of CSI 468 for both SKUs, bought as one order (14 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg + 2 × 1 kg) · each oil bought on its own · CSI live pricing, October 2026
Quick answers — read this first
Should the wax be one combined requirement? Yes, as the sum of two SKU calculations: 73.39 kg + 73.39 kg = 146.78 kg, bought as 14 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg + 2 × 1 kg.

And the fragrance? Always separate. 6,381.8 g of each, rounded on its own: 6 × 1 kg + 4 × 100 g of Lavender and 6 × 1 kg + 4 × 100 g of Vanilla Bean.

How much does combining save? ₹65.00 and 5 bags at CSI's listed prices. The real gain is one wax lot, fewer bags and shared leftover — not a discount.

What does the order cost? ₹2,16,346.40 in CSI materials with Salsa jars and one shared wick — ₹216.35 per candle. See the priced list.
The short answer
Answer: Combine the wax (146.78 kg), jars and stickers; buy Lavender and Vanilla Bean oil separately (6,381.8 g each); merge wicks only if one wick passes both oils.
Why: Interchangeable materials can cover each other's shortfall; fragrance oils cannot. Each SKU's own allowances keep the combined figure correct if the SKUs ever differ.
Method: Per-SKU stack → add wax, jars, stickers → round once → round each oil separately → trial both oils on both wicks → merge or split the wick order. One BOM or many.

Straight answer
I need 500 lavender candles and 500 vanilla candles — should I calculate wax as one combined requirement while purchasing fragrance separately?
Yes: combine the wax, buy each fragrance separately — but build each SKU's numbers first and then add. For 150 g candles at 8% with 6 trial candles, 2% rejects and 3% pour loss per SKU (labelled working assumptions), each SKU needs 73.39 kg of wax and 6,381.8 g of oil. The combined wax is 146.78 kg — CSI 468 14 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg + 2 × 1 kg, ₹93,665.00. Each oil is rounded on its own: Lavender 6 × 1 kg + 4 × 100 g (₹33,486.00) and Vanilla Bean 6 × 1 kg + 4 × 100 g (₹49,036.00). Jars and stickers merge too; the production wick merges only if one wick passes in both oils. Combining the wax saves just ₹65.00 at CSI's listed prices — its value is one lot, fewer bags and shared leftover. Full order: ₹2,16,346.40.
One line: wax, jars and stickers merge; each oil stands alone; the wick waits for the trial.
Yes — calculate the wax as one combined requirement and buy each fragrance separately. For 500 lavender and 500 vanilla candles of 150 g at 8%, the combined wax is 146.78 kg (14 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg + 2 × 1 kg of CSI 468, ₹93,665.00); the oils are 6,381.8 g of Lavender and 6,381.8 g of Vanilla Bean, each rounded to its own bottles. The full order with 1054 Salsa jars, stickers and wicks is ₹2,16,346.40. Start with the wax: Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 at ₹6,370.00 per 10 kg.

The rule: merge what is interchangeable, separate what is not

A kilo of wax does not know which fragrance it will carry. A kilo of lavender oil cannot become vanilla.

That one sentence decides the whole procurement structure for a two-fragrance run. Anything that is physically the same in both candles — the same wax, the same jar, the same wick sticker — can be counted as one requirement and bought as one order, because a unit left over from one SKU is a unit available to the other. Anything that differs between the SKUs — each fragrance oil, and the wick if the two oils end up needing different wicks — has to be calculated, rounded and bought on its own, because a surplus in one cannot cover a shortfall in the other.

The order of work matters as much as the rule. You do not start from "1,000 candles × 150 g" and then split. You build each SKU's own bill of materials first — its own test candles, rejects and pour loss — and then add the interchangeable lines together. That way, if the two SKUs ever differ (a different load, a different reject rate, more trial candles for one fragrance), the combined wax figure is still correct, because it was always the sum of two real requirements.

4 · Breakage × (1 + 2%) — glass only — — — 527 not applied
1
Write one line per SKUFragrance, candle weight, load, jar, wick candidates, saleable quantity. Two SKUs here; the method is the same for ten.
2
Stack each SKU's allowances on its ownTrial candles, then rejects, then pour loss on wax and oil, then breakage on glass — per SKU, because each can have its own trial count or reject history.
3
Add the interchangeable linesWax (same wax), jars (same jar), stickers. These become single order lines.
4
Round the shared lines onceOne rounding for the combined wax and one for the combined jars — this is where combining saves bags and leftover.
5
Round every oil on its ownEach fragrance's need goes to that oil's own listed bottles. Never round a combined oil figure.
6
Decide the wick line after the trialOne line if one wick passes in both oils; one line per wick if not.

Each SKU: 500 saleable candles plus 6 trial candles (three per wick candidate), a 2% reject allowance, 3% pour loss on wax and oil, and 2% breakage on the glass. Each needs 73.39 kg of wax, 6,381.8 g of oil, 527 jars and 517 wicks. Because both SKUs share a weight, a load and the same allowances, their figures are identical — but they are still two calculations, and the next sections show why that matters the day one of them changes.

The combined wax order, and what combining actually saves

Add the two wax figures: 73.39 kg + 73.39 kg = 146.78 kg. Rounded once to CSI 468's listed bags, that is 14 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg + 2 × 1 kg for ₹93,665.00, leaving 219 g (₹139.35). Now the honest comparison: rounding each SKU's wax separately would mean 7 × 10 kg + 3 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g twice — 22 bags for ₹93,730.00, with 219 g left over. Combining saves ₹65.00 and 5 bags.

Combined versus per-SKU wax rounding
Approach Requirement Bags Bag count Price Leftover
Per SKU (lavender) 73.39 kg 7 × 10 kg + 3 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g 11 ₹46,865.00 109 g
Per SKU (vanilla) 73.39 kg 7 × 10 kg + 3 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g 11 ₹46,865.00 109 g
Per SKU total 146.78 kg two orders 22 ₹93,730.00 219 g
Combined 146.78 kg 14 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg + 2 × 1 kg 17 ₹93,665.00 219 g

So the money saved by combining is small — ₹65.00 on a ₹93,665.00 wax order — and that is worth saying plainly, because "buy combined to save money" is the usual pitch. The real gains are elsewhere: one wax specification and one set of bags for both SKUs, one lot record instead of two, leftover wax that serves whichever SKU needs a remake, and fewer bags to store. At CSI the per-kilo price barely moves with pack size anyway — CSI 468 is ₹650.00 a kilo at 1 kg and ₹637.00 from 5 kg — so the combination's value is operational, not a price break.

CSI 468 is the example wax here because its page publishes the most complete handling set of any CSI soy wax — a 13% fragrance ceiling, a 50–53°C melting point and a 58–60°C pour temperature — which helps when two fragrances must be poured to one process. That is a specification, not a performance claim; CSI publishes no throw or frosting data for any wax. The one-larger-wax-pack post covers the same combine-or-duplicate question for 100 candles, and the one-BOM-or-many post asks when combining stops being safe.

Why each fragrance is bought on its own

Each SKU needs 6,381.8 g of its oil. Rounded on its own, Lavender is 6 × 1 kg + 4 × 100 g for ₹33,486.00 and Vanilla Bean is 6 × 1 kg + 4 × 100 g for ₹49,036.00, each leaving 18 g. Lavender is ₹5.22 a gram at 1 kg against ₹5.40 at 100 g; Vanilla Bean is ₹7.65 against ₹7.90. Both are small breaks, which is typical: on CSI's listed catalogue most oils are priced close to linearly above 100 g, so the bigger bottle buys fewer bottles more than a lower rate.

The mistake to avoid is treating the oil the way you treat the wax. A combined oil figure of 12,763.6 g means nothing to a supplier, and a rounding done on the combined figure can quietly leave one fragrance short: round the combined figure to whole kilos, split the bottles six and six by eye, and vanilla gets 6,000 g against a need of 6,381.8 g — enough for about 485 candles, not 506. Each oil gets its own need, its own rounding and its own line on the purchase order. The same holds for four or more fragrances — the four-fragrance corporate post and the 40/30/20/10 split post round each oil separately at 1,000 candles.

Different loads per fragrance? The wax still adds up
Suppose your trial ends with lavender at 8% and vanilla at 10% (inside CSI 468's published 13% ceiling — an example, not a recommendation). Each vanilla candle now holds 15 g of oil and 135 g of wax, so the vanilla SKU needs 71.80 kg of wax and 7,977.2 g of oil. The combined wax falls to 145.19 kg (14 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg + 1 × 500 g, ₹92,690.00) and the vanilla oil rises to 8 × 1 kg (₹61,168.00). Because the combined figure was built from two SKU figures, it updates correctly; a "1,000 × 138 g" shortcut would have over-bought wax.

Jars, stickers and wicks: two merge, one depends on the trial

Glass and stickers do not care what the candle smells of. Wicks might.

Both SKUs use the 200 ml Salsa Glass Jar with golden lug cap, so the jars merge: 527 + 527 = 1054, bought as 10 × 100 + 1 × 50 + 1 × 5 for ₹31,175.60 (₹29.50 a jar in the 50 and 100 packs; ₹40.12 in the 5-pack). Bought per SKU it would be ₹31,907.20. The cap comes with the jar, so no separate lid line. CSI does not publish the jar's fill weight: 200 ml is the brim volume, and 150 g of wax at an approximate 0.86–0.90 g per ml (a labelled working figure) occupies about 167–174 ml — weigh a test pour to confirm before ordering a thousand.

Wick stickers merge too: one per wick, 1034 in all, 26 sheets of 40 (₹2,600.00). The wick itself merges only if one wick passes in both fragrances. A fragrance oil can change how a melt pool behaves, so trial each fragrance with each candidate — here Eco Thin C1 and Eco Thick C2, three candles per oil per wick. If the same wick passes in both oils, order 1022 production wicks as one line (1 × 500 + 4 × 100 + 1 × 50 + 4 × 20, ₹6,077.00). If lavender passes on Thin C1 and vanilla needs Thick C2, the wick splits into two orders (₹7,976.80) and the BOM becomes two SKUs at the wick line.

What merges · what stays separate · what depends on a result
The procurement structure for a two-fragrance run
Material Merge? Why Order line(s)
Soy wax (CSI 468) Yes Same wax in both candles 1 line · 14 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg + 2 × 1 kg

Vanilla Bean oil No Only vanilla candles use it Own line · 6 × 1 kg + 4 × 100 g
Production wicks Only if one wick passes both Oil can change the pool 1 line or 2, after the trial
The shortcut: "1,000 candles, one wick order" before the trial. It assumes the two oils burn alike. They may; they may not. Fix: trial both oils on both candidates (12 candles per wick type, ₹306.80 of wick packs), then merge the production wick order only if the same wick passes both. If not, you have two wick lines and a one-line note on the BOM explaining why.
The CSI principle
Build every SKU's bill of materials first. Then add the lines that are interchangeable.
Combined wax is a sum of SKU figures, never a guess multiplied by 1,000. Oils never combine. Wicks combine only after a result says they can.

The priced order, split by when to buy

The wax, jars and stickers are shared by both SKUs whatever the trial says, so they are stage one, with a 100 g bottle of each oil and the two trial wick packs. If both fragrances are already in your range and approved, buy the full oil now; if either is new to you, the 100 g bottle covers the 12 trial candles (144 g of oil in all) and the balance follows a passed trial. Production wicks always wait.

Stage one is ₹1,29,077.40; stage two is ₹87,269.00. Without allowances, one candle's material at production rates — 138 g of CSI 468 at the 10 kg rate, 12 g of oil at the 1 kg rate, a ₹5.90 Thin C1 wick and a ₹29.50 Salsa jar with cap — is ₹185.96 for lavender and ₹215.06 for vanilla. The two SKUs share every cost except the oil, which is why their prices can differ while their bills of materials look almost the same. Labels, boxes and courier are your own quotes and are not in the CSI total.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. Combining the wax saves you ₹65.00 at our listed prices, not thousands; do it for one lot and fewer bags, not for a discount we do not publish. And if you already run both fragrances in a cheaper wax that passes your tests, Natural Soy Pearl would cover the same 146.78 kg for ₹62,496.00 — less than CSI 468.

More than two fragrances? The structure holds: one wax line, one jar line, one sticker line, one oil line per fragrance, and wick lines decided by the trial. Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. The usual pitch for combining orders is a bulk saving. At our listed prices combining two wax orders saves very little, and this page says so — the reasons to combine are operational.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use the same wax for two candle fragrances?
Yes, if both pass your trial in it. Then the wax is one combined requirement — the sum of each SKU's own wax figure — bought as one order.
How do I calculate fragrance oil for two candle scents?
Separately: candles × candle weight × load, plus that SKU's trial candles, rejects and pour loss. Here 6,381.8 g each, rounded to each oil's own bottles.
Does buying wax in one big order save money?
At CSI's listed prices only slightly — ₹65.00 here — because per-kilo prices barely change with pack size. No volume discount figure is published; larger orders are quoted on WhatsApp.
Do lavender and vanilla candles need different wicks?
They might. A fragrance oil can change how the melt pool behaves. Trial both oils on each wick candidate and merge the wick order only if one wick passes both.
How much wax for 1,000 candles of 150 g?
At 8%, 138 kg net (1,000 × 138 g); 146.78 kg with 12 trial candles, 2% rejects and 3% pour loss.
Which jar holds 150 g of candle wax?
CSI does not publish a fill weight for the 200 ml Salsa jar used here; at a labelled 0.86–0.90 g/ml, 150 g needs about 167–174 ml. Weigh a test pour.

Non-price figures and assumptions: CSI convention: fragrance load is a share of finished candle weight (150 g at 8% = 12 g oil + 138 g wax). What CSI's product pages state (quoted, not CSI test results): Luxury Soy Wax Chunks — maximum fragrance load 13%, cure minimum 48 hours, ideally 1–2 weeks; Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 — fragrance load up to 10%; Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 — fragrance load up to 13%, melting point 50–53°C, pour 58–60°C; Natural Soy Pearl — no fragrance ceiling, temperatures or shelf life published. The 150 g fill, 8% load, 6 trial candles per SKU, 2% rejects, 3% pour loss, 2% breakage, the example 10% vanilla load and the approximate 0.86–0.90 g/ml wax density are labelled working assumptions or examples. CSI publishes no fill weight for the Salsa jar, no wick-size charts and no throw data. Costs exclude labour, labels, packaging, freight and GST.
