The audit: every material class, smallest pack to largest

The whole exercise in one table. For each line we took the smallest pack CSI sells, worked out the price per kilogram, gram, wick or jar, did the same for the largest, and subtracted. Nothing is estimated: every figure is a listed variant price divided by its stated quantity, from live stock on 10 September 2026. Out-of-stock variants are excluded, because a price you cannot buy at is not a price.

Read the right-hand column first. Eleven of the twenty-seven lines are exactly 0.0% — the same price per unit at the top of the pack list as at the bottom. Two more are negative: the largest pack is dearer. Five sit between 0% and 5%, which on a real order is noise you will not notice. That leaves five lines that fall by 15% or more, two smaller genuine breaks, and two lines whose apparent saving is not a bulk discount at all.

The six lines where buying up genuinely pays

These are worth acting on precisely because they are exceptions. Note what they share: every one is a consumable you will get through, and in every case the break arrives at a pack size a working candle business can clear in a quarter. None of them requires a 50kg position.

The flat majority — and the bag that goes backwards

Across wicks, matte and frosted glass, votives, 150g lidded jars, wax melt containers, steel wick holders, Soy Pillar Wax, beeswax and Eco Soy CSI 400, the price per unit is identical at every pack size CSI lists. Matte jars are ₹70.80 each at five and at ten. The 150g Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid is ₹94.40 each at ten and at twenty. Wax Melts Containers hold ₹29.50 from a pack of 5 to a pack of 100 — a twentyfold increase in quantity for zero change in price. Buying the biggest pack buys you one thing: more of it in your workshop.

The one line that is actively dearer in bulk

Luxury Soy Wax Chunks is the store's flagship container wax and its likeliest bulk purchase. It is also the one line where the biggest bag costs more per kilogram. The 500g pack is ₹299 — ₹598.00/kg. The 1kg at ₹599 and the 5kg at ₹2,995 are both ₹599.00/kg. The 10kg bag is ₹5,999: ₹599.90/kg.

Nineteen rupees on ten kilos is rounding on a ₹5,999 line, almost certainly an artefact of pricing each variant to a round number rather than a deliberate penalty. But it does mean the 10kg bag is not a discount. Choose it for one-bag handling, not for price. A genuinely cheaper container wax per kilogram is CSI 464 at ₹507.40/kg or Eco Soy CSI 400 at ₹399.00/kg — a different wax, not a different pack size. Verify it against your own pour first.

A straight answer rather than a marketing one: on Soy Pillar Wax there is no bulk discount to give. It is ₹600/kg at 500g, 1kg, 5kg and 10kg, because the 500g pack already sells at the 10kg rate. No retail margin is being held back from you at scale. Where breaks do exist they are published on the variant selector — the 30% on wooden wicks is printed in the pack name, the 26.5% on the Salsa jar appears when you open the size dropdown — so nobody has to ask. Large single orders that change how a shipment is packed are a WhatsApp conversation, and mostly a freight one. That distinction is the next section.

Where wholesale saves money even when the unit price is flat

Everything above argues against buying big. This is the counter-argument, and it is a good one — just not the one the word "wholesale" implies. Consolidating still saves real money, in three places, none of them the unit price.

Manasa is not alone. Mahak agarwal left five stars on Soy Pillar Wax in September 2024 and ended with "And yes their shipment charges were too higb for me! Other wise the quality is top noch". Two customers, two years apart, both happy with the product and both flagging the same cost. Both are at the top of this page rather than six friendlier reviews, because on a page about wholesale economics they are the most relevant in the bank.

What consolidation is actually worth, priced out

A real basket, run both ways: 100 candles a month at a 150g fill and an 8% load, in 200ml Salsa jars with Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1), Natural Soy Pearl Wax, Citrus Lemon Fragrance Oil, one liquid dye and care stickers. Quantities are rounded up to purchasable packs.

Three-tenths of one percent, and every rupee of it comes from one sticker roll. The whole commercial case for consolidating that order rests on two delivery charges, not on the price of anything in it. Which is fine — two delivery charges on a heavy, part-glass shipment is a meaningful sum, and it is the sum Manasa and Mahak were both pointing at. Just be clear which lever you are pulling, because it decides the next question: how big should the order be?

What a large order parks in stock, and the 8–10 week rule

Same basket. Ordered monthly it is ₹14,057 leaving your account at a time. Ordered quarterly it is ₹42,044, and the extra ₹27,987 is not a purchase — it is a position. It sits in your workshop as forty-five kilos of wax, three hundred jars and three kilos of one fragrance, and it does not become money again until those candles are poured, cured, sold and paid for. For a business turning over a few lakhs a year that is manageable. For a business three months old it is most of the float. This is the calculation "wholesale" marketing skips, and it is the one that decides order size — not a percentage, but how long the money is asleep. The rule bends two ways. Buy deeper where the audit found a real break and the material does not date: wooden wicks, Salsa jars and Mini Glass Jars are glass and timber, and a hundred of each is a sane quarter. Buy shallower on anything you are still testing. A fragrance you have poured twice is not one to own a kilogram of, whatever the per-gram figure says — at a 3.3% median saving the kilogram is not paying you enough to carry the risk. Work out your actual monthly oil consumption first.
