5 kg for a small monthly line, and the oil that goes with it
A 5 kg bag suits a maker selling a couple of dozen candles a month: a weekend stall, a small online shop, a steady trickle of gift orders. At 200 g it makes 27. The question most people forget is how much fragrance oil a 5 kg bag drags along with it.
Match the oil to the bag
27 candles at 16 g of oil each need 432 g. That is more than four 100 g bottles and less than half a 1 kg bottle. Use one scent for the whole bag and four 100 g bottles fall short, so you need a fifth.
Plan the scent split before you melt. Nine candles in each of three scents need 144 g of oil per scent, which means two 100 g bottles each, with oil left over to start the next bag.
The usual mistake: Buying one 100 g bottle for each of five scents, then finding that each bottle scents only six 200 g candles (100 ÷ 16 = 6.25) and pouring the rest of the wax with guesswork. Buy oil for the candles you plan, not by the bottle count.
