CSI Corporate Orders · No Advance Yet
The client wants 1,000 candles in their colour but has not paid. Buy the samples now, standard stock only if you would use it anyway, and nothing client-specific until written approval and an advance cover it.
₹2,336.40
the only spend before the advance: the sample kit for 1,000 custom-colour candles · CSI live pricing, October 2026
Quick answers — read this first
No advance yet: should I buy oil, jars and custom materials for 1,000 custom-colour candles? No, not the custom ones. Buy the samples now (₹2,336.40 at CSI prices), because the colour has to be approved in wax anyway. Buy standard, reusable stock early only if your own range would use it regardless. Buy nothing client-specific (the custom-colour dye volume, an unusual oil, coloured or custom jars, printed sleeves or boxes) until you have written approval and an advance that covers it.

How much is at stake? In the worked order the full material list is ₹2,08,523.00 (₹1,90,163.00 at CSI prices plus ₹18,360.00 of your printed sleeves). Bought with no advance and then cancelled, ₹19,496.00 is lost outright and the rest is stock you carry for months. Had the client chosen an unusual oil and coloured jars, the lost part would be ₹2,09,208.00.

Doesn’t buying early save time? Less than it feels: in the worked plan, buying everything today delivers on day 30; buying after approval and the advance delivers on day 35. Early buying buys 5 days, the material lead time, and nothing else: the colour sample still needs its pour, cure and decision.

What is the minimum advance? Enough to cover the samples and every client-specific line before you buy them: ₹21,832.40 in the worked order. How much more to ask is 6363; the working capital the whole order needs is 6365.
The short answer
The ladder: 1 samples (buy now) → 2 standard reusable stock (only what you would use anyway) → 3 a common oil (after a written order) → 4 client-specific materials (after approval and an advance) → 5 poured custom candles (never on speculation).
Your order: 1,000 candles in a custom colour, worked as 160 g at 8% in clear Salsa; 1,058 pours; ₹1,90,163.00 of CSI materials (₹190.16 a candle) + ₹18,360.00 of printed sleeves.
The settling numbers: exposure without an advance ₹2,336.40 if you buy samples only, ₹19,496.00 lost if you buy everything; advance floor ₹21,832.40; early buying saves 5 days.
The decision rule: written approval + advance ≥ client-specific lines → buy them; no advance → samples and only the standard stock you would use anyway; a date that cannot wait for the advance → move the date, not the risk.
No advance yet: the material risk ladder 1,000 custom-colour candles, worked at CSI prices on 7 October 2026. Higher step = harder to use if the order dies. 1 · Samples ₹2,336.40 now: your cost or a sample fee 2 · Standard stock ₹1,46,783.00 only what your own range uses anyway 3 · A common oil ₹42,244.00 after a written order (PO) 4 · Client-specific ₹19,496.00 after approval and an advance covering it 5 · Poured candles custom colour after approval and advance only ← reusable if the order dies sunk if the order dies → Step 4 here = Blue and Black dye ₹1,136.00 + your printed sleeves ₹18,360.00. With an unusual oil (Gilli Mitti) and coloured jars, step 4 would be ₹2,09,208.00. Advance floor before step 4 = samples + client-specific lines = ₹21,832.40. How much more to ask for is a separate decision (6363).
Five classes of material, from the ones you can always use to the ones nobody else will buy. The higher the step, the more of it is lost if the client never pays the advance, and the stronger the case for buying it only after written approval and an advance that covers it.
Straight answer
The client wants 1,000 custom-colour candles but has not paid an advance — should I buy fragrance oil, jars and custom materials before approval?
Buy the samples, not the order. The custom colour must be approved in wax, cured, in daylight, so a small sample kit (₹2,336.40 at CSI prices in the worked order) is money you spend either way; spend it now, at your cost or against a sample fee credited to the order. Standard, reusable stock (wax, wicks, clear jars, plain boxes) can be bought early only to the extent your own range would use it regardless; the CSI 464 wax in this order costs the same per kilo from 1 kg to 10 kg and Eco C2 wicks the same per wick in any pack, so there is no price to lock in by buying early. A common oil you already sell can follow a written order. Everything client-specific, which here means the custom-colour dye volume and the printed sleeves, and in other orders an unusual oil, coloured or custom jars and printed boxes, waits for written approval and an advance that at least covers it: ₹21,832.40 in the worked order. Buying everything now would put ₹2,08,523.00 out before a rupee comes in and save only 5 days. If the client’s date cannot wait for the advance, renegotiate the date or the scope; do not move the risk onto your own cash.
One line: samples now, standard stock only if you would use it anyway, client-specific materials only after approval and an advance that covers them.
The sample kit, before any advance: Eucalyptus Spearmint 100 g ₹354.00, Blue 15 gm and Black 15 ml dye (₹236.00 each), two 5-packs of clear Salsa (₹401.20), CSI 464 2 × 1 kg (₹1,014.80), Eco C2 10 (₹94.40): ₹2,336.40. All in stock on 7 October 2026.

The order and the missing advance, as numbers

A verbal yes from a corporate buyer feels like an order. It is not one yet.

Your figures, from the title: 1,000 candles, in a custom colour, with no advance paid. The rest is a worked example: the client’s navy brand colour, the clear 200ml Salsa jar filled to a worked 160 g (a 200 ml jar does not hold 200 g of wax; confirm the fill by a weighed test pour), 8% Eucalyptus Spearmint (12.8 g of oil and 147.2 g of wax each, load as a share of total weight) in Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464, Eco C2 wicks, plain corrugated boxes and a printed sleeve from your printer. Fifteen extras (five client samples, five retains, five QC burn candles) and a 4% loss buffer make 1,058 pours. Your quote is ₹450.00 a candle (₹4,50,000.00); the client wants delivery in 35 days.

This page is the hub for the cluster on corporate orders, advances and commercial risk. It owns the first question every one of those posts assumes has been answered: what do you buy while the money has not arrived? The map at the end gives one line for each of the nineteen posts that take a part of it further.

The material risk ladder

The question is not "should I buy?" It is "what happens to this if the order dies?"

Sort every line of the BOM by one test: if the client never pays, can you use it, and how soon? That gives five steps. The lower steps can move early; the upper ones wait for paper and money.

The material risk ladder · when each class may be bought
Practical judgement, not legal or financial advice · CSI prices on 7 October 2026
Step What is in it (worked order) If the order dies Buy when
1 · Samples 100 g oil, 15 g/ml dyes, 10 jars, 2 kg wax, 10 wicks: ₹2,336.40 spent, but small now, at your cost or a credited sample fee
2 · Standard reusable stock wax, wicks, clear jars, plain boxes, care stickers: ₹1,46,783.00 used in your own range over months (wax about 5.3, jars about 5.4) only the part your normal sales would use anyway; the rest after a written order
3 · A common oil you already sell Eucalyptus Spearmint 13.7 kg: ₹42,244.00 used over about 9.1 months at your rate after a written order; if you do not sell it, it is step 4
4 · Client-specific materials custom-colour dye ₹1,136.00 + printed sleeves ₹18,360.00 sunk only after written approval and an advance that covers them
5 · Poured candles in the custom colour materials plus labour, in this client’s colour sunk, and labour lost after approval and advance; never on speculation

Why step 2 is "only what you would use anyway"

Standard stock is reusable, but reusable is not free. 158 kg of wax at your normal 30 kg a month (a worked rate) is about 5.3 months of stock; 1,080 jars at 200 a month is about 5.4. That is cash on a shelf, and its cost is real (pricing it is 6366). So the rule is not "buy reusable items early"; it is "buy early only the part your normal sales would have bought anyway." The rest waits for the written order. Which materials count as reusable for you, and which are client-specific risk, is classified in detail in 6379.

Argued against our own interest: we sell every item on steps 1 to 4, and a maker who buys 158 kg of wax and 1,080 jars today is a good day for us. But CSI 464 costs ₹507.40 a kilo in a 10 kg bag and ₹507.40 in a 1 kg bag, and C2 costs ₹9.44 a wick in a 10-pack or a 1,000-pack. There is no bulk price to lock in by buying before the advance. Wait for the money.

Why the custom colour is step 4, even though dye is cheap

The two dye bottles for the whole order cost ₹1,136.00. The risk is not the bottle: it is every kilo of wax the dye goes into and every candle poured from it, because a navy candle with a client’s sleeve has one buyer. Dye the wax only after approval and the advance. And check the colour is achievable first: on 7 October 2026 CSI’s Green and Yellow liquid dyes are out of stock, so a brand colour that needs them cannot be mixed from our liquid dyes this week. Ask on WhatsApp before you promise a shade.

The worked exposure: three ways to wait

Exposure is what you lose if the client goes quiet, not what you spend.
Three ways to wait for the advance · worked exposure
1,000 candles · CSI materials ₹1,90,163.00 + your printed sleeves ₹18,360.00 · reusable stock counted as recoverable over months, not lost
Strategy Cash out before the advance Sunk if the client walks away Delivery day
A · Buy everything now ₹2,08,523.00 ₹19,496.00 (dye + sleeves) + months of tied-up stock day 30
B · Samples + standard stock now ₹1,49,119.40 ₹2,336.40 (samples) + months of tied-up stock day 30 if stock covers the order
C · Samples only (recommended) ₹2,336.40 ₹2,336.40 day 35
A, if the client had chosen Gilli Mitti and Purple jars ₹3,23,812.40 ₹2,09,208.00 day 30

Read the table from the client walking away. Under strategy A you have spent ₹2,08,523.00; ₹19,496.00 of it (the dye in use and the printed sleeves) is lost outright, and ₹1,46,783.00 of standard stock plus ₹42,244.00 of oil sit on your shelf until your own range uses them. Under B the outright loss is only the samples, but over ₹1,49,119.40 of cash is tied up for months. Under C the most you lose is the sample kit, ₹2,336.40. The last row shows why specification matters as much as timing: had the client chosen Gilli Mitti and purple jars, the client-specific part alone would be ₹2,09,208.00.

CSI total ₹1,90,163.00 ₹190.16 a candle
Printed sleeves (your printer) 1,020 your printer ₹18,360.00 client-specific

The materials are only part of the exposure. Your hours on samples, the printer’s setup charge, and any finished candles also fall on you if the order dies; what happens to the whole investment after a cancellation is 6378.

Mistake: ordering the printed sleeves "because the printer needs ten days" before the client has approved the colour or paid. Why it fails: sleeves carry the client’s name and colour; if the order dies or the colour changes, all ₹18,360.00 is lost, and it was the one line that bought no time, because the colour approval was always going to take longer than the print. Fix: send the artwork for proofing now (no cost to print), and release the print run with the advance.

What buying early really buys

Early buying buys the material lead time. Nothing else.

The temptation is the date. So count it. The colour sample round takes 9 days whatever you buy (pour, a 4-day cure, courier, client decision). After approval and the advance, bulk materials take 5 days to arrive (a worked figure; we do not publish dispatch or transit times, so confirm on WhatsApp), production takes 14 days at 80 pours a day, then cure, QC, packing and delivery take 7.

Capacity and calendar · worked plan
Day 0 = today, Wednesday 7 October 2026 · cure and burn tests are calendar time, not labour
Step Buy after advance Buy everything today
Colour sample round (pour, cure, courier, decision) days 0–9 days 0–9
Bulk materials arrive days 9–14 already in, day 5
Production, 1,058 pours at 80 a day 14 days, to day 28 14 days, to day 23
Cure, QC and packing, delivery 7 days 7 days
Delivery day 35 day 30

The decision rule, with the settling numbers. Buying everything today saves 5 days and puts ₹2,08,523.00 at risk before the client has paid. Against a 35-day request, the after-advance plan needs approval and the advance by day 9 (Friday 16 October 2026) to deliver on Wednesday 11 November 2026. Put that date in the quote: "delivery 26 days after colour approval and the advance; for delivery by Wednesday 11 November 2026, both by Friday 16 October 2026". If the client cannot pay by then, the date moves, or the scope changes (a first tranche in your standard colour from a proven formula, for instance). What must not move to save those days: the colour approval on a cured candle, the burn test of the coloured candle with its wick, and the cure before QC.

Get most of the five days without buying
Send us the purchase sheet on WhatsApp today and ask us to confirm stock and dispatch timing. You still buy after the advance, but you quote the date knowing whether the materials are there. We cannot reserve stock or promise a dispatch date in advance; we can tell you what we see.

Getting from verbal yes to a paid order

The client is not refusing to pay. Usually nobody has asked them properly.
1
Send a written quote with the ladder in itQuantity, price, the sample stage, and the line: "Client-specific materials (custom-colour dye, printed sleeves) are ordered after written colour approval and an advance of at least ₹21,832.40."
2
Offer samples against a credited feeThe sample kit costs ₹2,336.40 in CSI materials plus your time; a sample fee credited against the order turns a verbal yes into a first payment.
3
Ask for a purchase orderCorporate buyers usually issue POs. A PO with quantity, price, delivery date and payment terms is your written order; the reserve-not-buy logic for verbal confirmations is in 6362.
4
Tie the date to the advance"Delivery 26 days after colour approval and advance." Every day the advance is late, delivery is a day late.
5
Release purchases rung by rungStandard stock at the PO (if not already in your range), the common oil at the PO, client-specific lines at approval plus advance, pouring after both.
6
Write down what a cancellation costsSamples and client-specific materials bought are charged; standard stock is not. Practical judgement, not legal advice.
Commercial protection (practical judgement, not legal advice): the advance should at least cover the samples and every client-specific material before you buy them (₹21,832.40 here); whether it should cover more, and how much, is 6363 and the non-reusable rule in full is 6364. If payment terms after delivery are long, the cash the order needs is 6365; if the client may cut the quantity, buy to the committed minimum (6367); and before you agree any of it, score the whole order’s risk (6380).
This page is for you if a client has said yes to a custom order but not paid, and you are deciding what to buy. Read elsewhere if you only have a verbal yes and no written order (6362), you are deciding the advance percentage (6363), or the client has cancelled after you bought (6378).

The materials on the ladder

A common oil and an unusual one, the dyes, the clear jar and its coloured twin, and the wax. They are here for their place on the ladder, not ranked on performance; CSI publishes no burn or throw data.

1
fragrance oil · a common oil, low risk if you already sell it
Eucalyptus Spearmint Fragrance Oil
The page describes it as "combining crisp eucalyptus with cool spearmint", states "Recommended fragrance load up to 10% for soy wax", gives a 48–72 hour cure for soy, and says "No vanillin - zero risk of discoloration" (the page’s claim; test anyway). For a custom-colour order that matters: an oil that leaves wax near its natural colour lets the dye do the work. At ₹3.07 a gram for the kilo it is one of CSI’s lower-priced candle oils, and if your range already sells it, 13.7 kg is stock you will use; if it does not, treat it as client-specific.
Size Price Per gram When
15 g ₹68.44 ₹4.56
50 g ₹212.40 ₹4.25
100 g ₹354.00 ₹3.54 sample kit now; 2 more after the PO
500 g ₹1,652.00 ₹3.30 1 after the PO
1 kg ₹3,068.00 ₹3.07 13 after the PO
2
fragrance oil · the unusual oil, high risk without an advance
Gilli Mitti (Patchouli)
For contrast. The page describes "fresh rain, soft soil, natural patchouli, damp woods, and light musk" and states "The recommended fragrance load is 6-10% for candles". It is priced flat at ₹8.96 a gram from 50 g to 1 kg, so the same 13.7 kg would cost ₹1,22,752.00, ₹80,508.00 more than Eucalyptus Spearmint, and no pack size lowers that. If a client chooses an oil like this and you do not sell it, the whole line is client-specific: buy it only against an advance that covers it.
Size Price Per gram When
15 g ₹140.00 ₹9.33
50 g ₹448.00 ₹8.96
100 g ₹896.00 ₹8.96 sample only, unless chosen

3
dye · the custom colour itself
Candle Dye Liquid (Blue and Black)
A navy brand colour from Blue with a touch of Black, both in stock on 7 October 2026; Green and Yellow liquid dyes are out of stock on that date, so a brand colour that needs them cannot be mixed from CSI liquid dyes today (ask on WhatsApp). No CSI dye page states a dosage; the worked 0.5 g per kg of wax gives 78.65 g for the order. The bottles are cheap (₹1,136.00); the risk is the dyed wax and candles, which nobody else will buy in this client’s colour.

jar · standard, reusable stock
200ml Salsa Glass Jar with 63mm Lug Cap (Golden Lid)
Clear glass with a golden lug cap, ₹29.50 a jar in 50s and 100s. Because the colour is in the wax, a clear jar stays reusable stock: if the order dies, it goes into your own range. The page states 200 ml and no grams, so the 160 g fill is a worked figure confirmed by a weighed test pour. Exactly 1,080 jars as 10 × 100 + 50 + 6 × 5 (₹32,178.60) cost less than 11 × 100 (₹32,450.00).

5
jar · the same jar in colour, client-specific for most makers
200ml Salsa Purple Glass Jar with 63mm Lug Cap (Golden Lid)
If the client wanted the colour in the glass instead of the wax, the coloured Salsa jars are ₹62.00 each at every pack size, so 1,080 cost ₹66,960.00, ₹34,781.40 more than clear. The page says "Pairs well with C2 Eco Wicks" (one bracket rung, not a rule). Unless purple is already in your range, a thousand of them is client-specific stock.
Pack Price Per jar When
Pack of 5 ₹310.00 ₹62.00 sample
Pack of 50 ₹3,100.00 ₹62.00
Pack of 100 ₹6,200.00 ₹62.00 only after an advance covering them

wax · flat per kilo, so waiting costs nothing
Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464
The page states fragrance load "up to 10%" and a pour temperature of 80°C–90°C. It is flat at ₹507.40 a kilo from 1 kg to 10 kg, which is the honest reason not to buy 158 kg before the advance: there is no bulk price to lock in by buying early, and 10 kg bags bought later cost the same per kilo as today.
Size Price Per kg When

The CSI principle
Spend on samples before the advance. Spend on the order after it.
Standard stock only if you would use it anyway; client-specific materials only after written approval and an advance that covers them; and a date that moves with the advance.
"An advance is not a sign of distrust. It is the client buying their own colour."

Why trust this guide

CandleMakingSuppliesIndia sells the wax, oils, dyes, jars, wicks and boxes on this ladder and does not sell finished candles or printed packaging. This page still tells you to buy only a sample kit before the advance, points out that the wax and wicks in this order cost the same per unit from 1 kg and from the smallest pack, and says plainly that two of our liquid dye colours are out of stock.

Every CSI price was checked on the live store on 7 October 2026; every pack offered is in stock on that date, and the Green, Yellow and second-listing Black liquid dyes and the Eco C1 10-pack, which are out, are not offered. CSI does not publish dispatch or transit times, stock depth or lot continuity, and cannot reserve stock for an unpaid order: confirm on WhatsApp.

The 1,000 candles, the custom colour and the missing advance are your figures. The fill, load, extras, buffers, dye dose, sleeve price, use rates, pouring rate, quote and calendar are labelled worked examples; prices and page wording are data. This is practical judgement, not legal or financial advice. For bulk pricing, stock confirmation, GST invoicing, and MSDS and IFRA documentation on request, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Frequently asked questions

Should I buy candle materials before the client pays an advance?
Only the samples, and standard stock your own range would use anyway. Client-specific materials (custom-colour dye volume, unusual oils, coloured or custom jars, printed packaging) wait for written approval and an advance that covers them: ₹21,832.40 in the worked 1,000-candle order.
What counts as a client-specific raw material for a candle order?
Anything you could not sell or use if the order died: a custom colour once it is in wax, an oil you do not otherwise sell, jars in a colour or shape outside your range, and anything printed with the client’s name or branding.
Does buying candle materials early save time on a corporate order?
Only the material lead time. In the worked plan, buying everything today delivers on day 30 instead of day 35: 5 days, because the colour sample still needs its pour, cure and approval.
How much advance should I take for a custom candle order?
At least enough to cover samples and every client-specific material before you buy them (₹21,832.40 here). Many makers ask for more; how much is a separate decision, covered in 6363.
Can a supplier hold stock for my order until the client pays?
Ask, but do not plan on it. CSI cannot reserve stock or promise dispatch dates for an unpaid order; we can confirm what is in stock today so you can quote a realistic date.
Is it safe to buy wax and jars early because they are reusable?
Safer than custom items, but only for the part your range would use anyway. Reusable stock still ties up cash for months: 158 kg of wax is about 5.3 months at a worked 30 kg a month.
No advance yet
Buy the samples now. Buy the order after the advance.
For the worked 1,000-candle order: sample kit ₹2,336.40; advance floor ₹21,832.40; full materials ₹2,08,523.00; buying early saves 5 days and risks ₹19,496.00 outright. Start with the dyes and a 100 g oil.

About this guide: the hub page for CSI's cluster "Corporate orders, advances and commercial risk" (6361–6380) in the series on bulk corporate and wedding candle orders × raw materials. It covers what to buy before a client pays an advance on a 1,000-candle custom-colour order: the material risk ladder, the worked exposure under three buying strategies, what early buying really saves, the advance floor, getting to a paid order, and a cluster map.
