I Need to Ship Candles Immediately After Production — Will They Continue Curing During Transit and Storage Before the Customer Burns Them?
Aktie
Can I ship candles immediately after pouring? It is not recommended. A freshly poured candle may not be fully set for handling, you cannot run a QC burn on a batch that has already gone, and a customer who lights it on arrival burns an unfinished candle. Cure to your checkpoint before dispatch.
How do I plan stock so I can cure before shipping? Hold a cure pipeline: sales per week × checkpoint in weeks. Selling 120 a week with a 7-day checkpoint means 120 candles always curing, which is ₹32,081.38 of materials in this example.
What is my last pour date for Diwali delivery? Work backwards: arrival by 6 November (an example), minus your courier's longest transit (example 5 days), minus your checkpoint. With 7 days that is 25 October; with 14 days, 18 October.
What happens in the box
The general mechanism is set out in why curing affects fragrance performance. Soy wax keeps crystallising after it looks solid, and the fragrance becomes more evenly held as it does. Nothing about that requires your shelf. It carries on in a parcel, a warehouse and the customer's cupboard. So the literal answer to "will they keep curing?" is generally yes. The practical answer depends on three things you do not control once the parcel leaves.
| Factor | On your curing shelf | In transit and storage | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Temperature | Steady, chosen by you | Unknown; vans and warehouses can be very hot by day | Heat commonly causes softening, sweating, frosting and pull-away in soy |
| Handling | Still, upright | Vibration, drops, tilting | A barely set candle can mark, crack or shift its wick |
| Air around the surface | Covered, clean | Sealed box, or a jar near other goods | Unlidded surfaces can pick up odours and dust |
| QC | You burn a retained candle at the checkpoint | Impossible once the batch has gone | Problems show up as customer complaints instead |
| When the "test" happens | At the checkpoint, by you | Whenever the customer lights it | Often the day it arrives |
The last row is the one that decides the question. Your customer does not know your checkpoint, and many will light a new candle the evening it arrives. Whatever the wax does in transit, that customer is testing a candle of pour-to-delivery age, and in their eyes that is the candle you sold.
Age at first burn
The number that matters is the candle's age when it is first lit. It is dispatch day plus transit time, plus however long the customer waits, which you should assume could be zero. The table below uses an example transit range of 2–5 days. Replace it with your courier's range for your usual destinations. The checkpoints are examples of what a cure register might show, not specifications.
| When you dispatch | Dispatch day (pour = day 0) | Age at first burn | 7-day checkpoint | 14-day checkpoint |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Next day after pouring | day 1 | 3–6 days | Below | Below |
| 3 days after pouring | day 3 | 5–8 days | Only if transit is slow | Below |
| At a 7-day checkpoint | day 7 | 9–12 days | Meets | Below |
| At a 14-day checkpoint | day 14 | 16–19 days | Meets | Meets |
Only dispatching at or after the checkpoint guarantees that every customer gets a finished candle. Dispatching a few days early and counting on transit to make up the difference works only when transit is slow, which is exactly when you have least control over conditions. For a 14-day formula, shipping the day after pouring hands every eager customer a candle less than half cured.
Curing before dispatch: the pipeline
The usual objection to curing before dispatch is "I can't make customers wait a week". You do not have to. You pour a week ahead, once, and from then on every candle you ship is a week old. The cost is the stock that sits in the pipeline. The rule is simple: stock in cure = sales per week × checkpoint in weeks. At 120 candles a week and a 7-day checkpoint, that is 120 candles, split here between two festive scents.
| Scent | Candles in cure | Oil per candle | Material per candle | Pipeline value |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Apple Cinnamon (₹4,743.60 / kg) | 60 | ₹75.90 | ₹262.81 | ₹15,768.82 |
| Pumpkin Spice (₹5,310.00 / kg) | 60 | ₹84.96 | ₹271.88 | ₹16,312.56 |
| Total | 120 | ₹32,081.38 | ||
| Example cost of money at 12% a year (replace with yours) | about ₹73.83 a week |
The pipeline ties up ₹32,081.38 of materials once. Its running cost at an example 12% a year is about ₹73.83 a week, which is small against the value of shipping finished candles. The real constraints are cash at the start, when you pour the extra week, and shelf space. A 14-day checkpoint doubles both. Base per candle is ₹186.92: 184 g of Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, one Eco Thin C1 wick and one White Matte jar.
Last pour dates for Diwali
Diwali falls on 8 November 2026. If a customer wants the candle for the day, it should arrive a little before. The table uses an example arrival target of 6 November, two days before Diwali, and an example longest transit of 5 days. Work backwards from there and your checkpoint gives the last date a candle can be poured for that promise.
| Your checkpoint | Last pour | Last dispatch | Arrives by |
|---|---|---|---|
| 7 days | 25 October | 1 November | 6 November |
| 14 days | 18 October | 1 November | 6 November |
Add your own packing time on top. After the last pour date, any new orders must be served from the pipeline, or promised for after Diwali. The same backward logic applies to corporate gifting, which usually has an even harder date. Shortening cure for a corporate order covers what can and cannot be moved when a client's date is tight.
The festive pipeline order
The order below fills one week of pipeline, 120 candles split between two festive scents, 200 g at 8% in Luxury Soy Wax Chunks. That is 960 g of each oil and 22,080 g of wax. The oils are chosen for the season's fruit-and-spice direction and their pack pricing. CSI publishes no cure or throw data for them, so their checkpoints come from your tests.

Packing and labelling
Packing does not replace cure, but it can protect a cured candle on its way. General practice is to ship candles fully set, upright where possible, wrapped so the jar cannot move, with the surface protected. Many makers use a lid, a card disc or tissue over the top. CSI's packing tissue paper is ₹6.50 a sheet. CSI does not list lids for the White Matte jar, boxes, mailers or bubble wrap, so price those from your own suppliers and put them in your costing as clearly labelled figures.
A simple card or label line helps too: the pour date, or a "best enjoyed from" date, and short burn instructions. It tells the careful customer what you know, and it costs you nothing if your candles are already at their checkpoint when they ship. It is not a substitute for curing before dispatch. A "wait a week" note on a candle that needs two is a problem passed to the customer.
Storage after delivery matters too, but you cannot control it. What you can do is make the candle robust: a validated checkpoint, a QC pass and a formula that does not sweat. Sweating at higher loads covers that last point, and a repeatable mixing and curing protocol brings the pipeline, QC and dispatch into one written procedure.
CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. Advising you to hold a cure pipeline brings a purchase forward for us. We also tell you to keep that pipeline no longer than your measured checkpoint, and not to hold stock "to be safe".
Oil and wax prices come from CSI's live listings pulled on 24 September 2026. Jar prices are as verified for Blog 760 on 10 September 2026, wick prices are from the 25 September pull and tissue paper from CSI's packaging listing. Pipeline, per-candle and date figures are plain arithmetic, shown so you can check them.
The transit range, arrival target, checkpoints, weekly sales and the 12% money rate are examples you replace with your own figures. CSI publishes no cure-time data, no delivery times and no prices for lids, boxes, mailers or courier. For documents or a festive quote, message +91 7397976926.

Non-price figures and assumptions: Load is a share of finished weight: 200 g at 8% = 16 g oil + 184 g wax. Material per candle = oil + ₹186.92 base (184 g Chunks at ₹599.00 / kg, Thin C1 ₹5.90, White Matte jar ₹70.80), excluding labour, packaging, freight and GST. Pipeline = weekly sales × checkpoint weeks; 120 a week and a 7-day checkpoint are examples. The 2–5-day transit, the arrival target and the 12% annual money rate are examples the reader replaces. Checkpoints (7, 14 days) are working figures, not specifications; CSI publishes no cure-time or delivery-time data. Effects of heat and handling are general candle-making practice, not CSI measurements. CSI lists no lids for the White Matte jar, boxes, mailers or courier.
