A 200 g candle holds 184 g of wax, so every ₹1 off a kilo is ₹0.184 off a candle. On 1,000 candles a ₹20 wholesale discount is worth ₹3,864.00; ₹50 is ₹9,660.00. It matters from about ₹50 a kilo — on the wax you already use.

saved per 200 g candle by a ₹20/kg wax discount (reader's example) · materials ≈ ₹214.67 · CSI live pricing
Quick answers — read this first
Does wholesale wax reduce COGS enough to matter? From about ₹50/kg up, on the same wax. ₹20/kg is ₹3.68 a candle (1.7% of materials); ₹50 is ₹9.20; ₹100 is ₹18.40.

How much wax for 1,000 candles? 184.00 kg net at 200 g and 8%; 193.20 kg with a 5% allowance.

What real bulk steps does CSI have? Natural Soy Pearl ₹25.20/kg at 5 kg (₹4.64 a candle) and CSI 468 ₹13.00/kg at 5 kg. Chunks 10 kg is dearer per kg than 5 kg; CSI 464 is flat.

Is there a bigger lever? Rejects: 5% → 2% is worth about ₹6.92 per saleable candle — similar to a ₹38/kg wax discount.
The short answer
Answer: Convert per-kg to per-candle (× 0.184 kg). ₹50/kg+ on the same wax matters (≈ ₹9.20 a candle); ₹20/kg is minor; a different wax must be qualified first.
COGS: Materials per 200 g candle: Soy Pearl ₹214.67, CSI 464 ₹229.87, Chunks ₹246.72, CSI 468 ₹253.72. The jar is the biggest line.
Order: Soy Pearl 3 × 50 kg + 4 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg = ₹82,836.00; CSI 468 19 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg = ₹1,24,215.00.
What each lever takes off one 200 g candle Materials per candle ≈ ₹214.67 (Soy Pearl 5 kg rate, Roasted Coffee 1 kg, Eco wick, White Matte jar) · excludes labour, packaging, freight, GST Wax ₹100/kg off (reader's example) ₹18.40 (8.6%) Wax ₹50/kg off (reader's example) ₹9.20 (4.3%) Rejects 5% → 2% (example) ₹6.92 (3.2%) Soy Pearl 1 kg → 5 kg bags (CSI, real) ₹4.64 (2.2%) Wax ₹20/kg off (reader's example) ₹3.68 (1.7%) Oil 100 g → 1 kg bottles (CSI, real) ₹2.59 (1.2%) CSI 468 1 kg → 5 kg bags (CSI, real) ₹2.39 (1.1%) lever available on CSI's listed prices or in your own process reader's hypothetical wholesale discount — a quote, not a CSI price On 1,000 candles (193.20 kg of wax with a 5% allowance) a ₹20/kg discount is ₹3,864.00; ₹50/kg is ₹9,660.00; ₹100/kg is ₹19,320.00. Cutting rejects from 5% to 2% is worth about as much per saleable candle as a ₹38/kg wax discount — and needs no new supplier.
Rupees taken off one 200 g candle by each lever, against materials of about ₹214.67. White bars are the reader's hypothetical wholesale discounts; black bars are levers available today on CSI's listed prices or in your own process. Cutting rejects from 5% to 2% sits between a ₹20 and a ₹50 wax discount — and needs no new supplier.
Straight answer
I have a 1,000-candle order — how do I calculate whether buying wax wholesale actually reduces COGS enough to matter?
Convert the discount into rupees per saleable candle and compare it with your full cost per candle — it matters from about ₹50 a kilo, and only for the wax you already use. A 200 g candle at 8% holds 184 g of wax, so each ₹1 off a kilo is ₹0.184 off a candle. On materials of about ₹214.67 (Natural Soy Pearl at ₹424.80/kg, Roasted Coffee at its 1 kg rate, a ₹5.90 wick and a ₹70.80 jar), a ₹20/kg discount saves ₹3.68 a candle (1.7%), ₹50 saves ₹9.20 and ₹100 saves ₹18.40; across the order's 193.20 kg of wax that is ₹3,864.00, ₹9,660.00 and ₹19,320.00. Wax is only about a third of materials — the jar is bigger — and cutting rejects from 5% to 2% is worth about ₹6.92 per saleable candle with no new supplier. On CSI's list the real steps are small and automatic: Natural Soy Pearl drops ₹25.20/kg at 5 kg and CSI 468 ₹13.00/kg; Chunks get dearer in the 10 kg bag. A wholesale quote for a different wax saves nothing until it has passed a qualification.
One line: ₹20 a kilo is ₹3.68 a candle — know that before you change anything for it.
For a 1,000-candle order of 200 g candles at 8%, you need 184.00 kg of wax net and about 193.20 kg with a 5% allowance. In Natural Soy Pearl Wax that is 3 × 50 kg + 4 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg = ₹82,836.00 at ₹424.80 a kilo (50 kg bags in limited stock — confirm on WhatsApp; 19 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg costs the same). That is the biggest real per-kilo step on CSI's soy list, and it starts at 5 kg.
Buy Natural Soy Pearl Wax

The short answer: it matters at ₹50 a kilo and up — and only if it is the same wax

A wax discount is quoted per kilo. Your margin is earned per candle. Convert before you celebrate.

A 200 g candle at an 8% load holds 184 g of wax. So every ₹1 off a kilogram of wax takes ₹0.184 off a candle. On a 1,000-candle order, a ₹20-a-kilo wholesale discount — the kind of figure suppliers often quote — saves ₹3.68 a candle, 1.7% of the materials, and ₹3,864.00 on the whole order once the 5% allowance is included. A ₹50 discount saves ₹9.20 a candle (₹9,660.00 on the order); ₹100 saves ₹18.40 (₹19,320.00). These discounts are your hypothetical figures — CSI publishes no volume discount, and anything above its listed packs is a WhatsApp quote.

Whether that "matters" depends on two things: your margin, and whether the cheaper wax is the same wax. Against an example ₹799 selling price — one of the price points used across this series — a ₹20 discount moves gross margin on materials by 0.46% of the selling price; ₹50 by 1.15%; ₹100 by 2.30%. Useful at ₹50 and above, nice-to-have at ₹20. But if the wholesale price is for a different wax, none of that saving is real until the new wax has passed a qualification and its own wick check — and a failed test or a reject spike eats the saving quickly.

There is a lever worth comparing it with. Cutting your cosmetic reject rate from 5% to 2% lowers the material cost of each saleable candle by about ₹6.92 — roughly what a ₹38-a-kilo wax discount would do, with no new supplier and no new wax. Including rework and rejects in the true wax cost and whether a dearer wax with fewer rejects improves margin work through that side.

The CSI principle
Price the discount per saleable candle, then ask whether it is the same wax. Only then is it a saving.
₹20 a kilo is ₹3.68 a candle. Worth asking for; rarely worth changing wax for.

The COGS of one candle, wax by wax

Here is the material cost of one 200 g candle in each CSI container soy wax, at the lowest listed per-kilo rate you can buy it at for an order this size. The oil is Roasted Coffee at its 1 kg rate (₹3.74 a gram), the wick is an Eco Thin C1 from the 1,000-pack (₹5.90 each — the same per-wick price as the 10-pack), and the jar is the White Matte at ₹70.80. Labour, packaging, freight and GST are excluded.

One 200 g candle at 8%: where the money goes
Wax (rate used) Wax 184 g Oil 16 g Wick Jar Total Wax share
Soy Pearl (₹424.80/kg) ₹78.16 ₹59.81 ₹5.90 ₹70.80 ₹214.67 36.4%
CSI 464 (₹507.40/kg) ₹93.36 ₹59.81 ₹5.90 ₹70.80 ₹229.87 40.6%
Chunks (₹599.00/kg) ₹110.22 ₹59.81 ₹5.90 ₹70.80 ₹246.72 44.7%
CSI 468 (₹637.00/kg) ₹117.21 ₹59.81 ₹5.90 ₹70.80 ₹253.72 46.2%

Two things stand out. The jar is the biggest single line in every row — 33.0% of the Pearl candle — and the wax is only 36.4% to 46.2% of materials. So a discount on wax is a discount on a third of your cost at most. And the gap between waxes — ₹39.04 a candle from CSI 468 to Natural Soy Pearl — is bigger than most wholesale discounts on any one of them. That is not a reason to switch wax; it is a reason to know that choosing a wax is the larger decision and buying it in bulk the smaller one. Lowest cost per kilo versus lowest cost per saleable candle explains why the cheapest wax per kilo is not automatically cheapest per candle.

Quoting the discount as a percentage of the wrong thing. A supplier offers "10% off wax" and the maker tells customers their candles got 10% cheaper to make. Wax is about a third of materials, so 10% off wax is roughly 3% off materials — less once labour and packaging are counted. Fix: always convert a wax discount into rupees per saleable candle and divide by your full cost per candle, not the wax line.

Wholesale discounts, converted to the whole order

On 1,000 candles, the difference between ₹20 and ₹100 a kilo is the difference between a dinner and a month's jars.

The table takes the reader's hypothetical discounts and the two real per-kilo steps on CSI's soy list, and converts each into rupees per candle, rupees on this 1,000-candle order (193.20 kg of wax including the 5% allowance), share of the Pearl candle's materials, and points of margin against an example ₹799 selling price. The real CSI steps are small because CSI's list is mostly flat above 5 kg; that is exactly why they arrive automatically once you buy 5 kg bags.

Reader's hypotheticals vs CSI's listed steps · 1,000 candles · materials base = Soy Pearl candle ₹214.67 · example selling price ₹799
Does the discount move COGS enough to matter?
Discount Per candle On this order Share of materials Margin points at ₹799
₹20.00/kg (reader's example) ₹3.68 ₹3,864.00 1.7% 0.46
₹50.00/kg (reader's example) ₹9.20 ₹9,660.00 4.3% 1.15
₹100.00/kg (reader's example) ₹18.40 ₹19,320.00 8.6% 2.30
Soy Pearl 1 kg → 5 kg (CSI, ₹25.20/kg) ₹4.64 ₹4,868.64 2.2% 0.58
CSI 468 1 kg → 5 kg (CSI, ₹13.00/kg) ₹2.39 ₹2,511.60 0.9% 0.30
Chunks 5 kg → 10 kg (CSI, −₹0.90/kg) −₹0.17 −₹173.88 dearer —

At an example ₹799 price, the material margin on a Soy Pearl candle is 73.1%; a ₹50-a-kilo discount lifts it to 74.3%. On a CSI 468 candle the margin is 68.2% and the same discount lifts it to 69.4%. These are material-only margins — labour, packaging, freight, platform fees and GST come off afterwards — so the discount's share of your real margin is larger than these points suggest. What ₹20, ₹50 or ₹100 a kilo does to 100 kg runs the same conversion at 100 kg, and the ₹40-a-kilo saving post asks how many candles it takes to matter.

Ask for the discount in rupees per kilo, in writing
"Wholesale price" means nothing until it is a number per kilogram for a stated quantity and a stated wax. Ask for exactly that, then convert it with this page's table. CSI quotes quantities above its listed packs on WhatsApp; no discount figure is published, so compare whatever comes back with your 5 kg rate, not the 1 kg rate.

Other levers on the same order

Before you chase a wholesale wax price, compare it with the other levers that move the same COGS. Some are on CSI's list today; some are in your own process. The diagram above ranks them per candle; the table below adds what each costs you to pull.

Per 200 g candle · example reject rates are labelled · jar and wick changes need their own tests
Levers on a 1,000-candle order

Rejects 5% → 2% (example) ₹6.92 ₹6,917.44 Process work: temperatures, cooling, wick centring
Soy Pearl in 5 kg bags, not 1 kg ₹4.64 ₹4,868.64 Nothing — it is CSI's listed ladder
Oil in 1 kg bottles, not 100 g ₹2.59 ₹2,592.00 Nothing for Roasted Coffee; many CSI oils are flat above 100 g
Wicks in 1,000-packs ₹0.00 ₹0.00 Eco Thin C1 is ₹5.90 a wick at every pack size
Switching to a cheaper wax up to ₹39.04 up to ₹39,044.80 A full qualification and wick check — 5459
Switching wax for a discount in the middle of an order. A maker is halfway through 1,000 candles when a cheaper wax is offered, and pours the second half in it. Two waxes are now in one customer order, untested side by side. Fix: finish the order in the approved wax. Qualify the cheaper wax afterwards — a bench comparison costs about ₹1,837.00 in materials — and switch for the next order only if it passes.

Whatever you buy: check before the order is poured

If the wholesale offer is the same wax in a bigger quantity, the check is short: three candles from the new delivery beside three controls from your retained, approved stock, same oil lot, wick, jar and day. If the offer is a different wax, it is a qualification: at least four candles in the new wax and four controls (three burned, one on the shelf), with a full-life burn, before any production order. CSI publishes no lot numbers or batch-consistency data, so neither check can be skipped on our say-so.

1

Argued against our own interest, plainly. A 1,000-candle order is a large wax sale and it would be convenient to call any bulk price "a big saving". It mostly is not: on CSI's list the only real soy-wax step is Natural Soy Pearl's ₹25.20 a kilo at 5 kg, worth ₹4.64 a candle, and our Chunks 10 kg bag is dearer per kilo than the 5 kg. A wholesale quote from anyone — us included — matters at ₹50 a kilo and up, on the same wax, after a check.

For the reader who asked: wholesale wax reduces COGS by about ₹3.68–₹18.40 a candle at ₹20–₹100 a kilo — enough to matter at ₹50 and above, provided it is the wax you already use. For this order, buy the approved wax at its lowest listed step: in Natural Soy Pearl, 3 × 50 kg + 4 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg (₹82,836.00); in CSI 468, 19 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg (₹1,24,215.00). With Roasted Coffee, wicks and jars the Soy Pearl order comes to ₹2,22,404.00 in materials. Ask on WhatsApp for a quote above the listed packs and convert whatever comes back with the table above. Buffering a 75 kg order and rounding 92 kg to real packs cover the quantity side.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. A large order is where a supplier is most tempted to oversell "bulk savings". We show that the only real soy-wax step on our list is worth a few rupees a candle, that our 10 kg Chunks bag is dearer per kilo than the 5 kg, and that a reject-rate fix can beat a discount.

Wax prices are CSI live pricing re-checked on 1 October 2026; oil prices were pulled on 24 September 2026; wick and jar prices are Blog 760's, verified 10 September 2026, with wick packs rechecked 25 September 2026. Per-candle costs, order totals, discount conversions and margins are arithmetic shown to two decimals.

The ₹20, ₹50 and ₹100 per-kg discounts are the reader's hypotheticals, not CSI prices; CSI publishes no volume discount. Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate wax cost per candle?
Wax grams per candle × price per gram. A 200 g candle at 8% has 184 g of wax; at ₹424.80/kg that is ₹78.16, at ₹599.00/kg ₹110.22.
How much does a ₹50 per kg wax discount save per candle?
₹9.20 on a 200 g candle at 8% (184 g × ₹0.05). On 1,000 candles with a 5% allowance, ₹9,660.00.
How much soy wax do I need for 1,000 candles?
184.00 kg for 200 g candles at 8% fragrance load, or 193.20 kg with a 5% allowance for pour loss and tests.
Does CSI give wholesale discounts on soy wax?
CSI publishes no volume discount. Listed bags go to 10 kg (Natural Soy Pearl to 50 kg); larger quantities are quoted on WhatsApp. The listed per-kg steps are Soy Pearl ₹450.00 → ₹424.80 and CSI 468 ₹650.00 → ₹637.00 at 5 kg.
What is the biggest cost in a soy jar candle?
In the examples here, the jar: ₹70.80 of about ₹214.67–₹253.72 in materials. Wax is roughly 36%–46%.
Should I switch to a cheaper wax for a big order?
Not mid-order. Finish in the approved wax, qualify the cheaper one beside controls, and switch for the next order only if it passes. The cost-per-saleable-candle post shows why.
Per candle, not per kilo
Convert every discount to rupees per saleable candle. Then decide.

Customer reviews: The six reviews at the top of this page are genuine, published Judge.me reviews left by CSI customers on the product pages named on each card — Eco Candle Wicks, Premium Candle Wicking Needle and Bamboo Wick Holder. They are general product reviews, not assessments of the guidance set out here. Names, star ratings, dates and products are as recorded by Judge.me and wording is unedited. "Verified buyer" appears only on the three reviews Judge.me recorded as verified — Monika Deep, Subhankar Roy and Sneha Tamang; the reviews from Ashwini, LJ and Lalitha Jagan are published but not recorded as verified, and carry no badge.

Non-price figures and assumptions: 1,000 candles is the reader's figure. CSI convention: load is a share of the finished candle (200 g at 8% = 16 g oil + 184 g wax). The 5% allowance, ₹20/₹50/₹100 per-kg discounts (reader's hypotheticals), 5% and 2% reject rates, ₹799 example selling price and check practices are labelled examples. CSI 468's product page states melting point 50–53°C, pour 58–60°C, up to 13% load and 60-month shelf life; Natural Soy Pearl has no published melt point, pour temperature or fragrance ceiling. Material costs and margins exclude labour, packaging, freight and GST. Diwali 2026 falls on 8 November.
