Hot throw is load, wax, pool and oil meeting in one candle. Put the variables that change your production order into the first purchase, fix the ones that do not, and defer the second oil until the load is known.
₹10,920.40
a staged 28-candle vanilla kit · against ₹26,959.60 for every combination · CSI live pricing, October 2026
Quick answers — read this first
Which variables go in the first purchase? Load, wax and wick — 8/10/12% in Chunks and CSI 468 (both 13% on their pages), Eco Thin C1 and Thick C2 — with one oil, Vanilla Bean. Jar and colour are fixed; the second oil is deferred.

How many candles? 28: an 8-candle wick screen at 10%, an 18-candle load ladder with the winning wick, and 2 shelf candles. Every combination would be 72.

What does it cost? ₹10,920.40 in CSI materials, of which Vanilla Bean is ₹4,740.00. Every combination would cost ₹26,959.60.

Why not start at 12%? Each point of load is 2 g of Vanilla Bean, ₹15.29 a candle. On a 60-candle run, 12% costs ₹3,791.00 more than 8%. Find the lowest load that clears your floor.
The short answer
Answer: Include load (8/10/12%), wax (Chunks, CSI 468) and wick (Eco Thin C1, Thick C2) with one oil, Vanilla Bean; fix the White Matte jar and undyed wax; defer Dark Vanilla and Cinnamon Vanilla. 28 candles, ₹10,920.40.
Why: Only variables whose answer changes the production order belong in purchase 1. Load changes the oil line most; a second oil changes only itself and can be bought in exact grams later.
Method: Wick screen at 10% → load ladder with the winning wick → blind throw at equal cure → lowest load that clears your floor → second-oil comparison → production order. The hub method.
Which variables go into the first vanilla purchase 200 g strong-hot-throw candle · 28 candles staged, instead of 72 for every combination Variable Levels In this kit IN NOW FIXED LATER Wax 2 Chunks · CSI 468 (both 13% on page) Fragrance load 3 8% · 10% · 12% Wick 2 Eco Thin C1 · Eco Thick C2 Fragrance oil 1 Vanilla Bean now · others later Jar 1 White Matte Glass Jar Colour 0 Undyed Cure age — 48 h · 7 d · 14 d checkpoints Second vanilla oil — Dark Vanilla · Cinnamon Vanilla Lid, label, box — Your suppliers Every combination: 2 oils × 2 waxes × 3 loads × 2 wicks × 3 candles = 72 candles, ₹26,959.60. Staged: wick screen, then load ladder with the winning wick = 28 candles, ₹10,920.40. Second oils wait.
The variable register as a purchase decision. Filled dots go into the first purchase (load, wax, wick, one oil); grey dots are fixed for the whole test (jar, colour, cure schedule); open dots wait for a later, exactly sized purchase. Staging the kit cuts it from 72 candles to 28.
Straight answer
I want to make a 200 g vanilla soy candle with a strong hot throw — which wax, fragrance, wick and jar variables should be included in my first purchase?
Include fragrance load, wax and wick; hold the jar and colour fixed; test one vanilla oil now and defer the second. Load is the most direct throw lever, so buy an 8/10/12% ladder. Use two waxes whose pages state a 13% ceiling — Chunks and CSI 468 — so 12% sits inside both. Screen two wicks, Eco Thin C1 and Eco Thick C2, because no wick-per-diameter chart is published. Fix the White Matte jar (fill not published — weigh a test pour) and leave the wax undyed. Stage it: wick screen at 10%, then the load ladder with the winning wick — 28 candles, ₹10,920.40 with Vanilla Bean, against 72 candles and ₹26,959.60 for every combination. Dark Vanilla and Cinnamon Vanilla are bought afterwards in the exact grams the winning load needs.
One line: include a variable in the first purchase only if its answer changes what you buy next.
The first vanilla purchase on this page — 28 test candles in two 13%-ceiling waxes, an 8/10/12% load ladder and two wick candidates, all with Vanilla Bean — costs ₹10,920.40 in CSI materials. The oil is the biggest line: Vanilla Bean Fragrance Oil at ₹130.00 for 15 g, ₹790.00 for 100 g.
Buy Vanilla Bean Fragrance Oil

Four variables decide hot throw. Only some belong in the first purchase

"Strong hot throw" is not an ingredient. It is the result of four choices meeting in a melt pool.

When a maker says they want a vanilla candle with a strong hot throw, the instinct is to buy the strongest-sounding oil and the highest load the wax allows. But hot throw in general candle-making practice comes from four things together: how much oil is in the wax (the load), which wax is holding it and how readily that wax releases it, how wide and warm the melt pool gets (mostly the wick, in a given jar), and the oil itself. Cure age and room size change what you smell, too, but they are conditions of the test, not things you buy.

Every one of those can be bought in several versions, and every version multiplies the number of test candles. The question in the title is therefore the right one: not "what is the best vanilla setup" — CSI publishes no throw data for any oil or wax, so nobody can tell you that from a data sheet — but which variables are worth testing now, which should be fixed, and which should wait for a second, smaller purchase.

Variable register · decide each line before ordering · CSI's product-page statements quoted as written
The vanilla variable register
Variable Decision for purchase 1 Levels in the kit Why
Fragrance load Include 8% · 10% · 12% Load is the most direct throw lever; both kit waxes publish a 13% ceiling, so 12% sits inside both
Wax Include Chunks · CSI 468 The only CSI container soy waxes whose pages state 13%; CSI 464 stops at 10%, which would cut the ladder
Wick Include Eco Thin C1 · Eco Thick C2 Pool width drives throw; no wick-per-diameter chart is published
Fragrance oil Include one Vanilla Bean One oil keeps the ladder readable; a second oil doubles the kit
Jar Fix White Matte Glass Jar Changing the jar changes the pool and the wick; fill not published — weigh a test pour
Colour Fix (undyed) — Dye is another variable; the pastel-pink post tests it
Cure age Fix as a schedule 48 h · 7 days · 14 days Labelled checkpoints; compare at equal age
Second vanilla oil Defer Dark Vanilla · Cinnamon Vanilla Bought after the load is known, in the exact grams it needs
Lid, label, box Defer — Not CSI items; priced as examples
The CSI principle
Include a variable in the first purchase only if its answer changes what you buy next.
Load, wax and wick all change the production order. The second oil changes only one line of it — so it can wait for a purchase sized to the load that passed.

Why the kit is staged, not every combination

Put every option in at once — two vanilla oils, two waxes, three loads, two wicks, three candles each — and the kit is 72 candles costing ₹26,959.60. It would answer every question at once, but most of its candles test combinations nobody would make: a wick that fails at 10% is not going to pass at 12%, and a second oil tested at a load that failed teaches nothing.

The staged kit runs in two pours. Stage 1 screens the two wicks at the middle load, 10%, in both waxes — 8 candles, two per wax–wick pair. Stage 2 takes the winning wick in each wax and pours the full 8/10/12% ladder, three candles per step — 18 candles. One shelf candle per wax at 12% (the load most likely to show sweating or discolouration in storage) brings it to 28. The second oil is a third, deferred stage.

Total 28 568 g in all 2,516 g per wax
The shortcut: "start at 12% — vanilla needs it." Starting at the top of the ladder means you never learn whether 8% or 10% would have done. In a 200 g candle every point of load is 2 g of Vanilla Bean, ₹15.29 at its 1 kg rate, so 12% instead of 8% adds ₹61.17 to every candle for ever. Fix: buy the ladder. If 8% passes your throw floor, the kit has paid for itself in the first production run.

CSI kit subtotal ₹10,920.40

The oil line is ₹4,740.00 of the ₹10,920.40 — more than half. Vanilla Bean is one of the dearer oils near the top of CSI's best-selling sort: ₹7.90 a gram at 100 g, ₹7.68 at 500 g and ₹7.65 at 1 kg. Development kits on this series are built from 15 g, 50 g and 100 g packs, so the kit buys 6 × 100 g. If you have already decided Vanilla Bean is your oil whatever happens, buying 1 × 500 g + 1 × 100 g instead costs ₹4,630.00, which is ₹110.00 less — and the rest of the 500 g carries into production. That is a legitimate choice; it is simply a bet on the oil before the test.

Two wax details. Chunks are cheapest as six 500 g bags (₹299.00 each), a rupee a kilo less than 1 kg bags; CSI 468 costs the same either way (₹1,950.00 for 3 kg as three 1 kg or six 500 g bags). And the stage-2 wicks are not a separate line: 20 wicks come from the leftover of the stage-1 winner. If Eco Thin C1 wins, its 20-pack has 16 left and you top up with 1 × 20-pack (₹118.00); if Thick C2 wins, it has 6 left and you top up with 1 × 20-pack (₹188.80). The Thin 10-pack is out of stock on the 4 October re-check.

Why CSI 464 is not in this kit
Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464's page states fragrance up to 10%. A 12% step is outside it, so a three-step ladder would have to stop at 10% in that wax. If your stage-2 result says 8% or 10% is enough, CSI 464 becomes a fair candidate for a follow-up comparison at that load — the lavender hub runs exactly that pair.

Testing for hot throw without fooling yourself

Hot throw is the easiest result in candle-making to imagine and the hardest to measure.

Because CSI publishes no throw measurements for any oil or wax, the kit's job is to produce a decision you would make again on a different day. That means blind scoring, a fixed room, equal cure age and safety lines checked before throw is even looked at. These are labelled working practices; the oud large-room post adds distance stations for a big room.

1
Pour stage 1, cure to 7 daysEight candles at 10%, each wax handled to its own page: CSI's Chunks page states oil addition at 80–90°C and pour at 75–80°C in its spec table; the CSI 468 page states pour at 58–60°C and a melting point of 50–53°C.
2
Burn for the pool, not the noseTwo 3–4 hour cycles. Record time to full melt pool, pool depth, flame height, soot and mushrooming, jar-side reading. A wick that runs hotter or sootier than the other is out; throw is not scored yet.
3
Pour stage 2 with the winning wickThree candles per load per wax (18 in all) plus one shelf candle per wax at 12%. Same oil lot, same day, numbered bases.
4
Score throw blind at equal cureAt 7 and 14 days (labelled checkpoints), someone who does not know which candle is which scores each 0–5 from a fixed spot after a fixed time, with doors and fans as they will be at home. Rotate order between sessions.
5
Find the lowest load that clears your floorWrite your throw floor before the first burn — for example "clearly noticeable from 3 metres after 1 hour". The answer is the lowest load, in each wax, that clears it on every candle, not the highest score.
6
Watch the shelf candlesThe two 12% shelf candles show whether the top load sweats or changes colour in your storage. Vanilla-type fragrances are commonly described as able to discolour wax over time; CSI publishes no discolouration data for any oil, so this candle is how you find out for yours.

Safety is never traded for throw. CSI publishes no numeric flame-height or jar-temperature limits; the line is "no worse than the other candles, within your jar supplier's guidance and the recognised candle fire-safety standard you work to" (ASTM F2417 is a commonly cited US standard). If the only candle that clears your throw floor is the one with the bigger flame, the answer is a different wick or wax, not that candle.

The deferred purchase: a second vanilla, sized to the load that passed

Once stage 2 tells you the load, the second-oil comparison is small and exact. Three candles each of Dark Vanilla and Cinnamon Vanilla, poured beside three fresh Vanilla Bean candles in the winning wax and wick. Dark Vanilla is priced identically to Vanilla Bean (₹790.00 per 100 g); Cinnamon Vanilla is ₹483.80 per 100 g and ₹4.55 a gram at 1 kg, so if it passed your sheet it would save ₹61.82 a candle at 10%. That is a reason to test it, not a claim that it throws the same — CSI publishes no throw data for either.

Purchase 2 · 3 candles per oil with 5% allowance · smallest in-stock packs ≤ 100 g · CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026, stock re-checked 4 October 2026
What the second-oil comparison costs at each possible load

8% 50.4 g 4 × 15 g · ₹520.00 1 × 50 g + 1 × 15 g · ₹377.60 ₹897.60
10% 63.0 g 1 × 50 g + 1 × 15 g · ₹540.00 1 × 50 g + 1 × 15 g · ₹377.60 ₹917.60
12% 75.6 g 1 × 50 g + 2 × 15 g · ₹670.00 1 × 100 g · ₹483.80 ₹1,153.80

Buying those oils in purchase 1 would have meant guessing the grams. At 8% a 50 g pack covers three candles with a little to spare; at 12% it does not. Deferring costs a week of cure time; guessing costs oil sitting on a shelf. Wax and jars for purchase 2 come from the kit's leftovers.

How the load you pick changes the production order

The kit's one most expensive answer is a single number: the load.

The table below writes the production list three times for a labelled example run of 60 candles in Luxury Soy Wax Chunks with Eco Thick C2 as the example winning wick — once for each load the ladder could return. The allowance stack is the series order: 2 QC candles, ÷ (1 − 3%) for rejects, + 4% pour loss on wax and oil only, + 2% breakage on glass only, then rounding to real CSI packs. All four allowances are labelled assumptions.

From 8% to 12% the wax line falls slightly (₹7,487.00 → ₹7,188.00) and the oil line rises by ₹4,090.00. The run costs ₹3,791.00 more at 12% than at 8%. That is why load sits in the first purchase and the second oil does not. Note the oil rounding: at 8% the need of 1,063.6 g just overshoots 1 kg, so the cheapest cover is 1 × 1 kg + 1 × 50 g + 1 × 15 g; the 1.3 kg post works through that kind of overshoot.

Argued against our own interest, plainly. The most profitable answer for a fragrance seller is 12%: it sells half as much oil again as 8%. We will not tell you vanilla needs it, because we publish no throw data for Vanilla Bean or any other oil. If your blind sheet says 8% clears your floor, buy at 8% and keep the ₹3,791.00 on this run. And the wax: Chunks and CSI 468 differ by ₹6.84 a candle at 10% — buy whichever your sheet prefers; neither is the "throw wax" on paper.

Diwali falls on Sunday 8 November 2026. Vanilla is a festive gifting staple, and a two-stage kit needs two cure windows. Pour stage 1 this week and the load ladder can be decided with time for a production run. Send us your jar, wick and target volume on WhatsApp and we will price both purchases and the production order; larger quantities are quoted on WhatsApp and no discount figure is published.

If you already know your load and only need the quantities, the 50 × 200 g vanilla at 8% calculator and the 10%-versus-8% oil comparison are the shorter route. If vanilla is one of several fragrances in a launch, the five-fragrance collection post shares the wax and jar across all of them, and the three-size plan carries the same formula into 50 g and 500 g candles. The brief → kit → production-list method behind this page is in the lavender hub and, for any product, the complete-BOM post.

Buy the load ladder before you buy the load. It is the one result that changes every production order after it.

Making a coffee or oud candle instead? The register is the same, but the oils are not: the café coffee kit tests three coffee oils with different smallest packs, and the oud large-room post tests throw at distance. Questions on WhatsApp.
Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials, not finished candles. The highest-load answer sells the most fragrance. This page tells you to test 8% first, to defer a second oil, and that neither of our 13%-ceiling waxes is a throw wax on paper — because we publish no throw data that would justify saying otherwise.

Wax prices are CSI live pricing, re-checked 1 October 2026. Oil prices are CSI live pricing, pulled 24 September 2026, stock re-checked 4 October 2026. Wick and jar prices are re-checked 4 October 2026. Candle splits, pack rounding, kit totals, production orders and per-candle costs are arithmetic shown to two decimals.

The 8/10/12% ladder, two and three candles per cell, burn cycles, cure checkpoints, scoring weights, the 5% and 4% pour-loss allowances, 3% rejects, 2% breakage and the 60-candle run are labelled working assumptions. Lid and label figures are examples, not CSI prices. For help, bulk quotes, GST invoicing, MSDS or IFRA documentation, message us on WhatsApp at +91 7397976926.

Frequently asked questions

What fragrance load for a strong vanilla soy candle?
No published figure can tell you for your jar and wick; CSI publishes no dosage data for any oil. Test 8%, 10% and 12% in a wax whose page states a 13% ceiling (Chunks, CSI 468) and use the lowest load that clears your blind throw floor.
Which soy wax is best for vanilla hot throw?
CSI publishes no throw data for its waxes, so none is "best" on paper. For a ladder up to 12% use waxes whose pages state 13%: Luxury Soy Wax Chunks and CSI 468. CSI 464's page states 10%.
How many test candles for a new candle fragrance?
A staged kit needs far fewer than every combination: here 28 (wick screen, load ladder, shelf) against 72. Three candles per variant is a commonly used working minimum for a decision you act on.
Does vanilla fragrance oil discolour soy wax?
Vanilla-type fragrances are commonly described as able to discolour wax over time, but CSI publishes no discolouration data for any oil. Keep a shelf candle at your top load in your warmest storage spot and check it at each cure checkpoint.
Should I buy 500 g of vanilla oil for testing?
Only if you have already decided on the oil. For this kit, 1 × 500 g + 1 × 100 g of Vanilla Bean costs ₹4,630.00 against ₹4,740.00 in 100 g packs — cheaper, but a bet on the oil before the test.
What is the difference between Vanilla Bean and Dark Vanilla fragrance oil?
On price, none: both are ₹130.00 for 15 g, ₹790.00 for 100 g and ₹7,646.00 for 1 kg. CSI publishes no composition or throw data for either, which is why the second oil is a deferred side-by-side test.

Non-price figures and assumptions: CSI convention: fragrance load is a share of the finished candle weight (200 g at 8% = 16 g oil + 184 g wax; 10% = 20 g + 180 g; 12% = 24 g + 176 g). What CSI's product pages state (quoted, not CSI test results): Luxury Soy Wax Chunks — maximum fragrance load 13%, fragrance addition 80–90°C, pour 75–80°C in the spec table (the step list also shows 70–80°C), cure minimum 48 hours, ideally 1–2 weeks; Luxury Soy Wax CSI 464 — fragrance load up to 10%, an 80–90°C melt/pour working range in the spec table, shelf life 60 months cool and dry; Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 — melting point 50–53°C, pour 58–60°C, fragrance load up to 13%, shelf life 60 months cool and dry; Natural Soy Pearl — no melt point, pour temperature, fragrance ceiling or shelf life published. The White Matte Glass Jar's fill weight is not published. Kit design, burn cycles, cure checkpoints, scoring weights, the 5% (kit) and 4% (production) pour-loss allowances, 3% rejects, 2% breakage and the 60-candle run are labelled working assumptions; lid and label figures are examples. CSI publishes no throw, dosage, discolouration or wick-per-diameter data and no numeric safety limits; ASTM F2417 is named only as a commonly cited standard. Material costs exclude labour, packaging, freight and GST. Diwali 2026 falls on 8 November.
