When the oil is already bought, run the maths backwards: oil ÷ oil per candle gives the candles, and the candles size the wax, jars and wicks. Tests come out of the oil too.
99 candles
poured from an example 1.75 kg of owned oil at 200 g and 8% · 90 to sell · wax, jars and wicks ₹17,386.40 · CSI live pricing, October 2026
Quick answers — read this first
How do I size wax and jars to my oil? Candles = owned oil ÷ oil per candle poured (17.52 g at 200 g, 8%, with allowances). Then wax, jars and wicks for those candles.

What does the example make? 1 kg Lavender, 500 g Roasted Coffee and 250 g Dark Vanilla → 99 poured, 90 saleable after a six-candle ladder and three confirmations.

What do I buy? 2 × 10 kg Soy Pearl, 101 White Matte jars, a wick ladder, production wicks and stickers: ₹17,386.40.

Should I stretch the oil with a lower load? No. Set the load from your tests and the wax's stated ceiling; a weaker candle to save oil costs more than the oil.
The short answer
Answer: Let the owned oil set the quantity: candles = oil ÷ (fill × load, plus allowances). Size wax, jars and wicks to those candles, and buy more oil — not more wax — if you want more candles.
Numbers: Example: 1.75 kg of oil → 99 candles poured, 90 to sell; wax 19,942 g, 101 jars, 105 wicks; CSI total ₹17,386.40.
Method: Weigh bottles → choose load and format → candles per scent → ladder in the largest stock → wax, jars, wicks to match → optional top-up of the smallest stock.
Start from the oil you own: it decides the candle count, and everything else follows Example stock · 200 g candles at 8% · 17.52 g of oil per candle poured, incl. re-pour and pour-loss allowances Lavender 1,000 g owned 57 poured 50 to sell Roasted Coffee 500 g owned 28 poured 27 to sell Dark Vanilla 250 g owned 14 poured 13 to sell SIZE THE REST TO IT 99 candles poured wax 19,942 g 101 jars 105 wicks + stickers Soy Pearl route ₹17,386.40 Same oil, other choices: at 10% it scents 78 candles of 200 g; at 6% 133; in 85 g tins at 8%, 234. Test candles come out of the owned oil too — the ladder is poured in the largest stock.
Owned oil stock (bottle fill shows grams, out of 1 kg) sets the candles poured and sold for each scent; the bought materials are then sized to the total. The stock, the 200 g fill and the allowances are labelled examples — weigh your bottles and one filled jar.
Straight answer
I already have fragrance oils but need wax, jars and wicks — how do I choose quantities based on the fragrance inventory I already own?
Run the calculation backwards: the oil you own sets the number of candles, and the candles set the wax, jars and wicks. Weigh each bottle, then divide by the oil each candle consumes — fill × load, plus re-pour and pour-loss allowances, 17.52 g for a 200 g candle at 8%. With an example stock of 1 kg Lavender, 500 g Roasted Coffee and 250 g Dark Vanilla that is 99 candles poured; take out a six-candle wick ladder (poured in the largest stock) and one confirmation per scent and 90 are saleable. Size the rest to the 99: Natural Soy Pearl 2 × 10 kg, 101 White Matte jars, a wick ladder then production wicks, and stickers — ₹17,386.40. Want more candles? Buy more oil first, not more wax.
One line: the owned material sets the quantity; everything you buy is sized to it.
Your oil decides the quantity. With an example stock of 1 kg Lavender, 500 g Roasted Coffee and 250 g Dark Vanilla, 200 g candles at 8% give 99 candles poured and 90 to sell. To match it: Natural Soy Pearl Wax 2 × 10 kg, 101 White Matte jars, a wick ladder then production wicks, and stickers — ₹17,386.40 at CSI. Soy Pearl is the CSI soy wax with a real bulk break: ₹424.80 a kilo from 5 kg.

How many candles your oil can scent

When the fragrance is already bought, the question flips: not "how much oil do I need" but "how many candles will my oil make".

The title does not say how much oil you own, so this page uses an example stock: 1 kg of Lavender, 500 g of Roasted Coffee and a part-used 250 g of Dark Vanilla. Replace it with your own weighed stock. The arithmetic runs backwards from the oil: each candle poured consumes its oil share (fill × load) plus the same re-pour and pour-loss allowances as everywhere else in this series — 17.52 g per 200 g candle at 8%.

Owned oil ÷ oil per candle poured · 5% reject (re-poured) and 4% pour-loss allowances included · rounded down to whole candles
The same owned stock, different formats and loads
Format 6% load 8% load 10% load
200 g White Matte jar (illustrative fill) 133 99 78
85 g Golden Aluminium Tin (published fill) 312 234 186

Two levers move the count a long way. Load: the same 1.75 kg of oil scents 133 candles of 200 g at 6% but only 78 at 10%. Format: in CSI's 85 g Golden Aluminium Tin (the one CSI container with a published fill) it scents 234 at 8%. Choose the load from your own tests and the wax's stated ceiling (CSI 464 up to 10%; Chunks and CSI 468 up to 13%; Soy Pearl none published), not to stretch the oil — a weak candle sold is a customer lost.

The CSI principle
The material you already own is the one that sets the quantity.
Size every material you buy to the candles your owned stock can make — never buy wax and jars first and then discover the oil runs out.

The worked plan: oil first, then everything else

The plan uses one format — 200 g in the White Matte Glass Jar, at an illustrative fill (CSI does not publish fill weights for its glass jars (only the 85 g Golden Aluminium Tin and the 50 g Heart Cutout Velvet Jar have published fills); weigh one test pour) — because mixing formats would add a second wick ladder (why one jar is cheaper). The wick ladder (six candles) is poured in the largest stock, Lavender, so the smaller stocks lose only their one confirmation candle each.

200 g at 8% · 17.52 g oil per candle poured · tests come out of the owned oil
Owned oil → candles poured → candles to sell
Owned oil Stock Candles poured Of which tests Saleable Oil left after pour
Lavender 1,000 g 57 7 50 1.6 g
Roasted Coffee 500 g 28 1 27 9.6 g
Dark Vanilla 250 g 14 1 13 4.8 g
Total 1,750 g 99 9 90

Every scent ends with a few grams spare — the rounding-down margin — which is fine to keep for a re-pour or a bench test. The total is 99 candles poured, which now sizes the wax, jars and wicks. Re-poured rejects go back into a cleaned jar, so jars carry breakage only; wicks and wax carry the re-pour allowance.

Allowance stack for the bought materials · rates are labelled working assumptions
From 99 candles poured to quantities to buy
Material Rule Quantity
Wax 99 ÷ (1 − 5%) × 184 g × (1 + 4%) 19,942 g
Jars 99 × (1 + 2%) breakage 101
Wicks 99 ÷ (1 − 5%) 105
Stickers 1 per wick, sheets of 40 105
Buying a round 100 jars and 20 kg of wax "to match the oil later". Round numbers feel safe, but the oil can only scent 99 candles here, so anything beyond that is jars and wax with no fragrance to go in them. Fix: size jars and wax to the candles the oil makes; if you want more candles, buy more oil first — it is the scarce input. Minimum leftover shows how to land pack sizes close to the need.

The priced wax, jar and wick order

Wax is the one material with a real choice of price structure. Soy Pearl is ₹450.00 a kilo at 1 kg and ₹424.80 from 5 kg — the only CSI soy wax with a bulk break — while CSI 464 is flat at ₹507.40. CSI's product page publishes no fragrance ceiling, melt point or pour temperature for Soy Pearl, so confirm 8% in your ladder and ask on WhatsApp for the maker's stated maximum; CSI 464's page states up to 10%. CSI publishes no data that makes either wax better in your jar.

The owned oil still has a value — at CSI's current listed prices the example stock would cost about ₹9,086.00 to replace — and it belongs in your candle costing even though it is not on this order.

Balance the range, or accept uneven stock?

A 250 g bottle next to a 1 kg bottle makes an uneven collection. Sometimes that is fine.

The example stock gives 50 Lavender, 27 Roasted Coffee and only 13 Dark Vanilla candles. If you want the three scents to sell side by side, the cheapest fix is to top up the small stock, not to cut the large one. Bringing Dark Vanilla up to 27 saleable candles needs 240.4 g more oil.

Optional top-up · Dark Vanilla to 27 saleable · CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026, stock re-checked 4 October 2026 · wax at Soy Pearl's 10 kg rate
What balancing costs
Line Quantity CSI cost
Dark Vanilla 240.4 g → 2 × 100 g + 1 × 50 g ₹1,990.00
Extra wax, jars and wicks 14 more candles about ₹2,276.10
Total to balance about ₹4,266.10

Whether that is worth it depends on how you sell. A market stall with a "limited batch" scent can live with 13 candles; a website with equal photographs of three scents probably cannot. Dark Vanilla's per-gram price barely drops with size (₹7.90 at 100 g, ₹7.65 at 1 kg), so there is no bulk reason to buy more than the top-up needs. Do it after the ladder, once you know the wick — the extra candles use the same approved wick.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. You already own the oil, so this order sells you only wax, jars and wicks — and we recommend the cheaper Soy Pearl route over CSI 464 unless your ladder says otherwise. We also suggest not topping up Dark Vanilla at all if uneven stock suits how you sell. The cheapest candle range is the one built from what is already on your shelf.

Check the oil before you build around it

Owned oil has a history you need to know before you size a whole order around it. How long has it been open, how has it been stored, and do you have its documents? CSI does not publish shelf lives for its fragrance oils, so judge the stock by its storage (cool, dark, tightly closed) and confirm it in the test candles: if a confirmation candle smells noticeably weaker than you expect, find out before pouring the batch.

1
Weigh every bottleWeigh each bottle and subtract an empty bottle of the same size. Labels say what was bought, not what is left.
2
Decide the load and formatUse the capacity table: the load is set by your test and the wax's stated ceiling, the format by your range. Then compute candles per scent.
3
Pour the ladder in the largest stockSix candles — three Eco Thin C1, three Thick C2 — in Lavender at 8%, so the small stocks are not used up on wick testing.
4
Pour one confirmation per scentWith the winning wick. It checks the oil as much as the wick: an old or poorly stored oil shows up here.
5
Buy production wicks and pourOnly the winning wick type. Pour each scent until its oil is used, re-pouring rejects into cleaned jars.
6
Record oil used per candleDivide the oil actually used by candles poured. If it differs from 17.52 g, update the plan for the next order.
Documents for oils you already own
For oils bought from CSI, ask on WhatsApp for the MSDS and IFRA documentation. For oils from another supplier, ask them. CSI publishes no per-oil IFRA percentage or flash point on this page, and you should not guess either.

— CandleMakingSuppliesIndia

If you have several more oils than you can use in one run, treat them as a queue rather than a reason to buy more wax: pour the scents with the most stock first and keep the small bottles for bench tests. Candles and wax melts from the same oils shows another way to use up uneven stock, and one oil across three products combines the BOMs.

Frequently asked questions

How many candles does 1 kg of fragrance oil make?
At 200 g and 8% with re-pour and loss allowances, about 57 poured candles. At 85 g, about 134. Without allowances, 1,000 ÷ 16 = 62.5.
How much wax do I need for 500 g of fragrance oil?
At 8%, wax is 11.5 times the oil by weight (92 ÷ 8). 500 g of oil goes with about 5.75 kg of wax before allowances.
Can I lower the fragrance load to make my oil go further?
You can, but the candle changes. Choose the load from your burn tests and the wax's stated ceiling, not from the oil you have left.
Do old fragrance oils still work in candles?
CSI publishes no oil shelf lives. Store oils cool, dark and closed, and confirm each one in a test candle before pouring a batch.
Which soy wax is cheapest per kilo at CSI?
Natural Soy Pearl: ₹450.00 a kilo at 1 kg and ₹424.80 from 5 kg. It publishes no fragrance ceiling — confirm your load in tests.
Should I top up a small fragrance stock?
Only if you need an even range. In the example, balancing Dark Vanilla costs about ₹4,266.10 including the extra wax, jars and wicks.
