My Wax Supplier Takes 10 Days to Deliver — At What Stock Level Should I Reorder if I Produce 50 Candles Every Day?

Does 'stock level' mean what is on the shelf? It means shelf plus anything already ordered and not yet arrived. With a 10-day lead, a weekly order means one is usually in transit. Compare the line with shelf + on order, or you will order twice. See counting what is on its way.
Why not just use 50 × 200 g? That gives 10 kg a day and 150.00 kg over 15 days, because it counts the 16 g of fragrance in every candle as wax. It lands only 7.86 kg from the right level here by coincidence, since the 3% loss happens to offset part of it. Build the level from real wax per candle (189.52 g with allowance).
What does a month of wax cost at this rate? About 284.28 kg. In CSI 464: 28 × 10 kg + 4 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g = ₹1,44,361.60. In Natural Soy Pearl: 5 × 50 kg + 3 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg = ₹1,21,068.00. Beyond the listed packs, quoted on WhatsApp.
Fifty candles a day in kilos
Fifty candles a day is a production operation: about 1,500 candles a month, 18,250 a year at a steady pace. At that scale small errors in the per-candle figure become kilos. The title does not state a candle size, so this page uses a 200 g finished candle at an 8% fragrance load, the default across this series; replace it with your own. By the CSI convention the load is a share of the finished weight, so each candle is 16 g of oil and 184 g of wax. Add a 3% allowance for wax left in the melter, the jug and the test pours, a working assumption, and each candle draws 189.52 g.

The reorder level for a 10-day lead
The reorder level has two parts. The first is fixed by your supplier: 10 days × 9.48 kg = 94.76 kg, the wax you will pour while the delivery is on its way. The second is your choice: a buffer for the delivery arriving late or production running heavier than 50 a day. At a long lead time, buffers work best in days rather than kilos, because the risk is time-shaped: a van held up, a public holiday, a payment that took an extra day to clear.

Five days is half the lead time. That is a common working rule for long leads, not a standard: it covers a delivery that arrives on day 15 instead of day 10. If your supplier's record is worse than that, raise the buffer. If you have three months of on-time deliveries and a second supplier you could call, you can trim it. The cost of each extra day is easy to see: one day of wax is 9.48 kg, ₹4,808.12 of CSI 464 at ₹507.40 a kilo.
Production days and calendar days
If you pour 50 candles on six days a week and rest on the seventh, your wax use per calendar day is 9.48 kg × 6 ÷ 7 = 8.12 kg. A 10-calendar-day delivery then covers only about 8.6 production days, and the lead-time wax falls to 81.22 kg. Keep the buffer at five production days and the reorder level becomes 128.60 kg, about 13.54 kg lower than the seven-day figure. It is a real saving, but only if the supplier's 10 days are genuinely calendar days, including your rest day. Ask, and when in doubt use the higher level.

Counting what is on its way
Here is the subtle part of a 10-day lead. Suppose you order a week of wax every Monday: 66.33 kg. Each order takes ten days, so on any given Monday the order you placed last Monday is still on the road. If you compare the reorder level with the shelf alone, the shelf will look low every single day, because part of your stock is in a van. You would order again and again. The fix is to compare the level with your inventory position: wax on the shelf plus wax ordered and not yet received.

The shelf on Monday holds only 75.81 kg, well under the 142.14 kg level, and that is fine: another 66.33 kg is three days out. Add the two and you are exactly at the reorder level, which is the signal to place this week's order. Just before each delivery, the shelf touches the 47.38 kg buffer and never goes below it. If you prefer to order less often, the reorder level does not change; only the order size and the height of the peaks do. Order fortnightly and each order is about two weeks of wax; there may still be an order in transit at times, so the on-order column still matters. Order monthly and the shelf will carry roughly two to five weeks of wax as it cycles. The order in real bags and sacks
At 66.33 kg a week, the pack sizes stop being a detail. Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 and Luxury Soy Wax Chunks are listed up to 10 kg bags; Natural Soy Pearl Wax up to 50 kg sacks. For larger quantities or a standing order the route is a WhatsApp quote: CSI publishes no volume discount, so do not budget for one you have not been quoted. Per kilo, the three are ₹507.40 (CSI 464, flat from 1 to 10 kg), ₹424.80 (Natural Soy Pearl from 5 kg, against ₹450.00 at 1 kg) and ₹599.00–₹599.90 (Chunks). Over a month at this pace the gap between the dearest and cheapest is ₹49,599.00. That is a large number, and it is still not a reason to switch wax without testing. A change of wax is a change of formula: adhesion, frosting, throw and wick size can all move. Natural Soy Pearl has no fragrance ceiling published in this data, so check the product page or ask on WhatsApp before running it at 8%.

Wicks and fragrance at the same pace
The same pace drives every other component, each with its own supplier lead time.
