Why Bottom Wick Adhesion Determines Burn Behaviour
Wick stickers are the smallest item in candle making but cause the largest number of failures when omitted. The small adhesive disc that anchors the wick base to the bottom of the candle jar decides whether the wick stays centred during pour, burns straight through 40+ hours, and delivers a candle the customer doesn't return. CSI sells wick stickers in 100, 500, and 1000 packs for hobby and production-scale makers.
100 pack ₹150-300 · 500 pack ₹500-800 · 1000 pack ₹900-1,500

Candle wick stickers are the cheapest, smallest, most ignored, and most failure-causing component in Indian candle making. A wick sticker is a double-sided heat-resistant adhesive disc that anchors the wick tab to the candle jar base. Without it, wicks drift during pour, sit crooked, burn at angles, and ruin the candle. CSI sells wick stickers in 100, 500, and 1000 packs for makers from hobby to production scale. Buy directly from the CSI collection page or WhatsApp +91-7397976926 for current stock.

India's top supplier for candle and fragrance raw materials. Trusted by 10,000+ Indian candle makers. CSI wick stickers are the most-recommended adhesion solution for production-scale Indian candle makers — heat-resistant up to 100°C, sized for 15mm and 20mm wick tab bases.
The Verdict
Buy them.
If you are hot-gluing your wicks, using a bead of wax, or eyeballing the wick into place hoping it stays — you are accepting a 15-30% failure rate that wick stickers eliminate completely. Wick stickers cost ₹1.50-3 per candle at retail pack pricing, and ₹0.90-1.50 per candle at bulk pack pricing. Compared to the cost of one wax-rework batch or one returned candle, wick stickers are the highest-ROI purchase per rupee in your entire toolkit.

The smallest decision in candle making is also the one that decides whether your candle burns straight or burns crooked. A 12mm sticker is not glamorous. It is not photogenic. It is also not optional.

Almost every "my wick keeps drifting" message we get on WhatsApp traces back to the same root cause — the maker is using hot glue, melted wax beads, or no adhesion at all to anchor the wick base to the candle jar. Hot glue softens at 60°C, well below candle pour temperature, and releases the wick into the molten wax. A wax bead has no real adhesive force and shears free during pour. The right tool for the job is a heat-resistant double-sided adhesive disc designed specifically to survive 80°C wax pour — and that disc costs ₹1.50-3 per candle.

Why wick stickers are non-negotiable for commercial candle making

There are three reasons commercial candle makers in India use wick stickers exclusively, and never the DIY alternatives. Reason 1 — they survive the pour temperature. Wick sticker adhesive is engineered to hold its grip at 80-100°C, which is the maximum wax temperature your candle will see. Hot glue softens at 60°C and fails. Wax beads have no shear strength and fail during pour. Reason 2 — they hold the wick perfectly centred. The sticker positions the wick tab on a flat base, parallel to the jar bottom, which means the wick rises straight up through the centre of the candle. Crooked wicks burn at angles, tunnel asymmetrically, and create the candle defect customers complain about most. Reason 3 — they scale. Sticking 100 wick stickers in 10 minutes is production-ready. Hot-gluing 100 wicks takes 45-60 minutes with a hot glue gun and produces inconsistent results.

DIY adhesion (hot glue, wax bead, none)
The failure rate you currently accept
  • Hot glue fails at 60°C — releases wick during pour
  • Wax bead has no shear strength — wick drifts
  • "No adhesion" means wicks land anywhere
  • 15-30% of candles have off-centre wicks
  • Crooked wicks tunnel asymmetrically during burn
  • Customer-visible defects in finished candles
  • Returns and refund requests for "bad burn"
  • Cannot scale beyond 20-30 candles per batch

The double-sided heat-resistant adhesive — what makes it work

CSI wick stickers use a specific adhesive formulation engineered for the candle making temperature range. The adhesive is acrylic-based with cross-linked polymer chains that maintain shear strength up to 100°C — meaning it holds its grip even when the candle jar warms to 70-80°C during pouring and curing. The adhesive layer is sandwiched between two release papers — one side attaches to the metal wick tab, the other side to the glass jar bottom. The bond on both surfaces is permanent once pressed for 10 seconds at room temperature.

This is not the same adhesive as packaging tape or office-grade double-sided tape. Those products use lower-temperature adhesives that begin softening at 50-55°C and fail completely at the temperatures candle making operates at. The ₹100-200 difference between a generic "double-sided sticker" sold at a stationery store and a real candle wick sticker is the difference between an anchor that holds and an anchor that releases mid-pour.

Sticker diameter — match to wick base diameter

Wick stickers come in two standard diameters that match the standard metal wick tab sizes used in Indian candle making. 15mm stickers match the standard wick tab base used for small jars (60-150g candles) and smaller wick sizes (ECO-1 through ECO-6, CD-4 through CD-8). 20mm stickers match the larger wick tab base used for medium-to-large jars (180-400g candles) and larger wick sizes (ECO-8 through ECO-16, CD-10 through CD-18). The sticker diameter should be 1-2mm larger than the wick tab base for full coverage and adhesion margin.

If you are not sure which wick tab size you are using, the simplest test is to place a wick on a 15mm sticker — if the metal base extends beyond the sticker edge, you need 20mm. If the sticker extends well beyond the base, 15mm is correct. Most scaling Indian candle brands stock both sizes — 15mm for their small SKUs (gift candles, sampling sets, travel tins) and 20mm for their flagship SKUs (200-300g feature candles).

How to apply a wick sticker correctly

The application is mechanical and takes about 6-8 seconds per candle once practiced. Step 1 — clean the jar bottom. Wipe the inside of the candle jar with isopropyl alcohol or a dry lint-free cloth. Any oil, dust, or moisture on the glass weakens the adhesive bond. Step 2 — peel one release paper. The sticker has two protective papers. Peel one side and press it onto the metal wick tab base. Step 3 — peel the second release paper. Hold the wick by the top, peel away the remaining paper, and lower the wick tab into the centre of the jar bottom. Step 4 — press and hold for 10 seconds. Use a long pencil, a chopstick, or a dedicated wick-centring tool to press the tab firmly against the glass for 10 seconds. Step 5 — verify centring. Look down into the jar and confirm the wick is positioned in the geometric centre of the base.

CSI Application Tip
The "hold for 10 seconds" step is the one most makers skip — and it is the step that determines whether the adhesive forms a permanent bond. Acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive builds bond strength over the first 10 seconds of contact and reaches full strength over the first hour. If you skip the 10-second press and immediately pour wax, the bond is only at 40-50% strength and can fail. Press firmly, count to 10, and move on.

Bulk packs for production-scale makers

If you are scaling past hobby volumes — 50+ candles per week or 200+ per month — bulk packs are the only sensible purchase. The per-sticker cost drops from ₹1.50-3 at 100-pack pricing to ₹0.90-1.50 at 1000-pack pricing, which is a 30-50% saving on a component you will use on every candle for the rest of your business. Bulk packs also reduce reorder frequency — a 1000 pack supports about 8-10 months of production at 25 candles per week, which means one purchase covers most of a year.

For production-scale brands running 4+ SKU lines or 500+ candles per month, we recommend buying both 15mm and 20mm in 1000-packs to cover the full small-to-large jar range. This is the configuration most scaling D2C candle brands settle on within 6-12 months — and it removes wick adhesion from the list of things that ever need to be thought about during production. WhatsApp +91-7397976926 for bulk pricing on multi-pack orders or custom-sized stickers if you are using non-standard wick tabs.

What happens when you skip wick stickers

Three things happen, in this order. First — the wick drifts during pour. When you pour 80°C wax into the jar, the molten wax exerts buoyancy and lateral flow forces on whatever is anchored at the bottom. Without proper adhesion, the wick tab releases, the wick floats, drifts, and lands wherever the wax current pushed it — usually 5-15mm off-centre. Second — the wick sits crooked. An off-centre wick burns at an angle, which means the melt pool develops asymmetrically. One side of the candle melts faster than the other. The candle tunnels on the slow side and pools too aggressively on the fast side.

Third — the wick mushrooms or sputters during burn. Crooked wicks experience uneven oxygen flow because the flame is no longer centred over the melt pool. This causes carbon deposits to build up at the tip ("mushrooming"), black smoke, and inconsistent burn brightness. If you are dealing with wick mushrooming, the root cause is often wick anchoring upstream of the burn itself — see our candle wick mushrooming blog for the complete diagnosis framework. Anchoring fix is upstream. Mushrooming is downstream.

Drifting wicks. Crooked burns. Mushrooming. Customer returns. All upstream of wick anchoring.

FAQ — every question makers ask before buying wick stickers

Do I really need wick stickers, or can I just use hot glue?
Hot glue fails at 60°C. Wax pour is 80°C. The math is not friendly to hot glue. Within 30 seconds of pouring wax into the jar, hot glue softens enough to release the wick, and the wick drifts off-centre during the cool-down phase. Wick stickers are engineered specifically to hold up to 100°C, which means they survive the entire pour, fragrance-add, and cure cycle without releasing. The ₹150-300 cost of a 100-pack saves dozens of failed candles.
What size sticker do I need — 15mm or 20mm?
Match the sticker diameter to your wick tab base diameter. 15mm stickers fit standard small wick tabs (used for 60-150g candles, ECO-1 to ECO-6, CD-4 to CD-8). 20mm stickers fit standard larger wick tabs (used for 180-400g candles, ECO-8 to ECO-16, CD-10 to CD-18). When in doubt, place a wick on a sticker — if the base extends past the sticker edge you need the larger size; if the sticker extends well past the base you need the smaller size.
How do I apply a wick sticker correctly?
Five steps. Clean the jar bottom with isopropyl alcohol. Peel one release paper and press the sticker onto the wick tab base. Peel the second release paper. Lower the wick tab into the centre of the jar. Press firmly for 10 seconds with a chopstick, pencil, or wick-centring tool. The 10-second press is non-negotiable — it builds the adhesive bond from 40% strength to full strength.
Can I reuse a wick sticker if my first attempt is misaligned?
No. Acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive loses 60-70% of its bond strength after the first peel. If you place a wick sticker off-centre and need to reposition, peel it off, throw it away, and use a fresh sticker. The 3-rupee cost of a new sticker is dramatically cheaper than the cost of a failed candle from a weakened adhesive bond.
Will wick stickers leave residue in the bottom of the jar after the candle burns down?
The sticker stays adhered to the metal wick tab through the full burn cycle. When the customer removes the spent wick tab at the end of the candle, the sticker comes with it. There is no residue left in the jar bottom under normal use. The adhesive is also non-toxic and food-grade safe — many makers use the same sticker on body care and balm production with no issues.
Hobby pack of 100 or production pack of 1000 — which should I start with?
If you are making fewer than 30 candles a month, start with the 100 pack. If you are scaling past 50 candles a month or running a D2C brand, the 500 or 1000 pack is more economical. Per-sticker cost drops 30-50% at the 1000-pack tier, and one 1000-pack supports 8-10 months of small-business production. Most scaling brands buy bulk and never think about wick adhesion again.
Why are my wicks still drifting even with stickers?
Three common causes. One — the jar bottom was not cleaned and oil residue weakened the adhesive bond. Two — the 10-second press was skipped, leaving the bond at 40-50% strength. Three — the sticker is the wrong size (too small for the wick tab base). Clean the jar with isopropyl alcohol, press firmly for 10 full seconds, and confirm sticker diameter matches tab diameter. If all three are correct, drifting stops completely.
Are wick stickers heat-resistant enough for paraffin pour temperatures (70-75°C)?
Yes. CSI wick stickers hold to 100°C, which covers soy (60-65°C pour), coconut blends (62-67°C), and paraffin (70-75°C) with margin. Even the higher-temperature gel candle pours (around 90°C) are within the adhesive tolerance. The only pour application that requires specialised adhesion is wax melts and very high-temperature speciality formulations, which are rare in commercial candle production.
Do I need wick stickers for pillar candles?
No. Pillar candles (free-standing candles without a jar) use a different wicking approach — typically a pre-wicked base hole in the mould. Wick stickers are specifically for container candles (jar candles, tin candles, vessel candles). For pillar candle making, the wick is positioned in the mould before pouring rather than adhered to a surface.
Do you ship pan-India and worldwide?
Yes. Pan-India shipping with reliable courier partners — typical delivery 3-5 working days to metros, 5-8 to tier-2 cities. Wick stickers ship in sealed moisture-resistant packaging to preserve adhesive performance. Worldwide shipping available for international makers — WhatsApp +91-7397976926 for international quotes and lead times.
