Indian heat · warehouse qualification
A warm cabinet will not tell you how long a candle lasts. It will tell you which oil changed least under the same stress — before 25 kg is on your shelf.
₹130,525.00
25 kg of CSI Lavender bought as 25 × 1 kg packs at the listed price
Quick answers — read this first
Does heat-ageing predict shelf life? No. It speeds up change so you can compare oils side by side. Only real-time storage in your own conditions supports a shelf life you can state.

What temperature should the cabinet run? Choose a starting point such as 40°C for 14 days and record it. It is your test condition, not a standard or a CSI rating.

Why include an unscented candle? Wax can develop its own odour when warm. An unscented control in the same conditions shows how much of the change is wax rather than fragrance.

Is there a 25 kg pack price? No oil pack above 1 kg is listed. 25 kg is 25 × 1 kg at the listed price or a WhatsApp quote.
The short answer
Direct answer: Yes — qualify candidates with a side-by-side warm-cabinet test plus real-time warehouse storage before buying 25 kg.
Key number: 25 × ₹5,221.00 = ₹130,525.00 for 25 kg of CSI Lavender at the 1 kg pack price.
Limit: Accelerated results rank oils; they never convert into a number of months.

Straight answer
My Candle Smells Fine in Storage but Changes After Sitting in a Hot Warehouse — Should I Qualify Fragrance Oils Using Accelerated Heat-Ageing Before Buying 25 Kg?
Yes, but use accelerated heat-ageing as a comparison tool, not a shelf-life predictor. Make identical, coded candles from two or three candidate oils, add an unscented control, and split them between a cool reference shelf, a controlled warm cabinet (for example 40°C for 14 days, a suggested starting point) and the real warehouse shelf. Smell blind at room temperature and burn-test one from each group. The oil that changes least under the same stress goes forward; the warehouse arm keeps running as your real-time evidence. Our oil pages publish no shelf life, so ask on WhatsApp for IFRA, MSDS and storage guidance in writing, and size the 25 kg order to the months you have actually seen the oil stay acceptable.
One line: test three oils hot and cold for ₹1,553.12 before committing ₹130,525.00 to one of them.
CSI Lavender — 100 g ₹540.00 for the comparison, 1 kg ₹5,221.00 when you scale; our page publishes no shelf life, so ask for guidance in writing.

What the hot warehouse is really telling you

A candle that smells right in your cool workroom and different after weeks in a hot warehouse has told you something useful: your storage, not your recipe, is now part of the formula.

You make a batch, it cures, it passes your sniff test, and it goes into the warehouse. Weeks later a carton comes back out and the scent has moved. The fresh lift is quieter, the base feels heavier, or there is a faint note you never approved. Now you are about to buy 25 kg of oil, and you want to know whether the next oil you choose will survive that warehouse any better.

That is exactly the right moment to ask the question. Once 25 kg is in your store room, the experiment is over and you are living with the result. A few hundred rupees of sample oil and a disciplined heat test can tell you which candidate copes better before the money is committed.

Two honest limits first. Our fragrance-oil pages publish no shelf life, no storage temperature and no ageing data for any oil. And an accelerated heat test cannot tell you how many months a candle will last. What it can do is rank the options you are considering, quickly, under the same stress, so that the oil you scale up is the one that changed least in your hands.

Why heat changes a candle's scent

A fragrance oil is a mixture, not a single substance. As general practice, the lighter, more volatile materials — many citrus and fresh top notes — evaporate and can oxidise more readily than heavier woody, resinous, musky and vanillic materials. Warmth speeds both processes. So a candle held warm can shift in balance even when no measurable amount of oil has left it: the top recedes and the base seems louder.

Heat also acts on the wax. Soy container wax held warm can soften, sweat or develop its own odour, which then sits underneath the fragrance and changes how you read it. That is why every heat test in this guide includes an unscented control candle stored beside the scented ones. If the control smells different too, part of the change is wax, not oil.

Finally, heat changes perception on the day you smell. A warm candle gives off more cold throw than a cool one. If you sniff a carton straight out of a hot warehouse and compare it with a candle from your air-conditioned office, you are comparing temperatures as much as fragrances. Let every candle sit in the same room for a set time — a few hours is a reasonable starting point — before you judge.

Designing an accelerated heat-ageing comparison

The design is simple: identical candles, made the same day, split between conditions. One group is held warm, one stays in your normal storage, and one is kept cool and dark as a reference. The differences between the groups, not the absolute smell of any one candle, are your result.

1
Choose the candidates. Shortlist two or three oils for the role, including the one you use now if you have it. If you are choosing for a lavender candle, CSI Lavender is the natural candidate; add one or two others from the same family or a family you are considering.
2
Make identical candles. Same wax, same jar, same wick, same load as a percentage of total candle weight, same pour day. A 200 g candle at 8% is 184 g wax plus 16 g oil. Cure for at least the stated minimum on the product page — 48–72 h for soy — before anything goes into a test condition.
3
Code and split. Label each candle with a code, not the oil name. Two go to a cool, dark reference shelf; two go into a controlled warm cabinet; two go onto the actual warehouse shelf that caused the problem.
4
Set the warm condition. Pick a cabinet temperature and hold time as a suggested starting point — for example, 40°C for 14 days, checked twice daily on a thermometer. Use a controlled warm room or cabinet, supervised. Never a kitchen oven, microwave, stove, car boot or anything near a flame.
5
Smell and burn. At the end of the hold, bring every candle to the same room, wait, then sniff blind with more than one person. Burn one candle from each group, attended, and record hot throw and any change in flame or melt pool.
Starting points, not standards
Forty degrees and fourteen days are not a standard and not a CSI rating. They are a reasonable first stress for comparing oils. If your warehouse runs hotter or your holds run longer, adjust and note why.

Run real-time ageing in parallel. The warehouse group is your real-time arm: it tells you what actually happens in your building, at your season, in your packaging. The cabinet group tells you sooner which oil is likely to cope better. When both arms point the same way, you can act with confidence. When they disagree, believe the real-time arm and keep watching.

A heat-ageing qualification record

Write results down as you go. Memory is the weakest instrument in any fragrance test. Use a simple 1–5 score for strength and for faithfulness to the reference candle, plus a word or two of description. The table below is a template filled in with example entries so you can see how a decision falls out of it.

Template
Heat-ageing qualification record (example entries)
Candle code Condition Strength 1–5 Faithful to reference 1–5 Notes Hot throw (burn)
A1 / A2 Cool dark reference 4 5 Baseline Good, even
A3 / A4 Warm cabinet, suggested 40°C, 14 days 3 3 Top quieter, base heavier Slightly softer
A5 / A6 Warehouse shelf 3 4 Similar to reference, a little flatter Close to reference
B3 / B4 Warm cabinet, same settings 2 2 Sharp edge appearing Weaker
U1 / U2 Unscented control, cabinet — — Faint waxy note Not burned

In this example, oil A held its character better than oil B under the same stress, and the unscented control shows the wax picked up a faint note of its own. That is a ranking and a warning, not a shelf life. You still do not know how many months either oil lasts. You only know which one to take forward and that the wax contributes something you will need to keep separate when you read later results.

Common mistake. Scoring the warm candles straight out of the cabinet while they are still warm. They will smell stronger because they are warm. Always let them return to room temperature first, and compare in one sitting.

The money: test first, then size the order

Here is the order you are considering, priced at our listed 1 kg pack. No oil pack above 1 kg is listed, so 25 kg is twenty-five 1 kg packs at the listed price, or a quote you request on WhatsApp. We do not publish a bulk discount and you should not assume one.

25 kg of CSI Lavender: 25 × ₹5,221.00 = ₹130,525.00. That works out at ₹5,221.00 ÷ 1,000 = ₹5.221 per gram, so the oil in one 200 g candle at 8% costs 16 × ₹5.221 = ₹83.54.

Now the qualification kit: one 100 g sample each of three candidate oils. Lavender 100 g ₹540.00 + Bergamot Amber 100 g ₹560.00 + Woody Oud 100 g ₹453.12 = ₹1,553.12. Each 100 g makes six 200 g candles at 8% (100 ÷ 16 = 6.25, so six), which is exactly the six candles per oil the design above needs.

Then the second question: how long will 25 kg last you? Suppose, as an example, you use 2.5 kg a month. Then 25 ÷ 2.5 = 10 months of cover. The order only makes sense if you have seen that oil stay acceptable for roughly that long in your own storage, or if we have given you written guidance for that oil and lot. If your real-time test has only reached month three, buy closer to three months of cover and reorder.

This is the part where we argue against our own sales. A 25 kg order of an oil you have tested for two weeks in a cabinet is a bet, not a purchase. Smaller, more frequent orders cost the same per gram at our 1 kg pack, and they keep fresher oil on your shelf.

Before you place the 25 kg order

Ask us on WhatsApp (+91 7397976926) for the IFRA certificate and MSDS for the oil, and ask what storage and shelf-life guidance applies to that oil and lot. Get the answer in writing. If we cannot give you a figure, treat that as a reason to keep your order to what your own tests support.

Keep a retained reference: a sealed portion of the approved lot stored cool and dark, and two or three retained candles from your first production batch. When a later delivery or a later complaint needs checking, you will have something real to compare against instead of a memory.

And fix the warehouse where you can. A heat-tolerant oil does not make a hot top shelf safe for your wax, your lids or your labels. Measure the shelf where the problem cartons sat, move finished stock to the coolest position, and keep oil drums and bottles away from roofs, windows and heat sources.

A practical sequence, then: buy the three samples, run the six-candle-per-oil comparison with an unscented control, take the best performer forward, buy 1 kg and make a production-size batch, keep watching the warehouse arm, and only then build up to 25 kg in step with what your months of cover and your own test results support.

Argue against interest
Do not buy 25 kg of an oil you have only tested for two weeks.
A warm cabinet ranks oils quickly, but it cannot tell you month ten. Buy the months of cover your own real-time storage has actually supported.
A heat test is a race between candidates, not a clock for any one of them.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials and production equipment, not finished candles. This guide separates general fragrance-ageing practice from what CSI's own product pages state, says plainly that CSI's oil pages publish no shelf life, storage temperature or ageing data, treats the 60-month shelf life on the CSI 464 and 468 pages as a wax statement only, and labels every test day, cabinet temperature, candle count, reject rate or lead time as a starting point or the reader's own figure.

Prices are live CSI prices from October 2026; product pages are authoritative. No fragrance-oil pack above 1 kg is listed, so larger quantities are shown as multiples of the 1 kg price; ask for a quote rather than assuming a discount.

Frequently asked questions

Should I heat-age fragrance oils before buying in bulk?
It is worth doing as a comparison. Make identical test candles from each candidate, hold some in a controlled warm cabinet and some in your real storage, then smell blind and burn-test. Choose the oil that changed least, but keep the real-time arm running before you size a large order.
Can I use my kitchen oven for a heat-ageing test?
No. Never use a kitchen oven, microwave, stove, car boot or anything near a flame. Use a controlled warm room or cabinet with a thermometer, supervised, and record the temperature at least twice a day.
How long should an accelerated heat test run?
Pick a duration as a starting point — for example 14 days — and keep it the same for every oil you compare. Longer holds stress the candles more, but no duration converts into an exact shelf life.
What shelf life does CSI give for its fragrance oils?
Our fragrance-oil pages publish no shelf life, storage temperature or ageing data. Ask on WhatsApp (+91 7397976926) for the IFRA certificate, MSDS and any storage or shelf-life guidance for that oil and lot, and get it in writing.
Is 25 kg of fragrance oil cheaper per kg than 1 kg?
No pack above 1 kg is listed, so 25 kg is 25 × 1 kg at the listed price unless you request a quote on WhatsApp. The 1 kg pack is already the cheapest per gram on each oil.
How do I know if the wax changed rather than the fragrance?
Store an unscented candle made from the same wax alongside the scented ones. If the control develops an odour under heat, part of the change you smell in scented candles is coming from the wax.
