Candle Supplier Guides · Costing
The decision is arithmetic, not temperament. Here is the volume a price cut has to generate, the size of the pool you would be spending, and what CSI's own figures actually give back as you grow.
18.43%
extra units a 10% price cut must sell to stand still · ₹34.52 a candle of real saving · CSI live pricing, September 2026
Quick answers — read this first
Which is better — keep the saving or cut the price? Keep it until you can prove the volume. Passing the whole pool through as a price cut needs 9.02% more units just to match the gross profit you already had. A round 10% price cut needs 18.43% more units even after the saving is banked. Those are the numbers to argue with, not instinct.

How much is the saving actually worth per candle? On a 200 g candle in live CSI materials, ₹34.52 — and only ₹2.63 of that is pack size. The rest is ₹4.00 from consolidating one month's wax into a single consignment and ₹27.89 from the published order-value code the basket already clears.

Does CSI's price per kilogram fall as I buy more? Only on some grades, and by little. Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 is ₹650.00 a kilogram in the 500 g and 1 kg packs and ₹637.00 a kilogram in the 5 kg and 10 kg packs — one step of ₹13.00 a kilogram, worth ₹2.60 on a 200 g candle, and nothing more above 5 kg. CSI publishes no quantity ladder beyond what each product page prints.

What is the fastest way to test a price cut before making it? Divide. Take your contribution per candle, add the saving you have actually proved, and divide that by the same figure minus the cut. That ratio is the volume multiple you need. At ₹382.49 of contribution, a ₹64.90 cut needs 1.18 times the units — every month, not once.
The short answer
Bank it first: passing the entire ₹34.52 pool through as a price cut needs 9.02% more units a month simply to end up where you started.
The pool is smaller than the premise: pack size on this specification gives ₹2.63 a candle. Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 steps once, at 5 kg, and Orchard Pear moves by three paise between its two largest packs.
The computable saving is freight and the order-value code: ₹4.00 a candle from sending one month's wax as one consignment instead of four, and ₹27.89 a candle from the published 10% code on an order over ₹20,000.

What it shows: for five sizes of price cut on an illustrative ₹649.00 candle, the extra units you must sell to end the month with the same gross profit — first with no saving banked, then with the entire ₹34.52 pool banked first. The bars shorten, but not by much: banking the pool buys roughly two percentage points of relief on a 10% cut. Deliberately left out: the extra wax, oil, vessels, wicks, packing and hours those extra units consume, the chance that the cut moves no units at all, and any claim about how your own customers respond to price. The ₹649.00 is illustrative and yours will differ.
Straight answer
Should the saving from buying bigger go into margin, or into a lower selling price?
Into margin, until the volume is proved — and the arithmetic says so before any opinion does. A price cut does not cost you the cut; it costs you the cut on every unit you were already selling, and it has to be repaid by units you were not. If your contribution is ₹382.49 a candle and you cut ₹64.90 off the price, you need 18.43% more units every month, for as long as the price stays down, just to finish where you started. Banking the whole saving first barely moves that: without it the same cut needs 20.44%. The second half of the answer is less comfortable. The saving you are about to spend is smaller than the phrase "better bulk prices" suggests, because CSI publishes no per-kilogram quantity ladder to grow into. Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 is ₹650.00 a kilogram at 500 g and 1 kg and ₹637.00 a kilogram at 5 kg and 10 kg — one step, worth ₹2.60 on a 200 g candle. Orchard Pear moves three paise a candle between its 500 gm and 1000 gm packs. Pack size on this specification is worth ₹2.63 in total. What does scale with your order size is the part nobody celebrates: freight and the published order-value codes. One month of wax for 200 candles sent as a single consignment instead of four separate parcels saves ₹800.00, which is ₹4.00 a candle, and a monthly basket of ₹55,772.00 clears the published 10% threshold and returns ₹27.89 a candle. Add them and growing is worth ₹34.52 a candle at this scale — real money, and still only about half of a 10% price cut. Keep it, spend a defined slice of it on the product or the photography, and cut price only when you have a reason to believe a specific number of extra units will follow.
One line: ₹34.52 a candle is what growing actually gives back; a 10% price cut costs ₹64.90 and needs 18.43% more units.
₹34.52 a candle is the whole pool at 200 candles a month. Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 5 kg ₹3,185.00 (₹637.00/kg) · Orchard Pear 1000 gm ₹3,738.00 (₹3.74/g) · White Matte Glass Jar Pack of 10 ₹708.00 (₹70.80 each) · Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) ₹5.90 each. Pack size contributes ₹2.63 of that; freight and the published order-value code contribute the rest.

What a price cut actually has to sell back

A discount is not a marketing cost. It is a cost of goods sold, charged on every unit you were already selling.

Start with the decision itself, because it can be settled without knowing anything about CSI. You have a candle. It sells at some price, it costs you something to make, and the difference is your contribution per candle — the money that unit hands the business before rent, salaries or advertising. Call it C. You have found a saving of S a candle. You are choosing between adding S to C, and giving some or all of it away as a price cut of P.

If you keep it, next month's gross profit is your usual units multiplied by C plus S. If you cut the price, each unit now carries C plus S minus P, so the units have to rise until the two products match. The whole decision is one ratio: new units ÷ old units = (C + S) ÷ (C + S − P). There is nothing else in it. No brand argument, no competitor argument, no positioning argument changes the size of that ratio; they only change how likely you think it is that the units arrive.

Put a real candle under it. This page uses a 200 g candle built from live CSI stock in September 2026 — Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 at the 1 kg rate, Orchard Pear at 8% of wax weight, a White Matte Glass Jar priced per piece and an Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) — which comes to ₹266.51 in materials. The fill reading carried throughout this page is 200 g of wax plus 16 g of oil, 216 g poured; a fragrance load is a percentage of wax weight, so the oil sits on top of the 200 g rather than inside it. At an illustrative selling price of ₹649.00 — yours will differ, and this page never tells you what to charge — contribution is ₹382.49.

Priced above: an illustrative selling price of ₹649.00 and the CSI materials cost of ₹266.51 a candle — Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 1 kg ₹650.00 (₹650.00/kg), Orchard Pear 1000 gm ₹3,738.00 (₹3.74/g), White Matte Glass Jar Pack of 10 ₹708.00 (₹70.80 each) and Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) ₹5.90 each, live CSI pricing September 2026, taxes included. Contribution is ₹382.49. The ₹649.00 is illustrative, declared as such, and is not a CSI price or a recommendation.

Read the third column before the fourth. A cut of 5% — ₹32.45, which most customers will not notice — still needs 9.27% more units. A cut of 20%, the kind that gets announced, needs 51.37% more units, which is not a promotion, it is a different business. And the fourth column, the one where you have banked every rupee of the saving first, is barely kinder: the 10% cut moves from 20.44% to 18.43%. That is the single most useful sentence on this page. The saving is not what decides the question. The ratio between your contribution and your cut decides it, and your contribution is large relative to anything bulk buying can move.

The CSI principle
A discount is paid by the units you already had.
At ₹382.49 of contribution, giving away ₹64.90 costs you 18.43% of your volume before you have sold one extra candle.
Measuring the cut against the price instead of against the contribution. A 10% price cut sounds like a tenth of something. It is 16.97% of your contribution on the figures above, because contribution is smaller than price. The mistake compounds where margins are thin: the lower your contribution, the more units a fixed rupee cut demands, which is exactly backwards from the instinct that low-margin businesses should compete on price. Work in contribution, always, and the ratio tells the truth first time.
Treating a permanent price cut as a campaign. The break-even in the table is per month, every month, for as long as the price stays down. A festival weekend at a lower price is a defined cost you can size in advance — the cut multiplied by the units you expect to sell that weekend. A new price list is an open-ended one. If you want the volume test without the open-ended cost, run the lower price for a defined window around Diwali on 8 November 2026 or a wedding season push, measure the units, and decide afterwards with real numbers instead of a forecast.

Sizing the pool before you spend it

Every rate on this page was run from the live ladder rather than assumed. Two of them move. Two do not.

"Better bulk prices as I grow" is a reasonable expectation and it is worth checking against what a supplier actually publishes, because on this store the picture is narrower than the phrase. Run the four lines of the candle one at a time. Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 publishes four pack sizes and two rates: ₹650.00 a kilogram at 500 g and at 1 kg, ₹637.00 a kilogram at 5 kg and at 10 kg. That is one step of ₹13.00 a kilogram, it lands at 5 kg, and going from 5 kg to 10 kg changes nothing at all.

Orchard Pear publishes five sizes and the rate falls across them, steeply at the small end and then almost not at all: the 15 gm pack is ₹7.00 a gram, the 100 gm pack ₹3.80, and the 500 gm and 1000 gm packs are both ₹3.74 a gram to the paisa. If you are already buying the 500 gm pack, the next size up is worth ₹0.03 on a candle. The White Matte Glass Jar is the same ₹70.80 a piece in the Pack of 5 and the Pack of 10, and Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) is ₹5.90 a wick in all six pack sizes it sells. Two of your four lines have no pack ladder at all.

Live CSI pricing, September 2026, taxes included. The candle column uses 200 g of wax and 16 g of oil at 8% of wax weight throughout. The whole pack-size pool on this specification is ₹2.63 a candle.

Two honest notes belong beside that table. The first is that the rates above are what these particular products publish and nothing more; other grades and other oils behave differently, and the only safe move is to read the ladder on the products you actually buy rather than carry an assumption between them. The second concerns the load. The Orchard Pear page publishes no candle usage range, so the only published limit on this pairing is the wax grade's own stated maximum of 13% of total wax weight for Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 — 8% sits well inside it. Where an oil page does print a range, the lower of the two figures governs.

READ THE LADDER, NOT THE PACK SIZE
Before you upsize anything, divide the pack price by the pack weight and write the rate in the margin of your order sheet. It takes ten seconds a product and it is the only defence against paying more for a bigger box. On this store the exercise pays twice: it finds the Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 step at 5 kg that is worth having, and it stops you committing to a 1000 gm oil pack for a three-paise gain when a 500 gm pack of a scent you are still testing is the cheaper mistake.

Where growing genuinely does lower your cost

The line that actually rewards scale is the one most cost sheets never carry: the parcel.

Delivery to you is a real cost of your candle and it behaves nothing like the rate ladders. It is charged in published flat bands by weight, so it falls per kilogram in steps as a consignment gets heavier — and that is the saving your growth is actually buying. Take one month at 200 candles: 40 kg of wax, which is four 10 kg packs of Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468. Each pack carries a stored packed weight of 11.0 kg. Four of those sent separately are four consignments at ₹1,200.00 each on Standard Shipping — ₹4,800.00. Sent as one 44 kg consignment the cheapest covering band is ₹4,000.00 on Expedited Shipping. The saving is ₹800.00, which across 200 candles is ₹4.00 a candle: more than the entire wax pack step, from a decision that costs nothing but patience.

One consignment 1 44.0 kg Expedited, under 50 kg ₹4,000.00 ₹800.00
Priced above: the published flat weight bands as at September 2026 — ₹1,200.00 for Standard Shipping under 15 kg, ₹2,000.00 for Expedited Shipping under 25 kg, ₹3,500.00 for Expedited Shipping under 35 kg and ₹4,000.00 for Expedited Shipping under 50 kg — applied to the stored packed weight of 11.0 kg per 10 kg wax pack. Rates are merchant-set and can change; the store publishes no band above 50 kg, so a fifth pack in the same consignment has no rate to quote and has to travel separately.

Look at the third row, because it is the one that stops this becoming a slogan. Consolidating three packs rather than two is worth almost nothing: the 33 kg band costs ₹3,500.00 against ₹2,000.00 for 22 kg, so the third pack effectively travels for ₹1,500.00 while the second travelled for ₹800.00. Band edges cut both ways, and more weight in one box is not automatically cheaper. Weigh the actual packs, look up the bands, and only then decide how to split an order. The one hard ceiling is that nothing above 50 kg has a published rate at all.

The second thing that scales with order size is the published order-value codes, and they are a different animal from a quantity break. They depend on what the whole basket comes to, not on how big a pack you choose: HAPPY5 gives 5% over ₹5,000, BIZWIZ8 8% over ₹12,000 and YAY10 10% over ₹20,000. A month at 200 candles buys four 10 kg wax packs at ₹6,370.00, four 1000 gm packs of Orchard Pear at ₹3,738.00, twenty White Matte Glass Jar Pack of 10 at ₹708.00 and 200 Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) at ₹5.90 — ₹55,772.00. That clears the top threshold, and 10% of it is ₹5,577.20, or ₹27.89 a candle. It is by a distance the largest single item in the pool, and it is available the moment a basket crosses ₹20,000 rather than at some distant volume.

Priced above: four Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 10 kg at ₹6,370.00 = ₹25,480.00 · four Orchard Pear 1000 gm at ₹3,738.00 = ₹14,952.00 · twenty White Matte Glass Jar Pack of 10 at ₹708.00 = ₹14,160.00 · 200 Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) at ₹5.90 = ₹1,180.00 · basket ₹55,772.00. Published order-value codes as at September 2026: HAPPY5 5% over ₹5,000, BIZWIZ8 8% over ₹12,000, YAY10 10% over ₹20,000. These are order-value discounts, not quantity breaks, and whether a code applies to a particular basket is a checkout question — confirm it on WhatsApp before you build a price around it.

What it shows: the whole per-candle saving available at 200 candles a month, split into the four things that produce it, drawn against the dashed outline of a 10% price cut on the same candle. The pack-size segments are so small they are drawn at a minimum width to stay visible. Deliberately left out: the reader's own packaging, courier to their customer and labour, none of which is a CSI cost; and any claim that all four savings can be captured in the same order, which depends on how a basket is actually built.
Growth does not lower the rate. It lowers the number of parcels.

Three things you can do with ₹34.52, and what each buys

Margin, price, or product. Only one of them is reversible on Monday morning.

Assume you have the pool. ₹34.52 a candle at 200 candles a month is ₹6,903.60 a month of found money, and there are exactly three honest destinations for it.

Keep it as margin

Contribution goes from ₹382.49 to ₹417.01, a rise of 9.02%, and monthly gross profit at unchanged volume goes from ₹76,498.40 to ₹83,402.00. Nothing about the product or the customer changes. This is the default and it should be, because it is the only one of the three you can reverse instantly if the saving turns out to be smaller than you thought — and savings built on a supplier's rates rather than your own measurements very often are.

Spend it on price

A cut of the full ₹34.52 takes the illustrative ₹649.00 candle to ₹614.48. That is a 5.32% reduction, which in most Indian D2C candle listings is invisible next to a shipping charge or a festival bundle, and it needs 9.02% more units to pay for itself. Price cuts work when they cross a threshold a customer actually notices — a round number, a competitor's shelf price, a free-shipping cart minimum on the marketplace you sell through. If your cut does not cross one of those, it is a gift rather than a lever.

Spend it on the product

This is the option most costing pages skip and it is often the best of the three, because it changes what you are selling rather than what you charge for it. ₹34.52 a candle buys a great deal at CSI rates: it is roughly half the vessel on this specification, or it is a move from 8% to 10% of wax weight in fragrance — 20 g instead of 16 g of Orchard Pear, which costs ₹14.95 more a candle and leaves change. Test it as a formulation change and burn-test it properly before you commit; a stronger candle at the same price is a defensible reason to hold price when a competitor cuts theirs.

Priced above: the illustrative ₹649.00 selling price and the CSI materials cost of ₹266.51 a candle, with the pool of ₹34.52 as computed on this page. The fragrance row prices four extra grams of Orchard Pear at ₹3.74 a gram, which is ₹14.95. Unit counts are rounded up to whole candles. Every selling price and gross-profit figure in this table is illustrative; your price is yours, and this page does not recommend one.
Passing on a saving you have not banked yet. The ₹27.89 a candle from the order-value code exists only on a basket that actually clears ₹20,000, and the ₹4.00 exists only on a consignment you actually consolidated. Cutting your price in March on a saving you plan to organise in June means three months of paying for it out of the contribution you had. Bank a saving for one full purchase cycle, confirm it on the invoice, and only then decide what to do with it.

1. Write down C, your contribution per candleSelling price minus everything that scales with a unit: materials, packaging, the courier to your customer, the gateway or marketplace fee. Not rent and not your salary — those do not change with one more candle. On this page's illustrative example, C is ₹382.49 on a ₹649.00 price and ₹266.51 of CSI materials. Your own C will be lower than you expect the first time you do it honestly.

2. Prove S, the saving, on one real invoiceNot the rate you were quoted, not the rate on a competitor's page: the rate on your last order. Run each line separately — wax, oil, vessel, wick — and add the freight difference between how you ordered and how you could have ordered. On this specification S is ₹34.52, of which only ₹2.63 is pack size.

3. Divide, and read the ratio out loudNew units ÷ old units = (C + S) ÷ (C + S − P). For a ₹64.90 cut with the whole pool banked that is ₹417.01 ÷ ₹352.11, which is 1.18 — 18.43% more units, every month. Say the percentage out loud before you decide. It is much larger than the cut and that is the point.

4. Decide what evidence would satisfy youIf you cannot name the mechanism that brings the extra units — a marketplace price filter you currently fall outside, a bundle threshold, a repeat-order cadence — you do not have a volume plan, you have a hope. Keep the saving, put a defined slice of it into the product or into photography, and revisit the price when you have a mechanism.

What this page will not decide for you

The arithmetic is ours. The price is yours, and so are the costs CSI does not sell.

Two kinds of figure are missing from everything above, and both are missing on purpose. The first is your own non-material costs. CSI sells wax, fragrance, vessels and wicks, so those four lines can be priced from a live store; a label, a mailer, the courier that takes the finished candle to your customer, a gateway fee, your electricity and your hours cannot, and no number invented here would be yours. Fill them in yourself and total the sheet as materials from CSI plus your own costs — then recompute contribution, because every one of those lines makes C smaller and every break-even percentage in the table larger.

The rest of the sheet · your figures
Lines this page leaves blank, and why
Line Why it is blank Your figure
Label, printing, stickers Not a CSI product —
Outer box, mailer, void fill Not a CSI product —
Courier to your own customer CSI publishes rates for delivering to you, not for your outbound parcels —
Payment gateway or marketplace fee Varies by platform and by plan —
Advertising and discount codes you run Yours, and they belong beside the price decision —
Electricity, melting time, labour Not a CSI product —
Wastage and reject allowance An assumption until you have measured a full batch, not data —
Materials from CSI The four lines this page prices ₹266.51
Priced above: only the ₹266.51 materials line — Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 at ₹650.00/kg, Orchard Pear at ₹3.74/g, White Matte Glass Jar at ₹70.80 a piece and Eco Candle Wicks Thin (C1) at ₹5.90. Every other row is deliberately empty. Do not write a typical figure into a blank; a guessed cost that travels into a price is worse than an admitted gap.

The second missing figure is the price itself. This page will not tell you what to charge, and it will not tell you whether your customers are price-sensitive, because neither is knowable from a spreadsheet. What it will do is hand you the number the decision turns on. At ₹382.49 of contribution, a 10% cut needs 18.43% more units; at half that contribution the same cut would need far more. Work out your own C, run the ratio, and the argument in your own head becomes a much shorter one.

One last honest note on the premise. Two reviews on the store say plainly that delivery charges are high, and one says a large order felt costly at checkout when the weight was calculated. That criticism is fair, and it is the same arithmetic as this page from the other side: freight is the line that moves most with order size, in both directions. The answer is to plan the consignment before you build the basket — which pack sizes, how many kilograms, how many parcels — rather than to discover it at the end. Ask on WhatsApp if you want the weights checked before you order.

Why trust this guide

CANDLEMAKINGSUPPLIESINDIA sells the wax, fragrance, vessels and wicks this page prices, and the page still says that the saving available from buying bigger is ₹2.63 a candle on this specification — not a figure worth reorganising a business around. It also says that the largest single item in the pool, the published order-value code, is reached at a basket of ₹20,000 rather than at any particular volume, so a maker at 60 candles a month can have it as readily as one at 600. Where a product's rate does not fall with pack size, this page says so rather than implying a ladder that is not published.

Every CSI price here is live stock in September 2026, taxes included, and the linked product pages are authoritative if anything changes. Fragrance load is a percentage of wax weight, so the candle costed throughout is 200 g of wax plus 16 g of oil at 8%, 216 g poured. Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 states a maximum load of 13% of total wax weight; the Orchard Pear page publishes no candle usage range, so the wax grade's maximum is the only published limit on that pairing. The White Matte Glass Jar page gives a fill capacity in millilitres, which is not a weight, so this page prices the vessel per piece and makes no claim that a 200 g candle fits it. The ₹649.00 selling price and every margin and gross-profit figure built on it are illustrative and are declared as such. Shipping figures are the published flat weight bands as at September 2026 applied to stored packed weights; rates are merchant-set and can change, no band is published above 50 kg, and no delivery time, courier or per-city estimate is stated here. Published order-value codes are quoted as published. Labels, boxes, outbound courier, gateway fees, advertising, labour and electricity are not CSI products and are left blank throughout.

Frequently asked questions

Is it ever right to cut the price instead of keeping the saving?
Yes, when the cut crosses a threshold that changes behaviour rather than just lowering a number — a marketplace price filter you currently sit above, a bundle or cart minimum, a competitor's shelf price your product is measured against. The test is unchanged: at ₹382.49 of contribution a ₹64.90 cut needs 18.43% more units every month. If you can name the mechanism that delivers 18.43%, cut. If you cannot, keep it.
How much lower is CSI's per-kilogram rate in a big pack?
It depends entirely on the grade, which is why this page ran each one. Premium Coconut Soy Wax CSI 468 is ₹650.00 a kilogram in the 500 g and 1 kg packs and ₹637.00 a kilogram in the 5 kg and 10 kg packs — a single step of ₹13.00 a kilogram, or ₹2.60 on a 200 g candle. Other grades behave differently and several do not move at all. Divide pack price by pack weight on the product page before you upsize, and ask on WhatsApp for anything larger than the published packs.
Do the order-value codes stack with anything else?
They are order-value discounts, triggered by what the basket comes to — HAPPY5 at 5% over ₹5,000, BIZWIZ8 at 8% over ₹12,000 and YAY10 at 10% over ₹20,000, as published in September 2026. How a code behaves alongside anything else in a particular basket is a checkout question rather than a costing one, so confirm it on WhatsApp before you build a selling price around it. Reaching a threshold by adding a scent you do not need is not a saving either way.
Should I compare my cut against price or against margin?
Against contribution, every time. A 10% cut on the illustrative ₹649.00 candle is ₹64.90, which is 10% of the price but 16.97% of the ₹382.49 contribution. Contribution is the number the cut is actually taken out of, and it is the number that sets how many extra units you need. Businesses that think in price percentages consistently underestimate what a discount costs them.
What is the cheapest saving I can capture this month?
Consolidation, because it needs no extra spend at all. Four 10 kg wax packs carry a stored packed weight of 11.0 kg each; sent separately they bill at ₹1,200.00 apiece under the published Standard band, and sent as one 44 kg consignment the cheapest covering band is ₹4,000.00 on Expedited. That is ₹800.00, or ₹4.00 a candle across 200 candles, for ordering once instead of four times. Check the weights first: there is no published band above 50 kg.
Does a bigger fragrance pack lower my cost per candle?
On this oil, barely. Orchard Pear runs at ₹3.80 a gram in the 100 gm pack and ₹3.74 a gram in both the 500 gm and 1000 gm packs, so moving from 500 gm to 1000 gm is worth ₹0.03 on a 200 g candle at 8%. What the bigger pack does change is commitment: ₹3,738.00 in one scent against ₹1,870.00, which matters far more than three paise if the scent is still being tested. Read the ladder on the oil you actually buy — they are not all shaped alike.
