For silicone and decorative moulds, use a firm wax that releases cleanly: Soy Pillar Wax (hardened with 3–5% microcrystalline for detail), paraffin for bright colour, or beeswax for a natural look.

Tearing, pitting and ghost lines: silicone mould faults and their fixes

Silicone flexes, so it releases shapes a rigid mould never could. It also shows every fault in fine detail: petals, faces, lettering, bubble textures. Most silicone problems come from timing and technique rather than the wax itself. Here are the ones that come up most, with the fix for each.

Detail tears off on release. The candle came out before it had set right through, or the wax is too soft for thin projections. Wait longer before demoulding, and peel the silicone back from the candle rather than pushing the candle out. If thin parts still break, add microcrystalline in the stated 1–5% hardening range and test again.
Tiny pits and bubbles in fine detail. Air is trapped in the deepest recesses. Pour slowly down one side, tap the mould gently on the bench after pouring, and on detailed moulds brush a thin first layer of wax into the recesses before the main pour.
A white bloom on soy surfaces. That is frosting, which soy does naturally and which is cosmetic. It shows most on dark colours and busy textures. If a crisp, glossy surface is essential for the design, paraffin will give you that more readily than soy.
Ghost lines along the seam. Wax crept into the mould's cut line. Band the mould firmly all round before pouring, and trim the line with a warm blade once the candle is out.
The mould no longer releases cleanly. Silicone wears with heat and fragrance oil over many pours. Wash it in warm soapy water, dry it fully, and retire it when the inner surface turns dull or tacky.

Wicking a silicone mould

Pierce the wick hole in the base of the mould with a needle, thread the wick through, and hold it centred at the top. Most silicone moulds shape the top of the candle at the bottom of the mould, so the wick hole sits in the design. Check the wick sits dead centre before you pour; you cannot move it afterwards.

A detail test worth doing

Pour the finest-detail mould you own twice: once in plain Soy Pillar Wax and once with 3% microcrystalline, which is 30 g per kilogram of wax. Photograph both close up. If the plain soy holds every edge, skip the additive. If only the micro version does, you have your recipe, and a 500 g slab at ₹149.00 covers more than 16 kg of wax at that rate.

Displayed, not burned
Many silicone-mould pieces are bought as décor. Keep the fragrance modest, and tell buyers if the design will not burn evenly.

Argue against interest
Buy the wax your candle needs, not the bag that looks professional.
We would sell more by telling you to buy 10 kg. On most of our waxes it is not cheaper per kilogram, and wax you cannot use before summer is a storage problem.
Price the candle, not the kilogram.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. We publish every pack price, so every per-kilogram and per-candle figure here can be checked against the product pages — including the ones that show a bigger bag is not cheaper.

Prices are taken from live CSI stock in September 2026. Where a product page does not publish a specification, this guide says so rather than filling the gap.

Assumptions: Fragrance load 8% of total candle weight, so wax is 92% of the fill (a 200 g candle = 184 g wax + 16 g oil). Order plans add a 5% wastage allowance (10% where stated for festive buffers). "Cheapest listed packs" is the lowest-cost combination of listed pack sizes, preferring fewer bags when prices tie within a few rupees. Candle counts are rounded down. Costs are core materials only and exclude jar, label, packaging, labour, freight and GST unless stated. Wax stated fragrance maximums are the wax maker's formulation limits, not regulatory limits. Pack sizes not listed on the store (2, 20, 25, 100 kg) are shown as combinations of listed packs; larger quantities are quoted on WhatsApp. Diwali 2026 falls on 8 November.
