I Want to Make 60 × 300 g Luxury Candles — How Much Wax Should I Buy When My Finished Fill Weight Includes Both Wax and Fragrance Oil?
Aktie
Wax for 60 candles? 16.56 kg net; 19.72 kg with six test candles, 3% rejects and 5% pour loss — 2 × 10 kg of Natural Soy Pearl (₹8,496.00).
Oil? 1,440 g net; 1,714.6 g with allowances — 3 × 500 g + 2 × 100 g + 1 × 15 g of Saffron Cedarwood (₹9,248.84).
Will my 300 ml jar hold a 300 g candle? No — about 258 g–270 g to the brim at an approximate 0.86–0.90 g/ml. Weigh a test pour and set W from it.
Your 300 g already includes the oil
A luxury candle sold as "300 g" is a 300 g finished candle: wax and fragrance together, as the customer weighs it. CSI writes fragrance load as a share of that finished weight, so the split is one multiplication: at an 8% working load, oil = 300 × 0.08 = 24 g and wax = 300 × 0.92 = 276 g. The wax per candle is not 300 g, and the order is not 60 × 300 g of wax. It is 60 × 276 g = 16,560 g of wax and 60 × 24 g = 1,440 g of oil, before any allowance.
| Load | Oil per candle | Wax per candle | Oil for 60 | Wax for 60 | Wax if you wrongly ordered 300 g each |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 6% | 18 g | 282 g | 1,080 g | 16,920 g | 18,000 g (+1,080 g) |
| 8% | 24 g | 276 g | 1,440 g | 16,560 g | 18,000 g (+1,440 g) |
| 10% | 30 g | 270 g | 1,800 g | 16,200 g | 18,000 g (+1,800 g) |
| 12% | 36 g | 264 g | 2,160 g | 15,840 g | 18,000 g (+2,160 g) |
The right-hand column is the mistake in one line: ordering 300 g of wax per candle over-buys exactly the oil weight, every time — 1,440 g at 8%, 1,800 g at 10%. Worse, if you pour it as written, each candle becomes 324 g and either overfills the jar or sits above the line you designed. The fix is not a smaller allowance; it is splitting W before anything else. The wax-weight-per-candle post shows the same split for a 200 g jar, and the oud post shows the overfill it prevents at 10%.
Which 300 g? Candle weight versus jar capacity
There is a second "300 g" that causes trouble: a jar described as "300 g" or "300 ml". That is usually the jar's capacity to the brim, measured with water. Solid soy wax is lighter than water; at a labelled approximate 0.86–0.90 g per ml, a jar that holds 300 ml of water holds only about 258 g–270 g of candle filled right to the brim — and a candle is never filled to the brim. A 300 g candle will not fit in it. CSI does not list a jar with a published fill at this size, so the jar here is yours, and its real fill is something only a weighed test pour can tell you.
| What the jar says | What it usually measures | Candle it holds to the brim (approx.) | What to do |
|---|---|---|---|
| 300 ml | Brim volume | 258 g–270 g | Weigh a test pour; choose W below the brim |
| 300 g (water) | Brim capacity in water | 258 g–270 g | Same — it is still a water figure |
| 300 g candle | Finished candle weight | 300 g to your fill line | Use as W; split into wax and oil |
| Not stated | — | — | Weigh empty, fill with wax to your line, weigh again |
The order for 60 candles
With W fixed at 300 g and an 8% working load, the stack is: six test candles (three on a single Eco Thick C2, three on two Eco Thin C1 — a 300 g candle in a wide jar may need two wicks, and CSI publishes no wick-per-diameter chart), a 3% reject allowance on wax, oil, wicks and stickers, and 5% pour loss on wax and oil. Jars are your own, so breakage appears only as a count (68 jars for 66 candles at 2%).
| Line | Net | With allowances | CSI packs | Price | Left over |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Natural Soy Pearl Wax | 16,560 g | 19,718.4 g | 2 × 10 kg | ₹8,496.00 | 282 g |
| Saffron Cedarwood Fragrance Oil | 1,440 g | 1,714.6 g | 3 × 500 g + 2 × 100 g + 1 × 15 g | ₹9,248.84 | 0.36 g |

| Wick stickers | 1 per wick | — | 2 × sheet of 40 / 4 × sheet of 40 | ₹200.00 / ₹400.00 | |
| Your 300 g jars | 60 | 68 | Your supplier | Your quote | Not in CSI subtotal |
| CSI subtotal (single wick wins) | ₹18,723.64 | ||||
| CSI subtotal (double wick wins) | ₹19,006.24 |
That is ₹312.06 of CSI materials per saleable candle with a single wick, before the jar. A double wick doubles the wick and sticker lines but leaves wax and oil untouched — the candle is still 300 g at 8%. Natural Soy Pearl is used because the wax line is large (nearly 20 kg) and it is the only CSI soy wax with a real bulk break: ₹450.00 a kilo at 1 kg, ₹424.80 from 5 kg. Its page publishes no fragrance ceiling, melt point or pour temperature, so 8% is a labelled starting point — ask CSI on WhatsApp for the wax maker's stated maximum before planning 10% or more.
| Wax | Published ceiling | Packs | Price | Per candle at the rate paid |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Natural Soy Pearl Wax | None published | 2 × 10 kg | ₹8,496.00 | ₹117.24 |

Saffron Cedarwood: where the 500 g bottle wins
Saffron Cedarwood Fragrance Oil is a reasonable luxury example because its price ladder is unusual. Per gram it is ₹6.92 at 15 g, ₹7.08 at 50 g, ₹6.96 at 100 g, ₹5.17 at 500 g and ₹6.87 at 1 kg. The 500 g bottle is the cheapest per gram on the listing — cheaper than the kilo — so the order is built from 500 g bottles, with the remainder from small bottles. CSI publishes no throw data, composition or IFRA percentage for it here; check the product page or ask for the IFRA certificate on WhatsApp.
| Option | Bottles | Grams | Price | Left over | Leftover worth |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cheapest cover | 3 × 500 g + 2 × 100 g + 1 × 15 g | 1,715 g | ₹9,248.84 | 0.36 g | ₹1.95 |
| Four 500 g bottles | 4 × 500 g | 2,000 g | ₹10,336.80 | 285.4 g | ₹1,474.86 |
| Two 1 kg bottles | 2 × 1 kg | 2,000 g | ₹13,735.20 | 285.4 g | ₹1,959.74 |
The cheapest cover lands within a gram of the need, which is tight: it assumes your pour loss really is 5% and your rejects 3%. If either runs high, the last candle is short. Four 500 g bottles cost ₹1,087.96 more and leave 285 g — about 12 candles' worth — as a cushion or the start of the next run. Two 1 kg bottles are the worst of both: dearer per gram and ₹3,398.40 more than four 500 g for the same 2 kg.
What makes it luxury is not the wax maths
A luxury candle usually means a heavier jar, a lid, a box and a higher load or a more complex fragrance — none of which changes the rule on this page. Every one of those choices changes W, L or the jar, and the order follows from them. What does change is the cost of a mistake: a 300 g candle in a premium jar is the most expensive candle to remake, so the test candles and the reject allowance earn their place. Keep the luxury lines — jar, lid, box, label — as your own quotes outside the CSI subtotal so you can see exactly what the candle costs to fill.

Non-price figures and assumptions: BOM convention used on every page in this series: load is a share of the finished candle (oil = W × L; wax = W × (1 − L)). Allowances are applied in one order — whole test candles, then a reject allowance (÷ (1 − reject rate)) on wax, oil, wicks and stickers, then pour loss on wax and oil only, then breakage on glass only, then rounding up to listed in-stock CSI packs. A rejected candle is assumed to be remade with new wax, oil, wick and sticker in a cleaned jar; a jar that cannot be reused counts as breakage. Working figures on this page: 8% load (the title gives none; 10% shown), 6 test candles (single Thick C2 vs two Thin C1, 3 each), 3% rejects, 5% pour loss, 2% breakage (count only — jars are the reader's). Saffron Cedarwood is cheaper per gram at 500 g than at 1 kg on the 24 September pull. Optional CSI tissue: Premium Packing Tissue Paper ₹650.00 / 100 sheets. Volume is not weight: a jar's ml figure is its brim volume. Solid soy wax is lighter than water; ~0.86–0.90 g per ml is a labelled approximate working range that varies by wax, temperature and fill line, never a CSI specification. What CSI's product pages state (quoted, not CSI test results): Luxury Soy Wax Chunks — maximum fragrance load 13%, fragrance addition 80–90°C, pour 75–80°C in the spec table (the step list also shows 70–80°C), cure minimum 48 hours, ideally 1–2 weeks; Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 — fragrance load up to 10%, an 80–90°C melt/pour working range in the spec table, shelf life 60 months cool and dry; Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 — melting point 50–53°C, pour 58–60°C, fragrance load up to 13%, shelf life 60 months cool and dry; Natural Soy Pearl — no melt point, pour temperature, fragrance ceiling or shelf life published. CSI publishes no throw, burn-test, wick-size-per-diameter or jar-diameter data; only two fills are published (Golden Aluminium Tin 85 g, Heart Cutout Velvet Jar 50 g wax capacity). Material costs exclude labour, packaging, freight and GST. Diwali 2026 falls on Sunday 8 November.
