The verdict: eight CSI soy grades in one table
Three are 100% soy container waxes with published working figures (CSI 464, Luxury Soy Wax Chunks and Eco Soy CSI 400). Two are coconut-soy blends, one with a full specification (Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468) and one without (Premium Coconut Soy Wax). The remaining three are built for particular formats: Soy Pillar Wax for moulded pillars, Soy Butter Wax for dessert and whipped candles, and Natural Soy Pearl Wax, a pearl-form wax the page describes as “made from a blend of soy wax”. Asking which is best without saying what you pour is like asking which flour is best without saying whether you are making rotis or a cake.
The table uses only what the product pages publish; where a page is silent, the cell says so. That gap is information in itself: a wax with a stated ceiling and temperature window can be planned around before you spend money, while one without has to be learned by testing or asking.

Two things stand out before any ranking. First, only three of the eight grades publish a fragrance ceiling, and only CSI 468 publishes a melting point. Second, the price spread is wide: the dearest grade costs 2.75 times the cheapest per kilo, but the three container grades most makers shortlist — CSI 464, Chunks and CSI 468 — sit within ₹142.60 of each other at the 1 kg pack. The decision between those three is where most of the value in this page sits.
How the ranking works
Every grade was ranked for a specific job using five tests a maker in Pune or Kochi can check with the product page and a calculator. There are no lab scores: CSI does not publish comparative burn-test data for these waxes, and an invented “throw rating” is exactly the kind of number to distrust.
1. Does the page publish what you need to plan a batch?
The planning minimum is a fragrance ceiling and a temperature window: with both, you can calculate oil grams and set your melter before you open the bag. CSI 464, Chunks and CSI 468 clear this bar. Eco Soy CSI 400 publishes a fragrance-add temperature but no ceiling. The other four publish neither, which does not make them bad waxes — it makes them waxes you have to learn.
2. How much fragrance headroom can you actually use?
A wax ceiling on its own is half the picture. The oil has its own limit, and the lower of the two governs. Most CSI oil pages that state a candle range stop at 10% for soy — Eucalyptus Spearmint says “up to 10% for soy wax”, and Dark Vanilla, Apple Cinnamon and Bergamot Amber all give “Soy Candles 6-10%”. A handful go higher: Japanese Cherry Blossom gives 6–13% for candles, Cinnamon Vanilla up to 13%, and Autumn 7–11%. So the three-point gap between CSI 464’s 10% and Chunks’ 13% is real, but it only opens up with the oils that allow it.
3. What does it cost per candle, not per bag?
Per-kilo prices hide how little or how much a grade changes your candle cost. This page uses the series’ standard unit — 200 g of wax plus 16 g of fragrance oil at 8% (216 g poured) with one Eco Candle Wick Thin (C1) at ₹5.90 — so every grade is compared on the same candle. On that unit, wax is about 65% of the materials cost with CSI 464 before the jar, label and box, which is why an 18% difference per kilo still moves the candle price noticeably.
4. Can you buy the size you need, repeatedly?
A wax you cannot reorder is a formula you cannot repeat. On 11 September 2026, CSI 464 had the deepest stock of the container soy grades across all four packs, while Natural Soy Pearl had only three 10 kg packs and a single 50 kg pack, and CSI 468 had fewer than ten each of its 5 kg and 10 kg packs. Stock changes daily, but a grade that is thin at the pack size you scale into ranks lower for production.
5. Is it made for your format?
Container waxes are meant to grip glass, pillar waxes to let go of a mould, dessert waxes to hold a piped shape. Using the wrong family is not a small compromise — it is a common reason a “bad wax” complaint turns out to be the right wax in the wrong candle. Container or pillar first is the earlier decision; this page assumes you have made it.
The 500 g packs exist for exactly this. CSI 464 at ₹260.00 plus CSI 468 at ₹325.00 is ₹585.00 for one kilo of wax — enough for two 200 g test candles of each, with a little over. Add Chunks at ₹299.00 and all three container finalists cost ₹884.00. The trial pack of CSI 464 costs ₹12.60 more per kilo than the 1 kg pack; that premium is the price of not guessing.
Best for most makers: Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464
The product page describes CSI 464 as a 100% soy container wax designed for single-pour application, with excellent glass adhesion, a creamy, opaque finish, low frosting and minimal blooming, and strong cold and hot throw. It publishes a fragrance ceiling of up to 10% and a shelf life of 60 months in cool, dry storage. It wins on three checkable counts: the lowest per-kilo price of the three fully specified container grades, the same ₹507.40/kg rate from 1 kg to 10 kg, and the deepest stock of any container grade in every pack.
One review reads: “One of the best wax for container Candles. Easy to work with, especially if you are a beginner.” Two five-star reviews are a small sample, and nothing on the page lets you compare throw numerically with other grades — but nothing published contradicts the choice either.

What CSI 464 is not good at
Its 10% ceiling cannot use the extra room Japanese Cherry Blossom or Cinnamon Vanilla publish, so if your signature scent lives at 11–13%, it is the wrong base however good the price. Its product page gives 80–90°C as the working range for melting and pouring. And as a flake it exposes a lot of surface to damp air, so reseal the bag in humid months.

Ranks 2 to 5: the other container waxes
Chunks publish the most complete method of any CSI soy: melt to approximately 80–85°C, add dye at full melt, add fragrance at 80–90°C and stir slowly for two full minutes, then pour at 75–80°C. Fragrance runs from an 8% start to 10% recommended and a 13% maximum “of total wax weight” (test burn thoroughly at 13%), and cure is a minimum of 48 hours, ideally one to two weeks. The page describes excellent adhesion and minimal frosting in glass, tins, ceramic and apothecary jars, single or multi-wick.
The catch is price. At ₹599.00/kg, Chunks cost ₹91.60 more per kilo than CSI 464 (18% more), and there is no bulk saving: the 500 g pack is actually the cheapest per kilo at ₹598.00, and the 10 kg pack at ₹5,999.00 costs ₹9.00 more than two 5 kg packs. Buy Chunks when your oil allows more than 10% and you will use it, or when you want a published method to follow.

CSI 468 is the only grade in this line-up that publishes a melting point — 50–53°C — and it gives a pour temperature of 58–60°C, far lower than the soy grades’ working figures. It carries the same 13% ceiling as Chunks and a 60-month shelf life, and the page describes an ultra-smooth, creamy finish, minimal frosting, excellent glass adhesion and hot and cold throw, with RSPO-certified options available. As a blend, it cannot go on a “100% soy” label.
At ₹650.00/kg for 1 kg it costs 28% more than CSI 464, dropping to ₹637.00/kg at 5 and 10 kg — a 2% saving, or ₹130.00 on a 10 kg pack versus ten 1 kg packs. The page describes an all-natural container wax produced in India, in chunks that are easy to weigh, with a creamy, off-white finish that often sets in one pour and needs no additives. Its method: add fragrance at 85°C (80–90°C), stir gently for two minutes, pour directly, with Eco Wicks recommended.
It ranks fourth, not first, for one reason: the page does not publish a fragrance ceiling. You cannot plan a 10% candle on a wax whose maximum you do not know, and other grades’ ceilings do not transfer. Its melting point is not published either. There is no bulk saving — the 5 kg pack at ₹1,996.00 costs ₹1.00 more than five 1 kg packs — and the single review is four stars: “Good quality wax”. Sold for pillar and designer candles, these soy chunks are described as melting evenly to a smooth, creamy finish across a wide range of pillar mould shapes. With five five-star reviews, it is the most-reviewed soy grade in the collection; Lalitha Jagan writes that it “is really good to make pillar candles and for moulds”. No fragrance ceiling or temperatures are published. Price is flat at ₹600.00/kg from 500 g to 10 kg, and it was well stocked in every pack.

It is the most expensive soy grade at ₹1,097.40/kg, sold only up to 1 kg, with no published figures and no reviews yet.
Two honest notes. Because it contains beeswax, do not call a candle made with it vegan or 100% soy. And at ₹219.48 per 200 g it is a poor choice for the body of a candle: pour the base in a container wax and use Soy Butter Wax only for the decorative layer. What each grade costs per candle

Read the right-hand column before the middle one. Moving from CSI 464 to Chunks adds ₹18.32 of wax to each candle — easy to ignore on one jar, but ₹1,832.00 across 100 candles, and the Chunks candle costs 11.7% more in materials. For a hobbyist making 20 candles a year, that is noise. For a small Instagram brand shipping 300 candles over the Diwali and wedding season, it is ₹5,496.00. Going the other way, CSI 400 saves ₹2,164.00 per 100 candles against CSI 464 — real money, but only worth taking once you know what fragrance load that wax will hold.
Two cost points are worth knowing before you choose a pack size. CSI 464 charges the same per kilo at 1, 5 and 10 kg, so buying the 10 kg pack saves nothing on wax — its advantage is one parcel instead of ten. The tree is short on purpose. In general candle-making practice, wick size, fragrance load and cure time change a finished candle more than moving between two well-made container waxes, so settle the wax quickly and spend your testing time on the pairing. Worked example: a 60-pour Diwali run on three shortlisted waxes
Indian heat, monsoon and delivery: what changes the answer
Summer heat. Delhi, Ahmedabad and Nagpur regularly pass 40°C, and a sealed courier van runs hotter than the shade. No CSI soy grade publishes a heat-resistance or transit rating, so no spec sheet can say which survives a June dispatch from Jaipur to Chennai. The one relevant published number is CSI 468’s melting point of 50–53°C — a figure to respect, not a reason to avoid the wax: a CSI 468 range going out in April–June deserves a trial parcel before launch. For grades without a published melting point, the same trial is the only honest answer.
Monsoon humidity. Mumbai, Kochi and Kolkata test your storage more than your wax. The CSI 464 page says to store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture; the CSI 468 page adds “keep sealed when not in use”. Flakes expose more surface to damp air than chunks, so fold and clip the bag after every weighing. Water and hot wax do not mix: moisture melted into a batch can spit in the pot and leave pits in the set candle.
Delivery charges. Two real reviews on the soy grades raise the same point: Manasa GN says “the delivery charges are very high which is restricting me to purchase more”, and Mahak agarwal, reviewing Soy Pillar Wax, writes that the shipment charges were “too higb for me”. That is fair feedback. Because CSI 464, Chunks and Soy Pillar Wax cost the same per kilo from 1 kg up, several small parcels save nothing on wax. Ask for a delivery quote on WhatsApp before you choose between one larger pack and several small ones, and combine wax, oil and wicks into one order where you can.
Festive and gifting calendars. Diwali, the wedding season and year-end corporate gifting crowd demand into a few weeks.
