A mould range is several products that happen to share a wax. Each design has its own fill, its own trim, its own failure rate and sometimes its own scent. Work each one out separately, then combine only what is really shared.

Soy Pillar Wax for four designs, 400 good candles (design-by-design allowances, 3% pour loss, 8% labelled test load where scented) · rounded once to 6 × 10 kg + 4 × 1 kg · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
How do I calculate wax for several mould designs at once? Give each design its own row: good quantity, weighed fill, trim, failure rate, test pours and load. Work out poured weight × pours × (1 + pour loss) for each row, split oil and wax per row, then add the wax rows into one order. Keep the oil rows grouped by scent.

Why not one average weight for everything? Because the designs differ in more than weight. A delicate flower fails more often than a plain pillar, and a detailed shape loses more in trimming. A multi-cavity mould pours seven units a cycle. An average hides all of that.

What does this example need? Four designs, 400 good candles: 63,944.25 g of Soy Pillar Wax, 3,108.13 g of Lavender (two designs) and 1,470.43 g of Sandalwood (one design). One design is unscented. Fill weights are illustrative.

Does combining save money? On wax, a little. Rounding once gives 6 × 10 kg + 4 × 1 kg (₹38,400.00), and rounding each design separately gives ₹39,000.00. The bigger gain is simpler buying, one delivery and one stock count. Compared below.
The short answer
Method: Design sheet → per-design pours (÷ (1 − failure) + tests) → × (fill + trim) × (1 + pour loss) → split oil/wax by that design's load → sum wax once → sum oil by scent → round.
This example: Pillar 120 × 250 g, Ribbed 80 × 210 g, Daisy 60 × 170 g unscented, Flowers 140 × 40 g from a 7-flower mould = 62,600 g finished, 63,944.25 g of wax to order.
Moulds: At a labelled 2 cycles per mould per day over 10 days: 18 moulds in all (₹19,215.12). A simple weight table is enough when the designs share one failure rate and scent.
Four mould designs, calculated one by one, bought as one wax order A · Pillar 120 good × 250 g + 5 g trim 1% fail · Lavender 8% wax 29,721.47 g B · Ribbed 80 good × 210 g + 5 g trim 2% fail · Sandalwood 8% wax 16,909.92 g C · Daisy 60 good × 170 g + 4 g trim 3% fail · unscented wax 11,290.86 g D · Flowers 140 good × 40 g + 1 g trim 5% fail · Lavender 8% wax 6,022 g One Soy Pillar Wax order: 63,944.25 g rounded once → 6 × 10 kg + 4 × 1 kg Lavender (A + D): 3,108.13 g · kept separate Sandalwood (B): 1,470.43 g · kept separate
Each design is calculated with its own fill, trim, failure rate and load. Only then are the wax figures added into one Soy Pillar Wax order. The oil stays grouped by scent: Lavender for the pillar and the flowers, Sandalwood for the ribbed pillar. The daisy is unscented and adds wax only. All fills and rates are illustrative or labelled working assumptions.
Straight answer
I'm producing several different mould candle designs. How do I calculate the combined wax requirement when every mould has a different fill weight?
Do not combine first. Calculate each design on its own, then add. Each design gets a row with its good quantity, weighed finished fill, trim per unit, failure rate, test pours and fragrance load. The fills are not published for any CSI mould, so weigh them. For each row: pours = good ÷ (1 − failure) + tests. Scented weight = pours × (fill + trim) × (1 + pour loss). Oil = that × load, and wax = the rest. In our example, a plain pillar (120 × 250 g), a ribbed pillar (80 × 210 g), an unscented daisy (60 × 170 g) and small flowers from a seven-cavity mould (140 × 40 g) give 63,944.25 g of wax across 424 poured units. All the fills and rates are illustrative or labelled assumptions. Then add the wax rows into one purchase, since all four pour from Soy Pillar Wax. Rounding once gives 6 × 10 kg + 4 × 1 kg for ₹38,400.00. Rounding per design gives ₹39,000.00. Keep oil grouped by scent: 3,108.13 g of Lavender for the two lavender designs and 1,470.43 g of Sandalwood for the ribbed pillar. The mould count comes from cycles, not grams. A seven-cavity mould pours seven flowers a cycle, and a pillar mould pours one.
One line: calculate per design, add the wax once, keep the oils by scent.
All four designs pour from one wax, so the whole range is one Soy Pillar Wax order: 6 × 10 kg + 4 × 1 kg for ₹38,400.00. At a flat ₹0.60 a gram in every bag, you can round with whatever mix of 10 kg, 5 kg and 1 kg bags suits your store room.

The design sheet

A mould range is not one candle in four shapes. It is four products that happen to use the same wax.

A simple weight table, quantity × weight per shape, works when every design behaves the same way. I Need 100 Silicone-Mould Candles but Each Finished Shape Has a Different Weight — How Do I Calculate Wax Requirements Accurately Before Buying Bulk Wax? covers that case. It stops being enough when the designs differ in how they are made. A plain pillar releases cleanly almost every time, while a seven-flower mould has thin petals that tear. A ribbed pillar needs its seam shaved, and a small flower needs almost no trimming. Some designs are scented and some are not. Each of those differences changes that design's wax, so each one needs its own row. Here is the example range. Every fill and rate is illustrative or a labelled assumption. CSI publishes no mould fill weights.

Illustrative fills and working assumptions — replace every figure with your own weighed and logged values
Design sheet for a four-design mould range
Design (mould) Cavities Good units Finished fill Trim per unit Failed releases Test units Scent
A · Plain pillar (tall) 1 120 250 g 5 g 1% 1 Lavender 8%
B · Ribbed pillar 5 × 15 cm 1 80 210 g 5 g 2% 1 Sandalwood 8%
C · Daisy pillar 1 60 170 g 4 g 3% 1 Unscented
D · Flowers (7-flower mould) 7 140 40 g 1 g 5% 7 Lavender 8%

Three columns do most of the work. Cavities changes how many units each pour makes, and so how many moulds and days you need, but not the grams. The seven-flower mould's seven cavities are in its name. It is the only mould here with more than one. Trim is added to every unit poured, because you trim before you know which units pass. Failed releases is a rate per design, because a delicate shape fails more often than a plain one. The flowers' test allowance is a whole cycle of seven, because the first test pour of a multi-cavity mould fills every cavity.

Weigh a full cycle for multi-cavity moulds
The seven cavities of a flower mould are seven different shapes with seven different weights. Weigh a whole finished cycle, all seven flowers trimmed, and divide by seven for the average. Here that is 280 g ÷ 7 = 40 g, an illustrative figure. Plan by cycles and flowers, not by one favourite cavity × seven.

Calculating each design

Each row goes through the same four steps: good units ÷ (1 − failure rate), round up, add tests; × (fill + trim); × 1.03 for pour loss; then split at that design's load. A 3% pour loss applies across the range, since it is jug and melter residue, not design-specific. The 8% load is a labelled test value. CSI publishes no fragrance ceiling for Soy Pillar Wax.

Per-design calculation · 3% pour loss · 8% labelled test load where scented · load = share of finished weight
Wax and oil, design by design
Design Units poured Scented weight Total Oil Wax
A · Plain pillar (tall) 120 ÷ 0.99 → 122 + 1 = 123 123 × 255 g × 1.03 32,305.95 g 2,584.48 g 29,721.47 g
B · Ribbed pillar 5 × 15 cm 80 ÷ 0.98 → 82 + 1 = 83 83 × 215 g × 1.03 18,380.35 g 1,470.43 g 16,909.92 g
C · Daisy pillar 60 ÷ 0.97 → 62 + 1 = 63 63 × 174 g × 1.03 11,290.86 g — 11,290.86 g
D · Flowers (7-flower mould) 140 ÷ 0.95 → 148 + 7 = 155 155 × 41 g × 1.03 6,545.65 g 523.65 g 6,022 g
Total 424 units poured 68,522.81 g 4,578.56 g 63,944.25 g

The unscented daisy puts its whole weight into wax. The scented designs put 92% into wax and 8% into oil. That is why the wax column cannot be found by multiplying the finished weight by anything. The flowers show the effect of a design-specific failure rate: 140 good flowers at 5% failure need 148 production flowers, and the first test cycle adds 7. A blanket "5% on everything" would over-plan the pillars and could under-plan the flowers. Here, a single blanket figure of 156.50 g average × 400 × 1.05 × 0.92 gives 60,471.60 g of wax, against 63,944.25 g design by design. The blanket figure is 3,472.65 g short, mostly because it ignores trim and the flowers' higher failure rate, and it cannot show you which design is short.

Combining before calculating. The tempting shortcut is to add up the good units, take an average weight and apply one allowance. That loses the three things that make a mould range different from a jar range: per-design failure rates, per-design trim and per-design scent. Sometimes the totals land close by luck. Here the blanket figure is several kilos short, and when the run stops you will not know which design caused it, because the sheet never had a row for it. Calculate by design first. Add second.
Add the wax because it is shared. Keep the oils apart because they are not.

Combining: what to add together and what to keep apart

Once every row is calculated, sort the materials by what is really interchangeable. Wax is shared. All four designs pour from Soy Pillar Wax, so the four wax figures become one order. Oil is shared only within a scent. The pillar and the flowers are both lavender, so their oil is one Lavender order, and the ribbed pillar's Sandalwood is separate. Wicks are shared only within a size, and wick size per design is not published, so burn-test each design and group the wicks by the size each one passes on.

Soy Pillar Wax is ₹0.60 a gram in every bag, so rounding costs only the grams rounded up · CSI live pricing 24 September 2026
Rounding the wax four times vs once
Wax line Needed Bags Bought Cost
A · Plain pillar (tall) 29,721.47 g 3 × 10 kg 30,000 g ₹18,000.00
B · Ribbed pillar 5 × 15 cm 16,909.92 g 1 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg + 2 × 1 kg 17,000 g ₹10,200.00
C · Daisy pillar 11,290.86 g 1 × 10 kg + 1 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g 11,500 g ₹6,900.00
D · Flowers (7-flower mould) 6,022 g 1 × 5 kg + 1 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g 6,500 g ₹3,900.00
Rounded four times 63,944.25 g — 65,000 g ₹39,000.00
Rounded once (combined) 63,944.25 g 6 × 10 kg + 4 × 1 kg 64,000 g ₹38,400.00

Rounding once saves ₹600.00 and 1,000 g of wax you would otherwise carry. That is modest, because Soy Pillar Wax is priced flat and sold down to 500 g, so no single rounding wastes much. The practical gains are bigger: one delivery, one line on the invoice and one stock figure to watch. The oil is where combining matters more. Rounding Lavender separately for the two designs buys 3,130 g for ₹16,432.04. Rounding it once buys 3,115 g for ₹16,308.02.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. There is no bulk saving on Soy Pillar Wax. It is ₹0.60 a gram in the 500 g bag and in the 10 kg bag. Combining four designs into one order saves you the rounding, not a volume discount. If a design is not yet proven, leave it out of the combined order and buy its wax when it is. A 10 kg bag bought early for a design that never sells is still ₹6,000.00 on a shelf.

Mould cycles and how many moulds

Grams decide the wax, but cycles decide the moulds. A cycle is one pour, set and release. Each mould gives a number of cycles per day that depends on the wax, the room and the size of the candle, and none of that is published. Time your test pours. The table uses a labelled 2 cycles per mould per day and a 10-day production window.

Labelled assumption: 2 cycles per mould per day · 10 production days · CSI mould prices, 24–25 September 2026
Cycles and moulds per design
Design Cavities Units poured Cycles Moulds needed Price each Mould cost
A · Plain pillar (tall) 1 123 123 7 ₹942.82 ₹6,599.74
B · Ribbed pillar 5 × 15 cm 1 83 83 5 ₹1,414.82 ₹7,074.10
C · Daisy pillar 1 63 63 4 ₹942.82 ₹3,771.28
D · Flowers (7-flower mould) 7 155 23 2 ₹885.00 ₹1,770.00
Total 292 18 ₹19,215.12

The seven-flower mould pours 155 flowers in 23 cycles, so one mould easily covers it. The plain pillar needs 123 cycles on a one-cavity mould, which means 7 moulds in a 10-day window. This is where a multi-design range gets expensive. The plain-pillar moulds alone cost ₹6,599.74, 37% of the wax they pour. Stretch the window to twenty days and the pillar moulds halve. Work back from your deadline before buying, and buy one of each design first to time the cycle. I Need 500 Bubble Candles for Wedding Favours — How Much Pillar Wax Should I Purchase After Accounting for Failed Unmoulding and Broken Candles? does the same maths for a single bubble mould.

Wicks are not priced in the list because each design needs its own burn-tested size, and none is published. Once you have them, group by size, count one wick per unit poured (including failures and tests), and buy from the Candle Wicks collection. A Braided Wick Roll (61 m, ₹706.82) suits threaded mould candles. The ribbed pillar mould's 5 × 7 cm size is out of stock, which is why the example uses the 5 × 15 cm. The Candle Mold Sealer (₹472.00) is worth having for the single-cavity pillar moulds.

The CSI principle
Calculate per design. Buy per material.
Each design earns its own row, because each fails, trims and scents differently. The purchase order is then grouped by what is really interchangeable: wax across designs, oil within a scent, wicks within a size.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. This page shows that combining designs saves rounding rather than a bulk discount, since Soy Pillar Wax is priced flat. It also advises leaving unproven designs out of the combined order.

Wax, oil, mould and sealer prices are CSI live pricing pulled on 24–25 September 2026. The Ribbed Pillar Mould's 5 × 7 cm size is out of stock and is not offered. All fills, trims, failure rates and test counts are illustrative or labelled working assumptions. CSI publishes no mould fill weights. Every derived figure is arithmetic shown to two decimals.

The 3% pour loss, the 8% load, 2 cycles per mould per day and the 10-day window are labelled working assumptions. No fragrance ceiling for Soy Pillar Wax is published in our data, and neither are wick sizes per design. For a quote on a mixed range, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate total wax for different candle moulds?
Make one row per design: good units, weighed finished fill, trim, failure rate, test pours and load. For each row, pours = good ÷ (1 − failure) + tests, then × (fill + trim) × (1 + pour loss), then split oil and wax. Add the wax rows that share a wax into one order.
Should I round wax per design or for the whole order?
For the whole order, when the designs share a wax. Here rounding once gives 6 × 10 kg + 4 × 1 kg (₹38,400.00) against ₹39,000.00 rounding four times. The saving is small with a flat-priced wax, but one delivery and one stock figure are simpler.
Can I combine fragrance oil across different candle designs?
Only for designs that use the same scent at the same load. Sum their oil and round once. Different scents stay separate, each with its own rounding. Unscented designs add wax only.
How do I work out wax for a multi-cavity silicone mould?
Weigh a full finished cycle, all cavities trimmed, and divide by the cavity count for the average per unit. Plan pours in cycles: units ÷ cavities, rounded up. The first test pour fills every cavity, so count a whole cycle as the test allowance.
How many moulds do I need for a mixed range?
Per design: units poured ÷ cavities = cycles, then cycles ÷ (cycles per mould per day × production days) = moulds, rounded up. Cycle time is not published, so time one pour from pour to clean release before buying the rest.
Do CSI silicone moulds list their fill weight?
No. Moulds are listed with dimensions or cavity counts, not fill weights. Water-weigh a mould for an estimate, then weigh a finished candle. My Silicone Mould Holds 240 g of Water — How Do I Estimate How Much Pillar Wax Is Required for Each Finished Candle? shows the conversion from a 240 g water fill.
