Bulk pricing · what falls with volume
Most of a candle's material cost behaves like a price per piece, not a price per order. Set-up, labour and delivery shrink as the order grows, and one cost usually rises. Knowing which is which is the whole negotiation.
₹47.35
how much the full cost of one 150 g Jasmine candle in a Salsa jar falls from 100 to 1,000 pieces (₹241.72 → ₹194.37), of which ₹7.13 is materials · CSI live pricing + example figures, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
Which candle costs decrease with volume? Costs fixed per order (set-up, sampling, artwork), labour per piece as runs get longer, and delivery per piece. In the example here those three fall from ₹63.00 to ₹20.50 a candle between 100 and 1,000 pieces (example figures).

Which costs stay almost the same? Materials. At CSI's listed prices the oil, wax, jar and wick in this candle cost ₹166.23 at 100 pieces and ₹159.10 at 1,000, a 4.3% fall. Labels, cartons and electricity per candle are also flat unless a supplier quotes a run price.

Does anything get more expensive at 1,000? Cash. A bigger order ties up a bigger material bill for longer. At an example 1.5% a month, that cost rises from ₹2.49 to ₹4.77 a candle. Storage space, overtime against a deadline and the cost of a failed batch also grow with the order.

How much lower can my 1,000-piece price go? By about the rupees that fell: ₹47.35 a candle in this example. A candle sold at ₹499.00 for 100 pieces can go to about ₹451.65 for 1,000 at the same rupee profit per candle. Below that, you are paying for the discount out of your margin. See what to offer.
The short answer
Falls: Set-up ₹30.00 → ₹3.00, labour ₹15.00 → ₹10.00, delivery ₹18.00 → ₹7.50 per candle (example figures).
Flat: Oil, wax, jar and wick ₹166.23 → ₹159.10 at CSI listed prices. The Salsa jar's price break (₹40.12 → ₹29.50) sits between 5 and 50 jars, below any bulk order.
Rises: Cash tied up ₹2.49 → ₹4.77 per candle at an example 1.5% a month. Total cost ₹241.72 → ₹194.37.
Shop: Jasmine · CSI 464 · Salsa jar · volume quotes on WhatsApp.
Per-candle cost, 100 pieces (outline) vs 1,000 pieces (solid) — only some lines move Oil ₹52.12 → ₹49.03 Wax ₹76.11 → ₹73.57 Jar + cap ₹31.51 → ₹30.30 Wick ₹6.49 → ₹6.20 Set-up* ₹30.00 → ₹3.00 Labour* ₹15.00 → ₹10.00 Delivery* ₹18.00 → ₹7.50 Label + carton* ₹9.00 → ₹9.00 Cash tied up* ₹2.49 → ₹4.77 * example figures to replace with your own · oil, wax, jar and wick = CSI listed prices, 24–25 Sep 2026 · 150 g fill is illustrative
Each pair of bars is one cost line for one candle. The outline is the 100-piece order and the solid bar is the 1,000-piece order. Oil, wax, jar and wick barely change, because CSI prices them flat per unit above small packs. Set-up, labour and delivery shrink, and cash tied up grows. Starred lines are example figures: replace them with your own. The shape is what matters.
Straight answer
My customer wants a lower price for 1,000 candles — which costs actually go down, and which stay the same?
Three kinds of cost fall: costs fixed per order (samples, test pours, artwork, set-up), labour per piece as runs get longer, and delivery per piece. Materials mostly do not. For a 150 g candle with 12 g of Jasmine, CSI 464 wax, an Eco wick and a 200 ml Salsa jar with golden lug cap, CSI's listed prices give ₹166.23 of materials per candle at 100 pieces and ₹159.10 at 1,000. CSI 464, Eco wicks and the jar are flat per unit at those quantities, and Jasmine's 8.8% break is already reached at 500 g. With example set-up, labour, delivery and packaging, full cost falls from ₹241.72 to ₹194.37, a drop of ₹47.35. One line rises: the cash tied up in a bigger order for longer. So the honest answer to the customer is a reduction of about ₹47.35 a candle, which takes a ₹499.00 price to about ₹451.65. Anything more has to come from your margin or from a change to the candle.
One line: materials are priced per piece, set-up is priced per order — only the second one gets cheaper when the order gets bigger.
If the customer is pushing on price, find out first whether your materials can move at all. The 1,000-piece candle here needs 12.5 kg of Jasmine and 145 kg of CSI 464, which costs ₹49,025.00 and ₹73,573.00 at listed prices. Send us those quantities on WhatsApp for a quote. No discount figure is published, so treat the listed price as your cost until a quote says otherwise.

Every cost line, 100 vs 1,000

A customer asking for a lower price is really asking which of your costs got smaller. Answer that with a table, not a feeling.

The example is a customer who took 100 candles at ₹499.00 each and now wants 1,000 of the same thing for less. The candle is a 200 ml Salsa Glass Jar with a golden lug cap, so the lid is already in the jar price. It uses an illustrative 150 g fill. The jar's fill weight is not published, so weigh your own filled jar and replace the figure. At an 8% load that is 12 g of Jasmine Fragrance Oil and 138 g of Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464, which is rated up to 10% by the wax maker, plus one Eco Candle Wicks Thin C1. Size the wick by burn test in your jar, because wick sizing per diameter is not published. Materials carry a 4% wax and oil allowance, 5% spare wicks and 2% spare jars, all working assumptions, and are bought in whole packs.

Cost per candle ₹241.72 ₹194.37 −₹47.35 (−19.6%)

Read it from the top. The four material lines together move from ₹166.23 to ₹159.10. Most of that small movement is pack rounding. A 100-piece order ends with more oil and wax left over in the last pack, and those leftovers are shared across fewer candles. The per-gram and per-unit prices are almost identical. The lines that actually move are set-up (−₹27.00), labour (−₹5.00) and delivery (−₹10.50). All three are example figures, and all three are yours to measure.

Buy Jasmine in 500 g bottles, not kilos
Jasmine's 500 g is ₹1,961.00 and its 1 kg is ₹3,923.00, so two 500 g bottles cost ₹1.00 less than one kilo. Smaller bottles also mean less oil exposed to air each time you open one during a long run. The same check is worth doing on any oil before a big order. The cheapest way to buy a given weight is not always the biggest pack.
Argued against our own interest, plainly. The easy line for a supplier is that a bigger order always gets a better material price. On our listed prices, the wax in this candle costs ₹507.40 a kilo whether you buy 1 kg or 10 kg, the wick is ₹5.90 at every pack size, and the jar's break comes between 5 and 50 pieces. If your customer is asking for a 1,000-piece discount, it will not come from our listed packs. Ask us on WhatsApp for a quote at the real volume. Whatever it says, price from the quote in your hand.

Where CSI's price breaks actually sit

Price breaks do exist on the CSI list. They are simply fewer, and sit lower down the quantity scale, than most makers assume. Here are the real ones, alongside the flat lines, so you know exactly which materials can move.

Steel Wick Holder 5 for ₹250.00 25 for ₹1,250.00 0.0% None — ₹50.00 each

The pattern is clear. Breaks sit at the bottom of the ladder: between a 5-pack and a 50-pack of jars, or between 100 g and 500 g of oil. By the time you are buying for 100 candles you have already passed most of them. The oils are the same story at catalogue scale. Of 91 oils listing both 100 g and 1 kg, 52 cost within 1% per gram, and only 24 save 5% or more. Mango Coconut at 20.7% and Citronella at 62.3% are the exceptions, and a few, like Love Spell, cost fractionally more per gram in the kilo.

One wax switch is worth pricing if your customer wants a lower number. Natural Soy Pearl Wax costs ₹424.80 a kilo from 5 kg up, against ₹507.40 for CSI 464. For the 1,000-piece order that is 2 × 50 kg + 4 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg for ₹61,596.00, which saves ₹11.97 a candle. It is a different wax, though. No fragrance-load ceiling is quoted for it in our data, so check its product page or ask us on WhatsApp for the maker's stated maximum. Treat 6–10% as a test range only, and burn-test it in your jar before you offer it. The CSI principle
Per-piece costs stay per-piece. Per-order costs are the only ones volume divides.
Before any bulk negotiation, sort every line of your costing into one of three columns: fixed per order, per piece, or per month of holding. Only the first column gets smaller per candle as the order grows. The third gets bigger.

The cost that rises

A 1,000-piece order is ten times the material bill, paid earlier, held longer and at more risk.

The material bill for 100 of these candles is about ₹16,622.60. For 1,000 it is about ₹1,59,095.40. It also stays tied up longer, because production, cure and delivery take longer and corporate payment terms often run past delivery. The table puts a price on that with an example rate of 1.5% a month, standing in for whatever your money costs you: a loan's interest, or the return you give up by not using that cash elsewhere. Replace the rate with your own. I Got an Inquiry for 1,000 Corporate Candles — Should I Purchase All the Raw Materials Before Receiving the Customer's Advance? covers how much to spend before the advance arrives.

1
Price the cash, not just the materialsMaterial bill × your monthly rate × months tied up. At an example 1.5% for 2 months, the 1,000-piece order carries ₹4.77 a candle. The 100-piece order, held one month, carries ₹2.49. Small, but it moves the wrong way, and it grows fast if payment slips.
2
Price the spaceA thousand filled Salsa jars need shelf space to cure and cartons to wait in. If that means renting space or giving up other production days, it is a cost of this order. Put a figure on it, even a rough one.
3
Price the deadlineBig orders tend to have fixed dates. Overtime, rush courier on a missing material and a second pair of hands all cost more per candle than your normal rhythm. I Need to Produce 500 Candles in Seven Days — How Do I Calculate Whether My Current Melting Equipment, Moulds and Workspace Can Handle the Production Volume? shows how to check capacity before you commit to a date.
4
Price the failureA scent problem found at candle 50 of 100 costs 50 candles. The same problem found late in a 1,000-piece run can cost hundreds. That is why the approval and buffer steps in I'm Accepting a 1,000-Piece Custom Candle Order — What Should be Fully Tested and Approved Before I Spend Money on Bulk Raw Materials? and I Have a Large Candle Order with a Strict Delivery Date — How Much Extra Raw-Material Inventory Should I Keep in Case of Rejects or Supplier Delays? pay for themselves on big orders.
The quiet margin leak. A maker agrees to 1,000 pieces at a price that looks fine on the material costing, then gives the client 60-day payment terms. The material bill is paid in week one. Two to three months of cash sits in someone else's stock room. Fix: price the payment terms. Either take an advance that covers the material bill (I Got an Inquiry for 1,000 Corporate Candles — Should I Purchase All the Raw Materials Before Receiving the Customer's Advance?), or add the holding cost to the unit price and show the client the difference between payment terms.

What to offer the customer

You now know the honest number: ₹47.35 a candle came off your cost between 100 and 1,000 pieces. Passing all of it on takes ₹499.00 to ₹451.65 and leaves your rupee profit per candle where it was, at ₹257.28. Your total profit on the order is ten times larger, and your gross margin percentage moves from 51.6% to 57.0%.

Example · cost per candle from the table above
Three responses to "can you do it for less at 1,000?"
Offer Price Cost Gross margin Markup Profit on 1,000
Same price as the 100-piece order ₹499.00 ₹194.37 61.0% 156.7% ₹3,04,630.00
Pass the whole cost fall through ₹451.65 ₹194.37 57.0% 132.4% ₹2,57,280.00
A round number the customer will hear ₹479.00 ₹194.37 59.4% 146.4% ₹2,84,630.00

Gross margin is profit ÷ price, and markup is profit ÷ cost. Quote both inside your own costing so you never confuse them. A round ₹479.00 gives the customer a visible step from ₹499.00 while keeping you above the pass-through line. If they want a bigger drop than that, change the candle, not the margin: a simpler label, a lower-cost oil tier, or the Soy Pearl wax switch above, each approved by the client first. I Need to Give a Bulk Candle Price for 100, 500 and 1,000 Pieces — How Do I Calculate Quantity Discounts Without Accidentally Eliminating My Margin? builds a full 100/500/1,000 ladder with a written floor price, and A Corporate Client Wants Premium Fragrance but a Low Candle Price — Where Can I Reduce Cost Without Making the Finished Product Feel Cheap? covers where to save without the candle feeling cheap.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. A supplier writing about bulk discounts has an obvious reason to say that bigger orders unlock cheaper materials. Our own listed prices say that mostly they do not, so this page lists every flat line and every real break we have, including the ones that sit below any bulk order.

Oil and wax prices are CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026. Jar, stick and wick-holder prices were pulled 24–25 September 2026, and Eco wick and White Matte Jar figures are Blog 760's, verified 10 September 2026. Pack combinations are the cheapest whole-pack mix covering each quantity. All per-candle figures are arithmetic, shown to two decimals.

Set-up, labour, delivery, label, carton, electricity and the 1.5% monthly holding rate are examples to replace with your own figures. The 150 g fill is illustrative, because the jar's fill weight is not published. Allowances are working assumptions. Frequently asked questions

Why is my cost per candle not much lower for 1,000 candles?
Because most of it is materials, and materials are priced per unit. On CSI's listed packs, the oil, wax, jar and wick for this example candle fall only from ₹166.23 to ₹159.10. The savings from volume come from per-order costs (set-up, sampling) and faster labour, and those are a smaller share of the candle.
Which candle raw materials have bulk price breaks at CSI?
On the 24–25 September 2026 pull: 200 ml Salsa jars (₹40.12 → ₹29.50 each from 50), black Mini Glass Jars (₹25.96 → ₹21.24 at 100), Natural Soy Pearl Wax (₹450.00 → ₹424.80 a kilo from 5 kg), and 24 oils with a 5%+ kilo saving, such as Mango Coconut and Jasmine. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, CSI 464, Eco and braided wicks, and the White Matte Jar are flat.
How much discount can I give on a bulk candle order?
Up to the rupees your cost per candle actually fell, if you want to keep the same profit per candle. In this example that is ₹47.35, taking ₹499.00 to about ₹451.65. More than that comes out of your margin. I Need to Give a Bulk Candle Price for 100, 500 and 1,000 Pieces — How Do I Calculate Quantity Discounts Without Accidentally Eliminating My Margin? shows how to set a floor price.
Do bulk candle orders cost more in any way?
Yes. Cash is tied up in a bigger material bill for longer, storage and curing space grows, deadlines bring overtime and rush costs, and a failed batch is more expensive. Put a figure on each in your costing. Payment terms are the biggest of these, so price them.
Is the 10 kg soy wax bag cheaper than 1 kg?
Not for Luxury Soy Wax Chunks (₹599.00 a kilo at 1 kg and 5 kg, ₹599.90 at 10 kg) or CSI 464 (₹507.40 a kilo at every size). Natural Soy Pearl Wax is cheaper from 5 kg, at ₹424.80 against ₹450.00. For more than the listed packs, ask CSI on WhatsApp for a quote.
Should I include delivery cost in a bulk candle price?
Either include it and say so, or quote it separately. Don't leave it out. Delivery per candle usually falls with volume (example figures here: ₹18.00 at 100, ₹7.50 at 1,000), so it is one of the honest sources of a bulk discount. Get the courier or transport quote before you send the price.
