A pre-tabbed wick is not a convenience. It is an hour of bench time per hundred candles, and it is also cheaper.

A pre-tabbed wick arrives cut to length with the metal sustainer already crimped on. That one decision removes about an hour of bench work from every hundred container candles — and at CSI pricing it costs less per finished wick than cutting and tabbing your own.
₹5.90
per pre-tabbed Eco Candle Wick, Thin (C1), at every pack size from 10 to 1,000 · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
What is a pre-tabbed wick? A wick already cut to length and crimped into a metal base disc — the tab, or sustainer. The tab holds the wick upright, keeps it centred while the wax sets, and its raised neck stops the flame from reaching the bottom of the jar at the end of the burn.

What do they cost at CSI? Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) ₹5.90 a wick, Thick (C2) ₹9.44, Cotton Braided Wicks Ready Made ₹12.00, Performance Wooden Wicks ₹41.30–₹59.00.

Is tabbing your own cheaper? No. The 61 m Braided Wick Roll with 100 wick tabs is ₹706.82, which is ₹7.07 per finished wick against ₹5.90 pre-tabbed — and you still have to do the cutting and crimping.

When should you not buy pre-tabbed? Pillars and moulds, where there is no vessel for a tab to sit in, and jars taller than the wick length you are buying. Those need wick on the roll instead.
The short answer
Buy pre-tabbed for all container work. Eco Candle Wicks in Thin (C1) at ₹5.90 each or Thick (C2) at ₹9.44 each, in packs of 10, 20, 50, 100, 500 and 1,000.
It is cheaper and faster than tabbing your own. ₹5.90 against ₹7.07 per finished wick from the roll, and roughly 58 minutes of labour saved per 100 wicks.
What the tab decides — three wicks, three burns 1 · TABBED AND SEATED neck Upright · centred · flame held clear of the base RESULT: even pool wall to wall, clean burn-out 2 · TAB FIXED CROOKED Flame leans · one wall runs hot, one stays cold RESULT: tunnelling on the cold side, sooted glass 3 · NO TAB / TAB LET GO no neck Wick drifts in liquid wax · sits flat on the glass RESULT: drowns in the pool, heat straight into the base
The tab does three jobs at once: it anchors the wick so it cannot drift while the wax is liquid, holds it vertical so the melt pool grows evenly in every direction, and raises the flame off the bottom of the glass. Lose any one and the defect shows up in the customer's hands, not on your bench.
Straight answer
Should a container candle business buy pre-tabbed wicks or tab its own?
Buy pre-tabbed, for containers, almost without exception. CSI's Eco Candle Wicks are ₹5.90 a wick in Thin (C1) and ₹9.44 in Thick (C2) at every pack size from 10 to 1,000. Cutting and crimping your own from the 61 m Braided Wick Roll with 100 wick tabs at ₹706.82 works out at ₹7.07 per finished wick before you have touched it, because the hundred tabs, not the sixty-one metres of braid, cap the yield — then add roughly 58 minutes of bench time per hundred to cut, thread and crimp. Pre-tabbed is cheaper and faster; there is no trade-off to weigh. Spend the difference on the things that actually stop a wick failing: wick stickers at ₹2.50 each or the Wick Setting Tool at ₹399 to fix the tab dead centre, and a centering device at ₹23.60 to hold it there while the wax sets. Keep roll wick for pillars, moulds and unusually tall vessels. Size before you buy, using the sizing method.
One line: pre-tabbed Eco wicks at ₹5.90 beat roll-and-tab at ₹7.07 plus an hour of labour per hundred; buy roll wick only for candles with no vessel.
If you pour containers and you are still cutting wick off a roll, this is the cheapest process change available to you. Eco Candle Wicks from ₹59 for 10 in Thin (C1) and Thick (C2), or Cotton Braided Wicks Ready Made from ₹120 for 10.

What the tab actually does

A wick that sits crooked or floats free is a burn defect before the candle is ever lit. The tab is what prevents it, and it is the cheapest engineering in the whole jar.

The tab — the small metal disc crimped onto the bottom of the wick, also called a sustainer — looks like packaging. It is a structural part, and it does three jobs you would otherwise have to solve by hand, one jar at a time.

First, it anchors. Wax goes in liquid and stays liquid for minutes, and anything not fixed down will move: a bare wick drifts, curls and finds the wall. A tab is a flat, weighted base you stick to the bottom of the vessel before the wax goes near it, so the wick's position at the end of the pour is the one you chose at the start.

Second, it holds the wick vertical, and this is the one that costs money later. The melt pool grows outward from the flame in a circle; at an angle that circle is off-centre, so one side of the jar runs hot and the other builds a shelf of unburnt wax. The customer calls it tunnelling and blames the wick size. The size is often right — the wick was not vertical, and that is a defect which only appears hours into a burn, in somebody's living room.

Third, the neck height ends the burn safely. Most tabs carry a raised collar around the wick hole, and it sets how far above the base the wick is clamped. At the end of the candle's life that keeps the flame off glass with almost no wax left to absorb the heat — it is why a finished jar ends with a puck of wax rather than a naked flame.

Failure: your test burns are fine and customers report uneven burning. Diagnosis: you test candles you wicked carefully and ship candles you wicked quickly. Fix: a pre-tabbed wick, a wick sticker and a centering device give the same result at jar 400 as at jar 4. Hand-cut wick, a blob of glue and eyeballed positioning do not.

None of this replaces getting the wick size right — a perfectly seated wick two sizes too small still tunnels. Sizing is a separate decision with its own method, set out in the candle wick supplier guide and by diameter in the complete guide by diameter. Size first; use this page to choose the form.

The CSI pre-tabbed range, priced

Four pre-tabbed products, all live in the Candle Wicks collection at CSI live pricing, September 2026. The per-wick column is the pack price divided by the pack count — arithmetic for your costing sheet, not a price shown on the site. The linked product page is always authoritative on price and availability.

Eco Candle Wicks — Thin (C1)
The cheapest pre-tabbed wick in the catalogue and the one most container makers standardise on. ₹5.90 a wick at every pack size — no bulk discount, which matters for how you buy and is dealt with at the end of this page. Monika Deep, a verified buyer, rated these four stars: "Quality of the wick is good for jar candles, team can work on the pricing and delivery timelines."

Eco Candle Wicks — Thick (C2)
The step up from C1 on the same listing, at ₹9.44 a wick across every pack size. The stock position, stated honestly: the 10-wick C2 pack is out of stock as of the 10 September 2026 pull, so the smallest buyable C2 quantity today is 20 — which pushes a C1-against-C2 test on a new jar to ₹188.80 for the C2 leg rather than ₹94.40.

A separate listing from the Eco range, ready-made in the same pack ladder at ₹12.00 a wick, flat — ₹6.10 more than an Eco C1 and ₹2.56 more than an Eco C2. Not the price default; the choice you make when burn tests say this braid performs better in your jar and wax. Test it before committing a production quantity — the difference over 500 units is ₹3,050 against C1.

Performance Wooden Wicks (Imported)
The one pre-tabbed product that does get cheaper in bulk, and by a lot: ₹59.00 a wick in tens, ₹47.20 in fifties, ₹41.30 in hundreds — a 30% drop, and the only place on this page where a larger pack changes your unit economics. At ₹41.30 a wooden wick adds roughly seven times the wick cost of an Eco C1 per candle, so work it through your pricing before standardising on it.

Not pre-tabbed, listed so you do not buy them by mistake: Eco Braided Wicks (5 metre) at ₹472 / 5 m (₹94.40 per m) and ₹826 / 10 m (₹82.60 per m), and Eco Candle Wicks Loose (2 inch diameter) at ₹413 / 5 m (₹82.60 per m) and ₹708 / 10 m (₹70.80 per m). These are wick material by the metre with no tabs — right for moulds and pillars, wrong for a jar. Full comparison in the wick roll guide.

The time argument, in minutes and rupees

Here is the arithmetic in full: one Eco Candle Wick Thin (C1) at ₹5.90, bought finished, against one wick cut and crimped by you from the Braided Wick Roll with 100 wick tabs (61 metres) at ₹706.82.

What caps the roll is not the braid. Sixty-one metres across a hundred wicks is 61 cm each, far more than any container candle needs. The cap is the hundred tabs in the box, and CSI does not list loose tabs separately, so a hundred tabs is a hundred finished wicks, and the true cost per finished wick is ₹706.82 ÷ 100 = ₹7.07. Leftover braid is inventory, not saving.

Materials only · before any labour is counted
₹7.07 to make one, ₹5.90 to buy one finished
Route What you buy Yield Per finished wick
Pre-tabbed Eco Candle Wicks C1, ₹590 per 100 100 finished wicks ₹5.90
Pre-tabbed, thick Eco Candle Wicks C2, ₹944 per 100 100 finished wicks ₹9.44
Roll and tab it yourself 61 m roll + 100 tabs, ₹706.82 100 finished wicks (tab-limited) ₹7.07
Roll only, no tabs Eco Candle Wicks Loose, ₹708 per 10 m Length only — no tab at all ₹70.80 per metre

Now add the labour. Tabbing one wick is four movements: pull braid off the roll, cut to a measured length, thread it through the tab hole, crimp the neck closed. Done properly, with the wick straight in the tab, that is comfortably 30 to 40 seconds a piece. Take the middle — 35 seconds — and a hundred wicks is 3,500 seconds, or 58 minutes. Call it an hour of bench time per hundred candles. The rate is your number: the example below assumes ₹150 an hour as an illustrative workshop rate, not a CSI figure and not survey data. Substitute your own — the shape of the answer does not change, because the roll is dearer before a rupee of labour is added.

Fully loaded cost · 35 seconds per wick, ₹150 per hour assumed
What each route really costs across three production sizes
Run size Pre-tabbed C1 Roll + tabs, materials Bench time Roll route, all in Penalty
100 wicks ₹590.00 ₹706.82 58 min (₹145.83) ₹852.65 +₹262.65
500 wicks ₹2,950.00 ₹3,534.10 4 hr 52 min (₹729.17) ₹4,263.27 +₹1,313.27
1,000 wicks ₹5,900.00 ₹7,068.20 9 hr 44 min (₹1,458.33) ₹8,526.53 +₹2,626.53

Per wick that is ₹8.53 to make one against ₹5.90 to buy one — forty-five per cent more, for a part you have also taken on the risk of crimping badly. The conclusion survives argument. Push the pace to an implausible 20 seconds a wick and drop the rate to ₹100 an hour and the roll still lands at ₹7.62, twenty-nine per cent above pre-tabbed. Set labour to zero, as if your hours were free, and the roll is still ₹7.07 against ₹5.90.

The CSI principle
Pre-tabbed is cheaper and faster for container work. Say it plainly: there is no trade-off here to think about.
Almost every sourcing decision in candle making is a trade — cheaper wax for a slower cure, cheaper oil for a weaker throw. This one is not. The finished wick costs less than the parts and arrives with an hour of labour per hundred already done. The only reason to buy on the roll is a candle with no vessel for a tab to sit in.

There is a second-order cost that never reaches the invoice. Nine hours and forty-four minutes is more than a working day spent with pliers instead of pouring, labelling and packing — and in the weeks before Diwali on 8 November 2026 that day is the difference between shipping a festive run comfortably and shipping it at midnight. The same arithmetic at every station is what scaling to 1,000 orders a month is about.

Time it once, for your own workshop
Do not take 35 seconds on trust. Sit down with the roll, pliers and a timer, tab twenty wicks properly, multiply by five. That is your real number, and the only one that belongs in your costing sheet — most makers come out slower than they guessed once dropped tabs and re-crimps are counted.
Working back from Diwali on 8 November 2026, a festive run needs wicks in hand well before the pour so the candles can cure. Eco C1 at ₹2,950 per 500 or ₹5,900 per 1,000; bulk pricing, GST invoicing and documentation on WhatsApp.

Fixing the tab to the jar: stickers, glue, or the setting tool

A pre-tabbed wick solves the wick; it does not solve the attachment. Three methods are in common use, and the failure mode of the cheap one is expensive enough to understand before you choose.

1
Wick stickers — ₹2.50 each, the production defaultDouble-sided adhesive discs sized for the tab. Candle Wick Stickers are ₹100 for a sheet of 40 — ₹2.50 a candle. The 100-sticker sheet at ₹236 (₹2.36 each) is out of stock as of 10 September 2026; for wider tabs, Large Candle Wick Stickers (40 × 2 mm) at ₹249 for 40, ₹6.23 each. Press the tab hard onto the sticker and the sticker hard onto a clean, dry, room-temperature base. Speed comes from doing a whole tray before any wax is melted.
2
Hot glue — cheap per unit, and CSI does not sell itA dab of hot glue holds a tab perfectly well. A glue gun is general hardware rather than a candle supply, so there is none in the CSI catalogue and no CSI price quoted here. The drawbacks are process ones: the blob adds height under the tab and can tilt it, it can show as a bump through a clear base, and it is slower per jar than peeling a sticker. Reasonable at ten candles a week; poor at five hundred.
3
The Wick Setting Tool — ₹399, onceThe Wick Setting Tool presses a tabbed wick firmly against the base of a deep or narrow jar without reaching in with your fingers. Its value is not speed on the first ten jars — it is that jar 400 gets the same firm, central press as jar 4, in vessels where your hand does not fit. ₹399 is about 160 wick stickers, or the materials in one and a half ruined 200 g candles.
Why a sticker that lets go mid-pour ruins the candle, not just the wick. The adhesive is holding against hot wax. If the base was dusty, damp or cold, or the sticker was pressed on lightly, the bond fails as the wax goes in — invisibly, under 200 g of opaque liquid. The wick drifts, lies over or floats up, and by the time the wax sets the defect is sealed inside a finished-looking product. Count what is in that jar at CSI pricing: a White Matte Glass Jar at ₹70.80, 184 g of Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 at ₹507.40/kg = ₹93.36, 16 g of Sandalwood Fragrance Oil at ₹5.03/g = ₹80.43, the wick at ₹5.90 and the sticker at ₹2.50. That is ₹253 of materials risked on a ₹2.50 adhesive disc.
Centring at production scale

Sticking the tab down fixes the bottom of the wick. The top still has to stay in the middle of the jar for the minutes the wax takes to set, and a wick that leans in that window sets leaning. It is the cheapest station on the bench to get right, and the one most often improvised with a pencil and a rubber band.

Centring hardware · CSI live pricing, September 2026
What it costs to hold 25 jars at once, three ways
Product Pack & price Per unit Cost to hold 25 jars
Wick Centering Device Pack of 5 — ₹118.00 ₹23.60 ₹590.00 (5 packs)
Bamboo Wick Holder Set of 5 — ₹118.00 ₹23.60 ₹590.00 (5 sets)
Steel Wick Holder 5 — ₹250 · 10 — ₹500 · 25 — ₹1,250 ₹50.00 flat ₹1,250.00 (pack of 25)
Wick Setting Tool Single — ₹399.00 ₹399.00 One tool, not one per jar

Bamboo and the centering device cost less than half what steel costs for the same batch size, and steel does not get cheaper in bulk — ₹50 a holder at five or at twenty-five. Steel earns its price where you pour hot all day; for most makers building a 25-jar tray, ₹590 of bamboo or centering devices is the right spend. Lalitha Jagan's note on the bamboo holders is the detail that matters: "This bamboo wick holder doesn't exert any pressure on the wicks… and it is a very useful product 👌🏻👌🏻.." — a holder that grips too hard pulls the wick out of vertical, the exact fault you bought it to prevent. The Premium Candle Wicking Needle at ₹472 and the Wick Inserter, Steel Straw at ₹59 sit on the same bench but solve a mould problem, not a jar one — LJ: "This needle is very helpful as it doesn't damage the mould and there is no leakage of wax while pouring.. I would definitely recommend this ..", and Sneha Tamang, a verified buyer: "Good one".

The defect is invisible to you and obvious to them
A crooked wick makes a candle that looks perfect on your shelf and burns unevenly four hours into somebody's evening. You will never see it. You will see the review. That asymmetry is the whole reason to spend ₹23.60 a jar-slot on holding the wick straight.

Where pre-tabbed does not work

Two cases, and in both, buying pre-tabbed is buying the wrong part.

Pillars, moulds and anything with no vessel. A tab is a base that sits on the floor of a container. A pillar is demoulded and stands on its own, so a metal disc crimped to the wick would either be sealed into the wax doing nothing or drop off in the customer's hand. Moulded work is wicked by threading wick through the mould before pouring — which is what the wicking needle at ₹472 and the steel straw inserter at ₹59 exist for. Buy by the metre instead, alongside Soy Pillar Wax at ₹300 per 500 g and one of the 62 products in the Candle Moulds collection.

Vessels taller than the wick. A pre-tabbed wick comes at a fixed cut length, and it has to reach from the base of the jar to above the wax line with spare to trim. In a tall apothecary or a deep cylinder it may not. This is a measurement, not a judgement call: measure the internal height, check the wick length on the product page before ordering, and if the vessel wins, buy on the roll and cut your own. Ordering 500 pre-tabbed wicks and then finding they are short is ₹2,950 of stranded stock.

Buy what you will use in a season, not the biggest pack. The argument against our own interest: CSI wick pricing is flat per unit. Eco C1 is ₹5.90 whether you buy ten or a thousand, C2 is ₹9.44 either way, Cotton Braided ₹12.00 either way. There is no volume discount to chase — a 1,000-pack saves you one delivery, not rupees, and commits ₹5,900 to a single wick size before your burn tests are finished and while your jar range may still change. A wick that turns out one size wrong is not a discount, it is stranded stock. The one real exception is Performance Wooden Wicks, where the pack of 100 at ₹41.30 a wick is 30% below the pack of 10 at ₹59.00 — there, and only there, volume is worth buying into. The full ladder across every wick in the range is in the wholesale wick price matrix.
You are not buying a wick. You are buying back an hour per hundred candles, for less than the parts cost.
— CandleMakingSuppliesIndia

Housekeeping: a tabbed wick is trimmed, not just lit, and CSI lists trimmers at ₹177, ₹295 and ₹588.82. Whether one goes in the customer's box is a margin question — work it through in how to price candles in India against the complete candle making raw material list.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. We sell both the pre-tabbed wicks and the 61 m roll with tabs, so we have no stake in which you choose — and we have said plainly that the roll loses on price and time for container work, and that the biggest Eco pack saves you nothing, because our wick pricing is flat per unit.

Every price here is taken from live CSI stock on 10 September 2026 and links to the product page, which always takes precedence. Out-of-stock variants are marked rather than quietly omitted: the Eco C2 10-wick pack and the 100-sticker sheet were both unavailable that day. Per-wick and per-metre figures are the pack price divided by the pack count — costing arithmetic, not prices shown on the site.

The labour figures are labelled assumptions — 35 seconds per wick and ₹150 per hour — offered so you can substitute your own and re-run the sum. They are not survey data. For bulk pricing, GST invoicing, MSDS and IFRA documentation, or help matching a wick size to a specific jar diameter, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Frequently asked questions

What does "pre-tabbed" mean on a candle wick?
The wick arrives cut to length with a metal base disc — the tab, or sustainer — crimped on. It anchors the wick so it cannot drift while the wax is liquid, holds it vertical so the melt pool grows evenly, and raises it off the glass so the flame does not sit on the base at the end of the burn. Eco Candle Wicks come pre-tabbed in Thin (C1) at ₹5.90 a wick and Thick (C2) at ₹9.44.
Is it cheaper to buy pre-tabbed wicks or to tab your own?
Pre-tabbed is cheaper. The Braided Wick Roll with 100 wick tabs is ₹706.82 and its hundred tabs cap it at a hundred finished wicks — ₹7.07 each against ₹5.90 for a pre-tabbed Eco C1, before any labour. Add ~58 minutes of cutting and crimping per hundred and the gap widens to about ₹8.53 against ₹5.90 at an assumed ₹150 an hour.
How long does it take to tab 100 wicks by hand?
Budget 30 to 40 seconds per wick for measuring, cutting, threading and crimping properly. At 35 seconds that is 3,500 seconds, or 58 minutes, per 100 wicks — close to ten hours for a thousand. Time twenty wicks in your own workshop and multiply by five; most makers come out slower than they expect once dropped tabs and re-crimps are counted.
Should I use wick stickers or hot glue?
Stickers, once you are past a handful of candles a week. Candle Wick Stickers are ₹100 for 40 (₹2.50 each) and a whole tray can be prepared before any wax is melted; Large Wick Stickers are ₹249 for 40 (₹6.23 each). Hot glue works but is slower per jar, can tilt the tab and can show through a clear base — and CSI stocks no glue guns, so no CSI price applies. Either way, press onto a wiped, dry, room-temperature jar.
Do I save money buying a 1,000-wick pack?
No. CSI wick pricing is flat per unit — Eco C1 is ₹5.90 a wick at 10, 20, 50, 100, 500 and 1,000, and Eco C2 is ₹9.44 across the same ladder. A larger pack saves a delivery, not rupees, and commits ₹5,900 to one wick size before your burn tests are settled. Buy a season's worth. The single exception is Performance Wooden Wicks, which drop from ₹59.00 a wick in tens to ₹41.30 in hundreds.
When should I buy wick on the roll instead?
For pillars, moulds and any candle without a vessel, where a tab has nothing to sit on and the wick is threaded through the mould with a wicking needle (₹472) or a steel straw inserter (₹59) — and for vessels taller than the pre-tabbed wick length. Eco Candle Wicks Loose are ₹708 per 10 m, Eco Braided Wicks ₹826 per 10 m.
