Production calculator · Jar and mould candles together
A jar candle and a mould candle can share a scent and a sales table, but not a wax. Container wax is made to hold a jar and pillar wax is made to release from a mould. Calculate each product line on its own terms, then pool only what is interchangeable.

Luxury Soy Wax Chunks 24,566.53 g for 300 tins + Soy Pillar Wax 51,353.33 g for 200 pillars · one pooled Lavender order of 5,414.09 g · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
Can I calculate jar and mould candle wax together? Not as one wax figure. Jar candles pour a container wax and mould candles pour a pillar wax. They are different products with different loads, allowances and bag sizes, so run two calculations and place two wax orders. Pool only an oil used in both.

What does the jar line need? 300 Golden Aluminium Tins at the published 85 g fill, 8% load, 5 test tins and 3% loss: 2,136.22 g of oil and 24,566.53 g of Luxury Soy Wax Chunks (2 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg, ₹14,993.00).

And the mould line? 200 pillars at an illustrative 250 g, 5 g trim, 2% failed releases, 3 tests, 3% loss, 6% labelled test load: 3,277.87 g of oil and 51,353.33 g of Soy Pillar Wax (5 × 10 kg + 1 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g, ₹30,900.00).

What can be combined? The fragrance oil, if both lines use the same scent. Here Lavender is 5,414.09 g in one order (5 × 1 kg + 4 × 100 g + 1 × 15 g, ₹28,370.02) instead of two (₹28,475.04). The wicks cannot be combined, because each line uses a different wick type.
The short answer
Rule: One calculation per wax: count × fill (+ trim) → tests and failures → loss → split at that product's load → round in that wax's bags. Sum oil only within a scent.
Jar line: 305 × 85 g × 1.03 = 26,702.75 g → 8%: 2,136.22 g oil + 24,566.53 g Chunks → 2 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg = ₹14,993.00.
Mould line: 208 pours × 255 g × 1.03 = 54,631.20 g → 6%: 3,277.87 g oil + 51,353.33 g pillar wax → 5 × 10 kg + 1 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g = ₹30,900.00. Several mould designs on one wax can be combined.
Two products, two waxes, one fragrance — what to keep apart and what to pool Jar line · 300 × 85 g tins +5 tests · 3% loss · 8% load scented total 26,702.75 g oil 2,136.22 g · wax 24,566.53 g Mould line · 200 × 250 g pillars 5 g trim · 2% fail · 3 tests · 3% loss · 6% scented total 54,631.20 g oil 3,277.87 g · wax 51,353.33 g Luxury Soy Wax Chunks 2 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg Soy Pillar Wax 5 × 10 kg + 1 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g Lavender, pooled 5,414.09 g Solid lines: never combine the waxes. Dashed: the same oil can be pooled across products and rounded once.
Each product line is calculated on its own, with its own fill, allowances and load, and bought in its own wax. The two wax orders never meet. The Lavender oil is the one material both lines share, so it is pooled and rounded once. Fills other than the tin's published 85 g, and all allowances, are illustrative or labelled working assumptions.
Straight answer
I want to buy enough wax for both jar candles and mould candles. How should I calculate quantities separately when the two products use different waxes?
Run two complete calculations, one per wax, and join them only at the checkout. For the jar line, 300 Golden Aluminium Tins at their published 85 g fill, with 5 test tins and 3% pour loss, give 26,702.75 g of scented wax. At 8% that is 2,136.22 g of oil and 24,566.53 g of Luxury Soy Wax Chunks (rated up to 13%): 2 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg, ₹14,993.00. For the mould line, 200 pillars at an illustrative weighed 250 g, with 5 g trimmed each, 2% failed releases, 3 test pours and 3% loss, come to 208 pours and 54,631.20 g. At a 6% labelled test load that is 3,277.87 g of oil and 51,353.33 g of Soy Pillar Wax: 5 × 10 kg + 1 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g, ₹30,900.00. CSI publishes no fragrance ceiling for pillar wax. Never add the two wax figures together. 75,919.86 g of "wax" is not something you can buy or pour. Pool only what is really shared. If both lines use Lavender, their oil is one 5,414.09 g order (5 × 1 kg + 4 × 100 g + 1 × 15 g). Wicks stay separate: tabbed container wicks for the tins, and braided wick for the pillars.
One line: add oils within a scent, never waxes across products.
The jar line is built on the one CSI container with a published fill weight: the Golden Aluminium Tin, 85 g fill, ₹360.00 for 12 (₹30.00 each). For 305 tins, including tests, that is 26 packs, ₹9,360.00.

Why the two waxes never share a figure

A kilo of container wax and a kilo of pillar wax weigh the same and do opposite jobs.

Container waxes such as Luxury Soy Wax Chunks and CSI 464 are made to stay in a jar. They are soft enough to hold to the glass or tin and to melt to the edge. A pillar wax is made to leave a mould. It is formulated to shrink away from the silicone, stand on its own and hold its shape. In general practice, a container wax in a pillar mould is hard to release and soft on the shelf, and a pillar wax in a jar tends to pull away from the sides. So the two lines do not share a wax. It follows that they cannot share a wax figure, a wax order or a leftover bag.

They also differ in everything else the calculator uses. The load: Luxury Soy Wax Chunks are rated up to 13%, while CSI publishes no ceiling for Soy Pillar Wax, so the pillars run at a more cautious labelled test load. The allowances: a tin has no release to fail and nothing to trim, while a pillar has both. The fill: the tin's 85 g is published, while the pillar's weight must be weighed. And the wick: tabbed container wicks for tins, braided wick threaded through the mould for pillars. Two products, two sets of numbers.

Why each line gets its own calculation
Jar line vs mould line, input by input
Input Jar line (Golden Tin) Mould line (pillar)
Wax Luxury Soy Wax Chunks (container) Soy Pillar Wax (pillar and designer)
Published fragrance ceiling Up to 13% (wax maker's stated maximum) None published — check the product page
Load used here 8% 6% (labelled test load)
Fill per unit 85 g — published for this tin 250 g — illustrative, must be weighed
Trim per unit None 5 g (labelled)
Failed releases None — nothing to release 2% (labelled)
Test units 5 tins 3 pours
Pour loss 3% (labelled) 3% (labelled)
Wick Tabbed container wick (Eco Thin C1) Braided wick, threaded
Label the wax bins, not just the bags
Once the bags are open, container flakes or chunks and pillar wax can look alike. Pour each into a labelled bin, keep a separate melter or jug for each if you can, and never top up one melter from the other's bin. A pillar poured with container wax in it is a candle that will not release cleanly.
1
Split the order into product lines by waxEvery product that pours from the same wax is one line. Here there are two: tins in Luxury Soy Wax Chunks, and pillars in Soy Pillar Wax.
2
Give each line its own inputsFill (published or weighed), trim, failure rate, tests, pour loss and load. Do not borrow a figure from the other line.
3
Calculate each line to oil and waxUnits poured × (fill + trim) × (1 + loss), then split at that line's load.
4
Round each wax in its own bagsTwo wax orders, each rounded once. Never add them into one figure.
5
Pool the oil within each scentAdd the grams of a scent used in both lines, then round once. Different scents stay separate.
6
Keep wicks, containers and moulds per lineTabbed wicks and tins belong to the jar line, and braided wick and moulds to the mould line.

Line 1: the jar candles

The Golden Aluminium Tin is listed with an 85 g fill weight. It is the only CSI container in this series with a published fill. We treat 85 g as the finished candle weight. Confirm it with one weighed pour in your wax, because fill line and wax can shift it by a gram or two. Tins do not fail on release and are not trimmed, so the allowances are just tests and pour loss:

300 tins · published 85 g fill · 8% load · 5 test tins · 3% pour loss (working assumption)
Jar line: oil and container wax
Step Units Scented weight Oil (8%) Wax (92%)
Net 300 25,500 g 2,040 g 23,460 g
+ 5 test tins 305 25,925 g 2,074 g 23,851 g
+ 3% pour loss — 26,702.75 g 2,136.22 g 24,566.53 g
Rounded — — pooled below 2 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg Chunks · ₹14,993.00

At 8%, Luxury Soy Wax Chunks have five points of headroom below their stated 13% maximum. If you would rather pour CSI 464 (rated up to 10%), the same 24,566.53 g is 2 × 10 kg + 1 × 5 kg for ₹12,685.00, cheaper by ₹2,308.00. Test it first. The wick for an 85 g tin is not published, so burn-test an Eco Candle Wicks Thin C1 first. I Have 250 Jars with a Tested 160 g Wax Fill — How Much Wax and Fragrance Should I Order to Fill All of Them at 8% Fragrance Load? covers jars with a tested fill, and I Ordered 100 × 200 ml Candle Jars — How Do I Calculate How Much Wax They Actually Need When 200 ml Does Not Mean 200 g of Candle Wax? explains why a printed ml is not a fill weight.

Line 2: the mould candles

The pillars are poured in CSI's Pillar Candle Mould, whose fill is not published. The 250 g finished weight here is illustrative. My Silicone Mould Holds 240 g of Water — How Do I Estimate How Much Pillar Wax Is Required for Each Finished Candle? shows how to get yours from a water fill and one weighed candle. The pillar line carries the allowances a tin does not need: trimming on every pour, failed releases, and test pours counted as whole candles.

200 pillars · 250 g illustrative finished weight · 5 g trim · 2% failed releases · 3 tests · 3% pour loss · 6% labelled test load
Mould line: oil and pillar wax
Step Pours Scented weight Oil (6%) Wax (94%)
Net (finished) 200 50,000 g 3,000 g 47,000 g
+ failed releases (200 ÷ 0.98 → 205) + 3 tests 208 52,000 g 3,120 g 48,880 g
+ 5 g trim per pour 208 53,040 g 3,182.40 g 49,857.60 g
+ 3% pour loss — 54,631.20 g 3,277.87 g 51,353.33 g
Rounded — — pooled below 5 × 10 kg + 1 × 1 kg + 1 × 500 g Soy Pillar Wax · ₹30,900.00

The 6% load is a labelled test value. No fragrance ceiling for Soy Pillar Wax is published in our data, so check the product page or ask on WhatsApp for the wax maker's stated maximum, and test before scaling. A freestanding pillar has no jar to hide seeping oil. The trim and failure figures are working assumptions. I Need 1,000 Fragranced Mould Candles — How Do I Calculate Wax and Fragrance When Each Candle Loses a Small Amount During Trimming and Finishing? explains why the oil must be planned on the poured weight, trim included, and I Have 25 Kg of Pillar Wax — How Many 150 g Mould Candles Can I Realistically Produce After Accounting for Spills and Trimming Waste? runs this line in reverse from a fixed wax quantity.

Two calculations, two wax orders. The only thing allowed to cross between them is an oil both products use.

What to pool, what to keep apart

With both lines calculated, sort the materials. Oil of the same scent pools, even at different loads, because a gram of Lavender is a gram of Lavender whichever wax it ends up in. 2,136.22 g + 3,277.87 g = 5,414.09 g, rounded once. Wax never pools across products. Wicks pool only within a type and size, and these two lines use different types. Here is what pooling the oil saves, and what the three common combining mistakes do:

Three combining mistakes
Mistake What it produces Consequence
Add the two waxes into one figure 75,919.86 g of "wax" Buy it all as Chunks (₹45,587.00) and the pillars are in a container wax. Buy it all as pillar wax (₹45,600.00) and the tins are in a pillar wax. Either way one line is in the wrong wax.
Apply one load to both lines 8% everywhere: 6,506.72 g oil The pillars run at 8% in a wax with no published ceiling, 1,092.62 g more oil than planned. That is untested and may seep.
Finished weight × count, one pot 300 × 85 g + 200 × 250 g = 75,500 g No trim, no failures, no tests, no loss, and no split between waxes. It is short on both lines, and you find out on the last day.
"It's all soy, so buy one bag type." Both waxes here are soy-based, which makes the mistake feel harmless. They are formulated for opposite jobs, though. Buying 75,919.86 g of whichever is cheaper per kilo saves nothing if a third of the candles will not release or will pull away from the tin. Keep the two orders separate. I Have Three Bulk Orders Happening in the Same Month — How Do I Combine Their Wax Requirements While Keeping Fragrance Oils and Packaging Quantities Separate? covers combining separate customer orders, where the same rule applies: add what is interchangeable, and keep apart what is not.
Argued against our own interest, plainly. Pooling the Lavender saves ₹105.02. That is real but small, because most oils, Lavender included, cost almost the same per gram at 500 g as at 1 kg. Pool it for the simpler order and single batch, not for a discount. And do not round either wax up to extra 10 kg bags "because you'll use it". Soy Pillar Wax is ₹0.60 a gram in every bag, and Luxury Soy Wax Chunks are within a paisa a gram of that across their sizes, so buying ahead saves nothing.

The CSI principle
One calculation per wax. One order per scent.
Jar and mould candles differ in wax, load, fill, allowances and wick. Calculate each line from start to finish on its own. Then pool only the oil that really is the same, and round it once.
Mixed jar-and-mould ranges are typical for Diwali (8 November 2026) gift tables and wedding-season hampers. Send us both lines, with counts, fills and scents. We will quote container wax, pillar wax, oils, tins and wicks on one WhatsApp thread, with GST invoicing.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. We sell both waxes on this page, and the advice is still to buy exactly what each line needs, in the right wax. The page is also clear that pooling oil saves a little rounding, not a discount.

Wax, oil, tin, wick and wick-roll prices are CSI live pricing pulled on 24–25 September 2026. Out-of-stock sizes are marked, never offered. The tin's 85 g fill is its published figure. The pillar's 250 g weight is illustrative. Every gram and rupee figure is arithmetic shown to two decimals.

The 5 test tins, 3 test pours, 3% pour loss, 5 g trim, 2% failed releases, 12 cm of wick and the 6% pillar load are labelled working assumptions. Luxury Soy Wax Chunks are rated up to 13% (the wax maker's stated maximum, not a regulatory limit). No ceiling for Soy Pillar Wax is published in our data. Frequently asked questions

Can I use the same wax for jar candles and pillar candles?
Generally, no. Container waxes are formulated to hold a jar and melt to the edge. Pillar waxes are formulated to release from a mould and stand on their own. In general practice each performs poorly in the other's job, so use a container wax for jars and a pillar wax for moulds, and test both.
How do I calculate wax for jar and pillar candles in one order?
Run two separate calculations: count × fill (plus trim for pillars), then tests, failures and loss, then split at each product's own load and round in that wax's bags. Place two wax orders. Add oil across the lines only where both use the same scent.
What is the fill weight of the Golden Aluminium Tin?
It is listed with an 85 g fill weight, the one CSI container in this series with a published fill. Confirm it with a weighed pour in your wax and fill line. Packs of 12 cost ₹360.00 (₹30.00 each).
Can I combine fragrance oil for jar and mould candles?
Yes, if both use the same scent. Add the oil grams from each line, even at different loads, and round once. Here Lavender is 2,136.22 g + 3,277.87 g = 5,414.09 g. Different scents stay separate.
Why use a lower fragrance load for pillar candles?
No fragrance ceiling for Soy Pillar Wax is published in our data, and freestanding candles show seeping oil on the surface. This page uses 6% as a labelled test load for pillars and 8% for tins in Luxury Soy Wax Chunks (rated up to 13%). Test both before scaling.
Do jar candles need less wax allowance than mould candles?
Usually. A tin or jar has nothing to release and nothing to trim, so its allowances are test units and pour loss. A mould candle adds trimming on every pour and failed releases. Give each line its own allowances rather than one blanket percentage.
Two lines, two waxes, one shared scent
