Two darkening oils will not stay white by technique alone. Reduce the darkening sources, test the wax, then design the look around what you see.
1 oil
Dark Vanilla's caramel-and-cream heart may replace a separate caramel oil
Quick answers — read this first
Does CSI sell a caramel fragrance oil? No. Caramel appears as a note in Dark Vanilla's heart, Roasted Coffee's base and Chocolate Fudge's top. Any caramel oil is your own.

Can a vanilla-caramel candle stay white? Rarely if both oils darken. Reduce darkening sources, test lighter waxes, and design the look around your results.

What is the simplest route? Dark Vanilla alone at a suggested 8%, since its heart lists caramel and cream. Test it against blends.

Can I dye it to hide the colour? You can choose a warm tone on purpose, but re-test the wick, since dye affects the burn.
The short answer
Key fact: CSI stocks no caramel oil; Dark Vanilla lists caramel and cream in its heart.
Test: Dark Vanilla alone and two 70:30 blends with your caramel, in CSI 464 and CSI 468, with controls.
Cost: Route A ₹292.40 per 200 g White Matte jar, before packaging.

Straight answer
I Want to Make a Vanilla-Caramel Candle but Both Fragrances Darken My Wax — How Should I Design the Candle If Maintaining a White Colour Is Important?
Change the design, not the pour. First, CSI has no caramel fragrance oil, so your caramel is your own; ask its supplier about vanillin and colour. Then cut the number of darkening sources: test Dark Vanilla alone, whose heart lists caramel and cream, against 70:30 blends of Dark Vanilla or Vanilla Bean with your caramel, in CSI 464 and CSI 468, beside unscented controls. Photograph the jars over several weeks. If every route drifts, use an opaque jar such as White Matte, design a deliberate warm tone, keep stock boxed, or word the colour honestly. Ratios and loads are suggested starting points.
One line: for a white vanilla-caramel candle, reduce darkening oils to one if you can, test the wax, and design the look around the colour your tests show.
Dark Vanilla lists caramel and cream in its heart, so it can be tested as a one-oil vanilla-caramel before you add a second darkening oil.

A white vanilla-caramel candle is a design conflict

If both oils darken wax, no amount of careful pouring will keep the candle snow white. The design has to change, not the technique.

Vanilla and caramel are among the most loved gourmand notes, and both commonly rely on materials that warm wax colour over time. Put them together and you double the sources of drift. If a bright white candle is central to your brand, you have three honest choices: reduce the darkening load, hide or reframe the colour, or accept a warm tone and design it in on purpose.

Before any of that, one plain fact. CSI does not stock a caramel fragrance oil. On this page the caramel is your own oil from your own supplier. CSI's contribution is the vanilla side, the wax, the jar, the wick and, if you go that way, the dye. Where caramel appears in CSI's range, it is as a note inside other oils: in the heart of Dark Vanilla, in the base of Roasted Coffee, and on top of Chocolate Fudge.

What to find out about each oil first

You cannot design around colour risk you have not measured, and the first measurement is on paper.

Colour information
What is known before you pour
Oil Vanillin Colour statement Source
Dark Vanilla (CSI) Present, % not published Will yellow white or light wax CSI product page
Vanilla Bean (CSI) 2.5% Potential discolouration; test with lighter waxes CSI product page
Your caramel oil Ask your supplier Ask for any colour guidance Your supplier's documents

For your caramel oil, ask its supplier for the safety data sheet and IFRA certificate and whether it contains vanillin or similar darkening materials. For CSI's oils, IFRA and MSDS documents are available on WhatsApp request at +91 7397976926. If the caramel supplier cannot tell you, treat it as a darkening oil until your test proves otherwise.

Three fragrance routes to compare

The key idea is to reduce the number of darkening materials rather than hoping two of them behave. Dark Vanilla already lists caramel and cream in its heart, so it may carry the caramel impression by itself, with no second bottle.

Fragrance routes
Three ways to build the scent (suggested starting ratios)
Route Fragrance Darkening sources What it tests
A Dark Vanilla alone One oil Whether its caramel-and-cream heart is caramel enough
B Dark Vanilla 70 : your caramel 30 Two oils Whether a stronger caramel is worth the extra drift
C Vanilla Bean 70 : your caramel 30 Two oils, one with a published 2.5% vanillin Whether a vanilla with a known figure holds colour better

Route A is the simplest and the one to beat. If your smell panel calls it vanilla-caramel, you have removed an unknown oil and a second source of colour change in one move.

Judge the routes by smell before colour. Cure the jars for at least the 48–72 h that Dark Vanilla's page states for soy, then ask a small panel which jar reads most clearly as vanilla-caramel. If Route A is close to the blends on scent, the colour test becomes a tiebreaker that usually favours it, since it carries one darkening source instead of two.

Do not swap in a chocolate
Chocolate Fudge lists caramel among its top notes, but its middle is chocolate and nuts and its page says the wax will warm in tone. It moves the candle away from your brief, not towards it.

Keep the total load the same across all three routes so that only the fragrance structure changes. If Route B smells stronger simply because the caramel oil is more powerful, that is a strength difference, not proof that it is a better vanilla-caramel, and it may also bring more colour.

Worked example: an eight-jar colour and wax test

Colour depends on wax too, which is why Vanilla Bean's page advises testing with lighter waxes. Pour each route in two waxes, CSI 464 and CSI 468, and keep an unscented control of each. Use clear 200 ml salsa jars part-filled to 100 g so the colour is visible from the side and the oil spend stays small.

At a suggested 8%, each 100 g sample holds 8 g of fragrance and 92 g of wax. For routes B and C, 8 g at 70:30 is 5.6 g of vanilla and 2.4 g of caramel.

Test matrix
Three routes and a control in two waxes
Jar Wax Fragrance Oil weights
1 CSI 464 Route A 8 g Dark Vanilla
2 CSI 464 Route B 5.6 g Dark Vanilla + 2.4 g caramel
3 CSI 464 Route C 5.6 g Vanilla Bean + 2.4 g caramel
4 CSI 464 Control None
5 CSI 468 Route A 8 g Dark Vanilla
6 CSI 468 Route B 5.6 g Dark Vanilla + 2.4 g caramel
7 CSI 468 Route C 5.6 g Vanilla Bean + 2.4 g caramel
8 CSI 468 Control None

Store all eight together in the conditions your stock will live in, and photograph them side by side on white card at regular intervals, for example weekly for the first month as a suggested starting routine. Add each oil to the wax below its published flashpoint, below the lowest one in any blend, and never at the melter's maximum setting.

If white still loses: design options that work

Your photographs may show that every route drifts. That is useful, not a failure. It tells you to design the product around the colour rather than against it.

Look at the comparison between waxes as well as between routes. If the same fragrance holds a lighter shade in one wax than the other, that wax is part of your answer regardless of which route wins. Keep the control jars for the life of the product; they are your reference for what the unscented wax looks like after the same storage.

Design options
Ways to keep the look intentional
Option What the customer sees What to test
White Matte or other opaque 200 ml jar An opaque wall; only the top surface shows wax colour Top colour over time; wick in that jar
A deliberate warm ivory or caramel tone A colour that matches the scent, so gentle drift reads as intended Shade consistency and wick behaviour, since dye affects the burn
Boxed storage and short stock time A lighter candle on arrival How much colour moves in the box versus on a shelf
Honest wording “Natural colour may deepen with time” Customer response, not wax

If you choose a warm tone, CSI's Brown Candle Dye Liquid starts at 15 ml for ₹236.00 and Brown Dye Chips at ₹236.00 per pack. CSI publishes no dosage per kilogram, so add the smallest amount you can measure consistently, record it, and increase in small steps. Do not use mica inside a burning container candle; it is meant for melts, embeds and surfaces and can clog wicks.

Here is the cost of the two leading routes in a 200 g White Matte jar at 8%, with 184 g of CSI 464 at ₹93.36, the jar at ₹70.80 and Eco C1 at ₹5.90:

1
Route A. Dark Vanilla 16 g × ₹7.646 = ₹122.34. Total ₹93.36 + ₹122.34 + ₹70.80 + ₹5.90 = ₹292.40.
2
Route B. Dark Vanilla 11.2 g × ₹7.646 = ₹85.64, plus 4.8 g of caramel at your own price per gram. Total ₹255.70 plus your caramel cost.

Both exclude packaging, labels, labour, shipping and GST. If your caramel costs more than ₹36.70 for 4.8 g, Route B is the dearer candle as well as the one with two darkening sources.

Argue against interest
You may need fewer oils, not a better caramel.
If Dark Vanilla alone reads as vanilla-caramel, a second bottle only adds cost and a second source of drift. Prove the blend earns its place before you buy it.
Design for the colour your test shows, not the colour you hoped for.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA supplies raw materials and production equipment, not finished candles. This guide separates general candle-making practice from what CSI's own product pages state, says plainly where CSI publishes no figure (wick sizes, burn times, hardness), and labels every wick, load, test count or margin as a starting point for your own validation.

Prices are live CSI prices from October 2026; product pages are authoritative. Where a spec is not published — such as a wick size for your jar, a mould's cycle life or a wax's survival temperature — this guide says so rather than filling the gap.

Frequently asked questions

How do I stop a vanilla candle from turning yellow?
You can slow or hide it but rarely stop it with a vanillin-containing oil. Test lighter waxes, store stock boxed, consider an opaque jar, or design a warm tone on purpose and describe it honestly.
Does CSI sell caramel fragrance oil?
No. CSI's Dark Vanilla lists caramel in its heart, Roasted Coffee lists it in its base, and Chocolate Fudge lists it among its top notes. Any separate caramel oil must come from your own supplier.
Which wax is best for keeping vanilla candles light?
CSI publishes no colour comparison between waxes. Vanilla Bean's page advises testing with lighter waxes, so pour the same oil in CSI 464 and CSI 468 with controls and compare photographs over time.
Can I use white dye or mica to keep a candle white?
Masking drift with colourant does not stop it and changes the burn. Mica is meant for melts, embeds and surfaces, not inside burning container candles, where it can clog the wick and spoil the burn.
Is it acceptable to sell an off-white vanilla candle?
Yes, if the look is intentional and described honestly. Many gourmand candles are sold in warm cream tones; the problem is a candle sold as white that turns brown in the customer's home.
How do I blend vanilla and caramel fragrance oils?
Keep the total load fixed, for example 8% of the candle, and vary the ratio, such as 70:30. Pre-blend by weight, add below the lowest flashpoint in the blend, and re-test the wick at the final ratio.
