candle is a revised formulation. No ceiling is published in this data for Natural Soy Pearl Wax or Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468; ask the product page or CSI on WhatsApp before assuming one.

The KEEP that is not a KEEP. "The jar is the same, so jar heat is still valid." Jar heat is not a property of the jar alone. It is the result of the flame and pool inside it, which the new wax can change. The jar's dimensions are KEEP; how hot it gets is REPEAT. The same trap catches wick results: the wick's identity is KEEP, its behaviour in the new wax is REPEAT.

The two NEW lines you did not need before

NEW lines are the questions the old file never had to answer because the old wax answered them by default. After a wax change there are two. The first is the fragrance-load check: write down the new wax maker's stated maximum next to your formula's load. At 8% on a 200 g candle — 16 g of oil and 184 g of wax, with load measured as a share of the finished candle — you sit inside both CSI figures. If your old recipe card measured oil as a share of the wax (16 g into 184 g = 8.70% of wax, but 8% of the candle), say which convention you use before comparing to a ceiling.

The second is the process window. Melt, fragrance-addition and pour temperatures belong to the wax, not to your candle, and the new wax maker's instructions replace the old ones. The only temperature CSI has on record is its own earlier guidance for CSI 464: 80–90°C for melting and pouring — confirm on the product page. For every other wax, follow the wax maker's instructions. Do not carry the old wax's temperatures across by habit; a surface fault in the first pour is as likely to be a process mismatch as a wax problem, which is the whole subject of the rough-tops post.

Record the NEW lines on the specification, not the test sheet
The load-versus-ceiling check and the process window are not test results; they are specification entries. Put them on the SKU's approved specification so the next person who pours knows them. The approved-specification post has a template with a line for each.

The CONFIRM lines: three weighed pours

Two lines are CONFIRM rather than REPEAT because they do not need a burn — only a scale. Different waxes can weigh differently at the same fill line in the same jar, because a wax's density and the way it shrinks as it sets vary. The CONFIRM check is quick: pour three jars of the new wax to your usual fill line, let them set fully, weigh them, and compare with three old-wax jars poured the same way. CSI publishes no density figure for its waxes and does not publish a fill weight for the White Matte Glass Jar, so this is your measurement, not ours.

Average If the label weight would no longer be true, move the fill line or change the label

If the new wax lands lighter at the same line, your label's net weight may no longer be honest, and moving the fill line changes the candle's height of wax — which is a burn-test variable. That is why the fill-weight CONFIRM happens before the burn set is poured: settle the fill weight first, then pour the burn candles at that weight.

The REPEAT set: one burn set, one storage set

Eleven REPEAT lines sound like eleven tests. They are two sets of candles.

Every burn line — time to full pool, depth, tunnelling, flame, mushrooming, soot, jar heat, hot throw, consumption and full-life — comes out of the same burn set: three candles in the new wax and three controls in the old wax, poured on the same day with the same oil, jar and wick. Every storage line — sweating, frosting, colour, cold throw over time, surface after setting — comes out of a storage set of two new and two controls that are never lit. That is 10 candles for one SKU. The three-per-variant burn set and two-per-variant storage set are working practice, not a standard.

1
Confirm the fill weight firstThree weighed pours per wax, as above. Fix the fill weight you will use for the burn and storage sets.
2
Pour both sets on one day5 candles in the new wax, 5 in the old wax, all with the same oil at the same load, the same wick, centred the same way. Label the base: C or N, set (burn or storage), number, date.
3
Cure side by sideCheck tops and adhesion at 48 hours, cold throw at 7 days, and hold the storage set to 14 days or longer — labelled example checkpoints. Keep both sets in the same place.
4
Burn in cycles of about 3–4 hoursA commonly used cycle, with full cool-down between. Weigh each candle before and after; record time to full pool, pool depth, flame height, mushrooming, soot and jar-side feel. Hot throw scored in the same room each time.
5
Take one new and one control to the endAt least one candle of each goes to the end of usable wax. End-of-life heat and how much wax is left behind are where a wax change often shows latest.
6
Only if the wick struggles: Stage 2If the new-wax candles tunnel, drown or run too hot compared with the controls, pour 3 more new-wax candles with the other wick you are considering and repeat the burn lines. That is a wick change on top of the wax change — log it as such.

Consumption is worth computing properly because it is the one burn line that is a hard number. Weigh the candle before and after each cycle and divide the loss by the hours burned: 12 g lost in 4 hours is 3 g per hour. Compare new with control cycle by cycle. A new wax that burns noticeably faster in the same jar with the same wick is telling you the wick is drawing more fuel — which is usually visible on the flame and heat lines too.

The priced kit, stage by stage

The worked example is one SKU: a 200 g candle in a White Matte Glass Jar, Blue Ocean Fragrance Oil at 8% (16 g per candle), an Eco Thin C1 wick, and the new wax Luxury Soy Wax Chunks. The controls use your current approved wax, so the kit buys only new wax for the 5 new candles, plus jars and wicks for all 10. The oil comes from your own stock: 13 candles × 16 g = 208 g of Blue Ocean, worth ₹1,029.60 at its 100 g rate of ₹4.95/g. A 5% pour-loss allowance on the wax is a labelled working assumption.

Eco Candle Wicks Thick C2 (the other listed Eco size) 3 wicks 1 × 10 ₹94.40

Stage 1 is ₹1,365.00; both stages together are ₹2,411.40. Buying in stages matters more than the rupees: if Stage 1 passes, you never open Stage 2. The wax is priced from the 500 g bag because Chunks are flat per kilo (₹598.00 a kilo at 500 g, ₹599.00 at 1 kg and 5 kg), so small bags carry no penalty. The Thick C2 wick is listed here only because it is the other Eco size CSI sells — nothing in CSI's data says it is the right size for your jar in the new wax, which is exactly what Stage 2 tests. Wick size per jar diameter is not published.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. If your current wax is performing and the only reason to change is a small saving, the cheapest line on this page is "do not change". A wax change voids eleven results and creates two new ones; the kit is modest, but the burn time and the risk of a quiet drift on a bestseller are not. Change wax when the old one is unavailable, failing, or clearly too expensive — and work out the payback before you start.
Diwali is on 8 November 2026. A wax change needs its storage set to reach at least the 14-day checkpoint before release, so a change started in mid-October is tight for a festive run. If you need to change wax before the season, message us with your SKU list and we will help you plan the bags for the burn and storage sets. Larger quantities are quoted on WhatsApp; no volume discount figure is published.

Decision rule and release

When both sets are scored, apply one rule. Pass if no new-wax candle is worse than the control on any safety line — flame, soot, jar heat, end-of-life — and the performance and storage lines are the same or better. Pass with change if the safety lines are fine but one performance line (usually hot throw) is weaker: that becomes a formula adjustment, which is a separate change with its own test. Escalate to Stage 2 if the wick is clearly struggling. Fail if any safety line is worse. CSI publishes no numeric flame-height or jar-temperature limit; acceptance means no worse than your approved control and within your jar supplier's guidance and the recognised fire-safety standard you work to (ASTM F2417 is a commonly cited one).

Once one SKU is released, the question becomes the rest of the range. A wax sits under every SKU that uses it, so the change-control hub brackets the range: full burn and storage sets on the SKUs most likely to fail, one-to-one confirmation on the rest. If you run many fragrances in one wax, the 20-fragrance post covers choosing the brackets from the fragrance side, and the 10-fragrance discontinued-wax post works the same problem when the old wax has gone entirely.

Keep the paperwork. Repeat the candle.
— CandleMakingSuppliesIndia

One final practical point: keep a sealed bag of the old wax if you can. The best control for any future complaint about this SKU is a candle poured from the wax it used to be made with. Once the old wax is used up, a retained finished candle from the last old-wax batch is the fallback reference — label it and keep it with the release record. If you change the fragrance supplier next, the fragrance-supplier post shows which of today's wax results you can carry across; if the jar changes, the jar post does the same.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. We sell wax, so it would suit us to tell you a wax change is minor. It is not: this page lists eleven results a new wax voids, including when the new wax is ours, and recommends not changing when the saving is small.

Wax and oil prices are CSI live pricing pulled on 24 September 2026; jar and wick prices were verified for Blog 760 on 10 September 2026, with wick packs rechecked on 25 September 2026. Candle counts, grams and kit totals are plain arithmetic, shown so you can check them.

The eighteen-line ledger, the three-plus-three burn set, the two-plus-two storage set, burn cycles and checkpoints are working practices, not a standard. CSI publishes no melt points, hardness, oil-retention or burn-test data for its waxes, and no wick-size charts. For MSDS or IFRA documents, bulk quotes or help planning a retest, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to redo burn tests if I change soy wax supplier?
Yes. Every burn line — melt pool, flame, soot, jar heat, hot throw, consumption and full-life — depends on the wax, so all of them are repeated against a control candle in the old wax. The wax-supplier hub covers the same question from the burn-test side.
Can I keep my old wick size when I switch wax brands?
Keep the wick's identity, but not its results. Test your current wick in the new wax first; only if it tunnels, drowns or runs hotter than the control do you move to a second stage with another wick.
Does a new wax change fragrance throw?
It can: how a wax holds and releases fragrance oil is a wax property, so cold and hot throw are both REPEAT lines. CSI publishes no throw data for its waxes — score it against a control in a fixed room.
Is my fragrance load still valid in a new wax?
Only if it sits inside the new wax maker's stated maximum. On CSI's listings, Luxury Soy Wax Chunks are rated up to 13% and CSI 464 up to 10%; no ceiling is published here for Soy Pearl or CSI 468.
How many test candles for a wax change?
For one SKU, 10: three new-wax and three control candles to burn, two of each to store unlit. Add 3 if your current wick struggles and you test another.
Do I need to check fill weight when changing wax?
Yes, with three weighed pours per wax. A different wax can weigh differently at the same fill line, and your label's net weight must stay true.
Keep the paperwork, repeat the candle
Sort your test file into four words before you pour a single test candle.

The 200 g candle, 8% load, 5% pour-loss allowance, three-plus-three burn set, two-plus-two storage set, 3–4 hour burn cycles and 48-hour / 7-day / 14-day checkpoints are labelled working assumptions. The White Matte Glass Jar's fill weight is not published. CSI publishes no melt points, congeal points, hardness, oil retention, density, burn-test results or wick-size charts, and no numeric flame-height or jar-temperature limit. CSI 464 80–90°C is CSI's earlier guidance — confirm on the product page. Diwali 2026 falls on 8 November. Prices and availability change — the linked product pages are always authoritative.
