I’m Changing from One Soy Wax to Another but Keeping My 8 cm Jar and Fragrance — Should I Restart Wick Testing Even if Both Waxes Are Sold as Container Soy Wax?
Aktie
What counts as a pass? The new-wax trio behaves like the old-wax trio through burns 1–3 (edge reach, flame, depth, soot) and then passes a full life to about 1 cm left on its own. The old wax already has its full life; only the new wax needs one.
What if it fails? Re-bracket in the new wax. The bridge's new-wax trio is already the house-wick cell, so a fail costs three more candles on the neighbouring rung, not a fresh bracket.
Do the ceilings change? The pages differ: CSI 464 states up to 10%, Luxury Soy Wax Chunks up to 13%, and Natural Soy Pearl Wax states none in the text we captured. At 8% you are inside every stated one; ask us about Pearl before going higher.

Why "container soy" on both bags isn't enough
A wick doesn't burn wax; it burns whatever the wax and oil become when melted and drawn up the wick. Two container soy waxes can melt at different temperatures, flow differently when molten, hold fragrance differently and set to different hardness. Those differences commonly show in exactly the places a wick decision rests on: how fast the pool spreads, how deep it gets, how tall the flame runs and whether carbon builds. These are tendencies, not CSI measurements; CSI publishes no burn data for any of its waxes, and the pages describe different things in different words.
So "both are sold as container soy" tells you both are meant for jars. It doesn't tell you the approved wick will behave the same. Sometimes it will, which is why a full restart is wasteful. Sometimes it won't, which is why skipping the test is a gamble. The bridge exists to find out which, with the fewest candles.
An 8 cm jar makes the question sharper. On a 0.35 cm wall (our assumption; measure yours) an 8 cm outside is 7.3 cm inside, a 41.85 cm² pool, and a single wick at that width is usually chosen to just reach the glass. At CSI the next rung above C2, Cotton Braided, is described for candles "exceeding 8 cm". A wax that feeds the wick slightly less freely can turn a just-right wick into one that leaves a ring; one that feeds it more freely can push it hot in the final third. The jar is yours: CSI lists no 8 cm jar, and its nearest listings are 7 cm and 10 cm.
What the three CSI soy pages state, and don't
| Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 | Luxury Soy Wax Chunks | Natural Soy Pearl Wax | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stated fragrance ceiling | "Fragrance Load Up to 10%" | "up to 13% fragrance load capacity"; FAQ: "13% of total wax weight" | not stated |
| Stated pour / add temperature | "Pour Temperature 80°C – 90°C" | "Add fragrance at the recommended temperature" (no figure) | not stated |
| Page claims (attributed) | "Low frosting, minimal blooming"; "excellent glass adhesion" | "Clean burning with minimal soot"; "Exceptional fragrance throw" | "Excellent Fragrance Throw"; "minimal smoke and soot"; pearlescent shimmer |
| Price per gram | ₹0.51 from 1 kg to 10 kg | ₹0.60 at 1 kg; ₹0.60 at 10 kg | ₹0.45 at 1 kg; ₹0.42 from 5 kg |
| Wax per 200 g candle at 8% (184 g), 10 kg price | ₹93.36 | ₹110.38 | ₹78.16 |
Two cautions on the ceilings. The pages don't all say which basis they use; the Chunks FAQ says "13% of total wax weight", which on the conservative wax-weight reading is 11.50% of total. At your 8% of total (8.70% of wax weight) none of that bites: you are inside CSI 464's 10% and the Chunks' 13% on any reading. For Pearl, with no figure stated, stay at the load you know and ask us before going higher. The full ceiling-by-wax table, and why 12% is at the edge even where 13% is stated, is the supplier-12% post; this page doesn't repeat it.
And the temperature gap matters for the bridge. Each wax should be poured at its own maker's stated figure: CSI 464 at 80–90°C by its page (and no higher than your jar's stated limit), the other two at the figure we give you on request, since their pages state none in the text we captured. That means the bridge compares each wax as it should be used, process included, which is the comparison you actually care about.
The wax-swap bridge, step by step
| Item | Size | Used | Cost of what is used |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apple Cinnamon Fragrance Oil | 100 g, ₹474.36 (₹4.74/g) | 96 g (16 g × 6; 4 g left) | ₹455.39 |
| Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 (old) | your production bag | 552 g (184 g × 3) | ₹280.08 |
| Natural Soy Pearl Wax (new) | 1 kg, ₹450.00 | 552 g (448 g left, 2 more candles) | ₹248.40 |
| Eco Candle Wicks, Thick (C2) | 10, ₹94.40 | 6 (4 spare) | ₹56.64 |
| Bridge, materials consumed | 6 candles | ₹1,040.51 |
Cash, if you already hold your old wax, is ₹1,018.76; from nothing it is ₹1,526.16. Testing two candidates at once (Pearl and Chunks against one old-wax trio) is nine candles: 144 g of oil (a 100 g and a 50 g bottle, 6 g left), a 1 kg bag of each new wax, and nine wicks from the same 10-pack: ₹1,627.17 of materials, ₹1,854.94 in cash. Two 500 g bags of Chunks (₹598.00) cost ₹1.00 less than the 1 kg bag and hold the same wax, but one bag keeps the trio to one lot. Costs exclude labour, freight, packaging, jars and GST.
Reading the bridge: pass, fail and the grey zone
The pass rule is our judgement, written so you can apply it the same way every time. The spread of the old trio is your yardstick: three old candles never burn identically, and a new wax that falls inside their spread has told you nothing new about the wick.
| Signal | Pass (inside) | Grey zone | Fail (outside) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Edge reach | Pool meets the glass by the same burn as the old trio; any ring 1 mm or less | One candle 2 mm at one point | A ring of 2 mm or more on two or more candles at burn 3 |
| Trimmed flame | Within the old spread, about 5 cm or less | Just above the old spread, still under about 5 cm | Over about 5 cm, or visibly taller on all three |
| Pool depth at end | Within the old spread, roughly 0.5–1 cm | A few millimetres deeper than the old spread | Well past 1 cm in the top half |
| Soot, flicker, mushrooming | None beyond what the old trio shows | A trace on one candle | New soot or carbon on two or more candles, in still air |
All signals inside: pass the bridge and carry the new trio to about 1 cm left. Any signal outside on two or more candles: fail; re-bracket (next section). Grey zone only: pour three more new-wax candles and burn them against the old trio's records; if they land inside, pass. The flame and depth figures are commonly cited rules of thumb (about 2.5–5 cm; about 0.5–1 cm), not CSI data.
If it fails: a re-bracket that reuses the bridge
When the new trio falls outside, the fault points the direction. A persisting ring with a quiet flame points one rung up; a taller flame, a deep pool, soot or mushrooming points one rung down. At CSI, from C2 that is Cotton Braided up (described by its page for candles "exceeding 8 cm", so a border case at exactly 8 cm) or C1 down. The bridge's three new-wax candles on the approved wick are already the house-wick cell of the re-bracket, so the add-on is three candles on the indicated rung, in the new wax, from the same pour conditions.
| Bridge showed | Rung | Add-on, materials | Buy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Persisting ring, quiet flame | Up: Cotton Braided (₹12.00 a wick) | ₹512.09 | Cotton Braided 10 (₹120.00), Apple Cinnamon 50 g, another Pearl bag |
| Tall flame, deep pool, soot or mushrooming | Down: Eco C1 (₹5.90 a wick) | ₹493.79 | C1 20 (₹118.00; the 10-pack is out of stock), Apple Cinnamon 50 g, another Pearl bag |
Then the usual rule: the rung whose trio passes burns to about 1 cm left before production. Is the bridge cheaper than restarting? Be clear about what it saves. A from-scratch restart around the approved wick in the new wax (C1, C2 and Cotton Braided, three each) is nine new-wax candles and ₹1,510.30 of materials. The bridge is six candles (₹1,040.51) when it passes and nine when it fails (with a rung-up add-on, ₹1,552.60), three of them in the old wax. So it saves candles only when it passes; when it fails it costs about the same as a restart, and what you get for it is a live control that separates the wax from everything else that changed between pours.
Switching the whole range, rather than one candle, is a bigger job: which records carry over across many jars and oils, and which products need their own re-bracket, is the soy to soy-coconut carry-over map. The rule on this page is the unit that plan is built from.
Is the new wax worth the bridge?
At 10 kg prices, the wax in a 200 g candle at 8% (184 g) costs ₹93.36 in CSI 464, ₹78.16 in Natural Soy Pearl Wax and ₹110.38 in Luxury Soy Wax Chunks. Switching to Pearl saves ₹15.20 a candle, ₹1,519.84 per 100 candles; switching to Chunks costs ₹17.02 a candle more. The Pearl bridge (₹1,040.51 of materials) is repaid by the wax saving on the first 69 production candles, before any re-bracket.
| Switch | Wax per candle | Against CSI 464 | Good reason | Poor reason |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CSI 464 → Natural Soy Pearl Wax | ₹78.16 | ₹15.20 less | Cost at volume; a shimmer finish you want | "Excellent Fragrance Throw" on the page |
| CSI 464 → Luxury Soy Wax Chunks | ₹110.38 | ₹17.02 more | You need loads above 10%, inside both ceilings | Saving money |
Two honest notes. First, page claims are not reasons: every one of these pages says something good about throw or soot, and none of it is measured data. Second, if you make fewer than about 69 of the candle, a Pearl switch won't repay its own bridge on wax alone; stay with the wax you have approved unless there is another reason to move.
Diwali is 8 November 2026, 40 days from 29 September 2026. A bridge poured this week, cured about a week and burned three times can pass or fail by mid-October; the new wax's full life needs the weeks after. If your Diwali run is already approved in the old wax, pour it in the old wax and switch after the season.
What to buy
Four items for the bridge, chosen on page statements, price and stock on 29 September 2026. CSI publishes no wax or wick performance data, so nothing is ranked on burn results. Oil candles are counted at 16 g (200 g at 8%) and 12 g (150 g at 8%).

CandleMakingSuppliesIndia sells all three waxes, the oil and the wicks named here, and does not sell finished candles. This page still says the cheapest wax change is often none, that Chunks costs more per candle than CSI 464, and that our wick range may not have the size a new wax wants.
Every price was verified on CSI's live store on 29 September 2026. Stock was checked per size: the Eco C1 10-pack is out of stock on that date and is flagged wherever it appears; every other size shown is in stock. Ceiling, temperature and claim wording is quoted from the product pages; where a page is silent in the text we captured (Natural Soy Pearl Wax states no ceiling or temperature; Chunks no temperature figure), we say so.
The bridge design, the pass/grey/fail thresholds and the re-bracket rule are our judgement; the top views and ring widths are a worked example with unnamed waxes; flame, depth and session figures are commonly cited rules of thumb. CSI publishes no wax or wick performance data. For bulk pricing, GST invoicing, and MSDS and IFRA documentation on request, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Non-price figures: load is a percentage of total candle weight (200 g at 8% = 16 g oil + 184 g wax; the standard 150 g candle at 8% = 12 g). The 200 g fill, the 0.35 cm wall and the approved wick (C2) are worked-example choices; CSI lists no 8 cm jar. Ceilings and temperatures are as the pages state (CSI 464 up to 10%, pour 80–90°C; Chunks up to 13%, "13% of total wax weight" in its FAQ; Natural Soy Pearl Wax none stated): formulation limits, not regulatory ones. Flame (about 2.5–5 cm), depth (about 0.5–1 cm) and session figures are commonly cited rules of thumb. The bridge design, thresholds and re-bracket rule are editorial judgement; the top-view ring widths are illustrative. Costs exclude labour, freight, packaging, jars and GST.
