A 300 g candle puts wax near the centre of your costing
Large candles change the balance. In a 300 g jar the wax is 276 g, and it becomes one of the biggest single costs you carry: ₹110.12 of Eco Soy CSI 400, ₹140.04 of CSI 464, ₹175.81 of CSI 468. That is where a wax decision starts to show up in your margin.
Selling price rarely triples when the candle does
Makers seldom charge three times as much for three times the wax. Take two example prices: a 100 g candle at ₹499 and a 300 g candle at ₹999. With CSI 464, the small candle's wax is 46.68 ÷ 499, about 9% of its price. The large candle's wax is 140.04 ÷ 999, about 14%. The bigger candle earns more rupees per sale, but wax takes a larger share of each one. If you price large candles by instinct, check this share first.
Wicks cost more when jars get wider
Wide 300 g jars often need a thicker wick or two wicks to melt out to the edge. Which one you need is something to find in a burn test, not on paper. The cost difference is easy to see, though: one Thick (C2) wick is ₹9.44, and two Thin (C1) wicks are 2 × 5.90 = 11.80 rupees. Both are small next to the wax, so choose the wick for the burn, not the price.
The trap: treating a failed large candle like a failed small one. A rejected 300 g candle takes ₹140.04 of CSI 464 with it, plus its oil, jar and wick. Run your wick and pour tests on large sizes before a full batch, because each mistake costs three times the wax of a 100 g one.
Batch sizes and bags
A 10 kg bag gives 36 candles of 300 g at 8%, and a 5 kg bag gives 18. If your large candles sell in small numbers, a 5 kg bag of CSI 464 at ₹2,537.00 costs the same per kilogram as a 10 kg bag and ties up half the cash. Only Pearl and CSI 468 get cheaper per kilogram at 5 kg, and neither gets cheaper again at 10 kg.
