How Much Wax Is Needed for 1,000 Candles?
Aktie
What does that cost and how many packs is it? 15 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg + 2 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g of Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 — 19 packs, 157.5 kg, ₹79,921.80, or ₹79.92 of wax per candle. The same 157.5 kg is ₹62,874.00 in Eco Soy CSI 400 and ₹1,00,327.50 in Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468.
How many melts is a thousand candles? About 16 full loads of a melter with a 10 kg stated capacity, or 8 of a 20 kg one, because one 10 kg melt is roughly 63 candles at a 150 g wax weight. CSI does not publish melting or heat-up times, so build your pour calendar from your own equipment.
Does CSI list a pack bigger than 10 kg? For most soy grades the largest listed size is 10 kg. Natural Soy Pearl Wax lists a 50 kg size; availability on the largest sizes is limited, so check the product page. Beyond the listed packs, bulk pricing is not published on the store and is quoted on WhatsApp.
Wax for 1,000 candles, fill size by fill size
One thousand candles at a 150 g wax weight is 150 kg of soy in the jars. Add this page’s 5% wastage assumption and the order is 157.5 kg; round up to the packs CSI lists and you buy 157.5 kg. That is 19 packs, ₹79,921.80 of wax, and — the number nobody plans for — 16 separate melts of a 10 kg melter before the last candle is poured. This page prices and plans the wax line only.
Precision in the per-candle figure matters more here than anywhere else in the series. A 5 g difference in wax weight per candle, well inside the range of two makers filling the same jar to slightly different levels, is 5 kg across a thousand candles — ₹2,537.00 of wax, and half a melt. Weigh three test candles, take the average, and use that number rather than the fill capacity printed on the vessel page.
| Wax per candle | Wax in the candles | With 5% wastage | Packs to buy | Wax you own | 10 kg melts | Wax cost | Per candle |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 70 g | 70 kg | 73.5 kg | 7 × 10 kg + 3 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g | 73.5 kg | 8 | ₹37,300.20 | ₹37.30 |

| 100 g | 100 kg | 105 kg | 10 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg | 105 kg | 11 | ₹53,277.00 | ₹53.28 |

| 150 g | 150 kg | 157.5 kg | 15 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg + 2 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g | 157.5 kg | 16 | ₹79,921.80 | ₹79.92 |

| 200 g | 200 kg | 210 kg | 21 × 10 kg | 210 kg | 21 | ₹1,06,554.00 | ₹106.55 |
| 250 g | 250 kg | 262.5 kg | 26 × 10 kg + 2 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g | 262.5 kg | 27 | ₹1,33,198.80 | ₹133.20 |
The 5% wastage assumption at four-figure volume
This page assumes 5% wastage across a 1,000-candle run, stated plainly as an assumption and not as measured data. CSI publishes no wastage, yield or recovery figure for any wax, and nor does this page pretend to have one. Five per cent is lower than a first hundred-candle run would sensibly use, for the same reason a factory beats a kitchen: the losses that dominate small runs — the film inside the melter and pitcher, the test pours before a batch — are fixed costs in grams, and they divide by a thousand instead of by a hundred.
What does not shrink is the absolute quantity. Five per cent of 150 kg is 7.5 kg — ₹3,805.50 of wax, and about 50 candles’ worth. That is a genuine line in a production budget rather than a rounding allowance, and it is the reason a thousand-candle run deserves one measured wastage figure of its own rather than a number borrowed from a blog.
| Wastage assumed | Wax needed | Buffer in candles | 10 kg melts | Wax cost | Reads as |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0% | 150 kg | none | 15 | ₹76,110.00 | Total recovery. Nobody runs a thousand candles at this figure. |
| 3% | 154.5 kg | 30 candles | 16 | ₹78,399.60 | One size, one scent, a settled line and a practised team. |
| 5% | 157.5 kg | 50 candles | 16 | ₹79,921.80 | This page’s assumption for a planned thousand-candle production run. |
| 8% | 162 kg | 80 candles | 17 | ₹82,198.80 | Several sizes or scents, or a first run at this volume. |
| 10% | 165 kg | 100 candles | 17 | ₹83,721.00 | A festive scramble with remakes, new vessels and long hot holds. |
The whole range is worth ₹7,611.00, and the gap between this page’s 5% and a pessimistic 10% is ₹3,799.20. Notice the fourth column: the melt count barely moves. Wastage changes what you spend; it does not change how long the pour takes. That asymmetry is why a thousand-candle plan should be built around melts and cure days first, with the wastage buffer added as insurance rather than agonised over.
Do not wait until the run is over to find out your real figure. Weigh the first 10 kg pack in, pour it, count the sellable candles out, and multiply the shortfall by sixteen. If pack one yields 63 candles you are on plan; if it yields materially fewer, you have fifteen packs left in which to fix the cause — usually pour temperature, a cold vessel or a pitcher that is not being scraped back. One pack of diagnosis costs ₹5,074.00 and saves the run.
What CSI’s largest listed packs actually cover
For most of CSI’s soy range the largest listed size is 10 kg. One 10 kg pack is about 63 candles at a 150 g wax weight with 5% allowed, so 157.5 kg is fifteen full packs plus the smaller ones that finish the order. Natural Soy Pearl Wax is the one grade that lists a 50 kg size, which changes the shape of the order completely — three of those and a little more cover the same run — although availability on the largest sizes is limited, so check the product page before building a plan around it.
At the other end, Eco Soy CSI 400 lists 1 kg and 5 kg only. It has the lowest listed rate on this page, and it is a perfectly good container wax with a real customer following, but a thousand-candle run in it is 34 separate packs to receive, check, store and open against 19 in CSI 464. That is not a hidden cost CSI can put a number on — it is your time, and it is worth weighing before the rate difference persuades you.
| Soy grade | Largest listed pack | Packs for the run | Best listed rate | Wax cost | Per candle |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Eco Soy CSI 400 | 5 kg | 34 (31 × 5 kg + 3 × 1 kg) | ₹399.20/kg | ₹62,874.00 | ₹62.87 |
| Natural Soy Pearl Wax | 50 kg | 7 (3 × 50 kg + 1 × 5 kg + 3 × 1 kg) | ₹424.80/kg | ₹66,906.00 | ₹66.91 |
| Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 | 10 kg | 19 (15 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg + 2 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g) | ₹507.40/kg | ₹79,915.50 | ₹79.92 |
| Luxury Soy Wax Chunks | 10 kg | 19 (15 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg + 2 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g) | ₹599.00/kg | ₹94,342.50 | ₹94.34 |
| Soy Pillar Wax | 10 kg | 19 (15 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg + 2 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g) | ₹600.00/kg | ₹94,500.00 | ₹94.50 |
| Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468 | 10 kg | 19 (15 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg + 2 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g) | ₹637.00/kg | ₹1,00,327.50 | ₹100.33 |
| Premium Coconut Soy Wax | 1 kg | 158 (157 × 1 kg + 1 × 500g) | ₹920.00/kg | ₹1,44,900.00 | ₹144.90 |
| Soy Butter Wax | 1 kg | 158 (157 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 gram) | ₹1,097.40/kg | ₹1,72,840.50 | ₹172.84 |
Where a bulk quote belongs. A thousand candles is past the point where the store’s pack list was designed to be the whole answer. CSI does not publish bulk rates, minimum order quantities, freight terms or discounts, and this page will not invent them. One of our own reviewers puts the request politely — “Hope to get some discount in future for bulk buys” — and the honest response is that the conversation happens on WhatsApp +91 7397976926, with GST invoicing and MSDS and IFRA documentation available on request. Ask before you cost the job, not after you quote it.
Melter throughput: what 157.5 kg actually costs you in time
Here is the part of a thousand-candle plan that most quantity guides skip. Wax is bought by weight and poured by melter-load, and the two numbers are not the same shape. At a 150 g wax weight with 5% allowed, one full 10 kg melter is about 63 candles, so 157.5 kg is 16 melt cycles. Each cycle is a heat-up, a hold, a dose of fragrance, a pour and a cool-down. Whatever those take in your studio, multiply by sixteen and you have your pour calendar.
| Wax per candle | Candles per 10 kg melt | Wax for 1,000 candles | Melts of 10 kg |
|---|---|---|---|
| 70 g | 136 | 73.5 kg | 8 |
| 100 g | 95 | 105 kg | 11 |
| 150 g | 63 | 157.5 kg | 16 |
| 200 g | 47 | 210 kg | 21 |
| 250 g | 38 | 262.5 kg | 27 |
What CSI does not publish, a customer does. A review of the imported melter reports that “10 kgs of wax melts in mere 20-30 minutes” — one maker’s own experience with their own supply, not a CSI specification and not a promise. Take it as an order of magnitude rather than a number to plan by: if sixteen melts each need somewhere around half an hour of melting before anything is poured, the melting alone is most of a working day, and it is a day that has to happen before the cure clock can even start.
The choice of melter is therefore a throughput decision, not a comfort one. A 20 kg stated capacity halves the cycle count from 16 to 8. The Electric Wax Melter (Imported) lists both sizes — ₹21,240.00 for the 10 kgs capacity and ₹25,960.00 for the 20 kgs, with the larger size in short supply, so check the page before planning on it. Set against the ₹79,921.80 of wax in a single thousand-candle run, a 10 kg melter is about ₹26.58% of one run’s wax spend and is used on every run after it. Double boiler versus electric melter makes the wider case.
Two practical notes that are not equipment purchases. First, a melter is only as useful as the pour that follows it: a Steel Pouring Pitcher 600 ML at ₹708.00, a Wax Pouring Funnel at ₹1,888.00 and a Pen Thermometer at ₹354.00 are what turn a full melter into filled jars without a table full of spillage — and spillage is exactly the wastage line this page has been budgeting. Second, wax held hot for hours while you work through a slow pour is wax treated differently from wax poured promptly; plan melts you can actually pour out, rather than filling the melter because it is there.
Turning 157.5 kg into a pour calendar
One more scheduling reality that the kilogram figure hides: 157.5 kg of wax has to live somewhere between arrival and the last melt, and a thousand cured candles have to live somewhere between the last pour and dispatch. The second is usually the harder problem, because cured candles take far more shelf space than the wax they came from. Neither storage nor dispatch is a CSI cost, and neither is estimated on this page — but both belong in the plan before the wax is ordered.
What the grade choice costs across a thousand candles
Across 157.5 kg the grade spread finally becomes a business number. ₹17,041.50 separates Eco Soy CSI 400 from Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464; ₹14,427.00 separates CSI 464 from Luxury Soy Wax Chunks; ₹20,412.00 separates it from Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468. Per candle those are small sums, but on a run this size they are the kind of figure a buyer notices when they compare two quotations.
The honest counterweight, from the supplier selling all of them: a grade change is a reformulation, not a substitution. The stated fragrance ceilings differ — CSI 464 publishes up to 10% of wax weight, Luxury Soy Wax Chunks and CSI 468 up to 13%, and Eco Soy CSI 400 does not publish one, so ask on WhatsApp before planning a load on it. The working temperatures differ. The finish and the glass adhesion differ. Change the grade and you change the wick test, the scent load and the cure behaviour with it, on a thousand candles you have already sold.
Where the grade choice genuinely pays at this volume is the shape of the pack list rather than the rate. A grade with a 10 kg pack turns 157.5 kg into 19 items to receive and open; a grade capped at 5 kg turns it into 34; and Natural Soy Pearl Wax, with a 50 kg size listed, turns it into 7. If you are running a thousand candles a quarter rather than once, that difference repeats — and it is worth more than the per-kilo gap between two grades that both do the job.
CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA sells every wax and every melter on this page, and the page still refuses to guess what a reader most wants guessed. CSI publishes no melting time, so the only melt-rate figure quoted here is a customer’s own review, labelled as such. CSI publishes no bulk rate, so a thousand-candle job is costed at the listed ₹507.40 per kilo and readers are told to get a quote in writing before they quote their own. The page also says that the cheapest grade is 34 packs to open against 19, which is a cost we cannot put a rupee figure on and you can.
Every price is live CSI stock in September 2026, taxes included, and the linked product pages are authoritative if anything changes. The 5% wastage figure is an assumption stated by this page, not measured data, with 0%, 3%, 8% and 10% shown alongside it. Melter capacities are quoted exactly as the product pages state them — 10 kgs and 20 kgs for the imported melter, 1 litre for the mini melter, whose kilogram equivalent is not published and is therefore left out of the throughput table. Melting times, heat-up times, pour rates, pack dimensions, freight terms, minimum orders and bulk rates are not published and are not estimated. Fragrance ceilings are the manufacturer’s stated formulation maximums printed on each page. Outer cartons, mailers, labels, courier, electricity, labour and storage are not CSI costs and are never estimated here.
