What is the real argument for consolidating? Not price. Dependency. A candle cannot be poured until every component is on the bench, so the batch waits for the slowest supplier. At a 10% chance of any one supplier slipping, one supplier gives you a 10% chance of a stalled batch and five gives you 41%.
What does CSI actually stock in one order? 15 waxes, 92 fragrance oils, 7 wicks, 80 containers, 25 dyes, 62 moulds, 10 packaging items, 65 accessories, plus tools and equipment.
Where is the range thin? Wicks — 7 products. Packaging carries no published starting price on this page. And most waxes cap at a 10 kg pack, so a high-volume pour still needs a bulk wax source. Those gaps are set out in full below.
What five suppliers actually cost you
Take a small Indian candle business in its second year, pouring 100 candles a month. Wax comes from one place because their soy is good, fragrance from a second because the range is wider, jars from a third because they are cheaper by the crate, wicks from a fourth, labels and boxes from a fifth. Every one of those decisions was correct on its own terms. Added together they are a monthly overhead that never appears on a single invoice.
So count it properly. The unit is fixed admin per supplier per order — the work you do once per supplier regardless of how many lines you buy. Building the basket and checking variants and stock: 15 minutes. Checkout, payment, confirmation: 8 minutes. Tracking, plus the message you send when tracking stops moving: 7 minutes. Receiving, opening and checking against the invoice: 10 minutes. Filing that invoice where your accountant can find it: 5 minutes. Forty-five minutes — the honest floor for a supplier you have used before.

Three hours a month sounds survivable until you write it down as 36 hours a year — four and a half working days spent retyping the same delivery address into a fifth checkout page. At the assumed ₹200 an hour that is ₹7,200. Beside it, four extra freight charges a month is 48 a year; at an illustrative ₹250 each, ₹12,000. Roughly ₹19,200 a year on those two stated assumptions.
Put that against materials. The basket further down consumes ₹16,026.88 per 100-candle month, about ₹192,323 a year. The split-supply-chain overhead is therefore close to 10% of your annual materials budget spent on nothing — no better wax, no better fragrance, no better candle. Overhead of that shape is what quietly eats an early margin, which is the same arithmetic behind what it actually costs to start a candle business in India.
The single-batch dependency, which is the real argument
Money and time can be absorbed. This cannot. A candle is an all-or-nothing assembly. You cannot pour 100 candles with 99% of the materials. Wax without wicks is a pot of wax. Fragrance that arrives the day you finish pouring is fragrance for next month. There is no partial credit, because the missing item is not a nice-to-have — it is a component.
This is why supplier count matters more than it looks. Suppose any one supplier has a 10% chance of being late, short-shipping or sending the wrong variant — roughly one slip in ten orders, which most makers would call a good supplier. With one supplier, the chance your batch is held up is that same 10%. With five independent suppliers, the chance that at least one slips is 1 − 0.9⁵ = 41%. You have quietly built a business in which two months in five start late.

Read down the 10% column to however many suppliers your last batch depended on. If that was five, your realistic exposure is 41% per batch. Cut to two and you are at 19%; cut to one and you are at 10%. You have halved the risk twice without improving a single supplier. That is the whole argument for consolidation, and it is stronger than any price claim, because a price claim can be beaten next week and this cannot.
And the cost of a stall is not the cost of the missing item. If wicks arrive four days late you have not lost ₹944 of wicks — you have lost four days off the front of a cure schedule, and a soy container candle wants 14 to 21 days before it is at its best. That window does not compress for money. Working back from Diwali on 8 November 2026: stock in customers' hands in the last week of October means pouring in the first days of October, which means everything on the bench by late September. One order also carries the equipment: pen thermometer ₹354, weighing scale ₹354, 600 ml steel pouring pitcher ₹708, CSI Pro Mixer ₹349, bamboo stirring sticks ₹118 for five — ₹1,883 for the whole bench, once — through to a 1 litre wax melter at ₹2,360 and a 20 litre melter at ₹23,600. A ₹118 pack of stirrers and a ₹23,600 melter on one invoice is what a one-stop shop is for.
So, the gaps, plainly. The first is wicks. Seven products against ninety-two fragrance oils is not a balanced catalogue, and it is where a growing maker is most likely to need something CSI does not carry. If your recipe is built on a specific numbered series you have already tested, that exact code is not here. The second gap is packaging. Ten products, and no starting price for any of them on this page, because the September pricing pull behind this article does not cover that collection and an unverified number would undermine every other figure here. Ten SKUs is also thin for a brand building its own retail packaging — you will be buying mailers, cartons and printed labels elsewhere regardless. The next section explains why that is often correct.
The third gap is pack depth. Most CSI waxes stop at 10 kg: CSI 464 at ₹5,074/10 kg, Luxury Soy Chunks at ₹5,999/10 kg, Coconut Soy CSI 468 at ₹6,370/10 kg; Eco Soy CSI 400 stops at 5 kg. Only Natural Soy Pearl Wax reaches a 50 kg pack, at ₹21,240 (₹424.80/kg). At 100 candles a month that ceiling is invisible. At 1,000 you are buying fifteen separate 10 kg packs and paying to handle them. The concrete version: one month, 100 candles, every category, one checkout. ₹17,700.16 is cash out of the door; it is not the cost of 100 candles. You will not consume 15 kg of wax pouring 13.8 kg, you will not finish 15 ml of concentrated dye in a month, the care roll holds 500 stickers and you used 100, and the mould is a tool. When splitting is the right answer, and how to send one order
Consolidation is a default, not a religion. Three situations make buying elsewhere straightforwardly the better commercial decision, and pretending otherwise would make the rest of this page less useful.
A fourth case, named honestly: if you have already standardised on a wick series CSI does not carry, keep buying it. Re-testing a wick across your whole range to consolidate a ₹944 line is a bad trade — weeks of burn tests to save four freight charges a year. Same for a signature fragrance a bestseller is built on: if it is not in the 92, you buy it where it lives.
