100 Jasmine Candles · Exact or Extra
Tests, rejects, pour loss and breakage are not extra — the run consumes them. Safety stock is extra, and the answer differs by material: hold wax, jars and wicks; let jasmine end with the bottle leftover.
₹1,384.00
the cost of a targeted reserve (10 candles of wax, 5 jars, 10 wicks) on top of the ₹27,197.00 calculated order · CSI live pricing, October 2026
Quick answers — read this first
Exact or extra? Buy the calculated quantities, which already include tests, rejects, pour loss and breakage. Then hold a small reserve of shared materials only.

What is the calculated order? 1 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg + 3 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g of CSI 468, 3 × 500 g + 1 × 100 g of Jasmine, 105 jars, 110 wicks — ₹27,197.00.

What extra should I keep? About 10 candles' worth of wax, 5 jars and 10 wicks and stickers: ₹1,384.00 more.

Extra jasmine? Only the bottle leftover (25.2 g). No shelf life is published per oil; 500 g and 1 kg cost the same per gram, so buy for the next run when it is real.
The short answer
Answer: Buy the calculated order (₹27,197.00); add a reserve of wax, jars and wicks (₹28,581.00 in all); keep no extra jasmine beyond pack leftovers.
Why: Process allowances are consumed by the run. Safety stock is held — worth it for shared, long-lived materials, not for a fragrance that only one candle uses.
Method: Calculated order (net + tests + rejects + pour loss + breakage → packs) → per-material reserve decision → separate reserve lines on the list.

Each material's cost per candle-equivalent at this page's prices, whether CSI's product page publishes a shelf life, and this page's working rule for holding extra. Wax, jars and wicks earn a small reserve; jasmine ends with the bottle leftover. The four plan totals are computed from the same allowances.
Straight answer
I need 100 × 180 g jasmine candles — should I buy exactly the calculated raw materials or keep extra wax, fragrance, wicks and jars?
Buy exactly the calculated quantities — and keep a small reserve of wax, jars and wicks, but no extra jasmine beyond what the bottles leave over. "Calculated" must already include process allowances, because the run consumes them: here two test candles, 3% rejects, 4% pour loss and 2% jar breakage (labelled). At 8% each 180 g candle is 165.6 g of wax and 14.4 g of oil, and the order is 1 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg + 3 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g of Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468, 3 × 500 g + 1 × 100 g of Jasmine Fragrance Oil, 105 White Matte jars and 110 Cotton Braided wicks — ₹27,197.00. A reserve of ten candles' worth of wax (CSI 468's page states a 60-month shelf life), five jars and ten wicks adds ₹1,384.00. Extra jasmine is the dearest material per gram, fits only one product and has no published shelf life here — buy it when a second run is confirmed.
One line: allowances are consumption; reserves are a per-material choice — hold wax, jars and wicks, not jasmine.
For 100 × 180 g Jasmine, buy the calculated quantities — then keep a little extra wax, jars and wicks, but no extra jasmine beyond what the bottles leave over. Calculated order: 1 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg + 3 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g of Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468, 3 × 500 g + 1 × 100 g of Jasmine Fragrance Oil, 105 jars, 110 wicks — ₹27,197.00. Targeted extras take it to ₹28,581.00.

Exact or extra: the short version

Buy what the run consumes. Keep extra only of what is safe to hold and stops everything if it runs out.

There are two different kinds of "extra" in a candle order, and the question only makes sense once they are separated. The first kind is process allowance: test candles, rejects, pour loss and breakage. That is not extra at all — the run consumes it, and leaving it out guarantees you finish short. The second kind is safety stock: material bought beyond what this run will consume, held on the shelf against a remake, a late reorder or the next order. That one is a choice, and the right answer is different for each material.

For this run — 100 candles of 180 g at an 8% working load, so 14 g of jasmine and 166 g of wax per candle — the calculated quantities already include two test candles, 3% rejects, 4% pour loss and 2% jar breakage (labelled working assumptions). Pack rounding then adds a natural cushion: 2.4 candles' worth of wax, 1.8 of jasmine, 0 jars and 4 wicks left over. Beyond that, this page's working rule is: keep about ten candles' worth of wax, five jars and ten wicks; keep no extra jasmine beyond the bottle leftover unless a second run is already planned.

Plan A is the floor: it finishes the run with only pack leftovers. Plan C costs ₹1,384.00 more than A and leaves ₹1,860.28 of material on the shelf — mostly wax with a published 60-month shelf life, a few jars and wicks. Plan B adds ten candles' worth of jasmine and five more jars, for ₹990.00 more than C. Plan D, a second run's worth of everything, ties up ₹25,091.41 before anyone has asked for those candles. The 105-or-110-pieces post is the place to decide how much process allowance to plan; this page is about what you hold beyond it.

CSI subtotal ₹27,197.00 ₹431.74

That is ₹271.97 of CSI materials per saleable candle. Two pack details shape it. Jasmine is one of CSI's oils with a real per-gram step: ₹6.87 a gram at 15 g, ₹4.30 at 100 g, ₹3.92 at 500 g and ₹3.92 at 1 kg — the 500 g and 1 kg are the same rate, so three 500 g bottles plus a 100 g are the cheapest cover and are easier to keep sealed than an opened kilo. CSI 468 is ₹650.00 a kilo at 500 g and 1 kg and ₹637.00 at 5 and 10 kg, so the bulk of the wax comes in the big bags. The jar is the White Matte, a candidate for a 180 g fill whose capacity CSI does not publish; the 200 ml Salsa jar is ruled out here because 200 ml of wax is only about 172 g–180 g to the brim.

The confusion: treating pour loss and rejects as "extra". Cutting them to buy "exactly" 100 candles' worth means the last few candles have no wax, oil or wick. Fix: keep process allowances in the calculated order — they are consumption — and make the safety-stock decision separately, material by material, with its own line on the list.

Material by material: what is worth holding

Safety stock is worth holding when running out would stop production and holding it costs little. Those two things differ sharply between the four lines on this order.

₹ per candle-equivalent at the prices on this page · shelf life only where CSI's product page states it
Should you hold extra of it?
Material ₹ per candle-equivalent Published shelf life Cost of running out Working rule
Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 ₹105.89 60 months cool and dry (page) Every candle stops Keep about 10 candles' worth
White Matte jars ₹70.80 Glass — no expiry A remake or breakage has no jar Keep about 5 beyond breakage
Cotton Braided Wicks Ready Made + sticker ₹14.50 Not published Every candle stops Keep about 10
Jasmine Fragrance Oil ₹56.82 Not published per oil — ask CSI Only this fragrance stops Pack leftover only, unless a rerun is planned

Wax is the easiest call. It is shared by every fragrance you make, it is the cheapest material per gram on the order (about ₹0.64 against jasmine's ₹3.95), and CSI's pages state a 60-month shelf life in cool, dry storage for CSI 468 (and for CSI 464). Ten candles' worth is under 2 kg and covers a remake or a small extra order without a reorder. Jars are bulky but cannot spoil; the breakage allowance covers arrivals, and five more cover the jar that cracks on the bench a week later. Wicks and stickers cost almost nothing to hold and stop the whole run if they are short.

Fragrance is the opposite case. Jasmine is the dearest material per gram on the order — ₹3.95 a gram, ₹56.82 per candle — it is specific to one product, and CSI publishes no shelf life per oil in this data — ask CSI on WhatsApp for the oil's documentation and store it closed, cool and dark. The bottles already leave 25.2 g after the run. Holding a further 10 candles' worth costs ₹636.00 today for a candle nobody has ordered yet. If a second jasmine run is already confirmed, buy for it then — CSI's 500 g and 1 kg jasmine are the same price per gram, so waiting costs nothing in rate.

Hold shared materials, not single-product ones
A kilo of wax in reserve can become any candle you make. A bottle of jasmine can only become jasmine. When you decide what to keep, rank materials by how many of your products can use them. Two fragrances in one run and four fragrances in one wax order show how much a shared wax line simplifies the decision.
1
Finish the calculated order firstNet BOM plus tests, rejects, pour loss and breakage, rounded to real packs. Write down each pack leftover in candles' worth — that is reserve you already have.
2
List which products each material servesWax, wicks and jars are usually shared across your range; each fragrance serves one product. Shared materials go to the top of the reserve list.
3
Check what is published about shelf lifeCSI's pages state 60 months for CSI 468 and CSI 464. Where nothing is published — oils, Chunks, Soy Pearl — ask CSI and store carefully, and hold less.
4
Price the reserve as its own lineTen candles' worth of wax, five jars, ten wicks on this order. Seeing the rupees separately stops a reserve quietly becoming a second run.
5
Review after the runIf the reserve was never touched, shrink it next time; if you reordered mid-run, grow the line that ran out — and only that line.

What running short actually costs

The risk of buying exactly is not the cost of one more candle. It is the delay of one more order.

Short by one candle's worth of wax is never a ₹100 problem; it is a reorder, a delivery wait and a batch poured on a different day, possibly from a different lot. That is the real case for a small reserve of the shared materials. CSI publishes no lot numbers or batch-consistency data, so if a remake must match the original exactly, it is better poured from the same bags and bottles — another reason to keep a little wax from this order rather than buying fresh for one candle.

Situations where a reserve matters · not predictions — use your own order history
When extra stock earns its keep
Situation What you need Covered by
A customer's candle arrives cracked 1 jar, 1 wick, 180 g of mix Jar reserve + wax reserve + bottle leftover
Three candles fail inspection late 3 candles' worth of everything Reject allowance; reserve if over 3%
The client adds 10 candles 10 candles' worth Wax/jar/wick reserve; buy jasmine then
A second identical run next month A whole order A new calculated order — not a reserve
Diwali reorders on 8 November 2026 Unknown Plan it as its own order with a date
Argued against our own interest, plainly. Plan D — a second run's worth of everything, "just in case" — would be a ₹51,798.00 order with us. It leaves ₹25,091.41 of stock on your shelf, much of it jasmine, before anyone has asked for those candles. Do not do it. Buy the calculated order, keep the small reserve of shared materials, and reorder jasmine when the second run is real — 500 g and 1 kg cost the same per gram, so there is no rate to lose by waiting.

The recommended order

Plan C, line by line. The wick is assumed already chosen and confirmed by two test candles in your jar — CSI publishes no wick-per-diameter chart, so if it is not, test first using the wick-sample post. Cotton Braided Ready Made wicks are ₹12.00 each at every pack size, so the extra ten cost the same per wick as the first hundred.

The CSI principle
Process allowances are consumption. Safety stock is a decision — make it per material.
Hold the shared, long-lived materials every candle needs. Let the single-product ones — your fragrances — be bought when the next run is real.

The 100-candle Lavender hub sets out the full calculation. Your first 100 candles separates bulk buys from small test quantities, the minimum-leftover post chooses packs to leave as little as possible, and the 150 g coffee post compares a named buffer with a flat 10%. For a jasmine candle still in development, the 150 g jasmine trials post sizes formulation trials plus 50 finished units. And when reserves become a policy across many products, the safety-stock post for shared wax takes it from there.

A reserve of wax is a reserve for every candle you make. A reserve of one fragrance is a bet on one candle.

Frequently asked questions

Should I buy extra raw materials for candle production?
Separate process allowances (tests, rejects, pour loss, breakage — always include them) from safety stock (optional). Hold a small reserve of shared, long-lived materials; avoid holding fragrance that only one product uses.
How much wax for 100 candles of 180 g?
At 8%, 16,560 g net (165.6 g each); 18,110.2 g with two tests, 3% rejects and 4% pour loss — 1 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg + 3 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g of CSI 468.
How much jasmine fragrance oil for 100 candles?
1,440 g net at 8% (14.4 g per 180 g candle); 1,574.8 g with allowances — 3 × 500 g + 1 × 100 g at ₹6,313.00.
What is the shelf life of soy wax?
CSI's product pages state 60 months in cool, dry storage for CSI 468 and CSI 464. No shelf life is published for Luxury Soy Wax Chunks or Natural Soy Pearl in this data — ask CSI.
Does fragrance oil expire?
CSI publishes no shelf life per oil here. Store bottles closed, cool and dark, label the purchase date, and ask CSI on WhatsApp for the oil's documentation.
How many spare jars should I order?
Cover breakage in the calculated order (2% here as an example), then a few more as a reserve for late cracks and remakes — about five on a 100-candle run is this page's working rule.

Non-price figures and assumptions: BOM convention used on every page in this series: load is a share of the finished candle (oil = W × L; wax = W × (1 − L)). Allowances are applied in one order — whole test candles, then a reject allowance (÷ (1 − reject rate)) on wax, oil, wicks and stickers, then pour loss on wax and oil only, then breakage on glass only, then rounding up to listed in-stock CSI packs. A rejected candle is assumed to be remade with new wax, oil, wick and sticker in a cleaned jar; a jar that cannot be reused counts as breakage. Working figures on this page: 8% load (the title gives none), 2 test candles, 3% rejects, 4% pour loss, 2% breakage; reserve sizes (10 candles of wax, 5 jars, 10 wicks) are this page's working rule. Volume is not weight: a jar's ml figure is its brim volume. Solid soy wax is lighter than water; ~0.86–0.90 g per ml is a labelled approximate working range that varies by wax, temperature and fill line, never a CSI specification. What CSI's product pages state (quoted, not CSI test results): Luxury Soy Wax Chunks — maximum fragrance load 13%, fragrance addition 80–90°C, pour 75–80°C in the spec table (the step list also shows 70–80°C), cure minimum 48 hours, ideally 1–2 weeks; Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 — fragrance load up to 10%, an 80–90°C melt/pour working range in the spec table, shelf life 60 months cool and dry; Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 — melting point 50–53°C, pour 58–60°C, fragrance load up to 13%, shelf life 60 months cool and dry; Natural Soy Pearl — no melt point, pour temperature, fragrance ceiling or shelf life published. CSI publishes no throw, burn-test, wick-size-per-diameter or jar-diameter data; only two fills are published (Golden Aluminium Tin 85 g, Heart Cutout Velvet Jar 50 g wax capacity). Material costs exclude labour, packaging, freight and GST. Diwali 2026 falls on Sunday 8 November.
