Fifty times the output, on the same materials, at live CSI rates. Three of the four material lines do not move at all, and the ones that do move are smaller than most plans assume.
₹8.47
taken off one 200 g candle by growing from 100 to 5,000 units a month · 2.48% of ₹341.57 · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
How much does my cost per candle actually fall between 100 and 5,000 units a month? On live CSI materials in September 2026, from ₹341.57 to ₹333.10 — a fall of ₹8.47, or 2.48%. Nearly all of it is test-batch amortisation. The materials themselves cost exactly the same at 5,000 a month as at 100.

Does the wax get cheaper per kilogram as I buy more? No, not above the first step. Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 is ₹520.00/kg in the 500 g pack and ₹507.40/kg in the 1 kg, 5 kg and 10 kg packs. A maker pouring 5,000 candles a month buys a hundred 10 kg packs at exactly the rate a maker buying one pays. CSI publishes no quantity ladder beyond what each product page prints.

What about the fragrance oil at 80 kg a month? Spicy Raspberry is ₹5.98/g in the 50g pack and ₹6.00/g in the 1kg. The largest pack is fractionally dearer per gram — ₹0.30 more on a 16 g dose, or ₹1,520.00 across 5,000 candles. Buy the big pack for the freight and the handling, not for the rate.

So where does scale actually help? Three places, in this order: test-batch amortisation falls from ₹7.96 to ₹0.16 a candle, inbound freight falls from ₹62.32 to ₹61.65, and wastage falls only if your process improves — each percentage point of wax and oil saved is worth ₹1.97 a candle.
The short answer
The materials do not move: ₹265.36 of wax, fragrance, vessel and wick at 100 a month and ₹265.36 at 5,000. Every one of those four rates is flat or fractionally worse in the largest pack.
The real fall is ₹8.47 a candle: From ₹341.57 to ₹333.10, of which ₹7.80 is spreading the same test batch over fifty times the units and ₹0.67 is inbound freight.
Freight stops falling at about 100 a month: The published weight bands end at 50 kg, so a larger month is more consignments at the same rate, not a cheaper one. Ask on WhatsApp for anything above the published bands.

What it shows: the full raw-material cost of one 200 g soy candle at 8% fragrance load, at three monthly volumes, drawn on one scale so the bars can be compared directly. The black materials block is identical in all three because every CSI rate involved is flat. The visible change is the pale test-batch sliver shrinking and a sliver of freight. Deliberately left out: labels, boxes, mailers, courier to your own customer, payment-gateway fees, advertising, labour, electricity and rent — none of these are CSI products and none is estimated anywhere on this page. Wastage of 3% and three test candles a month are stated assumptions, not measured data.
Straight answer
Which raw-material economies of scale are real between 100 and 5,000 candles a month?
Three of them, and they are smaller than almost every growth plan assumes. On live CSI pricing in September 2026, a 200 g soy candle at an 8% fragrance load costs ₹341.57 in raw materials, freight, wastage and test amortisation at 100 units a month, and ₹333.10 at 5,000 — a fall of ₹8.47, or 2.48%. The four material lines are identical at both volumes: Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 at ₹507.40/kg gives ₹101.48 of wax, Spicy Raspberry at the 1kg pack gives ₹95.98 of fragrance, a 200ml Salsa Amber Glass Jar is ₹62.00 a piece at every pack size, and an Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) is ₹5.90 at every pack size — ₹265.36 a candle, unchanged by volume, because none of those four ladders falls above its first rung and the fragrance is fractionally dearer in the largest pack. What does fall is test-batch amortisation, from ₹7.96 to ₹0.16 a candle on an assumed three test candles a month, which is ₹7.80 of the ₹8.47; inbound freight, from ₹62.32 to ₹61.65, because the published weight bands stop at 50 kg and a bigger month buys more consignments rather than a cheaper rate; and wastage, but only if your process improves, since every percentage point of wax and oil saved is ₹1.97 a candle and nothing about volume delivers it automatically. Plan on that. If your model needs a 20% raw-material saving at 5,000 a month to work, the saving has to come from a different recipe, a different vessel or a different fragrance load, not from the size of the order.
One line: ₹341.57 at 100 a month, ₹333.10 at 5,000 — the materials never move, and ₹7.80 of the ₹8.47 fall is just the test batch spread thinner.
The same rate at 100 a month and at 5,000. Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 10 kg at ₹5,074.00 is ₹507.40/kg, the same rate as the 1 kg pack. 200ml Salsa Amber Glass Jars are ₹62.00 a piece in the 5, 50 and 100 packs alike. Plan your growth on the rate you can see, not on one you hope to negotiate.

The candle this page costs, stated once

Fix the recipe first. A scale argument on a moving recipe proves nothing.

Everything below prices one specific candle, unchanged at all three volumes, so that any difference you see comes from scale and not from a quiet substitution. It is 200 g of wax at an 8% fragrance load. A load is a percentage of wax weight, which is how CSI product pages state it, so that is 16 g of oil and 216 g of fill in the vessel. That is the reading this page carries throughout.

The materials are Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 bought in 10 kg packs, Spicy Raspberry bought in 1kg packs, a 200ml Salsa Amber Glass Jar with 63mm Lug Cap priced per piece from the 100-piece pack, and an Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1). The vessel page publishes a 200 ml capacity and no fill weight in grams, so this page prices the vessel per piece and makes no claim about what weight of wax it takes — match your own pour to your own vessel before you use any of these figures.

One published limit applies to the load. Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 states a maximum fragrance load of 10% of total wax weight. The Spicy Raspberry page publishes no candle usage range, so the wax grade's stated maximum is the only published limit here, and the 8% this page uses sits inside it. If you want the oil's own range, ask on WhatsApp rather than assuming one.

The CSI principle
Volume buys you freight and amortisation. It does not buy you a rate.
₹265.36 of materials at 100 candles a month. ₹265.36 at 5,000. The ladders simply do not move.

The three material rates that do not move at all

Start with the bad news, because it is most of the answer.

A growth plan usually carries an assumption that raw materials get cheaper as orders get bigger. On the CSI catalogue that assumption is mostly wrong, and it is wrong in a way you can check in thirty seconds on each product page. CSI publishes no catalogue-wide quantity ladder. Some products fall at one step and then flatten; several are identical at every pack size; a few are fractionally dearer in the largest pack. The only safe approach is to read the ladder for the product you actually buy.

Rate ladders · the four lines in this candle

Line Smallest pack rate Largest pack rate Change Effect per candle
Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 ₹520.00/kg at 500 g ₹507.40/kg at 10 kg falls ₹12.60/kg once, at the 1 kg step saves ₹2.52 on 200 g
Spicy Raspberry ₹6.60/g at 15g ₹6.00/g at 1kg falls to ₹5.98/g at 50g, then edges back up costs ₹0.30 more on 16 g than the 50g rate
200ml Salsa Amber Glass Jar ₹62.00 each at 5 ₹62.00 each at 100 no change at any pack size no change
Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) ₹5.90 each at 20 ₹5.90 each at 1000 no change at any pack size no change
Priced above: Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 500 g ₹260.00 (₹520.00/kg) and 10 kg ₹5,074.00 (₹507.40/kg). Spicy Raspberry 15g ₹99.00 (₹6.60/g), 50g ₹299.00 (₹5.98/g), 100g ₹599.00 (₹5.99/g), 500g ₹2,999.00 (₹6.00/g), 1kg ₹5,999.00 (₹6.00/g). 200ml Salsa Amber Glass Jar Pack of 5 ₹310.00, Pack of 50 ₹3,100.00, Pack of 100 ₹6,200.00 — ₹62.00 a piece throughout. Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) 20 for ₹118.00 and 1000 for ₹5,900.00 — ₹5.90 a wick throughout. Live CSI pricing, September 2026.

The fragrance row deserves a second look because it runs the wrong way. Spicy Raspberry is ₹5.98/g in the 50g pack and ₹6.00/g in the 1kg. On a 16 g dose that is ₹0.30 more per candle in the big pack, and at 5,000 candles a month it is ₹1,520.00 a month. That is not a reason to buy eighty 50g packs — the handling and the freight would eat it several times over — but it is a reason to stop treating the biggest bottle as automatically the best buy, and to read the ladder on every oil you scale up.

Budgeting a 15% or 20% materials saving into the growth plan. It is the single most common error in a scale-up spreadsheet, and on these four lines the available saving is ₹2.52 a candle — the wax step from the 500 g pack to the 1 kg, which you have almost certainly already taken. Everything else on this page is freight and amortisation. Build the plan on ₹265.36 of materials at every volume and it will not surprise you at month nine.
Assuming a bigger order unlocks a rate that is not published. The three published order-value codes — HAPPY5 at 5% over ₹5,000.00, BIZWIZ8 at 8% over ₹12,000.00 and YAY10 at 10% over ₹20,000.00 — are discounts on what the basket is worth, not on how much of one thing you buy, and a month of materials at 100 candles is already ₹31,296.00. You pass the top band at 100 a month and you pass the same top band at 5,000: it is a level, not a slope. For anything larger than the published packs, ask on WhatsApp rather than building a number into a forecast.

Inbound freight: real, small, and it stops early

The published bands end at 50 kg. So does this economy of scale.

Freight is the one place where buying more genuinely costs less per candle, because CSI publishes flat rates by weight band and a band covers a range. The catch is that the bands stop. The heaviest published band covers up to 50 kg; above that there is no published rate, so a heavier consignment is a question for WhatsApp, not a figure this page can print. That ceiling is reached earlier than most makers expect.

Work it through on the wax. A 10 kg pack of Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 stores a packed weight of 11.0 kg — the parcel bills on the packed weight, not on the label. One pack is ₹1,200.00 on Standard Shipping at September 2026 rates, which over the 50 candles it pours is ₹24.00 a candle. Two packs together, 22.0 kg, fall in a band priced at ₹2,000.00 on Expedited Shipping — ₹20.00 a candle over 100 candles. Four packs, 44.0 kg, come to ₹4,000.00 on Expedited Shipping, which over 200 candles is ₹20.00 a candle again. Five packs weigh 55.0 kg and no published band covers them, so they are two consignments. The whole economy of scale in wax freight is ₹4.00 a candle and it is complete at 100 candles a month.

Inbound freight per candle · published bands, September 2026
What each line costs to get to your table, per candle
Line At 100 a month At 500 a month At 5,000 a month

Fragrance — 1.1 kg a pack ₹2.16 ₹1.60 ₹1.60
Vessels — 50.0 kg a pack of 100 ₹40.00 ₹40.00 ₹40.00
Wicks ₹0.16 ₹0.16 ₹0.05
Freight, one candle ₹62.32 ₹61.76 ₹61.65
Priced above: published flat rates by weight band, September 2026, computed on the stored packed weight of each variant. Wax — two 10 kg packs are 22.0 kg and the cheapest covering band is ₹2,000.00 on Expedited Shipping; at 500 a month the ten packs go as 44.0 kg, 44.0 kg and 22.0 kg for ₹10,000.00, and at 5,000 a month as twenty-five consignments of 44.0 kg for ₹1,00,000.00, all of which come to ₹20.00 a candle. Fragrance — two 1kg packs are 2.2 kg at ₹270.00 serving 125 candles; eight are 8.8 kg at ₹800.00 serving 500; eighty go as two consignments of 44.0 kg at ₹4,000.00 each, ₹8,000.00 serving 5,000. Vessels — one Pack of 100 stores 50.0 kg at ₹4,000.00, five packs ₹20,000.00 and fifty packs ₹2,00,000.00, which is ₹40.00 a candle at every volume. Wicks — a 500 pack is 0.2 kg at ₹80.00 serving 500 candles; five 1000 packs are 2.5 kg at ₹270.00 serving 5,000. Splitting a month into several consignments where no single band covers the weight is an assumption about how you would order, not a published bulk rate — for real volumes ask on WhatsApp.

Two things in that table are worth arguing with, honestly. The first is the vessel row. Glass is the heaviest thing you buy and it is already at the top of the published ladder in a single pack of one hundred, so vessel freight per candle is the same at 5,000 a month as at 100. If you want that number to fall, the lever is a lighter vessel or a local one, not a bigger order. The second is that the bands do not rise smoothly with weight — a consignment that is a shade over a band edge can cost more than a heavier one in the next band down. Check the weight you are actually shipping each time rather than generalising from a month that worked.

PACKED WEIGHT, NOT LABEL WEIGHT
Every freight figure on this page uses the weight the store stores against the variant, not the weight printed on the pack. A 10 kg wax pack ships at 11.0 kg and a 1kg oil pack ships at 1.1 kg, and both of those differences can push a consignment into the next band. Before you plan a consignment, add the stored weights, not the nominal ones.
The production month, priced. At 100 candles a month this candle needs two 10 kg packs of Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 at ₹5,074.00 each, two 1kg packs of Spicy Raspberry at ₹5,999.00, a Pack of 100 200ml Salsa Amber Glass Jars at ₹6,200.00 and a 500 pack of Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) at ₹2,950.00 — ₹31,296.00 of materials. GST invoicing, MSDS and IFRA documentation on request.

Test batches and wastage: the two that really do fall

One of these falls because of arithmetic. The other only falls because you made it.

Every production month burns some candles that never get sold. You pour a test candle when a new batch of wax arrives, when a fragrance lot changes, when a vessel changes. That cost is fixed per month and divided by the units you sell, so it falls exactly in proportion to volume — it is the purest economy of scale on the page, and the largest single component of the ₹8.47.

Assume three test candles a month — an assumption, not a measurement, and one you should replace with your own count. At ₹265.36 of materials each that is ₹796.08 a month. Divided over 100 candles it is ₹7.96 each. Over 500 it is ₹1.59. Over 5,000 it is ₹0.16. That single line accounts for ₹7.80 of the ₹8.47 this page finds between the smallest and largest volume, which is worth sitting with: the headline economy of scale in a candle business is not a cheaper kilogram of wax, it is the same three test candles spread over fifty times as many sales.

Wastage is different and it is where most of the honest upside lives. Wax left in the pitcher, an overpour, a jar that cracks, a batch that sets badly — this page assumes 3% of the wax and oil, which on ₹197.46 of scented wax is ₹5.92 a candle. That 3% is an assumption and not measured data. Critically, it does not fall because you got bigger. It falls because you weighed instead of estimating, because you bought a pouring jug that empties cleanly, because you stopped pouring at the end of a long day. Each percentage point you take off is worth ₹1.97 a candle — more than twice what the entire freight economy of scale delivers.

Wastage at an assumed 3% of the ₹197.46 of wax and fragrance in one candle, which is ₹5.92; one percentage point is ₹1.97. Test amortisation at an assumed three test candles a month, ₹796.08 of materials, divided by 100, 500 and 5,000 units. The 3% wastage rate and the three-candle test count are assumptions stated as such, not measured data and not published by CSI.

Run the ledger on your own recipe

Four steps, and the third is the one that changes what you believe.
1
1. Fix the candle and price the four lines at the pack you actually buyWax grams, oil grams at your load, one vessel, one wick. Convert every pack price into a rate — per kilogram for wax, per gram for oil, per piece for vessel and wick — and multiply. On this page that is ₹101.48, ₹95.98, ₹62.00 and ₹5.90, giving ₹265.36. Do it once and reuse it, because this number will not change with volume.
2
2. Write the ladder down for each line and mark where it stops fallingOpen each product page and list every pack size with its rate. Mark the rung where the rate stops improving. On Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 that rung is the 1 kg pack; on 200ml Salsa Amber Glass Jars and Eco Candle Wicks there is no falling rung at all. Anything you are already buying at or above that rung is a line where growth will deliver nothing, and you should stop modelling a saving on it.
3
3. Price the freight on stored packed weights at three volumesTake the number of packs each month needs, multiply by the stored weight, and look up the cheapest published band. Where the weight exceeds the heaviest published band, split it into consignments that each fit and add the rates. Note the volume at which your freight per candle stops improving — on this candle it is about 100 units a month for the wax and immediately for the vessels, which is much earlier than most plans assume.
4
4. Add your fixed monthly costs and divide by unitsTest candles, and then the costs CSI does not sell — labels, boxes, mailers, courier to your own customer, payment-gateway fees, advertising, labour, electricity, rent. Each gets its own row as a blank you fill in from your own records; none of them is a CSI cost and none is guessed at here. Those blanks are where the real scale economies in a candle business live, because most of them are fixed monthly amounts divided by a number that is getting fifty times bigger.
WHERE THE REAL SCALE SAVING IS
If you need a serious reduction in cost per candle at 5,000 units a month, the raw-material lines will not give it to you. The levers that will are recipe ones: a lighter pour, a lighter vessel, a load at the bottom of the published range rather than the top, or a fragrance with a lower rate per gram. Each of those is a product decision with a quality consequence, and each is worth more per candle than the entire freight and amortisation ledger on this page.

Three things that bite at 5,000 a month in India

The ledger is national. The constraints are local.

Heat changes what a bigger inventory means. Holding a month of wax at 5,000 candles is a tonne of soy in whatever room you have. Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 states a shelf life of 60 months in cool, dry storage and says to keep it away from sunlight and moisture, and in a Delhi, Ahmedabad or Nagpur summer the "cool" part is not free. Storage that keeps stock in condition is a real cost of scale that pushes the other way, and it is yours to price, not CSI's.

Monsoon and the vessel line. Glass is fine; cartons and cotton are not. Bulk vessel stock held through a Mumbai or Kochi monsoon needs to stay off the floor and sealed, and wicks need to stay dry. General candle-making practice is to keep wicks in a closed container rather than an open shelf, which matters more the bigger the box you buy.

The festive spike is not a scale economy. Diwali 2026 falls on 8 November 2026, and for a 14–21 day cure plus delivery a festive batch needs pouring by about mid-October. A maker who goes from 500 to 5,000 units for one season gets the amortisation benefit for that season only, and takes on the inventory risk of whatever does not sell. The per-candle figures on this page assume steady monthly production. If your 5,000 is a six-week spike rather than a run rate, model it as a spike.

Quoting a wholesale price on a scale saving that does not exist. This is the expensive version of the mistake. A maker committing to a large repeat order at a price built on an assumed 15% materials saving is committing to a margin that arrives only if the supplier ladder moves, and on these four lines it does not. Price the order on ₹333.10, not on ₹265.36 minus a hoped-for discount, and ask CSI for a quote on WhatsApp before you commit to a number in writing.

One closing note against CSI's own interest, because it is the honest conclusion of the arithmetic. Nothing on this page gives you a reason to place a larger order than your production needs. The wax rate is the same at 1 kg as at 10 kg, the vessel and wick rates are the same at every pack, the fragrance is fractionally dearer in the largest bottle, and inbound freight per candle stops improving at around a hundred candles a month. Buy the pack that matches your pouring and your storage, take the freight consolidation where a single consignment fits inside a published band, and put the effort you were going to spend negotiating rates into wastage and test discipline instead — that is where the rupees actually are.

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA sells wax, fragrance oil, vessels and wicks, and the arithmetic on this page says plainly that buying more of them does not make them cheaper. Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 is ₹507.40/kg in the 1 kg, 5 kg and 10 kg packs alike. 200ml Salsa Amber Glass Jars are ₹62.00 a piece in the Pack of 5, the Pack of 50 and the Pack of 100. Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) are ₹5.90 each at every pack size. Spicy Raspberry is ₹5.98/g in the 50g pack and ₹6.00/g in the 1kg, so the largest pack is fractionally dearer per gram. The total materials saving available to a maker going from 100 to 5,000 candles a month, on these four lines, is ₹2.52 a candle, and most makers have already taken it.

Every CSI price on this page is live stock in September 2026, taxes included, and the linked product pages are authoritative if anything changes. Fragrance load is a percentage of wax weight, as CSI product pages state it: Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 states a maximum of 10% of total wax weight, and because the Spicy Raspberry page publishes no candle usage range, the wax grade's stated maximum is the only published limit on this pairing. The 200ml Salsa Amber Glass Jar page states a 200 ml capacity and publishes no fill weight, so this page prices it per piece and makes no claim about what weight of candle it holds. Shipping figures are published flat rates by weight band as at September 2026, computed on stored packed weights; the published bands stop at 50 kg, and where a month exceeds that this page prices it as several consignments, which is an assumption about ordering and not a published bulk rate. Wastage of 3% and three test candles a month are stated assumptions, not measured data. Labels, boxes, mailers, courier to your own customer, payment-gateway and marketplace fees, advertising, labour, electricity and rent are not CSI products, are not in any figure here, and are not estimated.

Frequently asked questions

What is a realistic raw-material saving to budget at 5,000 units a month?
On this candle and these live CSI rates, ₹8.47 a candle against 100 units a month, which is 2.48% of ₹341.57. Nearly all of it is test amortisation. If your plan needs more than that, it has to come from the recipe — pour weight, load, vessel or fragrance choice — not from order size.
Does CSI give a lower rate per kilogram for a 1,000 kg month?
The published packs stop at 10 kg for Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464, and the rate is ₹507.40/kg at 1 kg, 5 kg and 10 kg alike. CSI publishes no quantity ladder beyond what each product page prints. For a consignment larger than the published packs, ask on WhatsApp — this page does not assume a rate that is not published.
Why does the vessel freight not fall at all?
Because a Pack of 100 200ml Salsa Amber Glass Jars stores 50.0 kg, which already sits in the heaviest published weight band, and there is no published band above it. Ordering five packs is five consignments at the same rate, so vessel freight stays ₹40.00 a candle at every volume. A lighter vessel changes that number; a bigger order does not.
Is the 3% wastage figure something CSI publishes?
No. It is an assumption used to make the ledger complete, stated as an assumption every time it appears, and you should replace it with your own measured figure. What is worth knowing is the sensitivity: one percentage point of the ₹197.46 of wax and fragrance in this candle is ₹1.97, which is nearly three times the entire freight saving available between 100 and 5,000 units a month.
Should I use the 1kg fragrance pack or several smaller ones at scale?
On Spicy Raspberry in September 2026 the 50g pack is marginally the cheapest per gram at ₹5.98/g against ₹6.00/g for the 1kg, a difference of ₹0.30 on a 16 g dose. Buying eighty kilograms in 50g bottles would cost far more in freight and handling than it saves, so take the 1kg pack — but take it knowing the rate is not the reason. Other oils have very different ladders, so check the one you pour.
Where do labels, boxes and courier to my customer fit into these figures?
Nowhere, deliberately. CSI does not sell them and does not publish a price for them, so every one of them is a blank row you fill in from your own invoices. They are also, honestly, where most of your real scale economies will come from, because several are fixed monthly amounts spread across fifty times the units. Total your sheet as materials from CSI plus your own costs, and keep the two apart.

About this guide: Written by the CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA team. The method — fix one recipe, price its lines at the pack you really buy, mark the rung where each rate stops falling, price inbound freight on stored packed weights inside published bands, and then divide your fixed monthly costs by units — works with any supplier, any material and any currency. It is the ordinary way a manufacturer separates a genuine economy of scale from a hoped-for one.
