Candle Business Guides · Professional Production
Most small candle businesses can start selling with about ₹4,200 of equipment and grow into the rest. This guide costs three example builds from live CSI stock, shows what each one costs per candle at different volumes, and names what not to buy yet.
₹4,169.82
Build A, the example start-selling bench built around a 1 L mini melter · Build B ₹9,252.82 · Build C ₹34,880.82 with the 10 kg melter · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
How much does candle making equipment cost for a small business? In three example builds from the CSI range: Build A ₹4,169.82 to start selling, Build B ₹9,252.82 for regular stock in two scents per session, and Build C ₹34,880.82 for batch production on a 10 kg melter. Each build keeps everything the previous one bought.

What is the minimum to start selling? Build A: the 1 litre Mini Electric Wax Melter ₹2,360, a weighing scale ₹354, a pen thermometer ₹354, a silicone spatula ₹175.82, a pouring jug ₹531, a pack of five wick centering devices ₹118, 40 wick stickers ₹100 and a wick cutter ₹177.

When does a small business need the 10 kg melter? When your sessions regularly need kilos of wax at once. A full 10 kg melt is enough wax for about 54 × 200g candles; the Electric Wax Melter is ₹21,240 for 10 kg.

Do I need a candle-making machine? CSI lists no automated moulding, filling or wicking machine. For a small business, the melter is the machine; the rest is tools.
The short answer
Buy for the stage you are in: the build that matches your pouring sessions today, not the one you hope to need in a year.
Grow without waste: every tool in Build A is still used in Build C — the minis become test and small-scent melters when the 10 kg arrives.
Equipment is small per candle at the right volume: ₹6.95 for Build A at 50 candles a month over a year, ₹3.63 for Build C at 800. The wrong build is what gets expensive — Build C at 50 a month is ₹58.13 a candle.
Three example builds — each one keeps everything the last one bought Build A · start selling ₹4,169.82 · mini melter + 7 tools Build B · regular stock ₹9,252.82 · + ₹5,083 Build C · batch production ₹34,880.82 · + ₹25,628: 10 kg melter, funnel, 50 holders Bought in Build A Added in Build B Added in Build C
Bar length is the cumulative build cost. Build B adds ₹5,083 to Build A; Build C adds ₹25,628 to Build B, and ₹21,240 of that is the 10 kg Electric Wax Melter — 60.89% of the whole Build C bench in one line.
Straight answer
What candle making equipment does a small business in India actually need, and how much should it spend?
Spend on the build that matches your pouring sessions now, and add to it as orders prove the need. Build A (₹4,169.82) is enough to start selling: a 1 litre Mini Electric Wax Melter (₹2,360, with 300W and 600W modes and a 1-year warranty in its title), a weighing scale and pen thermometer (₹354 each), a silicone spatula, a pouring jug, wick centering devices, stickers and a cutter. Build B (₹9,252.82) adds a second mini melter so two scents melt at once, the CSI Pro Mixer, a 600 ml steel pitcher, ten steel wick holders, a magnetic wick setting tool, a hot air gun and a scraper. Build C (₹34,880.82) adds the imported Electric Wax Melter at 10 kg (₹21,240), the 4-nozzle pouring funnel (₹1,888) and 50 more holders, so a full melt — wax for about 54 × 200g candles — can be poured in one go. Spread over a year, equipment is a small cost per candle at the right volume: ₹6.95 for Build A at 50 candles a month, ₹3.86 for Build B at 200, ₹3.63 for Build C at 800. Buy C at 50 a month and it is ₹58.13. These are example builds, not packaged kits, and CSI lists no automated candle-making machine.
One line: start with Build A at ₹4,169.82, add a second mini melter and fixtures when two-scent sessions become routine, and buy the ₹21,240 melter only when full 10 kg melts are the normal session.
Build A in one order: Mini Electric Wax Melter ₹2,360, Weighing Scale ₹354, Pen Thermometer ₹354 and Candle Wax Pouring Jug ₹531, plus spatula, centering devices, stickers and cutter — ₹4,169.82 for a bench that can start selling.

Match the build to your stage, not your budget

The question is never "how much can I spend on equipment?" It is "what does my next month of pouring actually look like?"

Small candle businesses tend to overspend on equipment in one of two ways. Some buy a large melter because it looks like commitment, then pour eight candles a weekend in a machine built for 54. Others stay on a pan and a spoon long after their orders have outgrown them, losing evenings to re-melting. Both mistakes come from choosing by budget. The better question is what your pouring session looks like — how many candles, how many scents, how much wax at once — because that is what equipment has to serve.

The three builds below are example builds, assembled from individually listed CSI products; CSI does not sell them as packages. They are designed as a path: each build keeps every tool the previous one bought, so moving up never makes earlier spending redundant. The wax arithmetic throughout uses the series standard of a 200g candle at an 8% fragrance load, which is 184g of wax and 16g of oil.

Build A · ₹4,169.82 — the start-selling bench

Build A is the smallest bench that lets a business sell candles it can repeat. It replaces the stove with an electric melter, replaces measuring by eye with a scale and thermometer, and replaces hand-held wicks with fixtures. Nothing in it is decorative. The melter is 56.6% of the build; the other seven items together cost ₹1,809.82.

Build A anchor · melting
Mini Electric Wax/Soap Melter (1 litre)
The piece of equipment that turns a hobby bench into a small-business bench. The page states a 1 litre capacity, dual power modes of 300W and 600W, Gear I at approximately 70–85°C and Gear II up to 100–120°C, a seamless leak-proof stainless steel liner and hidden cord storage, and the title carries a 1-year warranty. It notes that the ideal melting range for most candle waxes is 80–90°C. Its capacity is in litres, not grams, so weigh one comfortable working load of your own wax the first time you use it and write that figure down — it is the number every session plan depends on. It carries seven reviews; one buyer calls it "Highly recommended for candle making. Convenient to use." Another asked for the same product in 2–3 litres, which is exactly the limit Build B works around.

Build A fixture · ₹23.60 a position
Wick Centering Device (Pack of 5)
The cheapest way to stop wicks leaning while wax sets. The page describes a natural wood bar with a centre hole, stating a length of 11.4 cm, a width of 9 mm and a 4 mm hole, suited to round or square containers whose opening is less than 4 inches. Five devices for ₹118 is ₹23.60 per jar position, which means Build A can hold five jars at once. That is the right number for small sessions and the first thing to outgrow; Build B adds steel holders rather than more wood. The Bamboo Wick Holder is the same ₹118 for a set of five, and one CSI customer notes it "doesn't exert any pressure on the wicks".
Item Price Per position Stated fit
Wick Centering Device · pack of 5 ₹118 ₹23.60 Openings under 4 inches

Steel Wick Holder · each (Build B) ₹50 ₹50 Jars up to 9 cm wide
₹23.60 per jar position, reused every batch Buy Centering Devices
The Build A trap: using the melter as the pouring vessel. It is tempting to scent the wax in the mini melter and pour straight from it. The problem is weighing. The oil has to be measured against the wax it goes into, and the melter is not sitting on your scale. Draw the wax into the pouring jug on the scale, tare it, weigh the oil in at 16g for every 184g, stir, check the temperature, then pour. The jug is ₹531 of Build A for exactly this reason. The general method is covered in how to melt wax for candle making without the mess.

Build B · ₹9,252.82 — regular stock, two scents a session

The day you pour a second scent while the first is still setting, a second melter stops being a luxury.

Build B is for the business that restocks regularly: a market every weekend, an Instagram drop every fortnight, or a shop that reorders. The defining change is running two scents in one session. With one mini melter that means melting, scenting and pouring scent one, cleaning, then starting again. Build B's answer is not a bigger melter; it is a second 1 litre mini melter, so each scent has its own. Two minis cost ₹4,720 in all — a fifth of the 10 kg melter's price — and neither is wasted when that melter eventually arrives.

Build B finish · sellable tops
Hot Air Gun
The finishing tool that earns its place once candles go on a stall table where customers pick them up and look at the top. The page states it reaches about 200°C within a few seconds, that the temperature cannot be adjusted, that it should be held 5–6 cm from the work at about 45 degrees, and a size of about 9 × 1.7 inches with a 39-inch cable. Its listed uses are general crafts; candle makers commonly use a heat gun to smooth a rough top, and because this one runs at one heat, keep it moving and practise on a reject. It has two CSI reviews — one from a customer who has used it for three years, another saying it is "Working nicely so far". If more than the odd top needs it, check your pour temperature against the wax page first.

Check the socket before running two melters
Two minis on their 600W setting is up to 1,200W between them, from the stated power modes. Plug them into a socket and extension rated for the load, not a thin multi-plug shared with a kettle. If you are unsure what your kitchen or studio circuit can carry, ask an electrician before a long session — it is a five-minute question that protects the equipment and the room.

Build C · ₹34,880.82 — batch production

Build C is for the business whose sessions are measured in kilos: festive and corporate runs, wholesale orders, or a single bestselling scent poured by the tray. It adds three things to Build B. The imported Electric Wax Melter at 10 kg capacity (₹21,240), whose page states a display from 60°C to 100°C with a ±10°C deviation and that it can melt 10 kg of soy wax in approximately 30 minutes at 100°C for the 10 kg model. The 4-nozzle Wax Pouring Funnel (₹1,888), stainless steel with lever control and a rack. And two more packs of 25 steel wick holders (₹2,500), bringing the bench to 60 steel positions plus the five wooden devices — enough for a full melt of about 54 × 200g candles in one pour.

Electric Wax Melter (Imported)
The first piece of equipment in this guide that buys volume rather than control. Beyond the display range, deviation and stated melt time above, the page says it "can melt 9.5 liters of candle wax and create 80 candles at a time" without saying which size or what candle weight that refers to, so plan with your own: at 184g of wax per candle, a full 10 kg melt is about 54 candles and a full 20 kg melt about 108. One CSI customer who has used it for about nine months describes 10 kg of wax melting in "mere 20-30 minutes" — that is one customer's experience, not a specification. The 20 kg size (₹25,960) is ₹4,720 more; for a small business moving up from Build B, 10 kg is the natural first step.
Capacity Price 200g candles per full melt Full melts for 200 candles a month

20 kgs ₹25,960 ≈108 1.85

Here is how the three builds work together on a Build C batch day. None of Build A or B is retired; each tool takes a narrower job.

1
Set every wick before the melter goes onSticker at the base, steel holder at the rim, one position per jar in the run. For a full 54-candle melt, 54 of your 60 steel positions are in use; the wooden centering devices hold the test jars.
2
Melt the main scent's wax in the 10 kg melter; test scents in the minisThe big melter holds the bestseller; the two minis carry a new scent trial or a small custom order at the same time, which is the job they do best once Build C arrives.
3
Scent by weight in the pitcher, not by guess in the tankDraw wax into the 600 ml pitcher on the scale, tare, add 16g of oil per 184g of wax, and mix with the Pro Mixer for the stated 60–90 seconds. Read the wax with the pen thermometer; the melter display carries a stated ±10°C.
4
Pour the row through the funnelTransfer scented wax to the 4-nozzle funnel and work along the row with the lever. Pour at the temperature your wax page states — 70–80°C for Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, 58–60°C for CSI 468.
5
Finish, trim and logHot air gun for tops that need it, the cutter for wick length, the scraper for the bench. Record actual temperatures and weights for the batch; cure before any burn test.

What each build costs per candle

Equipment is bought once and used for years, so the fairest way to compare builds is to spread the cost across the candles it helps make. The table below does that over a first year only, at three example volumes. This is illustrative arithmetic, not a forecast: it assumes the stated monthly volume for twelve months and ignores the fact that the tools keep working afterwards, which means every figure is higher than the true long-run cost.

Illustrative · equipment cost per candle over 12 months
Build cost ÷ (candles per month × 12) — the right build at the right volume is a few rupees a candle
Candles a month (candles in year one) Build A · ₹4,169.82 Build B · ₹9,252.82 Build C · ₹34,880.82
50 (600) ₹6.95 ₹15.42 ₹58.13
200 (2,400) ₹1.74 ₹3.86 ₹14.53
800 (9,600) ₹0.43 — but see below ₹0.96 — but see below ₹3.63

Read the bold diagonal first: each build at the volume it is designed for costs ₹3.63 to ₹6.95 per candle in its first year. Against the wax alone in a 200g candle — ₹110.38 of Luxury Soy Wax Chunks from the ₹5,999 10 kg bag — that is small. Now read off the diagonal. Build C at 50 candles a month is ₹58.13 a candle, more than half the wax cost again, for capacity you are not using. And Build A at 800 a month looks almost free at ₹0.43, but that number hides the real cost: the hours of re-melting a 1 litre melter over and over. Past the diagonal, the constraint is no longer rupees per candle. It is hours per session.

The CSI principle
The right build is the one whose every tool is used every week.
An idle 10 kg melter is the most expensive tool a small business can own, and an overworked 1 litre melter is the most expensive way to spend evenings. Somewhere between them is the build where nothing sits unused and nothing holds you up — and that build moves as your orders do.
Moving to Build C? The Electric Wax Melter is ₹21,240 for 10 kg and ₹25,960 for 20 kg, and the 4-nozzle Wax Pouring Funnel is ₹1,888. Ask about wattage and warranty before you order, and get bulk pricing and GST invoicing on the wax you'll melt in it, on WhatsApp.

What a small business should not buy yet

Every listed tool below is a good product. None of them belongs on a small-business bench before its moment, and together they are the most common way a first equipment budget doubles without adding a single sellable candle.

Delay these · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Good tools bought too early, and the signal that says it's time
Item Price Why wait Buy it when
Electric Wax Melter · 20 kgs capacity ₹25,960 Twice the capacity of a melter most small businesses have not yet filled Full 10 kg melts are no longer enough for one session
Wax Pouring Funnel (4 nozzles) ₹1,888 A jug or pitcher is quicker to clean for small sessions Rows of jars are waiting on the pour
Steel Wick Holders by the 25 ₹1,250 a pack Positions you never fill at once Sessions exceed the positions you own
Candle Wick Trimmer (premium) ₹588.82 The ₹177 cutter does the same bench job You want a retail-counter or gift-box tool
Bamboo Stirring Sticks · pack of 100 ₹1,888 (₹18.88 each) A spatula and the Pro Mixer are reused every batch You need disposable stirrers, for example for colour tests
An automated candle machine Not listed by CSI Automation before a proven product is the costliest bet of all See the candle-making machine guide
Buying the funnel to "look professional". The 4-nozzle funnel is an excellent production tool and a poor first purchase. For a five-jar session it adds a vessel to fill, a plug and nozzles to clean, and a transfer step between the jug and the jars. Until a full melter's worth of wax is waiting for you to finish pouring, ₹1,888 does more good as oil and jars. Keep it on the Build C list, where it pays for itself in pouring rhythm rather than appearance.

When to move up a build

Move up on evidence, not on mood. These are the signals worth acting on, and each is something you can observe in a normal pouring week.

From Build A to Build B: you pour two scents in the same session most weeks; you regularly run out of the five centering devices mid-session; tops on market stock need finishing more often than you would like; or you catch yourself cleaning the melter between scents while the first batch sets. Any two of those justify the ₹5,083 of additions. The second mini melter alone is the single biggest time-saver in the move.

From Build B to Build C: one session regularly needs several kilos of a single wax — for example, a confirmed order of 50 candles of one scent is 9,200g of wax (50 × 184g), which is a nearly full 10 kg melt; your two minis are running flat out and you are still re-melting mid-scent; and orders like that are repeating, not one-off. Buy Build C when it will be used every week. For a one-off festive order, a borrowed evening and the two minis are usually the cheaper answer. The deeper melter comparison, with labelled time assumptions, is in the wax melting machine guide for small businesses.

Buy the equipment for the orders you have. Keep it when the orders grow.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies candle-making raw materials and equipment; we do not sell finished candles. The most profitable page we could write would tell every small business to buy Build C. We have written the opposite — start with ₹4,169.82 and move up on evidence — because a small business that overspends on equipment runs short of cash for wax, oil and jars, and a business that runs short of materials stops ordering them.

Every price on this page comes from live CSI stock in September 2026 and links to the product page, where current pricing always takes precedence. The three builds are example combinations of individually listed products; CSI does not sell them as packaged kits. Specifications are quoted only as stated on each page — 1 litre and 300W/600W with a 1-year warranty in the title for the Mini Electric Wax Melter; a 60–100°C display with ±10°C deviation and a stated melt time of approximately 30 minutes for 10 kg of soy wax at 100°C on the Electric Wax Melter (Imported). Where a page is silent — the large melter's wattage and warranty, the funnel's and jug's capacity, the thermometer's range — we say so. Per-candle equipment figures are illustrative.

Frequently asked questions

What equipment do I need to start a small candle business in India?
Enough to make candles you can repeat: an electric melter, a scale, a thermometer, a pouring vessel and wick fixtures. In the example Build A (₹4,169.82) that is the 1 litre Mini Electric Wax Melter (₹2,360), Candle Making Weighing Scale (₹354), Pen Thermometer (₹354), Silicone Spatula (₹175.82), Candle Wax Pouring Jug (₹531), Wick Centering Device pack of 5 (₹118), 40 wick stickers (₹100) and a wick cutter (₹177). Materials — wax, oil, wicks and jars — are separate.
How much does it cost to set up candle making equipment for a small business?
From CSI live stock in September 2026, the three example builds cost ₹4,169.82 (start selling), ₹9,252.82 (regular stock with two mini melters) and ₹34,880.82 (batch production with the 10 kg Electric Wax Melter, 4-nozzle funnel and 60 steel wick holders). Each build includes everything in the one before. Spread over a first year at the volume each suits, that is roughly ₹3.63–₹6.95 of equipment per candle — illustrative, not a forecast.
Can I start a candle business without a wax melter?
Yes. Many makers begin with a double boiler on the stove. You still need the tools that make candles repeatable — in Build A, everything except the melter costs ₹1,809.82: scale, thermometer, spatula, pouring jug, centering devices, stickers and cutter. The melter earns its ₹2,360 when stovetop melting limits how evenly and how long you can hold wax. The trade-offs are covered in double boiler vs electric wax melter.
Is one mini wax melter enough for a small candle business?
For one scent at a time, often yes. The Mini Electric Wax Melter states a 1 litre capacity, so weigh a working load of your wax to know how many candles a load covers. Once you routinely pour two scents per session, a second mini (₹2,360) usually helps more than a bigger machine, because each scent gets its own melter. Two minis cost ₹4,720; at 600W each, check the socket can carry 1,200W.
When should a small business buy a 10 kg wax melter?
When sessions of several kilos of one wax are repeating, not occasional. A full 10 kg melt is enough wax for about 54 × 200g candles at 8%. The Electric Wax Melter (Imported) is ₹21,240 for 10 kg and ₹25,960 for 20 kg; its page states a 60–100°C display with ±10°C deviation and a melt time of approximately 30 minutes for 10 kg of soy at 100°C. Ask on WhatsApp about wattage and warranty before ordering.
Does CSI sell candle making machines for small businesses?
No automated candle-making machine is listed — nothing that moulds, fills or wicks candles by itself. What CSI lists is electric wax melters (1 litre, 10 kg and 20 kg), a lever-operated 4-nozzle pouring funnel, a cordless mixer, a hot air gun and hand tools. For a small business, that combination is the production line. What people usually mean by "candle machine" is explained in the candle-making machine guide.
