Going from 200 to 500 candles a month is a real change, and your reorder points must move with it straight away. What should not move straight away is how much you buy each time. Order at the new pace, two weeks at a time, and let each fortnight tell you whether the next one should be bigger.
44.22 kg
new wax reorder point at 500 a month (was 17.69 kg at 200) · 7-day lead + 7-day buffer · 200 g at 8% · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
How quickly should I increase raw-material inventory after sales grow from 200 to 500? Raise the reorder point at once, to the pace of the last four weeks: wax from 17.69 kg to 44.22 kg, oil from 1.54 kg to 3.85 kg. Raise the order size more cautiously: two weeks at a time, resized every fortnight.

Which sales figure should I plan on? The last month (500), not the three-month average (390) and not the trend (600). The average leaves you short if 500 holds. The trend stocks you for a month that has not happened. See choosing the pace.

What if the growth stops? Ordering fortnightly at 500, a fall back to 400 leaves about 167 candles' worth of stock at month end (31.59 kg of wax). Buying a month at the trend of 600 would leave 340 (64.44 kg).

What does a fortnight's order cost at 500 a month? Wax 4 × 10 kg + 4 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g of CSI 468 (₹28,405.00) plus two oils (₹17,667.81): ₹46,072.81, against ₹18,898.03 at 200 a month.
The short answer
Per candle: 200 g at 8% = 16 g oil + 184 g wax; with 3% allowance 189.52 g wax + 16.48 g oil.
At 200 vs 500: Wax a month 37.90 kg → 94.76 kg · reorder point 17.69 kg → 44.22 kg · oil a month 3.30 kg → 8.24 kg.
Rule: Reorder points follow the last 4 weeks. Order sizes follow a fortnight at that pace, resized each time. Step the pace up after two fortnights above it; step down after two below.
200 to 500 in three months — and three things October could do Solid bars = your sales · outlined bars = possible Octobers · dashed line = the pace this page plans on (last 4 weeks) 200 Jun 280 Jul 390 Aug 500 Sep 400 Oct? Falls back 500 Oct? Holds 600 Oct? Trend continues Plan on 500 · order fortnightly · buffer 7 days
Four months of real sales (solid) and three possible Octobers (outlined). A plan built on the three-month average (390) is already behind the business. A plan built on the trend (600) buys for a month that has not happened. This page plans on what the last four weeks actually sold, 500, and uses short orders and a 7-day buffer to absorb either direction.
Straight answer
My monthly candle sales increased from 200 to 500 units. How quickly should I increase raw-material inventory without assuming the growth will continue forever?
Split the question in two, because stock has two levers. The reorder point protects you from running out, and it should move immediately to the pace of the last four weeks. For 200 g candles at 8% with a 3% allowance, a 7-day delivery and a 7-day buffer, that takes wax from 17.69 kg to 44.22 kg and fragrance from 1.54 kg to 3.85 kg. Leave it at the old level and you will run out within days. The order size decides how much stock you carry, and it is where over-optimism costs money. Do not order for the trend: a straight line through 200, 280, 390 and 500 says 600 next month, and it is a guess. Do not order for the three-month average either (390), which is already behind you. Order two weeks at the last four weeks' pace — 4 × 10 kg + 4 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g of Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 at 500 a month, ₹28,405.00 — and resize every fortnight. If sales keep climbing, each order grows with them. If they stop at 500 or fall back, you are never holding more than about three weeks of stock. Step the planning pace up only after two fortnights above it.
One line: move the reorder point today; grow the order size one fortnight at a time; never stock for a month you have not seen.
A fortnight at 500 a month is 44.22 kg of wax: 4 × 10 kg + 4 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g of Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 for ₹28,405.00. CSI 468 is ₹650.00 a kilo at 1 kg and ₹637.00 at 5 and 10 kg, so the 10 kg bags are both the handy size and the slightly cheaper one.

Choosing the pace to plan on

Every stock number starts with a sales pace. After a growth spurt, there are three candidates, and two of them are wrong in opposite directions.

Say your last four months were Jun 200, Jul 280, Aug 390, Sep 500. The history is an example; use yours. The title fixes the start and end: 200 then 500. Three candidate paces fall out of it. The last month, 500, is what the business is doing now. The three-month average (July to September), 390, smooths out noise but lags any real change. The trend, extending the average climb of 100 a month, says 600. Only one of those has actually happened.

200 g at 8% · 3% allowance · 7-day lead + 7-day buffer · Coconut Soy CSI 468 at ₹637.00 / kg (10 kg bag)
Three paces, three stock plans
Planning pace Candles a month Wax a month Wax reorder point Oil a month Oil reorder point A month of wax in CSI 468
Three-month average 390 73.91 kg 34.49 kg 6.43 kg 3.00 kg 7 × 10 kg + 4 × 1 kg · ₹47,190.00
Last month 500 94.76 kg 44.22 kg 8.24 kg 3.85 kg 9 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg · ₹60,515.00
Trend 600 113.71 kg 53.07 kg 9.89 kg 4.61 kg 11 × 10 kg + 4 × 1 kg · ₹72,670.00

The difference between the average and the trend is 39.80 kg of wax a month. That is the size of the bet you are making when you choose a pace. The last month sits in the middle and has one decisive advantage: it is a fact. Planning on it means you are never short of what you are already selling, and never stocked for sales you have only imagined.

Use four weeks, not a calendar month
If growth is steep, a calendar month hides it: the first week of September may have sold at 400 a month and the last at 600. Use the last four complete weeks, scaled to 30 days. It reacts faster and still smooths a single odd week.

What each choice risks

To see the risk plainly, imagine buying a whole month at each pace, plus a 7-day buffer at that pace, and then living through three possible Octobers: sales fall back to 400, hold at 500, or follow the trend to 600. The table shows what is left at the end of the month, in candles' worth of material. A negative number is a shortfall.

One month bought up front at the planning pace + 7-day buffer · candles' worth left at month end (wax at 189.52 g a candle)
Stock left over, or short, in three possible Octobers
Bought for October falls to 400 October holds at 500 October reaches 600
Three-month average (390) 81 left · 15.35 kg 19 short 119 short
Last month (500) 217 left · 41.06 kg 117 left · 22.11 kg 17 left · 3.16 kg
Trend (600) 340 left · 64.44 kg 240 left · 45.48 kg 140 left · 26.53 kg
Fortnightly at 500, resized 167 left · 31.59 kg 117 left · 22.11 kg 67 left · 12.63 kg

Planning on the average runs short if 500 holds and badly short if growth continues. Planning on the trend leaves 340 candles' worth, 64.44 kg of wax plus the matching oil, if October falls back. Planning on the last month is balanced but still leaves 217 if sales dip. The last row is the approach this page recommends: plan on 500 but order two weeks at a time, and size the second fortnight from what the first actually sold. It leaves less in a bad month (167) and more cushion in a good one (67) than buying a whole month at 500 or at the trend.

Buying for the trend. Growth from 200 to 500 feels like momentum, and momentum feels like a forecast. It is not one. The same four months could be a new plateau, a seasonal lift, or one big stockist ordering twice. If you buy a month at 600 and October comes in at 400, you are carrying about 64.44 kg of wax and several kilos of fragrance into November, and the fragrance is the part that ages on the shelf. Let the sales pull the stock up, not the other way round.
The CSI principle
React fast on the reorder point. React slowly on the order size.
The reorder point decides whether you run out, so it should follow the last four weeks without delay. The order size decides how much cash is on the shelf, so it should grow only as fast as sales prove themselves, one fortnight at a time.

Fast on the line, slow on the order

Most makers adjust stock with one dial. There are two, and after growth they should move at different speeds.

At 200 a month the wax reorder point was 17.69 kg. At 500 it is 44.22 kg. If you keep the old line, you will not reorder until the shelf is at 17.69 kg, which at the new pace is only 5.6 days of wax against a 7-day delivery. The first week of growth would end in a stockout. So the line moves today. The order size is different. At 200 a month you may have been buying a month at a time, about 37.90 kg. At 500 a month, a month is 94.76 kg. Jumping straight to that means the first full-size order lands before you know whether 500 is real. Two weeks at a time halves the size of each bet.

Two things change with the scale, and both are useful. First, the fragrance moves into kilo bottles. At 500 a month, a fortnight of the top scent is 2,307.20 g, so Lemongrass and Lime, whose 1 kg is 11.9% cheaper per gram than its 100 g, is bought in kilos. Second, CSI 468's 10 kg bag is ₹637.00 a kilo against ₹650.00 for the 1 kg, a 2% difference that now applies to most of the wax you buy. Neither is a reason to buy more; both are reasons to buy the right packs for the quantity you actually need.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. A business that has just grown 150% is the easiest customer a supplier will ever have: it wants to buy big. We would rather you bought 44.22 kg of wax a fortnight than 114.00 kg for a month that may not come. CSI 468's 10 kg bags save 2% a kilo over 1 kg; nothing on the listed catalogue rewards you for buying ahead of your sales.
A fortnightly rhythm is easier as a standing arrangement. Send your wax, scents and fortnightly quantities on WhatsApp and we will quote them and adjust each order to the size you give us. GST invoicing and MSDS or IFRA documents on request; quantities beyond listed packs are quoted there.
Set up fortnightly orders

The rest of the bill moves too

Wicks and jars scale one for one with candles, and they are easy to forget because they are cheap. At 500 a month, a fortnight is about 234 candles; with 3% spares, 241 wicks, which rounds to 2 × 100 + 1 × 50 Eco Candle Wicks Thin C1 for ₹1,475.00. Wick size for your jar is not published; your tested wick carries over. Jars depend on your container and supplier. If your jar supplier has a longer lead time than your wax supplier, the jar reorder point needs its own calculation: two weeks of safety stock for wax, fragrance, wicks and jars sets the floor for each component.

Scents need their own look after growth. Growth is rarely spread evenly: one or two scents usually carry it. Recalculate each scent's reorder point from its own last four weeks. The ten-scent inventory page shows the split, and the fast- and slow-scent page covers slow scents whose line barely moves.

Step-up and step-down rules

Growth planning goes wrong when every decision is a fresh judgement. A few fixed rules, decided in advance, keep you from reacting to one good week or ignoring three bad ones.

1
Every fortnight: recalculate the paceTake the last four complete weeks of candles sold, scale to 30 days. That is the planning pace until the next fortnight.
2
Move the reorder points at onceWax and oil (per scent) reorder points = daily use at the planning pace × (lead days + buffer days). At 500 a month: 44.22 kg of wax.
3
Size the next order at two weeks of the planning paceRounded to real packs: 4 × 10 kg + 4 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g of CSI 468 at 500 a month. Do not add a growth margin; the buffer and the next fortnight handle that.
4
Step up after two fortnights aboveIf two fortnights in a row run more than about 10% above the planning pace, raise the pace. One good fortnight is not a trend.
5
Step down after two fortnights belowIf two fortnights in a row run more than about 10% below, lower the pace and let the shelf run down. Do not cut the buffer.
6
Revisit order rhythm once the level holdsWhen the pace has held for two or three months, monthly orders become reasonable again. The hub page compares order rhythms by cash on the shelf.

Seasons are different from growth. If the rise is October's festive lift, it will reverse after Diwali on 8 November, and the Diwali page plans it as a season with an end date. If your swings are month-to-month noise around a steady level, the safety-stock page sizes the buffer for that. For growth that runs much further, 1,000 to 10,000 a month covers when pack sizes and buying routes change, and the three-month purchasing plan turns a forecast into orders.

Let the sales pull the stock up. Never let the stock push the sales.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. A fast-growing customer is the easiest one to over-sell. This page tells you to order two weeks at a time and not to buy for a trend, because on the listed catalogue buying ahead of sales earns almost nothing and risks stock you cannot use.

Every wax and oil price here comes from live CSI listings pulled on 24 September 2026; wick prices are from the September 2026 wick pull. Paces, reorder points, exposure figures and fortnightly orders are arithmetic on the reader's figures (200 rising to 500 a month) and an example history, shown so you can check them.

The monthly history, 200 g candle, 8% load (CSI 468 has no published ceiling in this data), 3% allowance, 7-day delivery, 7-day buffer, 60/40 scent split and the 10% step rules are working assumptions to replace with your own. CSI does not publish delivery times. For fortnightly standing orders, GST invoicing, MSDS or IFRA documentation, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Frequently asked questions

How much should I increase inventory when candle sales grow?
Raise the reorder point straight away to the new pace; raise the order size step by step. At 500 a month (200 g, 8%), wax reorders at 44.22 kg instead of 17.69 kg, but orders stay at two weeks, 44.22 kg, resized each fortnight.
Should I plan stock on last month's sales or the average?
After growth, on the last four weeks. The three-month average (390 here) is behind the business and leaves you short if the new level holds. The trend (600) assumes growth you have not seen.
How do I avoid overstocking if sales growth stops?
Order two weeks at a time at the current pace and size each order from the previous fortnight's sales. In this example, a fall back to 400 leaves about 167 candles' worth, against 340 if you had bought a month at the trend.
What is the wax reorder point for 500 candles a month?
For 200 g at 8% with a 3% allowance, a 7-day delivery and a 7-day buffer: 44.22 kg. Fragrance across all scents: 3.85 kg, split by scent.
When should I go back to monthly orders?
When the pace has held within about 10% for two or three months. Until then, fortnightly orders let each order follow real sales.
Is it cheaper to buy wax in bigger bags as sales grow?
Slightly, for some waxes. CSI 468 is ₹637.00 a kilo in 5 kg and 10 kg bags against ₹650.00 at 1 kg; Natural Soy Pearl is ₹424.80 from 5 kg against ₹450.00. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks and CSI 464 are flat. Buy the pack that fits the quantity, not a bigger quantity for the pack.
