My Candle Costs ₹220 to Make and I Need to Bring It Below ₹180 — How Do I Identify Whether Wax, Fragrance, Jar or Packaging Offers the Biggest Realistic Saving?
Share
Can any single component cover the whole ₹40.00? No. The largest single saving on this candle is ₹23.41, which is 58.5% of your gap. Every route that reaches ₹180.00 moves at least two lines, and the routes that keep your scent all move the wax.
What can I save without changing a single material? ₹10.62, by buying the same 200 ml Salsa Glass Jar in its 50-piece pack at ₹29.50 instead of its 5-piece pack at ₹40.12. That takes the candle to ₹209.38, which is still ₹29.38 above your target. The wax and wick ladders give nothing further.
What does the cheapest route actually cost me? Changing wax, oil and jar pack together takes the candle to ₹164.29, ₹15.71 under target. The price is a new wax whose pour and cure you must re-establish, a scent your repeat customers did not buy, and a fifty-jar commitment. Change one at a time and keep a sample of each.
What ₹40.00 is, as a share of the candle you have
Your figures are ₹220.00 to make and ₹180.00 to reach, which is ₹40.00, or 18.18% of the candle. That percentage is the number to hold on to, because it is what separates this question from the ordinary trimming exercise. A few rupees can usually be found in rates and housekeeping without touching the product. Eighteen per cent cannot. Something the customer can see, smell or hold is going to change, and the useful work is deciding which thing, deliberately, rather than discovering it in a burn test.
To make that decision checkable rather than theoretical, this page costs a real candle that happens to land on your figure. On live CSI pricing in September 2026, Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 at ₹507.40 a kilogram, Woody Oud at ₹4.53 a gram, a 200 ml Salsa Glass Jar bought in the 5-piece pack and an Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) come to ₹220.00. Your own candle is almost certainly composed differently — a dearer jar, a cheaper oil, a heavier pour — but every rupee below can be traced to a product page, which is more use than a made-up breakdown of somebody else's ₹220.00.
State the fill reading, because the whole sheet moves with it: this page uses 200 g of wax plus 16.00 g of oil at 8% of wax weight, so 216.00 g goes into the jar. If your ₹220.00 is a 200 g finished candle rather than 200 g of wax, your wax and oil lines are both a little smaller than these and every saving below scales down with them.
| Line | Quantity | Rate | Cost | Share of the ₹40.00 gap it could cover |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wax — Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 | 200 g | ₹507.40/kg | ₹101.48 | Up to ₹21.68 · 54.2% |
| Fragrance — Woody Oud | 16.00 g at 8% of wax weight | ₹4.53/g | ₹72.50 | Up to ₹23.41 · 58.5% |
| Vessel — 200 ml Salsa Glass Jar, 5-piece pack | 1 | ₹40.12 each | ₹40.12 | Up to ₹10.62 · 26.5% |
| Wick — Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) | 1 | ₹5.90 each | ₹5.90 | ₹0.00 · the whole line is ₹5.90, under a sixth of the gap |
| Packaging — label, box, ribbon, insert | 1 set | Your figure | — | Not a CSI cost and not priced here |

The most each line can realistically give, and what it costs
"Realistic" is doing a lot of work in your question, so here is how this page defines it: the cheapest in-stock CSI option that a working maker would actually pour, not the cheapest number on the store. The maximum on the wax line is Eco Soy CSI 400 at ₹399.00 a kilogram, which is the lowest rate among the soy container waxes in stock. The maximum on the fragrance line, holding the load where it is, is a lower-rate oil — Eucalyptus Spearmint at ₹3.07 a gram. The maximum on the vessel is the same jar in its 50-piece pack. And the maximum on the wick is nothing at all.
| Line | From | To | Saving | What you give up |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fragrance, rate only | Woody Oud ₹4.53/g · ₹72.50 | Eucalyptus Spearmint ₹3.07/g · ₹49.09 | ₹23.41 | The scent. A different oil is a different product, and the pages describe the two strengths differently |
| Wax, grade | CSI 464 ₹507.40/kg · ₹101.48 | Eco Soy CSI 400 ₹399.00/kg · ₹79.80 | ₹21.68 | A re-established pour temperature, cure and wick size, and a published load ceiling you no longer have |
| Fragrance, load | 8% · 16.00 g · ₹72.50 | 6% · 12.00 g · ₹54.37 | ₹18.12 | Throw. 6% is the bottom of the range the Woody Oud page states for soy |
| Vessel, pack rate | 200 ml Salsa Glass Jar 5 Pcs · ₹40.12 | Same jar, 50 Pcs · ₹29.50 | ₹10.62 | Nothing at all, beyond committing to fifty jars instead of five |
| Wick | Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) · ₹5.90 | No cheaper option in stock · ₹5.90 | ₹0.00 | Nothing, because there is nothing to give |
| Packaging | Your figure | Your figure | Your figure | Not a CSI cost — see the blanks below |
Three things in that table are worth saying out loud. The fragrance rate is the single biggest saving at ₹23.41, and it is also the only one that changes what your customer bought — the two oils are a warm oriental and a clean herbal spa scent, and the pages describe their strengths differently, so this is a product decision dressed as a costing one. The vessel saving is the only free one: ₹10.62 for buying the identical jar in a larger pack. And the wick is not a lever — the whole line is ₹5.90, under a sixth of your gap, and every alternative on the store costs more than it.
Three routes to ₹180.00, and what each one costs you
Start with the route that changes no material at all, because it settles the question quickly. Buy the same jar in the 50-piece pack and the candle goes from ₹220.00 to ₹209.38. That is the whole of what is available without changing a single ingredient, and it is ₹29.38 above your target. The wax pack ladder adds nothing here — Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 is already at its lowest rate of ₹507.40 a kilogram in the 1 kg pack and stays there at 5 kg and 10 kg — and the wick ladder adds nothing anywhere.
From there the honest routes are three, and they differ in what they sacrifice rather than in how clever they are.
| Route | What moves | Total cut | New cost per candle | What you keep | What you lose |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Keep the scent | Wax to Eco Soy CSI 400 ₹21.68 · jar to the 50-piece pack ₹10.62 · load 8% to 7% ₹9.06 | ₹41.36 | ₹178.64 | The fragrance your customers recognise | A wax you have burn-tested, and one point of load |
| Keep the wax | Oil to Eucalyptus Spearmint ₹23.41 · jar to the 50-piece pack ₹10.62 · load 8% to 7% ₹6.14 | ₹40.17 | ₹179.83 | A wax and a pour you already know | The scent, and one point of load |
| Change wax, oil and jar pack | All three at 8% · ₹55.71 in all | ₹55.71 | ₹164.29 | The full 8% load, and ₹15.71 of headroom under the target | The wax and the scent together |
| Change nothing material | Jar to the 50-piece pack ₹10.62 | ₹10.62 | ₹209.38 | Everything | Nothing — and it misses by ₹29.38 |
Read the last row first. Doing nothing to the materials misses by ₹29.38. That is the answer to "which component offers the biggest realistic saving" in its strictest form: none of them, alone, and not the jar or the wick at all. Two of the three working routes lean on the wax or the fragrance for more than half the cut, which means the component that has to carry your cut is whichever of those two you are least attached to.
The whole candle, recosted
If you take both material changes and keep the load at 8%, the candle recosts to ₹164.29 — ₹15.71 under your target, which is the headroom you want when packaging and courier are still to be added. Here is that stack line by line against the one you have now.
| Line | Now | Cost | Recosted | Cost | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wax | CSI 464 · ₹507.40/kg | ₹101.48 | Eco Soy CSI 400 · ₹399.00/kg | ₹79.80 | −₹21.68 |
| Fragrance | Woody Oud · ₹4.53/g | ₹72.50 | Eucalyptus Spearmint · ₹3.07/g | ₹49.09 | −₹23.41 |
| Vessel | 200 ml Salsa Glass Jar · 5 Pcs | ₹40.12 | Same jar · 50 Pcs | ₹29.50 | −₹10.62 |
| Wick | Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) | ₹5.90 | Unchanged | ₹5.90 | ₹0.00 |
| Materials per candle | — | ₹220.00 | — | ₹164.29 | −₹55.71 |
| Against your target | — | ₹40.00 over | — | ₹15.71 under | — |
Two honest cautions about that column. CSI does not publish a fragrance-load maximum for Eco Soy CSI 400, so on this pairing the Eucalyptus Spearmint page's stated soy figure of up to 10% of total wax weight is the only published limit — 8% sits inside it, and the wax ceiling is a question for WhatsApp rather than a number to assume. And the Eco Soy CSI 400 page gives fragrance addition at 85°C within an 80 to 90°C window with a gentle two-minute stir and a direct pour, which is a different routine from the one you have; the page says the wax needs no additives and recommends Eco Wicks.
Packaging, the line this page will not price
Your question names four candidates and this page can only price three of them. CSI sells wax, fragrance oil, vessels and wicks. It does not sell labels, outer boxes, ribbon, tissue, inserts, shrink wrap or mailers, so there is no CSI figure for any of them and nothing here will invent one. That is not a small omission — for a gifting candle the printed box and the ribbon are frequently the second largest line on the sheet after the fragrance, and they are the line with the shortest path from a decision to a saving.
So fill the table below with your own quotations before you conclude that the wax has to change. A rigid printed box replaced with a kraft mailer and a sticker, a foiled label replaced with a single-colour one, a ribbon dropped entirely: those decisions are yours, they are reversible, and none of them alters what is in the jar. If they close half your gap, the material changes above become a choice rather than a necessity.
| Line | Why it is blank | Your figure |
|---|---|---|
| Printed label | Not a CSI product | — |
| Outer box, mailer, insert, void fill | Not a CSI product | — |
| Ribbon, tag, tissue, seal | Not a CSI product | — |
| Courier to your own customer | CSI publishes rates for delivering to you, not for your outbound parcels | — |
| Payment gateway or marketplace fee | Not a CSI product and varies by platform | — |
| Electricity, melting and your own hours | Not a CSI product | — |
| Wastage allowance | An assumption until you have weighed a batch, not data | — |
| Materials from CSI, as it stands | The four lines above | ₹220.00 |
| Materials from CSI, recosted | Wax, oil and jar pack changed | ₹164.29 |
Which component has to carry the cut
Ranked by rupees alone, the order is fragrance rate ₹23.41, wax grade ₹21.68, fragrance load ₹18.12, vessel pack ₹10.62, wick ₹0.00. Ranked by what they cost you, the order reverses almost exactly: the vessel pack is free, the wax grade costs you a requalification, the load costs you throw, and the fragrance costs you the product. There is no arrangement of those five in which the jar or the wick carries a ₹40.00 cut, and no arrangement in which you reach the target without touching the wax or the oil.
One last word on the number you started with. ₹220.00 to ₹180.00 may be a margin problem rather than a cost problem, and the arithmetic on this page is silent about which. What this page will not do is tell you what to charge; that decision, and the tax position behind it, belongs to you and your adviser. What it can tell you is that ₹40.00 out of a candle built like this one is reachable, it is reachable in at least three ways, and every one of them costs you something your customer can perceive. Choose which, rather than letting the spreadsheet choose for you.
CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA sells the wax, the fragrance oil, the jars and the wicks on this page, and the page still tells you that the fourth candidate in your question — packaging — is not a CSI product, carries no figure here, and is frequently where the ₹40.00 actually is on a gifting candle. It also tells you that the wick line cannot be cut at all, that the only free saving on the sheet is ₹10.62 for buying the same jar in a larger pack, and that the ₹55.71 available from changing everything at once should be taken one change at a time, because a batch you cannot diagnose costs more than the saving.
Every CSI price here is live stock in September 2026, taxes included, and the linked product pages are authoritative if anything changes. The ₹220.00, ₹180.00 and ₹40.00 are your own figures, used exactly as given; the ₹220.00 candle is a CSI-priced stack that matches the first of them and is not a claim about the composition of yours. Fragrance load is a percentage of wax weight, as CSI product pages state it: 200 g of wax plus 16.00 g of oil at 8%, 216.00 g poured. The Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 page states a maximum of 10% of total wax weight; the Woody Oud page states soy use at 6–10% and the Eucalyptus Spearmint page states soy use up to 10%, IFRA certification, 0% vanillin and a flash point of 199°C. CSI does not publish a fragrance-load maximum for Eco Soy CSI 400, so on that pairing the oil page's stated range is the only published limit — ask on WhatsApp for the wax figure. No vessel here is said to hold a particular weight of wax; the 200 ml Salsa Glass Jar page publishes millilitres and the Clear Glass Votive Jar 70 gram page states a capacity of about 70 g of wax fill. Labels, boxes, ribbon, inserts, outbound courier, gateway fees, electricity, rent, wastage and your own hours are not CSI products and are left blank throughout. This page gives no pricing, tax or licensing advice — your selling price is yours and your adviser's.
Message WhatsApp +91 7397976926 for bulk pricing, the stated fragrance-load maximum on a grade whose page does not publish one, GST invoicing, MSDS and IFRA documentation, or a second pair of eyes on a recosted sheet before you change a specification.

Wick: Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) 500 for ₹2,950.00 (₹5.90 each, the same rate at the 20, 50, 100 and 1,000 packs). Not priced anywhere on this page, because CSI does not sell them: labels, outer boxes, ribbon, tissue, inserts, mailers, outbound courier, gateway and marketplace fees, electricity, rent and labour; the wastage row is a blank for the reader's own measurement and no percentage is assumed. Prices and availability change — the linked product pages are always authoritative.
