I Need 1,000 Identical Candles — Should I Buy All the Wax from One Batch to Reduce Production Variation?
Aktie
How much wax do 1,000 candles need? For 85 g tins at 8%: 78.2 g of wax each, 78.2 kg in total, and 81.328 kg with a 4% pour-loss allowance (working assumption). That is 85 kg as eight 10 kg bags and one 5 kg bag of CSI 464 (₹43,129.00), or five bags of Natural Soy Pearl (₹36,108.00).
What is a retained sample? A sealed, labelled portion of the wax, and of the oil, from the order the client approved, kept away from heat and light. If a later batch looks different, you compare against it. 500 g of CSI 464 costs ₹253.70.
What if the bags come from different lots? Test-pour from each bag before production, then blend: draw each melt from several bags in rotation, so no single batch depends on one bag. Small bag-to-bag differences average out across the order instead of showing up as one odd batch.
What we can and can't tell you about lots
Wax is made in production runs, and natural waxes like soy can differ slightly from one run to the next. In general practice that might mean a faintly different shade of white, a different tendency to frost, or a surface that sets a little differently. None of that is measured or published on CSI's listings, and we don't publish lot or batch numbers either. So you can't choose a lot from the website, and you shouldn't assume two orders placed weeks apart came from the same run. What you can do is ask, before ordering, whether your full quantity can ship together from one lot. Ask on WhatsApp, and plan as if the answer might be no.
The example order is a corporate client taking 1,000 × 85 g Golden Aluminium Tins, whose 85 g fill is published, scented with Bergamot Amber Fragrance Oil at 8%. Each tin holds 6.8 g of oil and 78.2 g of wax. The client wants them to look identical on a reception table, so colour, surface and fill matter as much as scent. I'm Producing a Large Candle Order in Several Batches — How Do I Keep Fragrance Strength, Colour and Fill Weight Identical from the First Batch to the Last? covers keeping scent, colour and fill identical from batch to batch. This page deals with the wax itself.
Buy once, in fewer bags
The first rule is simple: one order for the whole job. Buying 20 kg now and topping up later is the most reliable way to end up with wax from two different runs. The second rule is to buy in the fewest, largest bags that suit your melter and your storage. Fewer bags means fewer possible sources of difference, and fewer things to sample, label and track. Here are four ways to buy the same 85 kg:
| Option | Packs | Bags to sample and track | Cost | Per kg |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CSI 464 in 1 kg packs | 82 × 1 kg | 82 | ₹41,606.80 | ₹507.40 |
| CSI 464 in 5 kg bags | 17 × 5 kg | 17 | ₹43,129.00 | ₹507.40 |
| CSI 464 in 10 kg bags | 8 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg | 9 | ₹43,129.00 | ₹507.40 |
| Natural Soy Pearl, 50 kg + 10 kg + 5 kg | 1 × 50 kg + 3 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg | 5 | ₹36,108.00 | ₹424.80 |
CSI 464 costs ₹507.40 a kilo whether you buy 1 kg or 10 kg. The nine bags cost ₹1,522.20 more than 82 one-kilo packs only because bag sizes round the order up to 85 kg, and that extra 3 kg is usable stock. In exchange you have 73 fewer packs to label, sample and check. Natural Soy Pearl Wax is listed up to a 50 kg bag, and it is ₹424.80 a kilo from 5 kg up, so five bags cost ₹36,108.00, which is ₹7,021.00 less than CSI 464. It is a different wax, though. No fragrance-load ceiling is quoted for it in our data, while CSI 464 is rated up to 10% by the wax maker. Check its product page or ask us, and treat 6–10% as a test range, not a spec. Only switch after a burn test in your tin. My Premium Soy Wax Costs More per Kg but Produces Fewer Rejects — How Do I Calculate Whether It Is Actually Cheaper than My Budget Wax? covers comparing waxes on reject rates as well as price.
The retained sample and the test pour
A retained sample is a portion of the materials the client approved, sealed, labelled and stored cool and dark until the order has been delivered and accepted. For the wax, 500 g is plenty. From CSI 464 that is ₹253.70 of wax. Keep the approved candle too, and a small sealed amount of the oil. I Need Several Kilograms of One Fragrance for a Corporate Order — Should I Test the Bulk Fragrance Batch Against My Original Sample Before Production? covers the oil side. If a batch in week two looks different, you pour a tin from the retained sample alongside it and see straight away whether the difference is the wax or your process.
Blend across bags
Even bags that pass the test pour won't be perfectly identical, and nor would they be from a single run. The standard answer is to blend: fill each melt from several bags, so that any small difference is spread across the whole order instead of showing up in one batch. With nine bags and melts of about 9.2 kg of wax (10 kg of candle at 8%), the order needs about 9 melts. Each melt makes up to 117 tins, before pour loss.
| Melt | Draw from bags | Wax from each | Oil added (8% of 10 kg) | Record on the batch sheet |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1, 4, 7 | 1 + 4 + 7 (pattern A) | about 3.07 kg | 800 g Bergamot Amber | Bag numbers, oil bottle number, time, temperatures |
| 2, 5, 8 | 2 + 5 + 8 (pattern B) | about 3.07 kg | 800 g | Same |
| 3, 6, 9 | 3 + 6 + 9 (pattern C) | about 3.07 kg | 800 g | Same |
| Later melts | Keep rotating A → B → C as bags empty; mix in the remaining bags | Weigh each draw | 800 g per 10 kg | Note any bag that runs out mid-melt |
Weigh the wax, not the scoop. At 8% of a 10 kg melt the oil is 800 g against 9.2 kg of wax. If the wax is under-weighed by half a kilo, the effective load in that batch rises to about 8.4%, and those tins will smell and look different from the rest. Use a weighing scale (₹354.00) for every draw, and write the weights down. The Electric Wax Melter is listed in 10 kg (₹21,240.00) and 20 kg (₹25,960.00) capacities. Its throughput per hour is not published, so time your own melts. I Need to Produce 500 Candles in Seven Days — How Do I Calculate Whether My Current Melting Equipment, Moulds and Workspace Can Handle the Production Volume? works through capacity for a fixed deadline.
What varies more than the wax
When a big order comes out uneven, the wax lot gets the blame first. In general practice, process changes cause visible differences at least as often. Before you ask about the wax, check these:
| Source | What it can change | How to control it |
|---|---|---|
| Pour temperature | Surface finish, adhesion, frosting | Pour every batch at the same temperature, checked with a pen thermometer (₹354.00) |
| Room temperature and cooling | Sinkholes, wet spots, surface texture | Cool on the same shelves, away from fans and windows; note the room temperature on the batch sheet |
| Oil weighed per batch | Scent strength, surface, sometimes shade | Weigh oil against the weighed wax, never by volume or "a splash" |
| Fill weight | Visible fill line, burn time | Tare every tin; check a sample of fills per batch against the 85 g target |
| Wick placement | Off-centre melt pools, soot | Use Wick Centering Devices (5 for ₹118.00) or Steel Wick Holders (5 for ₹250.00) |
| Wax lot | Shade, frosting tendency, set | One order, ask for one lot, test each bag, blend |
Only the last row is about the wax lot, and it is also the one you control least. The other five you control completely, which is why a written batch sheet does more for consistency than anything else. Once the order ships, keep the retained sample until the client has accepted delivery. Then either return it to general use or keep it as a reference for their repeat order next year. If they do reorder, the retained sample and your batch records are what let you match this year's candles. CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. On consistency, the comfortable claim for a supplier is that every bag is identical. We don't publish lot data, so this page doesn't make that claim. It tells you to ask, to test every bag and to blend, even though that makes the question of lots ours to answer on WhatsApp, not something you can take for granted.
Wax and oil prices are CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026. Tin, melter, holder and wick-accessory prices were pulled 24–25 September 2026. Descriptions of how soy wax can vary between runs are general candle-making practice, not CSI measurements.
