Two hundred and fifty candles of 180 g at an 8% load hold 3,600 g of fragrance oil. A 5 kg quantity covers that with room to spare, even after pour loss and test candles. The more useful questions are how much is left, what the spare is worth, and whether a smaller order does the same job for less.
3,600 g
fragrance oil in 250 × 180 g candles at 8% · 3,751.2 g with allowances · 5 kg leaves 1,248.8 g spare · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
Is 5 kg of fragrance oil enough for 250 × 180 g candles at 8%? Yes. Each candle holds 180 × 0.08 = 14.4 g of oil, so 250 candles hold 3,600 g. With a 3% pour allowance and three test candles, you need 3,751.2 g, leaving 1,248.8 g spare.

Does CSI sell a 5 kg fragrance pack? CSI lists oils up to 1 kg per listing. Five kilos means five 1 kg bottles (Mango Coconut: ₹19,820.00) or a quote on WhatsApp for a single larger quantity. No volume discount figure is published.

How many candles does 5 kg make? 347 candles of 180 g at 8% net, or 334 after a 3% pour allowance and three tests. At 10% it still covers the 250-candle order.

Should I buy 5 kg or less? For a one-off run, less. The exact cover for Mango Coconut costs ₹15,217.22, and four 1 kg bottles ₹15,856.00. Five kilos makes sense when a second run is booked. See buy 5 kg, 4 kg or exactly enough.
The short answer
The sum: 250 × 180 g × 0.08 = 3,600 g oil + 41,400 g wax. 5 kg covers 347 candles net.
Allowances: 3% pour loss = 108 g; 3 test candles × 14.4 g = 43.2 g; total 3,751.2 g; 5 kg leaves 1,248.8 g (about 84 candles).
Pack reality: CSI oils are listed up to 1 kg. 5 × 1 kg Mango Coconut = ₹19,820.00; exact cover ₹15,217.22. When a 5 kg rate makes sense covers the break-even.
Is 5 kg enough for 250 × 180 g at 8%? The bottle, gram by gram Five 1 kg bottles side by side. Dark = oil in the 250 candles · mid = 3% pour loss + 3 tests · white = spare. 1 kg bottle 1 1 kg bottle 2 1 kg bottle 3 1 kg bottle 4 1 kg bottle 5 3,600 g net · 250 candles × 14.4 g 1,248.8 g spare ≈ 84 more candles 3,751.2 g needed What 5 kg covers 347 candles net, at 14.4 g each 334 candles after 3% loss + 3 tests ≤ 239.9 g largest candle for 250 units 10% load still covered (4,689 g)
The five boxes are five 1 kg bottles, which is how 5 kg of one oil is listed at CSI. The dark band is the oil that ends up in 250 candles of 180 g at 8%. The mid-grey band is the working allowance: 3% for pour loss and three 14.4 g test candles. Everything to the right of the dashed line is spare, and the tiles below show what 5 kg would cover in other situations.
Straight answer
I need 250 × 180 g candles at 8% fragrance — is a 5 kg fragrance oil pack enough for the production run?
Yes, comfortably. At 8% of the finished weight, each 180 g candle holds 14.4 g of oil and 165.6 g of wax, so 250 candles hold 3,600 g of oil. With a 3% pour allowance (108 g) and three test candles (43.2 g), the run needs 3,751.2 g. Five kilos leaves 1,248.8 g spare, enough for about 84 more candles. In fact 5 kg covers 347 candles net and would still cover this order at 10%. Two practical notes. First, CSI lists fragrance oils up to 1 kg per listing, so "5 kg" means five 1 kg bottles, or a single larger quantity quoted on WhatsApp; no discount figure is published. Second, you may not need 5 kg. For Mango Coconut, the exact cover is ₹15,217.22 and four 1 kg bottles are ₹15,856.00, against ₹19,820.00 for five. Buy the fifth kilo when a second run is already booked.
One line: 3,600 g in the candles, 3,751.2 g with allowances, 5,000 g in five bottles — enough, with a kilo and a quarter over.
The oil priced on this page is Mango Coconut Fragrance Oil, a tropical fruit profile with one of the catalogue's largest kilo savings: ₹3.96 a gram in the 500 g and 1 kg against ₹5.00 in the 100 g. Four 1 kg bottles (₹15,856.00) cover this run with 248.8 g spare.
Buy Mango Coconut

3,600 g against 5,000 g

A 180 g candle at 8% carries 14.4 g of oil. Multiply by 250 and you are well inside five kilos.

The calculation uses CSI's convention: load is a share of the finished candle weight. So a 180 g candle at 8% is 180 × 0.08 = 14.4 g of oil, and 180 − 14.4 = 165.6 g of wax. The decimal is real. At 180 g, the oil per candle is not a round number, so keep the decimal through the calculation and round only when you buy.

250 × 180 g at 8% · load as share of finished weight
The run against a 5 kg quantity
Line Per candle × 250 Against 5,000 g
Finished weight 180 g 45,000 g —
Fragrance oil (× 0.08) 14.4 g 3,600 g 1,400 g spare
Wax (× 0.92) 165.6 g 41,400 g —
+ 3% pour loss (working assumption) 0.432 g 108 g 1,292 g spare
+ 3 test candles at 14.4 g — 43.2 g 1,248.8 g spare
Total oil to have — 3,751.2 g 75.0% of 5 kg used

So the answer to the title is yes, with room. The run uses three-quarters of five kilos, and the quarter left over is about 84 more candles at the same size and load. Whether that spare is useful depends entirely on what happens after this order, which is why the second half of this page is about whether to buy 5 kg rather than whether it is enough.

The allowances are working assumptions. Makers commonly plan 3–5% extra for pour loss and test burns. At 5% pour loss the need becomes 3,823.2 g and the spare 1,176.8 g, still a comfortable margin. Three test candles suit an oil you have used before. If Mango Coconut is new in your wax, pour a proper round first; sizing a test round shows how many grams that takes.

Check the 180 g before you check the 5 kg
Every figure here assumes the finished candle really weighs 180 g. Weigh one set test candle in its jar and subtract the empty jar. If it is 190 g, the run needs 3,800 g net, not 3,600 g. The fill weight of most jars is not published, so a weighed test pour is the only reliable figure. Estimating a jar's wax fill from a water fill shows how to measure it.

What 5 kg covers

Five kilos is a fixed quantity, so it helps to know how far it stretches if the order changes. Three ways to look at it: by load, by candle size and by candle count.

250 × 180 g · 3% pour loss + 3 test candles at each load
Does 5 kg cover the run at other loads?
Load Oil per candle Net oil With allowances 5 kg enough? Spare / short
6% 10.8 g 2,700 g 2,813.4 g Yes 2,186.6 g
8% 14.4 g 3,600 g 3,751.2 g Yes 1,248.8 g
10% 18.0 g 4,500 g 4,689.0 g Yes 311.0 g
12% 21.6 g 5,400 g 5,626.8 g No 626.8 g short

Five kilos covers this run at 6%, 8% and 10%. At 12% it does not. 12% is also only allowed in Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, which is rated up to 13%; CSI 464 is rated up to 10%. Those are the wax makers' stated formulation maximums, not recommended loads. If you are still choosing between 8% and 10%, 5 kg covers either, which is one situation where buying the larger quantity before testing is reasonable.

8% load · 5,000 g of oil
How far 5 kg stretches
Question Calculation Answer
Candles of 180 g, net 5,000 ÷ 14.4 347 (347.2)
Candles of 180 g, with 3% loss and 3 tests (5,000 − 43.2) ÷ 14.832 334
Largest candle for 250 units, net 5,000 ÷ (250 × 0.08) 250 g
Largest candle for 250 units, with allowances 5,000 ÷ (0.08 × (250 × 1.03 + 3)) 239.9 g
Candles of 200 g, net 5,000 ÷ 16 312 (312.5)
Spare after this run, in 180 g candles 1,248.8 ÷ 14.832 84

The size row is useful when a client changes the spec. If the 180 g grows to 200 g, 5 kg still covers the order net (4,000 g) and with allowances (4,168 g). It stops covering 250 units at about 240 g with allowances. For the reverse question, with 5 kg already on the shelf, how many 200 g candles 5 kg makes before a reorder works through it.

The CSI principle
Enough is a yes-or-no question. Right-sized is a money question.
Five kilos is enough for this run, with a quarter left over. Whether it is the right purchase depends on the next order, how fast you use this scent, and whether the spare ties up money you need elsewhere. Answer the first question with arithmetic, and the second with your order book.

What "a 5 kg pack" means at CSI

CSI lists fragrance oils up to 1 kg per listing. Five kilos is five bottles, or a conversation.

Some suppliers list 5 kg containers. CSI's Fragrance Oils collection lists sizes of 15 g, 50 g, 100 g, 500 g and 1 kg, and not every oil offers every size. There is no 5 kg listing. You can get 5 kg of an in-stock oil in two ways:

Two routes to 5 kg of one oil
Five 1 kg bottles or a quote
Route What you get Price basis When it suits
5 × 1 kg from the listing Five sealed 1 kg bottles Listed 1 kg price × 5 (Mango Coconut ₹19,820.00) Oil in stock at 1 kg; you want to order now at a known price
WhatsApp quote A single larger quantity, as quoted Quoted on request; no discount figure is published Several kilos of one oil, repeat runs, or a mixed production order

Five separate bottles have one practical advantage: you open one kilo at a time, and the rest stay sealed until needed. Ask about lot consistency if uniformity across all five matters. It is not published in CSI's data, so the honest answer comes from asking on WhatsApp and keeping a retained sample from each bottle. If you are comparing CSI against a supplier who lists a 5 kg pack with a lower per-gram rate, compare the per-gram price, then check how much of the 5 kg you will use before it matters. When a 5 kg rate justifies the purchase works that out from monthly sales.

The "5 kg because that's what bulk means" order. A maker with a one-off 250-candle wedding order buys 5 kg because it sounds like the sensible bulk quantity. After the run, 1,248.8 g sits on the shelf, which is over a quarter of what was spent. If no more orders for that scent come, it stays there. Work out the need first (3,751.2 g), then decide how much spare you actually want, then buy. Round numbers are not a reason to buy.

Buy 5 kg, 4 kg or exactly enough

Here are the realistic options for Mango Coconut, from the tightest cover to five kilos. All prices are listed in-stock prices pulled on 24 September 2026. Note how its price ladder shapes the answer: the 500 g and 1 kg are both ₹3.96 a gram, but the 100 g is ₹5.00 and the 50 g ₹5.00, so small top-up bottles carry a real premium on this oil.

Quote one larger quantity as quoted ask on WhatsApp — —

Four kilos is the practical sweet spot for a one-off run. It costs ₹638.78 more than the exact cover, and for that you get 235 g more oil in four sealed bottles instead of eight mixed ones. Because the extra small bottles in the exact cover are priced at ₹5.00 a gram, the fourth kilo is nearly free insurance. Five kilos costs ₹3,964.00 more than four and adds 1,000 g of spare, about 67 more candles. That is only worth it with a second order on the books. The net-only option is shown to make the point that it is not enough: without any allowance, the last few candles would run short.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. Five kilos would be a bigger sale, and the title practically asks us to say yes. The arithmetic says you need 3,751.2 g, and four kilos cover it for ₹15,856.00. The fifth kilo is ₹3,964.00 of stock with no order behind it. Buy four. When the next Mango Coconut order comes in, buy again. If you are sure it will, ask for a quote on the full quantity instead.

The same run on two other fruity oils shows how the per-gram ladder changes the answer. Fresh Strawberries has a smaller 100 g premium, and Peach Melon Berry is priced flat from 100 g upward.

That is ₹173.78 per saleable candle for oil, wax and wick, before jars, labour, packaging, freight and GST. At this size, a quote on WhatsApp for the wax and oil together is sensible: the order is over 47 kg of material, and larger quantities are quoted individually. Wick size for your 180 g jar is not published; confirm it in the test candles.

If the run is for a festive or wedding client. A 250-candle order is a typical Diwali corporate or wedding-favour quantity. The spare in a 5 kg purchase can cover replacements and late additions, which is a legitimate reason to buy it; count those as planned units rather than hoping the spare is enough. A corporate order with 5% extra finished stock and a client who may add 20% cover those cases.

Two neighbouring questions: weighing the oil for a 50-candle batch pour by pour covers the bench side of the same arithmetic, and how much stock to keep after a 2,000-candle run covers what to do with a deliberate spare instead of an accidental one.

Diwali is Sunday 8 November 2026, and the November–February wedding season follows. If you need five kilos of one oil, or several oils at kilo quantities, ask for a single quote on WhatsApp. GST invoicing and IFRA documentation are available on request.

Five kilos is enough. Four is enough too. The order book decides the fifth.

After the run, weigh what is left in the last open bottle. If your pour loss was lower than 3%, you will have more spare than this page predicts; if it was higher, less. Either way, the measured figure is the one to use for the next order of the same size, and it is how an order stops being an estimate. Adding a 5% safety stock shows how to build a deliberate buffer instead of an accidental one.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. The title invites us to say "yes, buy 5 kg". It is enough, but for a one-off run four kilos do the same job for ₹3,964.00 less, so this page says that, and it says plainly that CSI's listings stop at 1 kg per oil.

Oil and wax prices are CSI live pricing pulled on 24 September 2026. Wick prices are those verified for Blog 760 on 10 September 2026. Out-of-stock sizes are never offered as buyable. The 3,600 g figure is arithmetic (250 × 180 g × 0.08), and every pack combination was found by pricing all in-stock combinations.

The 3% pour allowance and three test candles are working assumptions. The 5 kg quantity is the reader's figure. CSI lists oils up to 1 kg per listing, and larger quantities are quoted on WhatsApp; no volume discount figure is published. The 3% pour allowance and three test candles are labelled working assumptions; the 5 kg quantity is the reader's figure. CSI lists oils up to 1 kg per listing; larger quantities are quoted on WhatsApp with no published discount. Ceilings: Luxury Soy Wax Chunks up to 13%, CSI 464 up to 10% (wax makers' stated formulation maximums, not regulatory). Jar fill weights are not published for most CSI jars.
