Which load figure governs — the wax page or the oil page? The lower of the two, always. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks states up to 13% of total wax weight and Mahogany Teakwood states 7–9% in soy, so on that pairing 9% governs. In summer, work a point under the governing figure rather than at it.
Has my wax melted in the heat? Almost certainly not. The only melting point CSI publishes for a soy grade is on the Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468 page: 50–53°C, with a pour temperature of 58–60°C. A 40°C storeroom is well below that. Sweating is oil leaving a softened structure, not wax melting.
How long does the test take? Fourteen days, run alongside the cure you were doing anyway. Six 200 g jars — two each at 7%, 9% and 11% — split between your coolest room and where stock actually sits, read at day 3, 7 and 14. Materials come to ₹2,249.20.
Why a candle that was clean at 48 hours beads in May
This is the confusing part, and it is where most makers go wrong. Your jar passed its 48-hour check in February. It sat on a shelf, cured, was photographed, was packed, and looked perfect. In the third week of April it has a film of oil across the top and a smear where the label meets the glass. Nothing about the recipe changed, so the maker assumes the oil must have changed — a new lot, a bad batch, something the supplier did. Almost always, nothing was wrong with the oil.
Set soy wax holds fragrance oil in the spaces its crystal structure leaves behind. That holding is physical, not chemical, and it is not a fixed capacity — it weakens as the wax warms and softens, long before anything melts. Look at the chart above: the only melting figure CSI publishes for a soy grade is on the Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468 page, which gives a melting point of 50–53°C and a pour temperature of 58–60°C. A workroom in Delhi or Ahmedabad in May sits some ten degrees under the bottom of that melting range. Your candle is nowhere near liquid. It is simply softer than it was in February, and oil that was marginally held at 24°C is no longer held at 40°C.
So the summer question is not “has my wax melted”. It is “was my oil loading marginal all along, and has summer just revealed it”. That reframing matters commercially, because it tells you where to look. A load that is comfortably inside both published ceilings does not usually start beading because the room got warmer. A load that was sitting right at the top of the governing ceiling, or a point or two past it, will pass a winter check and fail an April one. Summer is a stress test you did not ask for.
The honest order of suspects, and the reason this page is titled the way it is: the load first, the storage second, the oil last. That order is not flattering to a fragrance oil supplier. CSI sells oil, and the cheapest fix here is almost always to use two percentage points less of the oil you already own — which on Mahogany Teakwood at ₹8,800.00/kg means spending ₹140.80 of oil per 200 g jar instead of ₹176.00, a saving of ₹35.20 a jar. There is no version of this page in which recommending a different, more expensive oil is the first answer.
Load, oil or storage: three suspects and the order to check them
There are exactly three places the fault can live, and they are not equally likely, equally expensive or equally easy to check. Work them in this order and you will spend the least money getting to the answer. Nobody publishes honest frequencies for these — no supplier has that data, and inventing it would help nobody — so the ranking below is by cost of checking, not by probability.

That third row is the one worth reading twice. An oil is only implicated when a jar poured two percentage points below the governing ceiling, stored in the coolest place you have, still beads at day 14. That is a narrow condition, and if you reach it, the useful next step is not a different brand of the same scent — it is the same load in the same wax with a structurally different oil, so that you are comparing like with like. Citrus Lemon at ₹2,832.00/kg and Sandalwood at ₹5,026.80/kg both state soy up to 10% of total wax weight on their pages and sit in very different families, which makes either of them a reasonable control.
The storage suspect deserves more respect than it usually gets, because it is the only one that can produce a fault in stock that was made correctly. A jar poured at a sound load, cured properly, and then left for three days in a closed carton on a warehouse mezzanine in Nagpur in May has been given every opportunity to release whatever it was holding marginally. The recipe is innocent and the batch is still unsellable. Which means the fix is in your logistics, not in your formula, and no change of oil will touch it.
What your oil page actually allows — and the 9% trap
Every fragranced soy candle has two stated limits, and they come from different places. The wax grade publishes a maximum fragrance load as a percentage of total wax weight — up to 10% on the CSI 464 page, up to 13% on the Luxury Soy Wax Chunks and CSI 468 pages, and nothing at all on the Eco Soy CSI 400 page, which does not publish one. The oil page publishes its own candle usage range. When the two differ, the lower figure governs. That rule is not seasonal advice; it is the rule all year. But summer is when breaking it shows.
The trap is the oil whose stated range tops out below the wax maximum. A maker reads “up to 13%” on the Chunks page, runs 10% because that feels conservative, and does not notice that the oil page says 7–9% in soy. Ten per cent on an oil rated to 9% is over the governing figure, and it will often be the jars from exactly that formula that bead in a Delhi May. Two CSI oils make the point plainly: Mahogany Teakwood states 7–9% fragrance load in soy wax, and Coffee Vanilla Tobacco states 7–9% in soy. Both are excellent oils. Neither is a 10% oil.

Now the summer refinement, and it is the most useful sentence on this page. If you sell through the Indian summer, do not treat the governing ceiling as your working load — treat it as your absolute maximum and work a point or two under it. A jar at 9% of wax weight where the ceiling is 10% has a margin; a jar at exactly 10% has none, and the first 40°C week will find out. On Mahogany Teakwood the difference between 20 g and 16 g in a 200 g pour is ₹35.20 per jar in oil, so summer margin is something you get paid to take, not something you pay for (working inside the safe load).
The two-week summer test: six jars, three loads, two shelves
A 48-hour check catches a pour-day fault. It does not catch a marginal load, because a marginal load needs warmth and time to declare itself. The test below runs for 14 days, which conveniently is also the cure window during which you were going to be holding the stock anyway. It uses 1.2 kg of wax, one bottle of oil, six wicks and six jars, and it answers the question in the title of this page definitively for your wax, your oil and your actual storage conditions.

The fifth row is the one to be disciplined about. A batch that survives 11% through a warm fortnight has told you something about that fortnight, not about the oil page. Published maximums are the wax manufacturer’s stated formulation limits and the oil page’s stated candle range, and a single passing test is not a reason to publish a product above them. Keep the margin. It costs ₹35.20 a jar and it is the cheapest insurance in the whole process (why candles sweat fragrance oil).
Does the wax grade matter in summer? What is published and what is not
This is where an honest answer is shorter than the one you want. The Premium Coconut Soy CSI 468 page publishes a melting point of 50–53°C and a pour temperature of 58–60°C. Those are the figures in the chart at the top of this page. For Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 the page gives 80–90°C as the working range for melting and pouring. For Luxury Soy Wax Chunks the published working figures are a melt to approximately 80–85°C, fragrance in at 80–90°C with a slow two-minute stir, and a pour at 75–80°C. For Eco Soy CSI 400, fragrance goes in at 85°C within an 80–90°C band. A melting point for the three soy grades other than CSI 468 is not published, so this page will not give you one — ask on WhatsApp if your summer planning depends on it.
What you can take from the published information is narrower but still useful. A coconut-soy blend with a stated melting point in the low fifties is, by its own page, a softer material than a wax you melt at 80–85°C, and softer materials are more sensitive to a warm storeroom. That does not make CSI 468 a bad summer wax — it is sold for a one-pour, ultra-smooth finish and its page states hot and cold throw and excellent glass adhesion, and plenty of Indian makers build premium ranges on it. It does mean that if you are running a coconut-soy blend at the top of its ceiling and storing stock at 40°C, you have stacked two variables in the same direction.

Vybar comes up in every summer discussion, so here is the position. The Vybar Additive page says it is compatible with soy, paraffin, coconut and blends, that it should be used at 0.5–2% of wax weight with the lower end 0.5–1% for soy, that it goes into melted wax before fragrance and colour, and it claims improved fragrance retention with less mottling and sweating. At ₹156.00 for 50g (₹3,120.00/kg), 2 g in a 200 g jar is ₹6.24 — ₹374.40 across sixty jars. Treat it as a controlled experiment on one arm of the test above, not as a fix: an additive cannot rescue a load that is over the governing ceiling, and single-pour soys such as CSI 400 are sold as needing no additives at all (does Vybar improve hot throw).
Storage, packing and the courier van: the half that is not your recipe
CSI does not publish a storage temperature for finished candles, and this page will not invent one. What the wax pages do state is cool, dry storage away from sunlight and moisture, with CSI 464 and CSI 468 both quoting a 60-month shelf life in cool, dry conditions and CSI 468 asking to be kept sealed. That instruction is written for raw wax, and it is the sensible instruction for a cured jar too. Everything below follows from it rather than from any number a supplier has published.
Where stock actually sits, and the four places to stop using in April
Walk your own premises with this list. A shelf on an outside wall that catches afternoon sun. The top of a cupboard, where a room’s warmest air collects. A closed plastic crate stacked with other closed crates, which holds its own heat for hours after the room has cooled. And any surface within a metre of a window in a west-facing room after 3 pm. Those four locations produce more summer complaints than any fragrance oil on the CSI list, and moving stock out of them costs nothing at all.
Then look at packing. Warm jars boxed on the same day hold their heat, and a stack of sealed cartons holds it longer. In a monsoon month the same sealed carton also traps whatever moisture came in with the packaging. Leave jars out, uncovered and unstacked, until they are at room temperature and through their reading days, then box them. If you ship with lids on, do it after the jars are cool, not while they are warm from a top-up.
Transit: the part where honesty is more useful than optimism
A parcel travelling by road in May spends time in vehicles and sorting facilities you cannot see, and a sealed carton in that environment is warmer than the shade temperature outside it. CSI does not publish delivery times and neither should you guarantee them. What you can do is reduce exposure: dispatch early in the week rather than on a Friday, choose the shorter route where you have the option, and ship summer orders in tin containers where the design allows it — ₹849.60 for a pack of 12 at 85 gram, ₹70.80 a unit — since a dented tin is a cosmetic problem and a sweating glass jar with a lifted label is a refund.
One more piece of honesty, because two real CSI reviews raise it. Delivery charges on raw-material orders are a genuine complaint from customers, and in summer they interact with this problem: the temptation is to order little and often, which raises freight per kilogram and puts more consignments on the road in the hottest months. The better pattern is to consolidate — buy the 5 kg or 10 kg wax pack and the 500 g or 1 kg oil pack once, in March, before the peak heat, and store the raw materials in the cool room properly sealed. CSI 464 is ₹2,537.00 for 5 kg and ₹5,074.00 for 10 kg, and bulk quantities beyond the listed variants are a WhatsApp conversation (how early to order for Diwali).
What the fix costs, and what a sweating summer batch costs
Price it properly and this stops being a judgement call. The costing unit here is 200 g of CSI 464 at ₹507.40/kg (₹101.48), Mahogany Teakwood at ₹8,800.00/kg, a Thin (C1) Eco Candle Wick at ₹5.90 and a Clear Glass Jar with Golden Lid at ₹94.40. At the governing 9% that jar is ₹360.18 in materials. At 10% — over the oil page’s stated range — it is ₹377.78. At 8%, with a comfortable point of summer margin, it is ₹342.58.

Now the other side of the ledger. Sixty jars at 10% is ₹22,666.80 in materials. If a summer week puts an oily film on all of them, you have not lost ₹22,666.80 — you have lost that plus the jars, the labels, the packing, the freight on anything already dispatched, and the time to remake before the order date. Diluting is possible where the cause was purely the dose: melt the jars back, add wax until the oil is inside the governing figure, and re-pour into fresh glass. What a remelt cannot do is turn sixty jars into sixty jars, because adding wax adds volume.
Set against that, the test in this page costs ₹2,249.20 and takes fourteen days you were going to spend curing anyway. Run it in the first week of April, write the result on the inside of a cupboard door, and you have a summer working load for that wax and that oil. Do it for your two bestselling scents and you have covered most of your revenue. The oils whose pages state a soy range topping out at 9% or 10% are the ones to test first, because they are the ones with no headroom (fragrance oils for Indian summers, summer scents that perform in heat).
