Why the oil bottle, not the wax bag, sets your melt price
Trade buyers instinctively chase the cheapest wax per kilogram. In melts, that is the smaller lever. The oil costs several times more per kilogram than any wax on the list, and at melt loads you use a lot of it. Your wholesale margin is decided at the fragrance shelf.
The swing between oils
Compare 1 kg bottles. Citrus Lemon is ₹2,832.00, Jasmine ₹3,923.00, Lavender ₹5,221.00 and Dark Vanilla ₹7,646.00. The most expensive of those costs well over twice the cheapest. Now compare waxes: Soy Pillar Wax is ₹600.00 per kilogram and Luxury Soy Wax Chunks ₹599.00. The gap between those two waxes is a single rupee. Choosing one oil over another moves your cost per melt far more than any wax decision will.
That does not mean selling only cheap scents. It means pricing each scent on its own, rather than one price for the whole range, or accepting a thinner margin on your dearest oils.
Buy oil in the size that fits your sales
Lavender's 1 kg bottle at ₹5,221.00 costs less than ten 100 g bottles at ₹540.00 each would. Move a scent to 1 kg once it has proved it sells, and keep new or slow scents in 100 g bottles until they do.
Wax: small savings, read carefully
On Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, the 500 g pack is cheapest per kilogram at ₹598.00, and the 10 kg bag at ₹5,999.00 costs ₹9 more than two 5 kg bags. Tiny amounts, but a wholesale buyer should know them. Natural Soy Pearl Wax drops to ₹424.80 per kilogram at 5 kg and above and is the only wax with a 50 kg pack, but it is a container wax and publishes no fragrance load. Trial it for melts before letting the price decide.
Cutting the load to protect margin. A melt at a lower load than its competitors disappoints in the warmer, and that costs repeat orders. If a scent does not pay at the load it needs, raise its price or drop it.
Price bands for trade customers
If you sell to shops, band your scents by oil cost and quote a price per band. It is simpler for buyers and protects you from selling a Dark Vanilla melt at a Citrus Lemon price.
