to spend now on an 800-votive order with an unvalidated wick — of ₹95,007.52 for the whole order · CSI pricing, October 2026
Quick answers — read this first
What should I delay buying? The production wick, always. The bulk oil if the fix might be a lower load. The bulk wax if the fix might be a different wax and the wax is not shared with your other products.

What can I buy now? Lines no fix changes: jars (if the jar is fixed) and wick stickers — ₹28,750.00 here — plus a ₹1,428.92 kit to test two backup wicks.

How much is at risk if I buy everything? The wick (₹4,956.00) for certain if it fails; about ₹3,306.52 of oil if the load drops to 7%; up to ₹35,685.00 of wax if the wax must change.

How do I protect the delivery date? Test the backup wicks in parallel now, so their full-life results arrive close behind the current one.
The short answer
Answer: Delay the production wick, and delay the bulk wax and oil until you know the fix will not change them. Buy jars and stickers now, and test two backup wicks in parallel.
Why: A different wick changes only the wick line; a lower load changes the oil; no working wick can change the wax or jar. You do not know which until the full-life candle finishes.
Plan: Stage A test kit (₹1,428.92) → stage B jars and stickers → stage C wax, oil and wick the day a wick passes. Size the production wick.
If the full-life candle fails, which purchases could the fix change? Example: 800 × 70 g votives (illustrative) · CSI 468 · Lemongrass and Lime 8% · current wick Eco Thin C1 not yet passed Wick Oil qty Wax Jar Stickers Wick too small: tunnels, pool never reaches the edge Wick too large: tall flame, soot, hot glass Soot / mushrooming only at your load Every candidate wick runs hot late in the jar changes may change unchanged The wick column is never blank. The stickers column always is.
Which purchases each kind of full-life failure could change. A wick-only fix touches the wick line alone; a load fix changes the oil quantity; a candle that runs hot with every wick can reach the wax and jar. Stickers fit any wick. Failure modes are general candle-making practice, not CSI test data; the 800-votive order and 70 g fill are illustrative.
Straight answer
I have a large confirmed candle order but the wick has not passed full-life testing — which materials should I delay buying in bulk until validation is complete?
Always delay the production wick. Delay the bulk wax and fragrance too, unless you are sure no fix will change them — and buy the lines no fix can touch now. If the full-life candle fails, the fix decides which purchases were wrong: a different wick changes only the wick line; a lower load changes the oil quantity (on 800 × 70 g votives, 8% → 7% leaves about ₹3,306.52 of oil over-bought); a candle that runs hot with every wick can change the wax (₹35,685.00 here) or even the jar. So buy the jars (if the client has fixed them) and wick stickers now — ₹28,750.00 — spend ₹1,428.92 testing two backup wicks (Cotton Braided and Thick C2) and two more full-life candles of the current one in parallel, and place the bulk wax, oil and production wick the day a wick passes. If the wax or oil is shared with your regular range, it is safe to buy early.
One line: the wick is always delayed; wax, oil and jars depend on why it might fail.
With a confirmed order and a wick that has not passed full-life testing, delay the production wick for certain, and delay the bulk wax and fragrance until you know the fix will not change them. Buy now what no fix can change — on this 800-votive example the Votive Glass Jars (₹26,550.00) and wick stickers (₹2,200.00) — plus a ₹1,428.92 test kit for two backup wicks and a full-life re-run.
Shop candle wicks

The short answer: hold the wick, and hold whatever the fix might change

A confirmed order is a reason to buy. An unvalidated wick is a reason to buy in the right order.

A full-life test — one candle burned, cycle after cycle, to the end of usable wax — is where wicks most often fail late: the pool that was fine at the top runs deeper and hotter near the base, the flame grows, the glass warms. Until that candle finishes, you do not know whether your current wick is the production wick. And if it fails, you do not yet know what the fix will be. That second uncertainty is the one that decides your purchasing, because different fixes change different lines of the bill of materials.

If the fix is a different wick, only the wick line changes. If the fix is a lower fragrance load, the oil quantity changes too. If no wick works in this wax and jar, the fix may be a different wax — or, at worst, a different jar, which a confirmed client order rarely allows. So the rule is not "delay everything" and not "buy everything because the order is confirmed". It is: buy the lines no plausible fix can change, delay the lines a plausible fix would change, and spend a small amount now on testing the fixes in parallel.

The CSI principle
Delay a purchase in proportion to how likely the fix is to change it.
The wick is always delayed. Stickers never are. Wax, oil and jars depend on why the wick might fail.

What each kind of failure would change

The example is a confirmed order of 800 votive candles (the order size is a labelled example) in Votive Glass Jars – Black with an illustrative 70 g fill — CSI does not publish one, so weigh a test pour — in Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 with Lemongrass and Lime at 8%: 5.6 g of oil and 64.4 g of wax per candle. CSI 468's product page states fragrance load up to 13%, a melting point of 50–53°C and pour at 58–60°C. The current wick is Eco Candle Wicks Thin C1, mid-way through its full-life candle. The matrix uses the series' retest vocabulary: KEEP, CONFIRM, REPEAT, NEW.

General candle-making practice · phrased as what a fix can change, not as CSI test data
Failure mode → which purchases the fix would touch
If the full-life candle shows… Likely first fix to test Wick Oil quantity Wax Jar
Tunnelling; pool never reaches the edge late in the burn Next wick up NEW KEEP KEEP KEEP
Flame growing, soot, glass warmer than your earlier candles Next wick down or a different wick type NEW KEEP KEEP KEEP
Soot and mushrooming that tracks the oil, not the wick Same wick at a lower load CONFIRM Changes KEEP KEEP
Every candidate runs hot near the base Different wax or jar — a bigger change REPEAT May change May change May change
Passes cleanly None KEEP KEEP KEEP KEEP

Two rows decide the purchasing. A wick-only fix is the commonest outcome in general practice, and it touches nothing but the wick line — so wax, oil and jars bought now would be safe. The load fix touches the oil: a lower load means less fragrance per candle. And the last row, where no wick works, can touch the wax and the jar — for a confirmed client order that is a conversation with the client, not a purchasing decision. Because you cannot know which row you are in until the candle finishes, the safest plan buys only what every row keeps.

"The order is confirmed, so buy it all." A confirmed order confirms the quantity and the date. It does not confirm the wick, and an unvalidated wick can push the fix into the oil or the wax. Fix: buy the KEEP-in-every-row lines now, run the backup wicks in parallel, and place the production order for everything else the day the full-life candle finishes.

The money at risk if you buy everything today

Buying the whole order now costs ₹95,007.52. The question is how much of that a failed wick could strand.
800 votives · 8% · prices CSI live pricing, re-checked 1 October 2026 (wax), CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026, stock re-checked 4 October 2026 (oil), re-checked 4 October 2026 (wicks, jars) · arithmetic
What a fix would leave on your shelf
If the fix is… Line affected Bought today Stranded or over-bought How to avoid it
A different wick Production wick 1 × 500 + 3 × 100 + 2 × 20 Thin C1 ₹4,956.00 Delay the production wick
Load 8% → 7% Fragrance oil 4.87 kg ₹3,306.52 of oil over need Delay the bulk oil
A different wax Wax 56.00 kg up to ₹35,685.00 Delay the bulk wax
A different jar (client agrees) Jars 833 votives up to ₹26,550.00 Buy jars only if the jar is not in question
Any of the above Stickers 880 stickers ₹0.00 Buy now — they fit any of the wicks

The wick itself is the smallest number on that table — ₹4,956.00 — which is why makers are tempted to just buy it. The bigger exposures are the wax and the oil, and they only become exposures if the fix reaches them. The 8%-to-7% row is an example of what a load fix does: 4.85 kg of oil at 8% becomes 4.24 kg at 7%, and the over-buy is the difference in the packs you would have bought. Lemongrass and Lime is ₹5.20 a gram at 500 g and 1 kg against ₹5.90 at 100 g, so the kilos carry the order either way.

Shared wax is safer to buy early
If CSI 468 is also the wax for your regular range, bulk wax bought now is not stranded even if this order's fix changes the wax — it goes into your other candles. In that case the wax moves from "delay" to "buy now". The same goes for an oil you sell in other products. The buffer-logic post explains how shared materials change the risk.

Testing the fixes in parallel while the full-life candle burns

The way to protect a confirmed delivery date is not to buy early; it is to test early. While the current wick's full-life candle is still burning, pour the backup wicks so their results arrive close behind. Two backup candidates — Cotton Braided Wicks Ready Made and Eco Thick C2 — at four candles each is 8 candles, plus 3 more full-life candles of the current Thin C1 wick so you have a second and third full-life result rather than one. Wick sizes per jar diameter are not published by CSI, so these are candidates to test, not a recommendation.

1
Pour the backups now, same day, same everythingSame wax lot, oil lot, load, jar and pour temperature as the current candidate's test candles. Number each base.
2
Cure to the same checkpointUse the same labelled cure checkpoint as the current candidate so the results are comparable. CSI 468's page publishes no cure time; record the one you use.
3
Burn in matched cycles3–4 hour cycles with a full cool-down are a commonly used working practice. Weigh before and after every burn: weight lost ÷ hours = your consumption rate.
4
Take one candle of each to the endRecord pool depth, flame height, soot and a jar-side reading at the same point every cycle, especially in the bottom third.
5
Knock out on safety firstAny wick that runs taller, sootier or hotter on the glass than the best candidate is out. CSI publishes no numeric flame or jar-temperature limits; judge against the best candidate and the fire-safety standard you work to. A hotter jar is never traded for a faster pool.
6
Release the production orderThe first wick to pass full-life — with a second candle confirming it — becomes the production wick. Order it, the bulk wax and the bulk oil the same day.
Arithmetic only · consumption rates are EXAMPLES — measure your own by weighing
How long a full-life test of a 70 g candle takes
If your candle burns Hours to finish 4-hour cycles 3-hour cycles
4.0 g/hour (example) 17.5 h 5 6
5.0 g/hour (example) 14.0 h 4 5
6.0 g/hour (example) 11.7 h 3 4

The table is why a full-life result arrives later than people expect: even a small votive needs many cycles, and each needs a full cool-down. The rates in it are examples, not CSI data — weigh your own test candles. For larger jars the number of cycles grows with the wax weight, which is why double-wick candles and big single-wick jars need the full-life test started first.

The purchase plan in three stages

Stage A is the test kit, bought today. Stage B is what no fix changes, also bought today. Stage C is everything a fix might change, bought the day a wick passes. Quantities cover 833 candles poured — 825 production (a 3% reject allowance on 800) plus 8 backup-wick test candles — with a 4% pour-loss allowance on wax and oil; the 3 extra full-life candles are in stage A.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. The simplest sale for us is the whole order today: ₹95,007.52. We would rather you spent ₹1,428.92 on a test kit, ₹28,750.00 on the lines no fix can change, and waited a few days for the rest. If the current wick passes, you lose nothing by waiting except a few days; if it fails, you have not bought a production wick, and possibly a load of oil, that you cannot use.

When the delivery date will not wait

Sometimes the date is fixed and the full-life result will arrive too late to order and pour. Then the decision is a trade, and it helps to make it explicitly. Buy the KEEP-in-every-row lines immediately; buy the wax early if it is shared with your regular range; buy the production wick of the current candidate only if its partial burns show no warning signs; and keep the oil until the load is confirmed by at least the upper half of the full-life candle. Above all, do not ship candles from a wick that has not finished a full-life test without telling the client. The 20-day post shows how to build in remake capacity when time is this tight.

Diwali falls on Sunday 8 November 2026. If your confirmed order is for Diwali, pour the backup wicks this week so all three full-life results arrive together. Send us your jar, wax, oil and order size on WhatsApp and we will confirm stock of the production wick, the 10 kg CSI 468 bags and the oil kilos, so the stage C order can go the day a wick passes. Larger quantities are quoted on WhatsApp; no discount figure is published.

The rest of the 500–1,000 candle cluster

The single-wick post and the double-wick post size the production wick line once a wick passes; the new-fragrance post applies the same delay-what-could-change rule to client approval; the breakage post sizes the jar line; buffer logic explains why shared materials are safer to buy early; and the procurement sheet lays out the final order. If you are earlier still — choosing wick candidates for a first run — the sample-wick post sets how many to test.

A confirmed order fixes the date. Only a finished candle fixes the wick.
— CandleMakingSuppliesIndia
Wick passed, but the client changed the jar? That is a new wick test, not a continuation of the old one: the jar's diameter and glass decide the pool. Treat it as REPEAT for the wick line and run the full-life test again in the new jar before buying production wicks.
Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. A confirmed order is one we would like you to place in full today. We publish no wick sizing and no burn data, so we cannot tell you the wick will pass; this page tells you to hold the lines a fix could change.

Wax prices are CSI live pricing, re-checked 1 October 2026. Oil prices are CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026, stock re-checked 4 October 2026. Wick, sticker and jar prices were re-checked 4 October 2026. The money-at-risk table is arithmetic on those prices; failure modes and fixes are general candle-making practice, not CSI test results.

The 800-candle order, 70 g fill, 8% load, the 7% example, 3% rejects, 4% pour loss, four candles per backup wick, three extra full-life candles, burn cycles and consumption rates are labelled working assumptions. CSI publishes no wick sizes per diameter, no jar fills (except the 85 g tin and 50 g velvet jar) and no numeric safety limits — ask on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926 for stock, bulk quotes, GST invoicing, MSDS or IFRA documentation.

Frequently asked questions

Should I buy production wicks before the burn test is finished?
No. A full-life test can still fail in the bottom third of the jar. Buy test packs of the current and backup wicks, and the production pack when one passes.
What is a full-life candle burn test?
One test candle burned in normal cycles with full cool-downs until the usable wax is gone, recording pool, flame, soot and jar-side readings every cycle — the only way to see late-burn problems.
Can I buy wax before the wick test is complete?
Yes, if no likely fix changes the wax — or if the wax is shared with your other products. If every wick might run hot in this wax and jar, hold the bulk wax.
Does a lower fragrance load fix wick problems?
Sometimes soot or mushrooming tracks the oil rather than the wick, and a lower load is a fix worth testing. That changes your oil quantity, so delay bulk oil until it is settled.
How long does a full-life burn test take?
Candle weight ÷ your measured consumption in grams per hour, spread over 3–4 hour cycles. Weigh your own test candles; CSI publishes no burn rates.
Which CSI wicks should I test as backups?
CSI lists Eco Thin C1, Eco Thick C2, Cotton Braided and Performance Wooden wicks. None has published sizing per diameter — test the candidates side by side in your jar.
